Café Loetje in Museumkwartier

Our first visit to Loetje, but definitely not our last! Our dinner was a complete success. The culinary highlight was undoubtedly the steak! 🥩🔥 195g, perfectly cooked, incredibly tender, and bursting with flavor – exactly how a good steak should be. It was paired with a fantastic sauce – simply delicious and perfectly balanced. The accompanying side dishes, such as grilled vegetables, onions, and crispy fries, rounded out the meal perfectly. 😋 The service was also very friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was just right. We'll definitely be back!

It's nice that you know what you're getting at Loetje, otherwise you wouldn't go here! Delicious food. Fortunately, the renovation of the Serre in Amsterdam is temporary, because the acoustics in the back are terrible :( Also, in my opinion, the waitresses come by a bit too often asking if we want another drink. That feels pushy..

Even if 70% of the tables where empty we could not move to the table next to us to avoid the sun because the computer was programmed for us sitting at assigned table. The computer rules over customer comfort - Terrible service

Had a delicious meal and a lovely time

Come to Amsterdam, try the Dutch food. We visited at 5pm, it was naturally pretty quiet. Waitress was helpful, cleaned the table and took our order promptly. Menus were grubby and there were food scraps on the floor. The hamburgers were fine - the Bittenballen were not served. This happens and when we pointed it out they were removed from the bill. All up 2 burgers, a beer and a wine - it was very over priced. Ticked that box, won’t be back

Small-scale, meaning there is more attention for the customer; a real old-fashioned cafe vibe. The staff was quick and came by often. I do recommend making a reservation, as it was almost full.

An exceptional experience in Amsterdam. A restaurant with local food at a fair price and a very cozy and friendly atmosphere, just like all of Amsterdam.

Food was great. I recommend the classic with chicken livers as the best steak I've ever had. The service was excellent and friendly. Only slight problem was that it was very noisy. But i suppose that's the sound of success! I will be back. As often as i can as the menu looks interesting and worth exploring. Loved the chandelier!

This is still how it used to be; unfortunately, that is less the case at other Loetjes. Steak Bali with sambal and Sticky Toffee with caramel sauce, unlike at other branches where it was just rushed through.

The sirloin steak with garlic sauce, the sweet potato with aioli, and the Malbec wine were fantastic. A very welcoming restaurant where you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. The service is excellent. I'll be back.

Steak chips and salad. That's all you need to know.

Loetje has a reputation to uphold: an excellent steak. My partner ordered a 150-gram plain steak. That was good. I ordered a 195-gram ‘De roode waard’, served with onion, bacon, and chicken livers. Medium rare. I received 2 medallions, perhaps they totaled 125 grams, almost well-done, overloaded with onion, overly salty bacon, but with tasty chicken livers. I could have done better myself.

Great Dutch dinner place, reservations required and hard to get if not made in advance. So good we went back 10 days later (first and last days of vacation and only days in Amsterdam). And 9 months later, we were back again. Great service from Marc.

The food was quite average. A burger, unworthy of mention, came after a 40 minute wait and to the restaurant's credit they didn't charge us for it. Most of the employees were very helpful but one was ostentatiously muscular..... The environment and the place were very beautiful

Actually, just excellent again. Two points of minor criticism. The first salad didn't look fresh. After complaining, we immediately received a second one, and that one was better. The steak was more medium rare than medium. We weren't asked for this, by the way. Otherwise, everything is OK, and we would gladly come back again.

The steak was excellent as usual and the location is top-notch, but it would really be nice if Loetje had properly functioning heating, both in the restaurant and in the conservatory. The drafty and leaking conservatory was supposed to be renovated, but that still hasn't happened. It's a shame, because these days you pay a hefty price for a simple steak, a plate of fries, and a salad in the cold! Because of that, it is no longer recommended for me in the winter, even though I have been a customer since Loet opened!!

The beetroot hamburger was delicious too! And the steak was enjoyed as always.

This was recommended to us and we are so happy we tried it. Really good food and service and a lovely atmosphere. Traditional Dutch items and delicious beef tenderloin.

The steak was very juicy and could be used to dip fries. The appetizer bread was toast, which was a bit unusual, and it wasn't toasted, which was a disappointment.

The website states that they open at 10:00. We had therefore dutifully reserved for 10:00 via the website. When we realized we weren't going to make that time, I was able to change the reservation online to 10:30. We arrived at that time, but found ourselves standing in front of a closed door and a chained-up terrace. The door to the terrace was open, so we went inside. There was no one to be seen there. At one point, a man walked up. “Hello, we are still closed.” I said that we had reserved for 10:30. “That may be, but we open at 11:00.” But why can I reserve from 10:00 then? “Oh, then that still needs to be adjusted on the website.” That last part was, of course, nonsense; what large organization like RCE wouldn't do that? So, in my opinion, it was an excuse to cover up the fact that the man was late opening. We spent our money just fine elsewhere.

What a pity. Good food but such a bad service (truly a nightmare)

I think the tables are much too close together, causing me to be roughly bumped into by the wait staff the whole time.

We always visit this Loetje branch on every trip to Amsterdam and always order the steak. We've never been disappointed – the food is always delicious. It's our absolute favorite restaurant, and we'll definitely be back!

Excellent service my wife had the beetroot sandwich an I had the steak and sweet potato fries and we had cheese cake for dessert. Very thing was great.

We had a lovely dinner from start to finish.The bitterballen was as good as suggested, The steak was delicious and the apple pie was perfect. we would definitely eat here again.

I regularly visit Loetje at various locations in and around Amsterdam. Yesterday I went to Johannes Vermeer (the original Loetje), and it was an incredible disappointment. The service was poor, slow, and often incorrect. We were a group of four, three of whom had to get out of bed last night to go to the toilet.

Calf liver could have been cooked for a slightly shorter time. It was on the dry side. Still edible with fried onions and bacon. It's a shame you have to pay extra for fries. Actually strange.

Very very high quality of "comfort" food in a nice setting. Everything was excellent.

Their specialty is sirloin steak with an original sauce. The meat is very tender and the sauce is very flavorful, and it can be ordered with different side dishes. The restaurant is very welcoming, with several well-appointed areas: a terrace with heaters, a covered terrace, and an interior area near the bar. We were able to make a reservation on the same day in the summer, and there's a great atmosphere for dinner. The service is very friendly. A traditional option that I would definitely return to; the quality/price ratio is good.

The food was tasty, but unfortunately the service was a bit lacking (we went almost 45 minutes without anyone coming to us after we had finished eating) and one of the waitresses reacted a bit strangely when we asked for another glass. We were also not allowed to change tables when it started raining, even though there were plenty of tables available – which is a shame, because the restaurant has a lot of potential!

I don't know how you managed to get servers with so little charisma and zero hustle. 10 minutes sat at the bar before any service, handed dirty sticky menus on a dirty sticky bar. Staff more interested in putting glassware away than serving guests. Two people will happily chat away directly in front of you whilst you have your hand up practically waving at them. Has the back bar ever been cleaned or dusted? One of the first impressions of the venue and it's filthy. Order a salad hoping it'd be quick, 40 minutes for a salad. Menu makes almost no effort to describe the food, doesn't bother telling you most of the ingredients nor does it mention it's hot vegetables dumped onto a cold salad. Whoever invented this dish needs to have a welfare check because they are not doing okay. Please don't insult Bali by associating it with this awful, awful, awful dish. Maybe chef is thinking about a holiday as he's cooking, cos it's certainly not about the food. Seriously lacking management, bar staff flicking each other with towels middle of dinner service, appetizers taking 40 minutes with zero follow up or communication from the restaurant, booked table of 6 but was given a table of 4 because they could not cater to someone with disabilities.

We had a very pleasant time and ate delicious steak.

Always a pleasant atmosphere and good, professional, and friendly service. It's nice to eat there after walking through the city, or before heading to the Concertgebouw, for example.

Great local and (relatively) historical restaurant

The steak was absolutely delicious! The staff member who looked after me was also so kind and welcoming, greeting me with a warm smile. I really enjoyed both the food and the wonderful service.

A very special experience to celebrate my birthday! ❤️ My son, who lives in Amsterdam, took me to Café Loetje and it was an excellent choice. The restaurant is very pleasant and has a very well-located terrace, perfect for enjoying a meal in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. We ordered the special Klassiek dish, a classic tournedos, very well served. Each of us chose a different sauce — Bali, Roode Waard and Knoflook — and all were delicious, giving a special touch to the meats, which arrived perfectly cooked, very tender and flavorful. As an appetizer, we tried the Bittergarnituur, meat and cheese dumplings, and the Zoete Aardappelfriet, sweet potato fritters, both very tasty and great for sharing. To finish, we ordered the Sticky Toffee, a light and delicious dessert cake, accompanied by whipped cream, which was the perfect ending to the meal. 🍰 It was a very pleasant birthday celebration, with good food, a nice atmosphere, and an experience that will remain in my memory. I highly recommend Café Loetje! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

When we got to the restaurant they could not find our reservation booking and said the new booking system was to blame. We were almost not given a table.

Very nice location in a cozy square. We had a cooked to perfection tenderloin with super savory garlic based sauce and crispy fried sweet potatoes as side dish. As for dessert order the toffee cake and you will close the lunch wonderfully.

We stopped for lunch with our dog. Excellent and fast service, good food, and a very nice place!

We (from Gouda) always go with friends (from Alkmaar) to a number of summer concerts at the Concertgebouw. ​​Beforehand, we have dinner at Loetje Café. Always tasty and enjoyable. Do keep serving Corenwijn!

At first, they seemed to have forgotten about us. I had to ask myself if we could order something to drink, then I had to ask for the menu, and even after that I had to ask if we could order! A group of 6 who arrived later had already left by the time our food was served! We weren't in a hurry, but we don't want to be ignored. The food, on the other hand, was exquisite and the wine was delicious.

We stopped by for lunch. Got a table in the sunshine. All our food was amazing.

Highly recommend such good food and service

This Loetje location reminds me again—after visits to other Loetjes—of how it 'should be'... in the service, the quality of the steak, the atmosphere. For the first time in a while, I had a very tasty meal, even though the prices are ridiculous...

It was lovely outside, and thank God no music. Otherwise, you can't understand each other.

This was the third time I have been to Cafe Loetje. The previous two times with Dutch friends. Last night was just my wife and I. While my wife is Spanish, she speaks with an American accent. When we paid, the waitress asked us for a tip. I know that this is not usual in The Netherlands (I have now been living here for 6 months and this was the first time ever.). I questioned this, and she said it was normal. I did not leave a tip. It is clear that she assumed we were American tourists and would not know better. The saddest part is when I questioned it, which was my way of trying to be nice and give her an out, she doubled down.

Food was average at best. Service was terrible. Waiter ignored request to split check and refused to split it when we requested a second time. When we paid the check all but told us we had to leave him at least a 10% tip.

A good piece of ‘vleesch’ with a spicy sauce, served quickly in a pleasant atmosphere… what more could you want? Not too often, but definitely when you’re craving meat 👍

I became very nauseous a few hours after eating; everything came back up.

The service is friendly, and the steak is delicious. The croquettes are so-so. I also recommend the signature lemonade.

What a lovely restaurant. We had a delicious lunch here. The staff was friendly and up for a chat. The steak was delicious and we sat in a lovely spot outside. There was plenty of room to sit both inside and outside.

The atmosphere was beautiful but the service was awful, they took almost an hour to simply get our order, an hour to make the food and only told us that the bitterballen are out of stock by the end of the serving. Mean servers, even though we spoke in dutch to them. Overall the food was very good but in the receipt they added fries which we never got.

If you are used to Loetje in Rotterdam, then stay away from here. This is supposedly the first Loetje “where it all began”. We had reserved a table, and upon arrival, we had to wait. They had to check for a table? That’s not what you reserve for, is it? The table is too small to even cut your steak properly when you are sitting at the table with 3 or 4 people. Then there is the staff. Not a smile to be seen. If you expected hospitality, just walk on by. There is nothing to be found here. If you want to order something to drink or eat, you have to call the staff. They won't come to you voluntarily. We even had to wait for the food. The kitchen couldn't handle it. The starter was on the table after 5 minutes. You have to ask for your main course. I don't know if waiting an hour is normal, or if other tables take priority (they arrived much later). But I asked for the main course anyway. Gravy too salty. And I had a different idea of ​​medium/rare. Apparently, that means a core temperature of 66 degrees there. If you want to pay and walk to the cashier (they won't come anyway if you call them), they don't even know where you sat. Not even when pointing out the table. That shows they aren't paying attention to their guests. But maybe I'm completely wrong and the standard at Loetje—how you can make it big here—is indeed rich. Because the price for a piece of meat with gravy on a white plate and overcooked fries is, in my view, out of proportion. You won't see me here again.

Very good stake, nice location, perfect service

We were a bit early, so we were able to get in without a reservation. We had tried to make a reservation, but the confirmation code just wouldn't arrive (not even in the spam folder). Fast service and delicious food. With just a main course and a drink, I found €40 to be a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the meat more than made up for it.

We liked the atmosphere and the food. When we went to pay, the waitress asked us for a tip because it wasn't included in the bill. It was our first dinner in Amsterdam and we didn't know how it worked, although I had read that they didn't give any. In none of the other places we went the following days, in Amsterdam and Maastricht, did anyone ask us for a tip. It was a very ugly detail.

What a disappointment, it was so busy and packed. You were practically sitting on your neighbor's lap, hard uncomfortable chairs, and poor acoustics. The food itself is meager and expensive; the risotto was so incredibly bad, and the steak itself was decent but again, very little for what you paid. The staff was friendly, though. Not worth a repeat visit; there really are much better restaurants in the area.

Best meal in Amsterdam by a kilometer. Great service and amazing food. Get the Clasic with onions, bacon, chicken liver and gravy. Each ingredient is perfectly cooked. Only get medium rare or rare. ( my camera isn't the best, that was a perfect medium rare)
