Yesterday we dined and drank here with a group of 10 people, including a baby, and we have nothing but praise for it. From the very first moment, we felt incredibly welcome. The Café Maxwell team was friendly, attentive, and thoughtful—even for the littlest ones. The food was truly delicious: fresh, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented. Everyone at the table was enthusiastic, with something for everyone! The drinks also arrived promptly and always served with a smile. The atmosphere at Café Maxwell is just right: lively yet relaxed, with a warm and welcoming feel. Even with our large group, we were able to chat comfortably without it feeling crowded. In short: Café Maxwell is an absolute must for anyone who enjoys good food, hospitable service, and a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. We had a wonderful time—and will definitely be back soon!

Since Maxwell's reopening, I've been there a few times now, once for lunch and twice for dinner. Each time, it was simply excellent. I used to enjoy sitting on the terrace occasionally, just a nice local café around the corner, but since the reopening, the quality has clearly improved. The food is excellent value for money, the decor is charming and inviting (especially that large painting on the wall where you always discover something new). While some 3WO restaurants can lack a bit of soul (sorry 😉), this one has it in spades. The service is friendly and attentive, and the neighborhood table initiative on Wednesday evenings really livens things up. All in all: a place with character, atmosphere, and good food. Fantastic!

Terrible food and unbearably noisy neighbours.

This was the first meal my girlfriend and I had after a 12-hour flight from Singapore to Amsterdam. We absolutely loved the atmosphere, music, and food here. The manager was very polite and had a charming smile, which gave us such a wonderful start to our trip in Amsterdam!

The blonde waitress is very rude and unfriendly. She lifted the awning without warning and it nearly hit us all in the face. They served us cider in a glass, not a pint as is usually served, and the menu doesn't specify this either. The glass was half full, and half of that was ice. So imagine how much liquid there was that they didn't send it back. I don't recommend it.

Enjoyed a delicious "lellebel" on a sunny terrace. The service was pleasant.

The food was delicious! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I recommend the enoki, sticky chicken, and smash burger. The cocktails are also delicious. And very reasonable prices! (It's just a shame the cheese fondue is no longer on the menu.)

I ate here today because they have a new menu. Everything tasted excellent, as always. My favorite, the chicken satay, has a new recipe and, honestly, tastes even better. It's always pleasant on the patio, I don't think that will ever change.

Maxwell's service is always top-notch. Friendly and fast. I'm very happy with this place as a base for Friday nights. Delicious snacks and a sunny terrace!

It's one of my favourite places.

The spare ribs were very tasty and the service was friendly. So you can definitely go here for a snack and a drink! However, we were there on a Saturday evening and it was quite chilly in the place, quite strange even though the place was full. Especially at the end, several people at the table felt refreshed. We also thought it was a shame that the opening time on Saturday is until 2:00 AM, but the last round is recorded before 1:00 AM...

Quite a pleasant restaurant, the lunch was fine, but not great. The focaccia spicy chicken in particular was not recommended. The lemonades though! Fast service too, which was very nice.

Delicious smash burgers! I am not easily satisfied with burgers and rarely order them, but when I saw Smashburger I had to take it. He certainly didn't disappoint. The brioche bun was delicious, the burgers wonderfully crispy. The toppings are ideal. Fast service and good prices. It also looks cozy. The sparkling lemonades were also very tasty. It would be nice if there was also an option of sweet potato fries.

We keep coming back. The best smashburger, and love their cheese fondue during the colder months!

Sad experience... I know I didn't go to a high-end restaurant, but taking an order and cooking a steak shouldn't be a problem. Friendly waitress did not place the order correctly the first time, so the steak was served well done and with sauce (request was medium rare and without sauce). I indicated that I had asked for something else. The sweet waitress played it up well by offering a drink and a portion of extra fries (over done potato stumps) and new steak. Waited 25 minutes for yet another well done shoe sole without sauce. Then again, yes. Indicated that I had not asked for this and asked what could go wrong when frying a steak. Waitress took it back and asked if I wanted another one. Not necessary. Lamaar. She very correctly reported that it had been taken off the account. Everything was resolved more or less neatly, but all in all a bad experience. My tablemate had a great meal.

Super relaxed café. Een top gebakken uitsmijter van 3 eieren op 2 dikke sneden getoast zuurdesembrood. Goede kwaliteit Pinot Grigio en n extra glaasje water voor 16€. Fijne bediening .

Super nice waitresses! They were friendly, helpful and generous. We ordered the wrong snacks by accident, and a few minutes later they brought us the ones we originally wanted in addition. We had a great time!

A cozy cafe where you can eat delicious food for a good price in Amsterdam East. The service is friendly and pays attention to the guests. When your beer is almost finished, there will be a new one ready for you💫 Spare ribs are really great! On Monday evenings there is always a Pub Quiz (EN/NL) with Miss Jocelyn, you shouldn't miss this! Unfortunately we didn't make it to the final, but with Caitlin and Joeri it's always a party! Next time read the backbit a little more often Joeri...😅

Forget the bad reviews of the past few months. A lot has changed and that is positive. Two friendly ladies walk around with a smile in the service area. Food is simple but tasty and no long waiting times. Excellent service. And an additional advantage: the terrace is perfect for the evening sun.

Ik vond de bediening echt super aardig en oplettend. Het eten was oké, de kipsate was wat droog en de frietjes waren wel lekker, maar wel veel hele kleine snippertjes. De kleine salade vond ik iets te zuur aangemaakt. De koffie was top.

het duurde langer dan een half uur om onze ei gerechten te krijgen. Toen ik daar iets over zei tegen de mevrouw achter de bar gaf ze mij een vreselijk onbeschoft antwoord. Ik wilde mijn bestelling cancelen maar moest ervoor betalen ook al was het er nog niet en ben dus zonder eten de deur uitgelopen maar moest wel betalen. Onbeschofter kon ze niet zijn. Ik zal daar niet meer teruggaan.

Updated: 10 years later this is still a great place. Good food, friendly prices, friendly staff. Even made me a pretty good old fashioned that wasn't on the menu 🙏🏻 2014: Relaxte plek, goed eten. Aardig personeel.

Been here again for a long time with a friend. The food is great!! The service is a tall guy. VERY UNPLEASANT!!! Just walks away during our order...we also wanted something to drink, YES IT'S BUSY...hmm what do you mean??? (we spent €100 on snacks and drinks) this young man has all the bottles during the evening and leaving glasses.RIDICULOUS BEHAVIOR!!!..the young girl ended up having that mess!!! CLEAN UP.. extremely sweet girl.. helpful and customer friendly... I would say let's leave this extremely unfriendly young man.. this bag of hay is going to cost you customers. and that would be ymmr. you won't see us again for a while!!!!!! !

Cozy with surprisingly good food.

Walked in here by chance and was a really pleasant surprise. Warm greeting, really attentive staff, and great food (had the fondue and ribs). Special mention to the waitress as she must have been waiting about 40 tables and managed it without a single frown on her face.

Had a beer here recently. Looked nice from the outside, but the staff member who helped our table was very unfriendly. The music was so loud that no one could hear each other. When we asked her to turn it down a bit, the response was very incomprehensible. In addition, the staff member did not understand us while taking and delivering the order. Finally our drinks were thrown on the table. We were here with a group of colleagues who all also work in the catering industry and we all found it very strange. All in all an unpleasant experience. Maybe the rest of the staff is customer friendly, but I wouldn't risk it myself and go somewhere else next time.

Yesterday evening with friends we decided to have a drink at Maxwell's for a birthday drink for one of us. It looked like a nice bar with nice music. Once inside, the music is so loud that we have to shout back and forth to hear each other. And even then it is impossible to understand what the other person is saying. We asked if the music could be turned down a bit. This was done for literally 30 seconds, after which the music was turned up again to a headache setting. The service was very unpleasant. The lady could not hear us because of the music and this caused a very unclear order recording. When serving our drinks, the coasters were thrown on the table. Since we couldn't hear the waitress well, it became difficult to accept the drinks, which also involved a lot of shouting over the music. It's probably a nice restaurant and bar. But this was a very unhappy evening.

This was the worst service I’ve ever had in my life. Staff was very arrogant, music was way too loud, I would not want to come back! The staff was very rude, inattentive and we felt very unwelcome.

Dit restaurant heeft een redelijke lunchkaart, met voor elk wat wils. Er zijn ook vega en vegan opties, als mensen dat willen. Het restaurant zeld heeft een fijne, bijna huiselijke sfeer, maar vanwege het weer zaten wij buiten. Ook daar was het gezellig vertoeven. Het personeel is erg vriendelijk en komt op tijd vragen of alles nog jaar wens is of dat je nog iets wilt bestellen. Ik ben hier eerder ook al geweest voor diner. Goede gevarieerde kaart. TOP lokatie al zeg ik het zelf.

Gisteren met een verjaarpartij met 11 personen bezocht. Prima gegeten. Lekkere sfeer met betrokken en plezierige bediening.

Wat een fijne service en lekkere plekjes om te zitten. Zowel binnen, als buiten erg fijn. Lekkere biertjes en snackjes. We hebben er alleen geborreld, dus over het eten/diner kan ik niets zeggen. Maar dankzij de fijne service en vooral sfeer, kom ik hier zeker vaker terug! Thanks.

Gezellig eetcafé op een redelijk rustig plein in Amsterdam Oost. Groot buitenterras met parasols waar het met mooi weer goed toeven is. Binnen ook prima. Snelle en vriendelijke bediening, Snelle en goede keuken en echt goede service: onze extra wensen (bv. ander garnituur, frites goed doorbakken) werden met plezier ingewilligd en uitstekend uitgevoerd door de keuken! Dat lijken kleine dingen maar dit lukt niet in elk restaurant zo goed. Een aanrader!

Maandag avond pub-quiz gedaan en was echt fantastisch! Ze doen het heel leuk en je kan heerlijke biertjes en hapjes bestellen tijdens het spel. Bediening en vlot en leuk!

Na aan raden van een welbekende van de Maxwell hebben wij daar geluncht. Misschien wel de slechtste ervaring dit jaar. Terras half vol, 20 minuten wachten op eerste biertje ( na dat de bestelling was opgenomen) de Maxwell burger besteld. Misschien wel de slechtste burger in zijn prijs klasse.€18.95. karig portie patat geen mayo of ketchup coleslaw 1 eetlepel. Nadat direct gemeld te hebben. Was het het normale excuse. Tekort personeel. We hebben een drankje van het huis gehad. Eerste en laatste keer. Ik hoop na het lezen van deze review er voor de toekomstige klant beter word gezorgd.

Een leuk café in Amsterdam Oost. Goede service, lekker eten en altijd een goede sfeer. Zeer aardige bediening! Als je hier voor het eerst komt, wordt het je favoriete tent!

Food was excellent here and the service was great and super friendly. A must visit of you are in the area

The staff is really friendly and you feel welcome. It’s the Amsterdam vibe without the hipster nuance. We ended up here because our original plan was cancelled, but it was totally worth ending up here. The Beyond burger is really nice: juicy, nice sauce, nicely plated. The fries are from Friet uit Zuyd and they’re a bit sweet and crunchy. The mayonaise could have had some more flavour, but it could have been a vegan option. We didn’t ask. All in all, nice place, nice vibe, good food.
