Had a delicious meal, great atmosphere and friendly service, definitely recommended.

It remains a lovely place. Especially the terrace.

We went to "Ice Breaker" on our first night in Amsterdam. They have a large inside space as well as many tables outside. The service and food, both excellent. The Mussels were an enormous portion and could easily be shared by two people.

Nice place, beautiful, spacious establishment with a lovely terrace. Great menu and friendly service. Within walking distance of Carré, so perfect to combine with an evening or afternoon out.

Beautiful, spacious restaurant with a French brasserie vibe. Young but skilled and enthusiastic staff. Wide selection of dishes. Very busy terrace in the summer, spots inside by the window are also nice.

Loved the location and vibe of this place. Lovely setup, we sat on the terrace by the water. It was a really nice experience. The only slight downside was the fact that it took forever for them to bring our desserts. Other than that it was lovely and I would definitely return!

I have rediscovered the Ysbreeker and have been there a few times again; what a lovely place. I am always served quickly, and I like that they have some more non-standard items on the menu. The lemon lemonade is very sweet for my taste, but fortunately, you get a free bottle of water on the table. The grilled vegetable tartine was surprisingly large for the price; the hummus was a bit salty, but with the current heatwave, that isn't a problem. The interior looks nice, and the terrace is great for people-watching; all sorts of things cycle past all the time.

This is a really lovely restaurant. We went there for dinner with a project team; there was plenty of space, though booking in advance is definitely advisable. You can also sit outside, which offers a wonderful view of the canal. We were told that the building used to be a theatre, even if that’s a bit difficult to imagine now. The service was very attentive and fast. For my starter, I had the Cajun Gravad Lax, followed by the moules-frites as a main course—both highly recommended. If I lived in Amsterdam, I would certainly visit De Ysbreeker more often. They also have a lovely section at the front with newspapers, coffee, and a great selection of cakes. I really enjoyed the overall ambience.

Lovely grand café, it is a great place to spend time. Relaxed atmosphere. Nice crowd. The menu is classic, extensive, and reasonably priced. A lovely place to spend time at any time of the day or week, to have a drink and a bite to eat, and then take in the day. Also a lovely shady terrace.

Beautiful place, nice terrace, also tastefully decorated inside. Salmon with toast and poached egg, highly recommended. Great place for lunch.

We were here for breakfast with a group of 13 people for a bachelorette party. The service was excellent, the location very cool, and the food superb. I highly recommend it! We had made a reservation beforehand, and everything was set up for us. The only downside was that we couldn't split the bill completely, meaning we couldn't all pay separately. But that wasn't a problem for us.

Seriously the best lobster I've ever had. Staff was helpful. The restaurant seating area is on either side of a busy bike path, so it is useful for some dangerous people watching.

Café Restaurant De Ysbreeker is a historic grand café on the Weesperzijde in Amsterdam East, with a large terrace right on the Amstel. Inside, you’ll find high windows, plenty of light, and a classic brasserie feel: long benches, wooden tables, and a large bar that is bustling with life all day long. You can stop by from 8:00 AM for coffee and breakfast, and later in the day for lunch, drinks, and dinner, with a menu that falls somewhere between French and modern European: sandwiches, salads, burgers, fish and meat dishes, but also oysters, burrata, and seasonal dishes such as pumpkin risotto. De Ysbreeker has existed (in one form or another) since 1702 and is named after the icebreaker that used to break the ice on the Amstel here in the winter; the building is a national monument, and the establishment was historically an inn and tavern. The price level is “affordable but not cheap,” but very tasty!

This is a classic dutch. Confort food, drinks and a great atmosphere both at rush hours and also in betweeen, when you can read/drink/eat etc The service needs a bit more attention to the customer but if you are not in a rush (1h-1,5h for lunch) it should be ok.

Food is delicious however waiting times are longer in the evenings. It took me over two hours to have three course meal.

I think the quality in relation to the price is good. Certainly by Amsterdam standards. If you are having a night out at Carré, definitely stop by the Ysbreekert first.

Nice location and beautifully decorated restaurant! However, the portions were on the small side; it was stated that the side dishes were for 2 people, but that was often not the case. For those prices, they really should put more food on the plates.

Reliable place. I like to sometimes work from here. Tables in the back are available for laptop use. There are power outlets near some of the tables. In the afternoon it gets a bit too busy and loud to work. The menu has a wide variety of food and drink. Great ambiance.

The food is good, not super extensive but with a reasonable selection. The atmosphere depends on how busy it is and what kind of group you are with, as that is what makes it complete. The service is friendly; sometimes it took a while, but it was okay.

Wow! What a revelation! I am quite critical, but everything was perfect. The food was delicious, the service friendly and professional, the view of the Amstel was beautiful, and the overall atmosphere was lovely. One piece of advice: don't take the table by the door. You'll be sitting in a draft. Unfortunately, I live in West. Top spot!

Live in the neighborhood, presents itself as a very fancy place, but the service is rubbish. Absolutely no feeling for the people on the terrace and it seems like there is no communication between the staff. You have to struggle just to get any attention from the staff first. Received only one tea from the order first. It was already cold when the wine arrived…

We had a delicious meal before going to Carré!! It is very cozy and the food was beautiful and tasty, and not too expensive. It is also easily accessible from the city center.

I had a very disturbing experience at Café Restaurant De Ysbreeker in Amsterdam while dining with my 4-year-old son. Service was already poor—our desserts were delayed by more than 20 minutes, and despite clearly pointing out the exact dessert my child wanted, the staff brought the wrong item twice. At that point, it felt like a complete lack of care or attention. What made the situation much worse was the behavior of the waiter (named something like Jorn/Jurn) who was the one taking the order desert second time with incredibly rude attitude. As we were leaving, while I was holding my young child’s hand (4 years old!) as he forcefully bumped into my shoulder and then strongly pushed from behind that i almost fell. This felt SO aggressive and SO completely unacceptable, especially toward a parent with a small child. This experience left me feeling unsafe and disrespected and completely ruined the trip. I would strongly advise families, and particularly women with children, to think carefully before visiting. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures this does not happen to anyone else

Beautiful, bright space. We sat by the window and that was a nice spot. The food was very tasty and the lady who served us was very friendly. The fish of the day came with vegetables, but with the steak you had to order them separately, along with tasty potatoes and fries. So that caused the price to go up a bit.

We had drinks here. It was well-organized. It looked cozy. We went to the terrace later, but it was full and there was a queue! I thought that was strange.

The decor is trendy and probably comes straight from an interior design studio. It's not just a product of the past. Otherwise, it's fine.

When my brother still lived in Oud-Zuid, this was his favorite place for a snack, a drink, a destination to walk to on a Sunday afternoon, etc. Last week we agreed to meet again and since we had arranged to meet in Amsterdam, the Ysbreker was a very logical choice.

Actually, I only had a drink at a farewell party and ate some coconut croquettes. Incredibly delicious, by the way! But the staff is truly fantastic, very attentive and friendly, and they're very helpful with questions or choices, as there are plenty of drinks to choose from, from delicious craft beer to ginger tea. A top spot!

I don't know if we were unlucky and ordered the worst dish on the menu—red quinoa salad with feta—but it was absolutely ridiculous. €15.75 for a small plate with a lot of lettuce, some hard quinoa stirred in, some dried apricots, some feta, and a small piece of bread. Besides the fact that the price is ridiculous, it was truly tasteless and simply nothing special. So, because it is a nice place.

I've been going there for years. This time it was a success too.

We had brunch. The menu was diverse but nothing special. Between the omelette, fried eggs on toast, and brisket burger, the latter was special. The rest were very ordinary. Overall very friendly staff. Feels like a traditional brasserie. I hear the evening menu is impressive so we’ll have to try that before I adjust my rating. p.s. our 18 months old boy had a great time with his kids pasta in tomato sauce. He roamed the floor and felt very comfortable talking to the neighbouring tables. Kid friendly place!!

Last week, I dined at the Ysbreeker with former colleagues, and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the wine was great, and the service was friendly and gave us plenty of time to catch up. In short, an evening to look back on fondly. Highly recommended.

This place used to be one of my fav spot and a safe choice for casual bite; saying that I am disappointed is an understatement. The poached eggs came on sad stale toasts for €17; same price as any hipster place… minus the plate content satisfaction…Never again. 😭

Inexperienced service. I received my main course while the appetizer was still on the tiny table. He handed it to me because there was no room. Later, my host apologized for the fumbling. Otherwise, it's a nice place. The food is delicious.

Nice place for breakfast,all day cafe restaurant

Disappointing. Went there last night for dinner with a group of colleagues, I had the pumpkin soup (came luke warm, flavor wise nice though), the cauliflower steak which was way to thick and instead of being juicy and nicely caramelized it appeared to be steamed and than quickly fried with not enough onion creme for the size of cauliflower, only saved by ordering chips and a side salad with it, the dessert was supposed to be a Tarte Tatin but turned out to be a bake apple on a cookie.

Very busy...long wait, food ok but not special

A beautiful restaurant. I normally only sit on the terrace, but today I dined inside. I had the fish of the day, the haddock, and it was one of the most delicious fish dishes I've ever eaten. My compliments to the chef. We had two very friendly servers who were clearly customer-focused and went above and beyond for us. Sometimes the service was a bit clumsy and not very fast, but we're all human, and that clumsiness fits well with the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. For example, the kitchen forgot our order. But all in all, I will definitely be back.

Excellent restaurant. The food is well-seasoned, though it's a shame the rib-eye steak is served completely raw—without vegetables or other trimmings. The staff is friendly, but rarely at the table.
