We were really looking forward to this restaurant but unfortunately did not love it. We ordered the set menu and the food was all ok but nothing was amazing like we were hoping for. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great though and the staff was kind and helpful.

The food, service, ambiance, and vibe were amazing! A must if you’re visiting Amsterdam. Additionally, one member of our party was vegan and the chef was happy to accommodate her needs.

Excellent food and service, with a lovely atmosphere

Looks nice from the outside, but a huge disappointment. Their website encourages walk-ins without mentioning when the kitchen actually closes — a basic courtesy they skip. We showed up after 9 PM, excited for dinner, only to be told with zero care that the kitchen was closed. No apology, no effort, just “only desserts” — even while other tables still had full boards. The staff acted like they didn’t want to be there — cold, resentful, doing the bare minimum. Honestly, if you hate your job that much, maybe it’s time to find something else. Good wine and pretty lighting can’t make up for careless service and a complete lack of heart.

Delicious food, nice place and really nice seating! The fries from the frietboutique were delicious and a really large portion, definitely recommended! One star less because an ordered dish was forgotten twice, which I thought was a shame.

The waitress who served us had a bad attitude, in general the attention was poor. For the main course we ordered the steak fries, which was extremely hard to chew and the portion is very small, literally 3 pieces of meat. For starters we ordered the waffle with chicken, this is a battered dish, it arrived with the fat soaking the bread. The place is nice but it's not worth paying what is charged here for the food.

A bustling restaurant. We booked online for a Friday night. Seated straightaway. Great starter of steak tartare, followed with steak frites and espresso martinis. Highly recommended. Friendly staff.

NOT RECOMMENDED!!! I recently had a bite to eat and a drink here with my girlfriend and a friend when we went to Amsterdam for a day. But it was very disappointing. The staff was very unfriendly. The waitress threw the menu card at us, she also threw the ashtray and our food and drinks. In addition, the food was unbearable, the homemade lemonade tasted like canal water and everything was very expensive. I wouldn't go here!!!!

One of the girls was just putting the plates of food without saying anything and leaving no charisma to bad…

The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly, but we really didn't like the food. Steak tartare was full of salt, and the other dishes were also not tasty. Champagne was quite poor and the wine list in general is not wow.

Gran lugar con buena comida con un 10 para las coles de Bruselas. Pescado increíblemente sabroso y todo lo que vino a la mesa fue increíblemente bien hecho y presentado. Fuimos por compartir para intentarlo lo más posible, lo que puedo decir que fue una buena idea, pero el ritmo de las placas era muy lento, así que no te apures. Empezamos a las 7:30 y terminamos 22:30. El restaurante estaba lleno y era obvio que no tienen suficiente gente para la demanda (margen de mejora aquí chicos). La carta de vinos era la mejor. Un lugar para volver

Amazing Dinner experience with our colleagues, especially Octopus & Seabass were great in the shared dinner. Dessert portions were a bit less, could be better to serve more because they were amazing :)

I enjoyed dinner at cafe Verlan with my two girlfriends. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The look of Verlan is also beautiful and cozy, the lighting makes for amazing pictures with friends. The food was enjoyable and to the point, unfortunately I only managed to take a picture of our last dish which we shared.

Trendy place, there were not many people, smooth and friendly service, a good bottle of wine recommended

We visited Verlan last weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised by the attentive service from the start. Our request for a low table instead of a high one was accommodated without hesitation, and we were seated at a cozy spot in the back. The dimmed lighting and candlelit atmosphere created an intimate and refined setting, making the experience feel special. While the interior differs from Café Panache, it had its own charm and elegance. The service was outstanding—polite, friendly, and genuinely attentive. The staff always had a smile and made sure we felt well taken care of, which is something every guest appreciates. Now, onto the food. The meal began with warm sourdough bread served with a rich and tangy lemon butter—simple but incredibly delicious. For my starter, I had the steak tartare, which was presented in a unique way. It was topped with bottarga, a cured fish roe that added a subtle umami depth, along with a luscious egg yolk and crispy Pommes Anna, creating an interesting contrast of textures. While the dish was beautifully prepared, I found it slightly too salty for my taste. For the main course, we shared the Côte de Boeuf , and it was cooked to absolute perfection. The quality of the meat was evident, and it was prepared with care, allowing the flavors to shine. To finish, I opted for the classic crème caramel, which was smooth, creamy, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Verlan. With its classic style, inviting atmosphere, and excellent service, it’s a great spot for an elegant dinner in the heart of Amsterdam.

My husband is an amazing cook of all cuisines who takes pride in his presentation so I’m usually disappointed when we eat at restaurants. Verlan is fantastic. They really take the time to perfect their flavors and the atmosphere is gorgeous. We live around the corner so we will definitely be back.

Ery good food reasonably priced. Great for a date. Lighting is perfect. Really good cocktails too.

Would be better if you could update online menu on time as we went specifically for clams but it was removed from the menu.

A pleasantly decorated place. Good atmosphere. We came here for dinner with 4 people and had a delicious meal. In terms of service: here (as with many things) it depends on the person serving. From very good to less hospitable. We had trouble with the air conditioning - when the temperature reaches 22 or 23 degrees, it automatically starts cooling. Fantastic system, but if you are just below it - in winter - a little less nice. We were offered another table in the second (actually third) instance: a super nice solution. Toilet is upstairs.

Had a great dinner at Verlan last night! The setting is chic and welcoming, making it a perfect spot for a dinner with friends or a romantic night out. The wine list is extensive, with excellent recommendations, and there’s a wide selection of appetizers, including a delicious chicken waffle with caviar. It’s really nice to see the kitchen in action. The dishes are well-crafted and delicious—I highly recommend it!

Delicious food on Valentine's Day. The menu was well put together and the atmosphere was very pleasant. Initially it was not possible to exchange my main course with an alternative because I don't eat beef, which I found very strange. Ultimately this turned out to be possible. I thought it was a shame that she didn't explain the wines and dishes, considering they are a wine bar. Furthermore, I understand the pressure they have to perform under, especially on Valentine's Day, but I did feel rushed to finish dinner within two hours because we were allowed to sit there for a maximum of two hours. Considering everything, the food and wine were very tasty, but the service was not quite what I expected. Better luck next time…

Excellent restaurant, would highly recommend it. Everything was really great. The eggs were amazing - the anchovies were well balanced and super delicious. The waiter was very knowledgeable on food allergies and pretty attentive.

Loved our meal here. Very relaxed vibe with lovely service. We felt welcomed in and there was no pressure to have more than we needed. The food was excellent, for both meat eaters and vegetarians and we enjoyed watching the cocktails being created at the bar for other customers. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Booked a table for 2 - no table available upon my arrival but at the bar, by the entrance, just under the AC. A table was available but apparently booked for someone else (who has booked just like I did) and a rude waitress who « does not care » about our insatisfaction with the situation. Used to go often to Verlan, that was unfortunately the last time.

Been here for a short stopover. Ordered some dishes from the drinks menu. Everything was delicious. Great atmosphere and nice service. We will come back soon to have dinner here.

We were a party of seven on a chilly evening. The staff did everything they could to make us comfortable and eventually moved us to another table. The food was very good, and the staff were super friendly, from the welcome and to all of the servers we had thereafter. A special thanks to the charming young lady who took care of our table. Highly recommended.

Great restaurant overall. The decor and table settings were well furnished and laid out. The food was at such a high quality and tasted fantastic - and the service topped it off to be an overall superb experience. The fermented potato bread with gruyere starter and the Brussel sprout starter stole the show! The celeriac main, the pike/langoustine main and steak frites were excellent! Would visit again instantly.

Last visited December 2024. I should revisit this place, but rather than selecting the 4 course chefs menu, I should order directly from the menu. Not sure when I'll check this place out again. I would have expected the chefs menu to blend nicely but I only liked two of the 4 courses. Not that impressed..... overall disappointed Solo dining? Depends on where they seat you. I was at the end of the bar but felt somewhat isolated.

Great experience at Verlan restaurant! We were a group of 29 people and received excellent service. The 'to share' concept was great, with delicious food and top wines. Highly recommended for both small and large groups

We had a delicious meal here yesterday! The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the service was good & all the dishes we chose were delicious! The blinis, steak tartare, steak & fries and sea bass were especially great. This place is definitely recommended!

Nice cozy place, where clever use of space has been made. Small menu with fresh products. We ate oysters, scallops, shrimp tartelette, sea bass and cauliflower. Add a bottle of wine, coffee afterwards, 200 euros. Prices in the catering industry in the Netherlands remain shocking. Food was fine, atmosphere was good. We were informed in advance about the end time, yet we were reminded 3 times that there was an end time. Not really necessary in my opinion.

It is always a wonderful experience with the top notch staff at Verlan. They are expert with their timing, attention, and description/delivery of fantastic food. We were there on the 21st for a lovely holiday dinner and living in Luxembourg and traveling through, we always try to come to this restaurant. It never disappoints and we can't recommend it highly enough. We look forward to our next visit.

Great restaurant. Very European atmosphere visited by many from the city. You really enjoy the gastronomy and the atmosphere you find.

Nice thing, just took some searching. The service started well by being immediately provided with snacks and drinks. We also opted for individual meals or a chef's menu. 3 of the group including me chose this one. I didn't regret it, delicious, delivered quickly and super tasty combinations. I think it is definitely worth coming again so that the other dishes can also be tried.

I recently visited Verlan and was quite surprised to find a charge for water service, especially since we had to pour our own water. There also didn't seem to be enough waiters to handle the water service. Given the overall cost of the meal, this felt like an unnecessary extra charge. I hope they reconsider these aspects, as it has potential to be a good spot.

Impeccable food and service - we shared a starter, two mains, two deserts and a bottle of wine and it came in at 60 euros each. We also told them when arriving we were celebrating our one year anniversary and we'd had our first date in that very spot! To which they congratulated us with two complimentary glasses of champagne. I will come back to this place whenever I visit Amsterdam.

We weren't served, but the other guests were. And this despite the fact that we spoke to three different waiters and the restaurant was only half full. We left and went to another restaurant.

Prima restaurant met een mooie wel beperkte kaart. Als voorgerecht een garnalen cocktail die was prima. Hoofdgerecht een steak genomen die gewoon heel goed was. De saus werd geserveerd op het bord. Dit mag apart wat mij betreft maar de smaak was prima. De wijn is aan de prijzige kant maar een ruime Kaart met flink wat keuze. De bediening is vlot en vriendelijk en zakelijk. Wij komen zeker nog een keer terug.

Staff went above and beyond - every single one of them. The food was good, with a few highlights (e.g. the veal tongue and the chocolate tart desserts from the chef's menu were outstanding) but the treatment from the staff is what made it a wonderful experience with their kindness.

Great place, highly recommended. Even though we didn’t have too much time and had to leave pretty early I recommend spending here some time, tasting wines and trying out the chef’s specials.

Underwhelming and disappointing. We didn't have a nice experience here due to the service and overall energy of the space. Extremely long wait time to order. Most of the food was actually quite good ( very fresh oysters + fish, veggie dishes not so good) except we really had no idea what we were eating as everything was just kind of thrown down on our table. Issues with allergies although we called ahead. In the end it's not nice to leave a restaurant feeling how we did.

This restaurant was quite a disappointment. I found the food amazing, with great flavors, but the portions were extremely small for the price. No real surprise with the chef's menu if you're a vegetarian, as they only offer one option per course. The main issue we had was the service, we waited an hour between courses. We asked the staff multiple times for the food, but they simply disregarded us.

Food is ok ,not spectacular, but service is horrible 3 hours to serve 3 course menu which one was dessert and even charge for the bread because we were starving and need to keep asking for the food all the time.Not worth for the price and hype!

Chef's lunch menu was perfect. Both in taste and visually very attractive. Good wines and a lovely dry champagne. Friendly staff that helped provide a nice ambiance. Not the cheapest but it's the quality that I remember most!

The appetizers and desserts were great, but the entrees were not as good. The quality of the meat in my beef short ribs was not that great, and my wife’s beetroot vegetarian dish had very little beetroot and was mostly apples. The atmosphere was great with lots of beautiful people dining there.

Elevated experience, overall, without being overpriced.
