I got such a beating that I went home completely bewildered.

Great indie bar. Decent drinks and prices. Bit crowded but hey I'm grumpy maus it was a Friday night and the crowd was nice, not so standard outfits and radiance. The kinda folks to have a laugh play chess and leave politics. Do recommend!

The staff here don’t know how to treat customers. Our beer was taken without explanation, followed by swearing and hostility. A second bartender repeated the same behaviour. Later, when we rentered, they confronted us again and told us they didn’t care whether we stayed. Zero professionalism.

A simple misunderstanding turned into aggressive behaviour from the staff. Instead of explaining the rule about drinks and the pool table, the bartender grabbed our beer and insulted us. Another bartender repeated the same treatment. When we tried to go back inside, the hostility continued. Not a place I’d recommend.

If you care about basic respect, avoid this place. A bartender took our drink without saying anything, then started swearing at us for putting it on the pool table, a rule we weren’t aware of. Another staff member joined in with more rude comments. When we walked back inside, they picked another fight. Extremely unpleasant environment.

Staff were openly hostile from the moment we arrived. One bartender took our beer without a word, then swore at us when we asked what happened. A second staff member doubled down with more insults. When we tried to go back inside, they escalated again and told us they didn’t care if we stayed or left. Unprofessional and disrespectful.

While I was waiting for my bike to be repaired, I had a very pleasant afternoon at Soundgarden, thanks to bartender Thé and regulars Anna, Penny, Warren, and the hat-trick hero against Germaan at Sportpark de Eendracht :-)

filthy place. rats running around. people doing all kinds of *things* in the bathroom. unbelievably rude staff. unwelcoming and disrespectful to a level that is not acceptable.

If you want the staff to take your drink from your hand walk away, verbally ASSAULT you, then come at you again, call you all kinds of names while you are just trying to communicate, and be absolutely patronized by the RUDEST and most unacceptable behavior possible, feel free to come i guess. we actually thought the staff were going to throw hands with us??? what is this? this behavior was absolutely unacceptable and disappointing. horrible place. extremely dirty and unwelcoming anyway. god knows whats going on in the bathrooms. would NOT recommend to my worst . do not even come close to this place if you dont want your night to be ruined. will not recommend to anybody. who do you think you are honestly? inhumane behavior yelling at a customers face when you are not in the right ONE BIT. if you dont want something to be done in your bar, you SAY IT. you warn people, ONCE!!!. you dont call them names that i am not allowed to type here, but pretty bad if you can imagine. you dont TAKE their drinks from their hand, you dont come and YELL at their face. they deserve the worst of the worst customers at your door for those two people working there. thats what you’re asking for. The drunk old man, and the younger guy with glasses. Buy a punching bag. And mouse traps for gods sake.

Terrible experience. I’ve been to sound garden 4 or 5 times before, but the old feeble bartender and short Dutch waiter with glasses completely ruined the experience for the night. My friends unknowingly put their glass on the pool table because it was their first time there at the bar, and the old guy came and took it away which is fair, but then returned and swore and verbally abused my friends, while the ill-sighted waiter stood behind him nodding his head for some sort of validation. The act of putting the glass on the table is wrong, but escalating the situation and calling customers “— stupid” and “— crazy” is extremely unprofessional, and inhumane. A conversation followed up with the short waiter where he repeated himself 86 times without understanding that there was no need to swear at or insult a customer. Not to mention how dirty and poorly maintained the place— and the staff— is, broken glass in about every corner of the bar (which is pretty ironic considering how the bar cares so deeply about their precious property). If you come to sound garden and see either of the staff members with behavioral issues— or neither and you just come near this decrepit cesspit of an establishment if you can even call it that— leave or you might get called “stupid” for walking through the door wrong. Never coming back here again.

I was travelling alone, asked around for where might suit me, was recomended sound garden. Great place. I was taken in by a group as honarar friend...met loads of people. Lovely outdoor area by the canal. Friendly staff. The bouncer was was the highlight of my night, top guy!!! I'll be recommending this place to everyone.

The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is worth the trip. The terrace was very pleasant.

You know you’re in the right place when everybody in there is under 30 and they’ve run out of Jägermeister! Cheap drinks and chill vibe is what we were after and is what we got. Making some friends along the way since they had a Foosball Table.

Terrace = great, prices reasonable, pool table €2 (slow cloth though)

Awesome bar! A little out of the way from the city center, which gives it a truly alternative vibe. Reasonable prices and very friendly service! Great atmosphere, and the best part is the music! They play vinyl, spectacular rock music! I definitely recommend it 100 percent!

August 8th, 2025 - our experience was ruined by the French bartender on duty. Instead of providing a welcoming service, he made a sarcastic remark that was completely unprofessional.

Soundgarden is so much fun. It’s a very social bar, with everybody being open for a chat. The lines are always quick at the bar, even when it’s super busy, and the pool table is the cherry on top.

Tempted to not make a review of this place, its charm is that it’s not full to the brim of tourists and an amazing place to sit by the canal and have a beer or two. Can’t wait to go back

Really cool bar away from the bustling tourist crowds. It has a garden, next to the river. Its a nice spot to relax and drink a local beer. You can get there by canal boat even. I was there only in the afternoon but I think at night it must be pretty banging with live music. Friendly staff that helped me choose the right beverage. If I lived in Amsterdam I think I would end up going there a lot.

Cozy place, good music and nice atmosphere, every time. And Lorin is a top barmaid by the way! Always relaxed and friendly, nice that there is such a permanent face within the Soundgarden.

Service was nice being greeted and served by a kind gentleman. The pinball machine was a nice touch but it really needs a little investment as it looks very run down. Has the potential to be a really good place for a night out.

Great bar, very authentic, a bit like old Amsterdam!

Very nice place and service! The blonde girl serving there was really cute and kind to me, offering to take me a picture with the bar’s cat that showed up ❤️

The staff was not so friendly, me and my friend were very cheerful and they look at us with a "you are not welcome"regards. Despite of that the drink was okay(a Ricard is still a Ricard) and there is a lot of fun things like the flipper, kicker and pooltable. WC are not the cleaner I've seen.

On King's Eve a top team with bands. On other evenings a bit lacking in atmosphere. Still a real brown pub.

So we just got told to leave the bar by this blond lady behind the bar because we brought our dog inside. We were already there for over 30 minutes. My dog was sitting on my lap doing nothing. There was a cat 1,5 meters away in a carton box on the bar. Everything was peace and harmony. The bartender told us all this sudden to leave, no dogs allowed - she lectured us: there might be glass on the floor - there might be too much noise. The dog has no say: no discussion possible. I’m sorry what about your cat in a Carton box on the bar? She didn’t want to give an anwer. Sorry but whom do you think you are? she gave us attitude and didn’t want to answer our questions about the cat - why not? What if i have allergies? Do you warn me there is a cat sleeping ON then bar? To dramatize it she even turned of the music in the whole bar because she got so angry. Was that nescessary? What is your problem - maybe put a sign outside the bar: Only bar in Amsterdam that doesn’t allow dogs. Then we would have known. I didn’t expect this in this liberal kind of bar. This experience simply ruined our good mood. Maybe just bad luck with this angry bartender. Never coming back just because of her - What an attitude.

Extremely Disappointing Experience – Not Dog or Cat Friendly We visited this bar expecting an alternative, welcoming vibe – but it was the complete opposite. We brought our lovely dog and a cat with us, and instead of being met with kindness, we were told off and threatened with having our dog taken away. Absolutely unacceptable behavior. If you’re an animal lover or looking for a place with a truly alternative and inclusive atmosphere, do not go here. This place fails to deliver on its image and values.

Really cool bar with punk rock vibes. They have a foosball table, pool table and pinball machine. Beautiful outdoor beer garden which is great in the sun.

Great alternative bar. The place has a unique atmosphere and plays very nice music. They have quite a big garden in the back but on busy nights it's always full. Beer is some of the cheapest I've seen at regular bars in Amsterdam and they have quite some options! I will definitely return!

It has bad beer, the atmosphere is very good, it is very crowded when the weather is nice, it may be difficult to find a place on the terrace.

No food, beer from plastic glasses, prices do not match the cheap appearance and absence of table service. Kind of wannabe Berlin, but not inclusive, and people are not allowed to know what they wear. Old man as boss who treats guests and staff with disrespect. Dirty tea towel in the toilet to dry your hands with.

Nice chilled out place for a few drinks with a cool vibe. There were pool tables and classic arcade games as well as a decent sized beer garden out the back.

Nice tent, cozy atmosphere and nice music! The only annoying thing is that the music quickly turns up very loud, so you have to shout in each other's ears. Staff usually also seem to dodge when you want to order, mindah.

I liked the man who is a cool bartender! They charge you 1 euro for the glass when you return it and they refund it to me. They didn't give it back to me. They could see when I asked.

This is a nice place to meet up with friends because it has foosball and arcade games, good music, and reasonable prices for drinks and snacks. I love the design of the toilet walls; it’s an exquisite art style.

The ambiance there is amazing, with a youthful rock 'n' roll and unhinged vibe 🎸. The highlight is the private terrace, which adds to the experience 🌟. The only downside is the beer prices, with two simple pints costing around 14 euros 🍻💸.

This used to be my go-to bar in Amsterdam with friends, but I stopped going after an upsetting and disrespectful experience with one of the bartenders. I asked if it was okay to bring the beers to the table myself, since they didn’t offer table service or trays, and he yelled at me in response. The treatment was completely disrespectful, and it made me feel unsafe as a woman. What was once a favorite spot has turned into just another bar with entitled behavior.

This place is great. Great vibe, excellent music, and foosball!! As an American who thought he was pretty decent… I won a couple games, thought I was tough… then got absolutely destroyed by two Italian dudes who were very gracious, even though they just destroyed me and some dude from Portugal (who was very good-and I’m sorry I let you down). Also, I don’t know “Dutch rules” but we played normal international rules. But I think if we got shut out we would have to crawl under the table (gross). But thankfully we got like 2 or 3 goals on the board. But it was close. Also the beer here is good.

Live your best life here. Order 10 pints at a time, fill your boots and don't look back. Unique in Amsterdam no other like it in the world probably. Don't look at the photos just go and make some memories that you'll never remember. It's recommended to start and end your night here.

A very unpleasant ponytailed waiter, with terrible attention, practically sent us out of the bar for ordering a different drink.

A disgusting place. Terrible service. They discriminated against us for being Latino. They pushed us down the stairs for no reason. They refuse to provide us with security cameras. My friend was left with her foot like that after she was pushed down the stairs.

Very good beer and good atmosphere. A little expensive.

I’ll say this is one the rare left Amsterdam hippy bar in the city center. Great terrace close to the canal. Inside it’s a bit old school a bit rocknroll- you know the feeling. Beers are big and cheap. It’s a shame that these kind of bars are less and less in Amsterdam now, things in the city becoming fancy and standardise boring.

Cozy place with a lot of people who look like squatters. But there is plenty to do and you can also sit outside. Also very good prices for the drinks and they are not stingy.

Very nice punk bar in amsterdam, really cheap compared to other places and good music. Finding a table is a rare occasion especially for big groups unfortunately so i would recommend going there early

Featured on Antony Bourdain’s “the layover” programme. Super cool dive bar with an awesome terrace out the back. Great music playing and a very chilled vibe with smokers and drinkers mingling together. They seem to go at their own pace here, and I’ve tried visiting at opening time a few times only to find the place closed. Easy come easy go, and that’s certainly the vibe here. Recommended for sure if you’re looking for a local feel and cool times.

The bar itself is pretty cool and the people hanging out there are very chill. You will get ripped off and taken advantage of as a tourist though, as the staff likes to overcharge you on drinks or scam you when returning your cups.

They let us in the first time and then kicked us out for no reason. The security guy, which is an amazing person, let us in for a second time, we then bought 2 beers but the guys kicked us out one more time because we didn’t have our paper ID, they didn’t let us finish our beers and stole our money. DONT GO THERE, RUN AWAY JUST GIVE MONEY TO THE SECURITY GUY HE IS THE BEST!!!

This is the worst bar I have ever been to. I bought a beer without ID and then got kicked out for not having my ID by an angry barman, they didn’t even allow me to finish the beer I payed for.
