Cannibale Royale Rozengracht in Jordaan

Very disappointing experience. The burger was extremely dry and almost tasteless. The vegetables felt undercooked and added no flavor at all. We asked to replace the burger with a steak, but the steak arrived after a very long wait and looked honestly terrible. It was not properly cooked, so we decided to cancel it altogether. The fries were another letdown — both too dry and too oily at the same time, which made them unpleasant to eat. The only thing that was somewhat okay was the mac & cheese, but unfortunately one decent item can’t save the overall experience. For the price and expectations, this was far below standard. I wouldn’t normally write a negative review, but this visit really missed the mark.

The opening hours are wrong on Sundays. There was no one there when we arrived at 12:15. Finally, someone came and told us they couldn't serve us because they had no one in the kitchen.

We dined here last week after making a reservation. You have to love the atmosphere inside. The music at the front of the restaurant is (too) loud, which isn't to everyone's taste. The music in the back was more subdued. The service was good, and the staff went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The food was good (at least for me). My wife had a piece of meat that had an excessive amount of fat on it. The side dishes (ordered separately) were also sufficient and good. It's a shame the meat dish was served on a wooden board. It doesn't seem very hygienic to me.

Really nice place to sit, eat and drink. We’ve had a steak and medium was more rare than medium. But in the end it was good. Nice atmosphere though.

Visiting from the US, and I'd fly back over here just for the short rib. We got the sampler, with bread. The chicken was SO moist and flavorful, ribs fell apart like they should, pork belly was beautifully smoked, the aforementioned short rib was divine. The pickles were a standout- perfectly sweet & sour. Service was great, atmosphere welcoming & funky-cool. Highly recommend.

Let's not beat about the bush here, Cannibale Royale is just about the best meat restaurant in Amsterdam. You'd be very hard-pressed to find a constantly better one. My son and I have tried all of them through the years and they are each as good as the other. Their steaks are to die for. And service is always excellent and attentive.

Delicious rib-eye steak (L'Incroyable, 300g) and roasted pork ribs (Cannibale Royal's Favorite)! Recommended starters: Le Camembert Diabolique or Cannibale Chicken Wings.

We found this place by chance and were really surprised! The atmosphere was very nice and comfortable. The food was amazing — the best meat we have ever tried! We really enjoyed our dinner and will definitely come back.

My god was the food delicious!! Fresh and tasty, absolutely everything we ordered was delicious. We ordered the wings to start as well bitter balls. Our individual courses were the short ribs and the roasted chicken. Amazing amazing amazing. Highly recommend.

We came for a late lunch around 4 PM. Google Maps showed the restaurant as open, but when we arrived, we were told the kitchen was already closed and that we should come back later for dinner. The listed hours are misleading — they should update their schedule to reflect reality.

Love the decor and quality of meats here! It's one of few chains that allows for a bigger booking of 14+pp. Getting the whole chicken to share was great vauleal, very succulent.

I have been a customer for years to this place and the food was always amazing and worth of value - Service as well exceptional However, last 2 times i was surprised how bad the quality has changed . One time i had short ribs which was mostly bones and a lot of fat rather than meat. Second time i ordered the known and famous ribs which i always liked and they were delivered as it was boiled and almost not cooked Not sure if its worth trying again but petty such a good place to downgrade its known quality

I tried to go to another restaurant nearby, but unfortunately, they were all full. However, the owner of that restaurant recommended I go to this Cannibale Royale location and I'm so glad I did! I was just recovering from a very bad bout of food poisoning and this was the first real meal I was going to have since getting sick. It was exactly what I was looking for. I had an amazing steak with a side of mashed potatoes. I sat at the bar and had wonderful service from Yuri. If I'm ever back in Amsterdam, I will definitely come back here!

At a colleague's recommendation, we ate at Cannibale Royale. It's a beautiful restaurant with a cozy atmosphere. Plenty of choices for a delicious meal. We opted for the Argentinian steak and spare ribs. Delicious! The staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.

We had another wonderful meal here last Saturday. Great service, delicious food, and lots of variety. We were served by a new host, but I recognized the old guard. We couldn't have wished for better. That's what makes a good restaurant visit so much better. There was a slight misunderstanding about an order of cauliflower bites instead of cauliflower steak, which was resolved very politely. I should have been more careful when communicating in English. I hope it didn't embarrass him. Because that would be a real shame for the business; he was head and shoulders above the rest, while the others are also very good. On to the next time.

Don't miss the pork belly side! I had the Classic burger or something, basic burger with bacon, cheddar, onions...spot on. With a side of sweet potato fries because why would you not do sweet potato fries instead of fries EVER. But the star a Was the 100grams of Pork Belly with bbq sauce, pickled red onions a huge sliced pickle. The pork belly was crispy, charred a bit and REALLY hit the spot. 10 outta 10 so glad I stopped in. Thanks guys!

A very cozy, fun place. I've been there many times and order from them often. The burgers are always delicious, as is the steak. Attentive staff, good wine. The nicest thing I've noticed is that the menu often features wine AND beer pairings with the food.

Delicious food,I always get the chicken wings ,the burger because is always full of things and super tasty, the Madame blanche ( dessert) is also fabulous, the staff is amazing and really friendly and always available for you if you need it even though they are busy , in some places is a bit too hot or especially next to the kitchen the smell can be really strong, but cannibale royale is one of my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam and I m always trying to go there twice a month.

We arrived early and were warmly invited to a table. The interior is interesting, cozy, and the staff is attentive. The chicken wings are much better than at the similar Cannibale Royal on Handboogstraat. They also provide plenty of wet and dry wipes (!), which is surprising for Amsterdam. I definitely recommend it!

The Plateau du Cannibale for two was genuinely excellent, and contained possibly the best pickle I have ever eaten? Also highly recommend all three house beers.

Very nice atmosphere. For appetizers we had nachos (AMAZING) and garlic bread (delicious and warm). The mains were a burger and 2 fillets also extremely tasty. The meats in particular were perfectly cooked. For side dish fries (nothing special).

Great location with good food and friendly staff

We were yesterday with friends and while being served the waiter dropped meat oil on my pants. I asked him if this was water or oil and he only replied this was oil without any excuse. This kind of thing could happen however giving no excuse and showing no empathy should not.

We were seated at the bar and a glass was accidentally broken right next to me. Unfortunately, the pieces landed on my plate of fries and around me. I was given a quick ‘sorry’ and new fries, but still had to pay the full bill. I understand accidents happen, but it didn’t feel right to be charged in full after such an unpleasant experience.

Cannibal is always a guarantee. I went there for the first time in 2019, the last time a few days ago: the quality is as excellent now as it was then. It will be a regular stop on my trips to Amsterdam.

I absolutely loved my experience at Cannobale Royal. Every dish I tried was full of flavor and beautifully presented. I honestly enjoyed every bite. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between elegant and relaxed, making it a place where you instantly feel comfortable yet special. The staff were attentive and welcoming, which added even more to the overall experience. It’s rare to find a spot that delivers on both taste and ambiance at this level, but Cannobale Royal truly does. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a steak dining experience in Amsterdam.

Nice restaurant with very nice and attentive staff. The food was ok, finger food (nachos, chicken wings) and burgers. However, there was cartilage or bone residue in the patty. That's why only 4 stars. The black beer with coffee was interesting.

Seriously? I ordered online and waited an hour, only to receive this horror of a burger along with mushy fries. I thought about calling them, assuming they’d want to know about this potential health hazard, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. They couldn’t care less and just told me to contact the delivery company. Avoid at all cost

The dinner was very disappointing. The meat is the only thing with a good taste. For the rest, they have no idea how to cook properly. The chicken was with no flavour at all, dry inside and not savoury. Spinaches without taste and broccoli described in the menu with garlic, I think in the hospital they can cook them better. No taste at all, not even salt at all. Plus, I ordered also a mocktail that was basically just colored water, and regarding the chicken I ordered the whole one but they served the half size, and I asked to correct the bill then. The only good thing was the Brazilian waitress that was smiling and gentle.

In my opinion, the atmosphere of this place is truly unique, soft lighting, good music, and delicious food. The quality of the food is excellent: the steak was delicious, and their Caesar salad was amazing too! We also really enjoyed the vegetables, fresh and perfectly seasoned. The friendliness and charm of the staff are the cherry on top! We’ll definitely be back, and I would recommend it without hesitation.

We were shocked when the steak tartare came out twice — once intentionally, and once disguised as a rib-eye. Our medium rare rib-eye was unmistakably rare. When we politely mentioned this to the waiter, he “corrected” us, insisting that this was their version of medium rare. Gaslighting at the dinner table? That’s a first. The table next to us didn’t fare much better — both ordered medium. One steak was still mooing, the other was practically well-done. I’m sorry, but a steakhouse should follow international doneness standards. If you can’t cook a steak to the temperature the customer requests, you shouldn’t be calling yourself a steakhouse.

In a slightly offbeat setting, you can enjoy delicious meat dishes for good value. The portions are specified for the meat, generous for the nachos. Good selection of cocktails. The beef was truly excellent and very well cooked. Super friendly servers and efficient service. Special mention for the excellent musical atmosphere. Remember to book, it gets very busy, and pay close attention to the address because there are several restaurants of the chain in the city.

Bitterballen and oedipus beer were delicious

Returned after years and it is just as tasty as ever. The food is consistently outstanding and the service is also good. The ‘Le Modeste’ is incredibly tender and flavorful, cooked to perfection. I really enjoyed the sauces they used to serve, but now they offer chimichurri, which is nice too. The fresh, tangy and herby flavor is perfectly complemented by the meat and pickled onions.

2025 update: came again, for a group of 4+2 children we took starters and: lobster tail, shared meat sampler plate (pic), and 1 rib eye (medium-rare). Everything was excellent, especially the steak. Dinner for 3: we shared “Plateau de Cannibale for two” and L’Exceptionnel, which I think was a good choice for hungry men. The (medium rare) steak was a tiny bit dry, otherwise all was great, especially the selection of the Plateau. 30 euro pp for dinner with starters and wine, I think it’s fair.
