Probably the best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam! Located in an old canal house, they offer excellent Italian food, from pizzas to pastas, good wines and great staff. After so many years in Amsterdam, they haven't lost nor quality nor the Italian atmosphere.

A safe choice for italian food in Amsterdam. They became a bit pricier lately but at least they didn't cut on the quality, portions or service.

The food was good. The portions were generous, and one of the waitresses spoke Spanish, so it wasn't difficult to communicate. The price was reasonable for Amsterdam.

Cozy restaurant, fast service and the food was great

Unfortunately this restaurant took a bad turn somewhere along the way. This was one of the places I used to go to a lot and used to recommend. The pasta and atmosphere were still good but unfortunately the staff, wait time, pizza and tiramisu weren’t. I’m not sure what happend tbh. I would recommend taking your business somewhere else until they improve… Must have been overhyped on tiktok or something and then they must have cut cost since there will be no returning customers anyway… Zonde maar is wat het is, genoeg betere Italiaanse restaurants.

While the atmosphere is great, the service and food is disappointing. Good pasta but not so great pizza, not really an Italian pizza. The Tiramisu was no real Tiramisu. Even the Albert Heijn one is better and that one isn’t good at all..

Awful experience at the door. Stupidly, we hadn't made a reservation. The three of us (two adults and a child) arrived and waited at the door for over fifteen minutes. Everyone else was seated before us, and we couldn't get in until an hour later. And there was no pizza for us... they were still trying to get our teeth cleaned. It's possible they're full, or they don't care for children... But if they do, tell them sooner... It's a real shame because I had truly positive memories. I went here often in my youth, and because of the consistent quality, I've kept coming back over the years. I wanted to pass that on to my child. Now I'm left with a terrible memory.

We had a wonderful meal last night! And the staff were fantastic. We had a fantastic experience with delicious food and great Italian wines!

I really enjoyed it, and the service was fantastic. The restaurant is a bit loud because of the many tables, but that didn't bother me. The food was great, and the service was excellent. :) Definitely recommended!

Ordered food here last weekend. It was so so so bad. We literally had to throw the focaccias with tuna away because they were so tasteless. Next to it we ordered pizza. €8 for a tiny slice is outrageous and also tasted horribly. I wish I had more positive feedback but for the prices they charge, please be warned.

Thanks for looking after our party of 18! We had to wait a little while for our table to become free but the food and atmosphere were one of the best we've had on a night out in a long while - lots of choice and everyone enjoyed their meals! Thank you :-)

Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great. The staff were quite rude and the service was disappointing, which really affected the overall visit. The only positive was the pizza it tasted good.

Fabulous location right on the canals in the '9s'. Food was delicious, very good! The only thing I would say is that you can tell that it is a tourist place as the waiters have zero interest in making it a memorable meal. They could do even better by showing interest in guests and having a special 'spark' to make it even more special. Ask for table on 2nd floor with canal view. Very cute.

The food, service and ambience (we sat upstairs by the window) was amazing. Everyone was so friendly from the moment we walked through the door to our server Mario and even the bartenders who delivered my well-deserved and delicious martini. If you're in Amsterdam, please eat here. It was recommended to us by a local and I can see why. It is well worth it!

Quality is going down in this place. Have been many times, but service quality isn't what it used to be.

I had dinner there on the 18th and 19th, and both nights were excellent. I'd been there last year and a few years ago as well. The food is superb, perhaps a bit pricey, but reasonable for Amsterdam. The problem is that it's so crowded that arriving and getting a table has been rather unpleasant these last two nights. We all had reservations and arrived on time, but the chaos at the door was immense. But I'll be back.

Fantastic ambience and excellent service! You are welcomed with open arms. The bartender Gabor knows a lot about the perfect wine for the perfect dinner. Would recommend the Mezzi rigatoni among all the other delicious choices

We were left waiting at the entrance for at least 5 minutes waiting to be seated and in that time although staff were near us we were not even acknowledged. We asked for seating next to each other and were told that wasn't possible but the two tables that would have accommodated that were free all evening. My starter was warm, not hot and the pizza was not the best. Meatballs were bland. At the end of the evening after receiving the bill it took 10 minutes for someone to take payment. Overall a disappointing experience and we will not be returning.

Standard Italian fare cooked well. Service was quick but could have been more friendly. Crowded, buzzy, lively atmosphere.

Restaurant with a very romantic atmosphere. The food was excellent and the desserts were spectacular.

I would rate 6 stars across the board if I could. On our trip there was one thing I was looking for and it was amazing Italian food. Not touristy Italian. Casa di David was the best Italian ive had so far. Absolutely delicious. Our waiter was incredible and patient and very attentive. I was with my husband and our 2 friends and everyone enjoyed their meal. I will be back one day!

We had 2 meals at Casa di David during our short stay in Amsterdam - returning as the 1st was so good & the 2nd didn’t disappoint. Prompt friendly service even on a Friday night when very busy. Really delicious food on both occasion. Definitely recommend booking in advance.

I ordered truffle ravioli cooked in butter; they arrived cold and the butter was almost solidified, making them incredibly indigestible. The waitress noticed and offered a discount on the bill. The atmosphere upstairs is very, very noisy.

I’ve been here many times and even recommended this place to other travelers We are greeted very friendly and taken to a beautiful table that we were very happy with The first person that came to ask us if we would like anything to drink had the look of death in their eyed like they would’ve rather been anywhere else. We Asked for tapwater as we were still deciding on wine We specifically asked for tapwater because they have a tendency to charge if you don’t say tapwater and yes, they still charged us. The next server was very pleasant and did a great job of up selling us to a more expensive bottle of wine, which was delicious and a few add-ons prior to our entrées. I have no problem with this. She was extremely friendly and pleasant.. There were four of us, and all four of our meals were pretty bland this go round the Lasagna was dry burnt edged and no sauce The Bolognese was the same. The pumpkin ravioli also was very dry. The reason for my three star review was their practice of charging for tapwater. This is not the first time they have done this. And the very cold demeanor of our first server We only saw that one time. And the food was not near us up to par as I’m used to at this location.

Been to this restaurant a few times and the food is always good. Unfortunately tonight we were served by a waitress called Elizabeth. She was particularly rude and her serving manners were poor. She placed items on the table with little care, just rough and uncaring service. Taking our main course before we were finished and then turning her eyes upward as if we were in the wrong. Then we were presented with the bill when we still had half a bottle of wine to drink. She snatched the bill back and tore it up in front of us again looking to the ceiling. I've never really seen service like it! We spoke to the manager before we left and made our complaint. It spoiled our evening and has really put us off using this restaurant again. So unfortunate as the food is good.

The food is good, delicious Italian food, a bit pricey especially the salads, but otherwise everything is perfect

It's a nice, cozy place. The staff is friendly and efficient. You see families and first dates. The food was delicious. I had monkfish with a delicious sauce, and the fish was really fresh.

Use to come here few years ago so we tried it again and first, the Aperol spritz we ordered were not sparkling at all, took 30 min to get new ones… once we were ready to place order for food, the waiter said they were no pizzas today as the person went home sick … will be great to have know it before we ordered our drinks. Not a nice experience, food is good but there are plenty of better Italians restaurant in Amsterdam.

We ordered the lasagne which was old and microwaved and we ended up with bad diarrhea. We went there on recommendation of our hotel. Nice interior but super slow and not very good service.

One of the best Italian dinners I've had. The staff are also super kind and helpful. Everything was fresh and yummi including the deserts which are usually disappointing at restaurants of this kind.

We were met with an abrupt greeting from management and made to wait outside in the rain because they were running behind after catering for a large group, so we felt unwelcome from the get go. The only reason I’ve scored a 3 for service is because our waitress was excellent and moved us from the initial table we were gestured to sit at without us having to ask — which was abruptly yanked apart from another table and plonked in the area where staff were back and forth to the kitchen — and she was professional and friendly despite clearly being under pressure. The food was pretty mediocre too, aside from the delicious pasta sauce. On the whole I’d recommend trying elsewhere.

By far the best Italian Restaurant I know of within NL. The food is absolutely delicious and traditional. I had dinner here for the first time in 2014 and still after 11 years it is absolutely amazing. The only thing I personally would like to see improved is that space feels rather cramped but then again it's Amsterdam.

We visit this Italian restaurant every year, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is always delicious and carefully prepared. A perfect spot for a memorable meal that we look forward to every time.

The food was not amazing. The restaurant ie extremely loud. Tables are very close one to another. The waiter was first serving people that came 20 minutes after us. The cold platter was brought warm at room temperature. Imagine warm prosciutto and cheese.

I've been coming to the Netherlands 56 times for 28 years. Every time I come I make sure one night is Casa di'David. Never disappoints. The waiters are wonderful and can be very funny if allowed...hahaha.

We've been dining at Casa di David for nearly 30 years. The food, staff and service have been consistently excellen, and exactly as expected. The food is hearty, comforting and "Italian". The service is friendly, efficient and makes you feel at a place "where they know your name", even if they don't. And the atmosphere is busy, as loud as it should be, cozy, lit as dimly as appropriate, and warm. It's home.

We received a tip to eat at your place. A golden tip indeed. Delicious food, great friendly service, and a cozy atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!

Be careful because they scam you making you pay 7.25€ for a bottle of water. Ridiculous!!!! Also, it is quite noisy...

I've been hosting a large group from work every year (going on 9+ years) we're in town for a trade show. It's tradition now, but they always go out of their way to fit our group in. I dont think they remember me/us. They are just ALWAYS so welcoming and accommodating like we're family. Food is amazing. Service always on point. One of my favs.

The slowest restaurant in the world, and not worth the time to spend

The food is great, the service is amazing. My only complaint is that it gets too loud in rush hour so you cant have a decent conversation without shouting. The food is 100% worth it though. Will go again whenever i crave some good Italian food.

We had booked in advance on advice, but upon arrival, the result was the same with or without a reservation! A mediocre welcome; the group of Americans behind us even got priority seating even though they had just arrived, after us in the queue! A group of Americans is worth more than two French tourists... Dark and noisy atmosphere on the ground floor; we were upstairs, which was quieter because there were fewer people at the time we dined. Service, nothing special. Negative point: we had come to enjoy an Italian pizza, of course, and unfortunately, when it came time to order, the server told us that "the pizza maker is sick, no pizzas"! So, there was only pasta left or we had to leave, so we decided to stay. We hadn't been informed at the entrance of the restaurant upon our arrival, of course... The pasta was okay, but nothing special. In short, you might have better luck than us, but the Italian restaurant is pretty average for the dishes you order. I don't know how they manage when the pizza chef is on vacation, or he doesn't take vacation but gets sick ;-) You can go there without a reservation.

We had a reservation for six people and were promptly seated at our time. The food was delicious. We loved the focaccia bread, meatball and burrata/mozzarella starters. We each got separate main courses and also enjoyed those (speaking for myself, the lasagna was excellent). Leave room for some dessert as the tiramisu was delicious. So glad a friend recommended this place.

Heads up - Ordered a few items because everything sounded so good! 1 Appetizer, 1 small salad, 2 main dishes and a side dish. €120+ bill before tip included 2 drinks. Our server scolded us when we asked for boxes to take food back to our apartment. "We are not a takeaway restaurant!!!" He was able to do it, but we left feeling like we were in big trouble, and unfortunately would not return here. Pros: Our side dish order was wrong but was quickly corrected. (Also a con because it cost my friend to loose the offer of fresh grated parmesan on her pasta dish. 😕) Food was good Cons: I did not think to ask about the shrimp main dish when I ordered, and it is the entire original shrimp in shell, head to tail. This was a Con for me, especially without a word of it when we are obviously 100% a tourist. It'd have been nice to mention upon order I would have asked for something different. Biggest con for us was being chastised about taking our leftovers. I would still recommend because, besides our server, it was lovely atmosphere and good food! We still tipped well for that!

After an entire day of walking in Amsterdam, I was longing for some good food, and this place pops in front of me. I usually avoid Italian food when I’m abroad, but I was too tired to go on, so I swallowed my food tourist pride and sat for a simple dinner. The ambient was very cozy and quiet, despite the restaurant being basically full. The menu isn’t overly long (a great plus in my book), the wine choices are extensive (another great plus), and the waiters are lightning fast, courteous, smiling and very professional. The food choices seem all to be quite tasty. I can’t judge too accurately, as I only had a pizza, but if that can serve as a measuring stick, I’d say “go there”. The only negative side I can honestly find in my experience has been the price (20€ for simple pizza is truly a ripoff), but I’ll probably be back anyway, given how nice the place and, more importantly, the people, were.

I have been going to casa di david for years and was extremely positive until yesterday (26-08-2025)... I had the worst experience and service I have ever had!!! I am a coeliac and finding good restaurants can be challenging. When we had dinner yesterday our waiter seemed to be in a bit of a mood from the start, but not everyone can always be happy (so no worries about that). When we ordered I specifically asked for gluten free pasta (twice!), and without repeating the order he walked off. When we received our food I asked "This is gluten free right?" to which his answer was "No." I then replied with "I asked for gluten free pasta" and I got the following response "No, you did not. I would have remembered. I'm assuming you cannot eat this now? It will take really long now, so you must wait" I explained that I can't eat it and my friend also had to tell the waiter that I did indeed ask twice for gluten-free pasta. Without apologising for the mistake or anything, he grabbed our plates and let out a clearly irritated sigh. When we received our food again it was put on the table without any care and never were asked if we wanted cheese. When another waiter came to ask us and we said "yes please", it took so long to come (while it was not that busy and we could literally see them standing and chatting) that we had to start eating. I am absolutely appalled by the service we got. Will not be going back again!

Great authentic Italian food in a nice atmosphere

For the record: we had a great, tasty meal. But... it's also about the experience. And that was disappointing. We had eaten here before, on the first floor, overlooking the canal. We made a reservation several days in advance (for 4 people) with a request for a table by the canal on the first floor. "No, we don't accept table requests." Upon arrival on the day in question (the time was 6:00 PM, so it was still quiet), there was no window seat on the first floor. Two people were eating at a table for 4. Right next to it were two separate tables, each with some space between them, for two people. We requested that the tables be pushed together. The response: "No, we won't do that." Ultimately, we settled for a table crammed into a corner. On one side, there was limited space for two people from our group. The service was impersonal and not very attentive. The focus was on speed (apparently to achieve high turnover). So, in conclusion: the food was good, the rest was significantly less so. Will we come back? I highly doubt it!

A rather hopeless situation. The lasagna had to be returned because it wasn't warm, and even after the second attempt, it still wasn't warm. The pizza was on the table within 5 minutes. Cold ingredients and a soft crust. All in all, the staff didn't seem very enthusiastic. Hopeless

El restaurante es ruidoso y la decoración es un poco anticuada, pero la comida es por eso que uno va a Casa di David. La comida es excelente. Las porciones son enormes. Comimos pasta, pizza, ensalada, pescado. Cada plato estaba muy bien preparado y delicioso. El personal es amable y eficiente. Están dispuestos a hacer recomendaciones sobre platos. Realmente disfrutamos de nuestra comida!

Was expecting above average food and experience based on other reviews. Food was just average and nothing memorable. What was memorable was the condescending and unhelpful attitude of the waiter. Couldn't really tell too much about the atmosphere as we didn't get past our table right at the front door. There were a few tables outside but no one was being served out there which felt odd as all the other restaurants we walked past had full patios. This is probably the overflow restaurant when one can't get into the others.

waiter was sloppy. splashed red wine on the table and us each time he poured. atmosphere was nice. we sat upstairs. they accommodated our large group of 8 and even took us early. When it came time to pay, they wouldn't split the bill - we asked for one bill split 4 equal ways (not individual bills) - they wouldn't split because "it was extra work for them". All other restaurants in Amsterdam we went to didn't have a problem with it. Food was just OK. Drinks not so great. We should have just gone back to Verona Restaurante.
