We stumbled upon this place the other night and was able to get a table with our friends. Not only is it fun to watch them make the pizzas, our service Alex was terrific. She was friendly, attentive and so accommodating. Mostly everyone in our group had pizza and I tried the Spaghetti with clams. Everything was outstanding. So good, that my husband and I plan to come back tomorrow night, as it will be our last night in Amsterdam.

We walked in at the busiest time and they still say us! We had such an amazing meal and our waitress Alex completely made the night — she was so kind and attentive and answered our many questions about the wine list and food options. Thanks!! My brother wants to add it was the best beef carpaccio and dining experience in months

On vacation in Amsterdam, we chose Casa di David. Excellent food and service, we had a great time. Highly recommended.

We came a family of 5, at evening,the restaurant was not full We ordered 1 bruschetta for starters and 5 dishes of pasta. 2 of them were kids pasta We got the starter after few minutes and then waited more than 45 mins for the pasta. No one approached us or update us , kids got crazy Also there is no AC and it was really hot in there

I am really not sure why my hotel recommended this restaurant. The service and food was at best not good. The pizza was so greasy without much flavor. Truffle pasta tasteless. Waiter never came around to ask how food was. Would never recommend.

Black truffle ravioli was amazing. The waitress made sure we got a front table overlooking the canal as soon as one opened up. Great place.

The waiters are very rude. I went 3 times. All the waiters were arrogant and rude. The food is also quite ordinary.

The host was really nice, in a place so crowded with so many people coming in and out I was happy he made time for me as I waited for my table. It was less than an hour to get in (no reservation 1 person), so I was lucky. The food however was underwhelming — I ordered the cacio e pepe and it turned out it was a bechamel white sauce type, nothing like what I had in Rome. The Parmesan cheese was disappointing also, it was thinly grated and not fresh. No surprise it was all Americans eating there and not one Italian in sight! A lot of hype around this restaurant and little substance.

Really good restaurant, we had salmon and pasta, it was very, very tasty. Excellent service, it wasn't too busy..

We were warmly welcomed and escorted to our seats upstairs. The restaurant feels authentic and has a lovely atmosphere. The service was professional and friendly, with an eye for detail. The dishes were delicious. After dining here again after several years, there is still nothing to complain about. We were with a large group, but that was not an issue. I think many of the party will come back again; I certainly will!

We come to Casa di David every time we’re in Amsterdam, and it never disappoints. It’s become a special tradition for me and my brother. The food is consistently amazing with great quality and flavor. The atmosphere is warm and lively, and the service is always friendly and attentive.

It’s genuinely surprising how this place manages to hold a rating above average. The interior was extremely crowded and poorly ventilated, making the overall experience quite uncomfortable. Service was noticeably slow — well beyond what would be considered acceptable for a restaurant of this level. As for the food, it was largely disappointing. . What stood out even more was the lack of basic service awareness: despite sending the dish back and placing an additional order, the staff didn’t even bother to ask what the issue was. No follow-up, no concern. It feels like a place that relies heavily on tourist traffic and, as a result, has stopped caring about both quality and service. Unfortunately, that shows.

For years, this has been a well-known Italian restaurant in the city center. We have been coming here for years; the quality of the food is high and consistent, and the atmosphere is always good. It had been a while since we had eaten here, so we went for a delicious Italian meal on Saturday evening before enjoying a good movie at the cinema. The restaurant is always busy, or rather, packed. Tables are placed very close together, making it a bit noisy. The tables themselves are also very small, which makes it a bit cramped. The best seats are upstairs by the window. Starters are tasty and the right size. Be sure to book the antipasto mix as a starter. The pizzas are also very tasty, as are the pastas. Moreover, you will find the ultimate tiramisu here. Delicious! The service is usually friendly. They do not always speak Dutch and English very well. Sometimes this comes across as curt. It is also annoying that they do not serve all dishes at once; consequently, the bruschetta had already been placed on the table, while our other guests only received the antipasto mix 10 minutes later, which is certainly annoying. Furthermore, our waiter often forgot to set the table with new cutlery and napkins. We didn't make a fuss about it, and it wasn't, but for a "luxury" Italian restaurant, that really shouldn't happen. In short, a delicious Italian restaurant in the city center of Amsterdam, definitely worth a visit!

My boyfriend and I had a delicious meal here! We hadn't made a reservation, but that wasn't a problem! We were welcomed very warmly and were able to order our food very quickly. And wow, the food here is amazing! Neither of us had such a delicious meal in ages. The atmosphere is very cozy and authentic, and the service was a real 10! Even for a busy Friday night!

If you’re an American craving sub par Italian food, you’ll find yourself at home at Casa di David. From the server calling me “signore” to the scroll menus and the undercooked-over-seasoned pasta, each passing minute I spent in Casa di David felt like I was plunging further into Dante’s Inferno.

If the expectation is an italo-american restaurant then yeah, you got it, otherwise wouldn’t recommend: too much garlic, oil and parsley without any actual reason. Would not come back.

I have been several times in this place and the food and service always was great, but today, with a reservation, and after 30 min waiting outside we have decided to leave, it’s very annoying to have a reservation at one time and after 30 min be unable to enter in the restaurant and not having more answer that the restaurant was full … overbooking in a restaurant a Saturday night…. I probably will not go again

Pizza was okay, service was great, but the 7 euros for water was a huge surprise on the bill.

This was our last day in the Netherlands, and we chose this restaurant for a birthday dinner because we had seen recommendations saying the atmosphere was great. We made a reservation in advance with high expectations, but the experience was extremely disappointing. First, we arrived right when the restaurant opened at 5pm and were the first customers. We are Chinese, and we asked to sit at a four-person table by the window but were told we could only sit at a table for two. We immediately agreed and changed our seats. However, about 20 minutes later, another couple came in (they seemed to be from the Middle East) and were directly seated at a four-person table by the window. The staff said nothing and even warmly welcomed them, offering menus and making small talk. This felt very unfair and inconsistent, and honestly made us question whether we were treated differently. Secondly, and most frustratingly, my friend chose this place specifically to celebrate her birthday. On the way to the restroom, there is a very steep staircase. She fell badly while going down. The noise was quite noticeable, yet not a single staff member came to help or check on her. One of them only glanced at her briefly. It wasn’t until she came back upstairs that a male staff member casually asked, “Are you ok?” while leaning on the counter. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing, especially for a special occasion.

The food was very good. However, the service and the ambiance were outstanding; we were able to sit on the upper floor right by the window overlooking the canal.

It's definitely not as good as it's made out to be, just an ordinary place. I didn't like the food... I definitely wouldn't recommend it.

Unfortunately as many others have had the same experience, our server was quite lax in her care and attention. The front of house lead gentleman was nice enough but our server was completely inattentive to our table. One she took our order she waited far too long to put in our pizza order. Our appetizer came out and we finished it about ten minutes before I saw her look in our direction and you could tell she had forgotten to put the pizza orders in as the pizza chef was doing nothing for about ten minutes before she walked to the computer and he made ours. After getting our food we it was all we could do to get her back to the table for more water. Then we were done eating for another ten to fifteen minutes before I had to grab the floor manager or whatever he was to get our pizza boxed to go and still had to wave her down for the check. The pizza was decent. Good, not great. Would not recommend.

Fantastically delicious Italian food. We tried both the pizzas from the stone oven - one with spicy salami, one with truffle/olive oil and one with salami/Italian ham - as well as the fresh pastas with bolognese made from scratch and one with everything good from the sea. It all tasted fantastic and authentic. The waiters are sweet and smiling. The waiting time is short. Really good experience.

Terrible experience. They lost power in the kitchen (on that one they allowed us to change to pizza) and the toilets were not working either (which they did not inform us, despite being with little children). They continued to allow clients in, despite that under the law in Amsterdam a full restaurant needs to have a working toilet for customers

We sat near the pizza oven and ordered salad, soup and a pizza. The server asked us if they want to bring the salad first, soup and then the pizza but after the salad we had to wait a while before any food came. The pizza came after and when we said "oh we ordered soup too" the server was like "The pizza comes from here (pointing at the oven) and the soup from downstairs, I cant bring both at the same time" and he turned around and just left. The servers in general were not friendly and acted rude to us until we paid. All we did was act nice regardless of their rudeness. The food was also below average at best. The salad was flavorless, the soup was decent and the pizza was soggy and cold. Hygiene is also not great, the pizza guy did not wash his hands at all, after touching a bunch of random things and theres a cat running around the restaurant! Not going to come here again!

The food was very good, the dishes were well-served and very tasty. The service was good, but when we arrived, I don't know if it was a shift change or an unusual day, but they seemed a little disorganized. We had a reservation, and the team downstairs directed us to the floor above. After that, no one attended to us, and we didn't know if we could sit down or if we had to wait. In short, after waiting and no one attending to us, we decided to sit anywhere. There was only one person serving, and later more people came upstairs to help. In short, standard AMS price, very good food, but confusing service.

Probably the best Italian restaurant in Amsterdam! Located in an old canal house, they offer excellent Italian food, from pizzas to pastas, good wines and great staff. After so many years in Amsterdam, they haven't lost nor quality nor the Italian atmosphere.

A safe choice for italian food in Amsterdam. They became a bit pricier lately but at least they didn't cut on the quality, portions or service.

Unfortunately this restaurant took a bad turn somewhere along the way. This was one of the places I used to go to a lot and used to recommend. The pasta and atmosphere were still good but unfortunately the staff, wait time, pizza and tiramisu weren’t. I’m not sure what happend tbh. I would recommend taking your business somewhere else until they improve… Must have been overhyped on tiktok or something and then they must have cut cost since there will be no returning customers anyway… Zonde maar is wat het is, genoeg betere Italiaanse restaurants.

While the atmosphere is great, the service and food is disappointing. Good pasta but not so great pizza, not really an Italian pizza. The Tiramisu was no real Tiramisu. Even the Albert Heijn one is better and that one isn’t good at all..

The food was good. The portions were generous, and one of the waitresses spoke Spanish, so it wasn't difficult to communicate. The price was reasonable for Amsterdam.

Awful experience at the door. Stupidly, we hadn't made a reservation. The three of us (two adults and a child) arrived and waited at the door for over fifteen minutes. Everyone else was seated before us, and we couldn't get in until an hour later. And there was no pizza for us... they were still trying to get our teeth cleaned. It's possible they're full, or they don't care for children... But if they do, tell them sooner... It's a real shame because I had truly positive memories. I went here often in my youth, and because of the consistent quality, I've kept coming back over the years. I wanted to pass that on to my child. Now I'm left with a terrible memory.

Ordered food here last weekend. It was so so so bad. We literally had to throw the focaccias with tuna away because they were so tasteless. Next to it we ordered pizza. €8 for a tiny slice is outrageous and also tasted horribly. I wish I had more positive feedback but for the prices they charge, please be warned.

Unfortunately, my experience wasn’t great. The staff were quite rude and the service was disappointing, which really affected the overall visit. The only positive was the pizza it tasted good.

Fabulous location right on the canals in the '9s'. Food was delicious, very good! The only thing I would say is that you can tell that it is a tourist place as the waiters have zero interest in making it a memorable meal. They could do even better by showing interest in guests and having a special 'spark' to make it even more special. Ask for table on 2nd floor with canal view. Very cute.

Everyone was so friendly from the moment we walked through the door to our server Mario and even the bartenders who delivered my well-deserved and delicious martini. If you're in Amsterdam, please eat here. It was recommended to us by a local and I can see why. It is well worth it!

Lovely restaurant, but food was average and the staff seemed grumpy.

Quality is going down in this place. Have been many times, but service quality isn't what it used to be.

I had dinner there on the 18th and 19th, and both nights were excellent. I'd been there last year and a few years ago as well. The food is superb, perhaps a bit pricey, but reasonable for Amsterdam. The problem is that it's so crowded that arriving and getting a table has been rather unpleasant these last two nights. We all had reservations and arrived on time, but the chaos at the door was immense. But I'll be back.

Fantastic ambience and excellent service! You are welcomed with open arms. The bartender Gabor knows a lot about the perfect wine for the perfect dinner. Would recommend the Mezzi rigatoni among all the other delicious choices

We were left waiting at the entrance for at least 5 minutes waiting to be seated and in that time although staff were near us we were not even acknowledged. We asked for seating next to each other and were told that wasn't possible but the two tables that would have accommodated that were free all evening. My starter was warm, not hot and the pizza was not the best. Meatballs were bland. At the end of the evening after receiving the bill it took 10 minutes for someone to take payment. Overall a disappointing experience and we will not be returning.

I would rate 6 stars across the board if I could. On our trip there was one thing I was looking for and it was amazing Italian food. Not touristy Italian. Casa di David was the best Italian ive had so far. Absolutely delicious. Our waiter was incredible and patient and very attentive. I was with my husband and our 2 friends and everyone enjoyed their meal. I will be back one day!

We had 2 meals at Casa di David during our short stay in Amsterdam - returning as the 1st was so good & the 2nd didn’t disappoint. Prompt friendly service even on a Friday night when very busy. Really delicious food on both occasion. Definitely recommend booking in advance.
