Chipsy King Damstraat 8 in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

Ordered some french fries with gouda as a topping (10€)I checked my Dutch bank account (ING), and it says 20€. At first, I thought it might be a bank display issue, but after that, I realised I was scammed. 2 Arabs were the ones that served me; please avoid this place!!

I ordered a fries oorlog, a well-known Dutch fries specialty. To my surprise, I had to explain to the staff member that it should be served with mayonnaise, satay sauce, and chopped onions. The fries were dry and tasteless, the satay sauce was watery and slightly sour (it even tasted as if it might have been out of date), and they used onion rings instead of chopped onions. It honestly felt like they had no understanding of the dish they were trying to sell. A horrible imitation of a Dutch classic.

Not a good place to eat. I was there recently and ordered fries with mayo and chicken nuggets. There was a hair in the fries with mayo. I have truly never experienced this before. There are two women working in the shop, and neither of them covers their hair with a special hair cap or ties it back in such a way that hair cannot easily fall into the food. I consider this a real no-go for me. Upon entering, it also smelled like old frying oil. The fries were not special at all. The amount of mayonnaise was excessive, which made eating difficult. In short, not recommended. The owner of this eatery needs to do more about hygiene. Both the staff and the use of oil could and should be better. Additionally, perhaps it would be a good idea to test your own food or have it tested by people who know how things should taste?

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE FOOD!!!!! THE WRAP WAS SOGGY AND SO SOUR. I don’t know how long the meat has been lying there but it was so wet and sour like it was expired. It’s so over priced for what it’s worth plus the portion of fries were so minuscule. I have no photos to show cause I threw it after two bites of the wrap. I’d honestly stay away.

I would not even advise for fries... I went for fries, they were not good with the strange taste of the oil. The oil on the fryer looked dark like coal wich explain the strange taste. Then the price 8 euros! You can find way better around for cheaper.

Worst fries ever. They tasted old and seemed to have been deep-fried in heavily used oil, the color was somewhere between dark brown and black. Terrible taste, and the mayonnaise tasted outdated too. Definitely go somewhere else.

We ordered potatoes with cheese and the sauce was sour... Awful! For typical Amsterdam potatoes, you're better off going to other places, and they're cheaper too.

Much respect to the Chipsy King, that guy was slinging fries like a beast. It gets pretty busy but it’s the perfect spot for a snack.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and very generous (I saw them put more potatoes than would fit in the cone). The potatoes were delicious; we ordered a large cone with truffle sauce (amazing, smooth without overpowering the potato flavor), and they even added Parmesan cheese on top even though I'd only paid for the sauce. The ingredients were clearly homemade and cooked perfectly. I didn't order the kebab, but I took a picture of the meat because it looked incredible!

I ate potatoes with cheese from his place, but unfortunately I was sick for a week with diarrhea from the food. I got food poisoning. I will never come back to that place again.

Disgusting! Dude handles food with the same gloves that he handles money, stove, dirty dishes and .. food. Fries are dry and tasteless. Chicken burger is a patty that was frozen. If you wanna have food poisoning then come here. Prices also crazy

The fries were not tasty at all, and I actually saw that the doner wasn’t freshly made but just reheated, which was very disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place—it really spoils the impression of the city.

We ordered doner kebab. They did not put anyyyything in that but lettuce. The taste of garlic was terrible. They have written that it is halal meat, but it doesn’t taste like halal at all !!!! It is in a really poor quality of meat. We asked for refund, they totally refused and ignored us. I am gonna give 0 out of 10 for their customer service as they were so rude to us. Not recommended at all !!!! I am already feeling sick just with eating 2 bites of that aweful doner.

I really liked it. I ordered a rolled kebab (not sure what it’s called on their menu) without fries, and the gentleman was so kind that he gave us some fries for free. We went there before visiting the Red Light District, and we were just looking for a place to eat — honestly, it did not disappoint at all

Do not let these people ruin your day/trip/meal. Just skip them. The owner was raciest and rude to us. The food wasn’t prepared well. While I was waiting for my order people came back to complain. I shouldn’t have eaten here.

This fried chicken 🍗 is the best in Holland. It has a delicious spiciness, is super crispy, and is delicious. The chicken burgers are also excellent. We ate this chicken for three days straight.

Me and my partner’ve been looking for some good kebab in the city. The shop looks pretty much nice from the outside and so as pictures on their promotion wallpaper… we ordered two kebabs in wrap with everything (as the guy asked us if we wish to put everything in… not sure what he meant as in the kebab was only little bit of meat and lettuce so can’t imagine to skip any of this and get probably just the wrap … we’ve been obviously thinking it will be full of vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber, onion and so on like proper kebab as the price was quite high, definitely for what we got. Also we told the guy during the preparing of kebabs that we want tomatoes etc and he said yes all will be there and at the end there was almost nothing, so communication is on zero level too. Pictures of food are totally different than what you will get there. We won’t never ever come back there for food maybe if it is the last place for food in the world …

A group of four of us had just arrived in Amsterdam that day, exhausted and hungry, and this place was our first stop for food, but the interaction we had there was honestly awful and left us feeling completely unwelcome and disrespected. We walked up to the counter and politely asked the man behind it whether the meat was lamb or beef; he just stared at us in silence for several seconds, then finally muttered that it was camel meat and immediately turned his back and walked away, offering no explanation, no help, and no chance to even ask a follow-up question. The whole thing was over in barely 10-20 seconds, but it was enough to kill any appetite we had and make us feel like we were a problem instead of customers who had just walked in off a long journey hoping for a decent meal. There was absolutely zero basic courtesy, zero effort to engage, and it genuinely felt like we were being dismissed for no reason, which is the last thing you expect when you're new in a city and just trying to eat. If the owner reads this, please understand how bad this looks for your business: no one should be treated this way, and if this person is actually the owner himself, that makes it even worse and is a strong reason for others to stay far away from this place. +

Ordered food. Paid for it. Asked for no sauce. To which I was then given fries with sauce. Asked for a Replacement to which I was given back my money without even speaking to me and asked to leave and not come back. Extremely rude person serving. Would advise to stay away.

Ordered 3 chicken durums, the chicken meat is half cooked with blood . Uneatable , we throw them to the trashbin. Not going there again.

I bought wrap + fries for €14, also paid €3 for sauces which I didn’t see on top fries and thought it would be inside the wrap. It was not (dishonesty), the wrap was not very fresh and oil used for fries was bit different in taste. I went back to him saying that this wrap is not fresh. His behaviour was not good and he gave me another wrap with very less sauce. This me believe the previous one was literally not FRESH.

For sure this is not real dutch fries. I Don't know what it is, but not even close to dutch fries.

When you ask if your being served fries that have been made fresh, response is a clear lie cus all they do is pick out fries cooked a while ago. In addition to guy running this place being oddly homophobic, he also went on a long rant about the red light district and that my boyfriend would cheat on me with one of the women there. Strange vibes and views especially considering his location, and we left without even getting our chips after he started being homophobic about men

Hair in the food very bad experience to never repeat

Today I got a döner box for the first time, and really... what a disaster. The staff threw in large raw onions as if it were free - half the box was just onions. Everything tasted weird, I couldn't even eat it. I gave the raw onions to the seagulls, who also looked strange at first. And when I started eating the döner, I honestly thought: “Is this meat… or is this human meat?” So dirty, so strange. And then also unfriendly staff. Really, never again. Kk case

Visitamos Chipsy King todos los días. Fuimos parciales a la mezcla de patatas fritas y patatas batatas con ajo aloili. No puedes equivocarte con un clásico. A mis hijos adolescentes les encantó tanto que insistieron en Chipsy King para su cena de cumpleaños! (Celebrado mientras estaba allí.) ¡Y somos amantes de la comida! A potato shop located along a busy street. It's a fast food restaurant. They poured the sauce of my choice onto the potatoes that were overflowing from the paper cup. I heard that French fries are a specialty in Amsterdam, so I happened to come across this shop and stopped by. There was a fancy potato shop right next door that looked even more delicious, but there were several people waiting in line.

We feel cheated, they have charged us more money than what is on the bill, when you ask questions they look at you badly and make you feel uncomfortable. It says that it includes a drink and when you ask for it it tells you to pay more… Not recommended…

Scam. On menu its says kebab is 9,50€ but then you pay 11€. Friendly people selling food are the most scammers.

Awful experience. Men mocked us and while making racist jokes. They were eating food while making ours for us and made us open our own condiment containers. To top is all off a cat lives in the restaurant and the man grabs the cat and with the same gloves returns to making our fries. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. Food was fine, staff behavior was disgusting.

Real slag in terms of taste, appearance, and service. The price indicated on the menu board is not true. The real price is ~16% higher. Sanitation is also questionable in this tray. (Identified by observing staff).

Arrogant and rude staf. Almost got ripped of with payment.My partner got leftovers in his chips portion fired to maximum and a bonus - a small plastic sword toy like you may get sometimes from the kindersurprise eggs. The best was when one of the guys started to scrach dirt form the deep fryer counter directly to the oli. I’ve skipped my portion, it is simply DISGUSTING, DIRTY and not worth a single € cent.

The worst attention of my life. They made fun of us. They did whatever they wanted with the order, they took forever while both shop assistants were laughing and one even came out to look at the ass of one of the group... Average food for the price... but don't go! You have many other sites. They are rude slobs.

First and last time in this place ordered 3 burgers and menu i take only 3 burgers and staff was with me very rude

They rip off tourists for sure. I ordered a 13€ meal and it came to 20,5€. When I questioned how it added up they said 4€ can of soda, which they could have said anything since the prices for drinks weren’t listed. The price for that was high but that’s not the issue. They then proceeded to tell me the sauce on the burger, which I didn’t ask for nor did they ask me if I wanted, was always an extra charge. Which is never mentioned on the menu anywhere. Finally, when I said no sauce please, he showed me the price of 18,5€ but when I checked my CC statement he charged me 20,5€ anyway. That’s actually just unethical business! Also the food was very mid. It is what it is but just a tip, don’t waste your time here!

No complaints about the quality of the fries. But what terrible staff. Arrogant, completely uninterested in what they are doing. I almost used the word rude. There are many other places for tasty fries, where you will at least be treated normally and with a little respect.

We went to them just yesterday and it was a terrible experience! We requested two menus (kebab piadina + chips), at the price of €14.50 each (drink not included - we paid €3.50 each for a bottle of less than half a liter of coke. We were given two piadinas with cold meat and a single portion of chips (according to them to be divided into two), also making us pay for the sauces, with a presumptuous and persuasive attitude to say the least; obviously we also requested the second portion, as per the menu. Not recommended, it is a city scam, as well as dishonest people.

Not sure whats the deal but, I felt scammed coming to this place compared to the other restaurants that were very welcoming to visitors... we ordered their chicken doner, paid full price, and literally the wraps was filled with Lettuce n onions with a hint of bland chicken.. not cool!!

I ordered wrap + fries with garlic sauce, it shows 14.5 eur +1.5 eur (sauce) on the menu. But back in night, the bank app shows that they charged me 17.5 eur??? It seems like they charged sauce price 2 times, 1 in wrap and 1 more on fries ? This is ridiculous! And the food wasn’t worth this price.

I ordered a small fries+sauce 8.75. They charged 2 euros more for no reason. It didn't feel like a mistake as I tried to ask and he said it's the sauce. Maybe they do it often, who knows. But I won't go there again, just in case:) the fries were average

Ikke nogen særlig god oplevelse med pommes frites fra dette sted. Dressingen smager fed, sød og billig. Til gengæld er der rigeligt af den! Vælg hellere et af de mange andre steder i Amsterdam som serverer ægte håndskårne pommes frites med dressing af en bedre kvalitet.

The worst kebab we ever ate and it’s very over-priced. Small portions and they gave us meat not from the spinner but rather from a side storage. It’s a tourist trap not even worth 2 euro.

I got the sweet potato fries because I love them! It was incredible to find them for a walk and I only went there for those... but... unfortunately... Soggy and oily on the outside and raw on the inside... plus terribly expensive in relation to the quality... I'm sorry to say it, but I really don't recommend them.

Rude staff. I walked in and ordered a large. Guy behind the counter got pissy and said in an extreme condescending tone “ and how are you today?”. Sure, because that’s why I walked in- to find out how your day in your dead end job was going chief. Frites were soggy also.

The worst potatoes I have ever eaten, 7 euros for a carton of sweet potatoes that are soft and raw on the inside. Terrible service, very little desire to serve the public and bad faces and little education, not even a simple “hello” I understand that they serve a thousand people a day and more now at Christmas, but if you are not good enough to be in front of the public, change jobs ! I have already tried 3 potato places in Amsterdam and it is without a doubt the worst. I gave the potatoes to a beggar who was begging.
