This was my first time trying stamppot, accompanied by bitterballs, of course. Everything was delicious. I chose the stamppot with meatballs and tried the one with sausage (which was actually a type of frankfurter), and I liked both. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the location is excellent. I'd love to go back ❣️

The worst dinner I had in Amsterdam

I came from Edinburgh. I had the homemade tart that Levon recommended. It was wonderful. Great price and quality.

The best place in Amsterdam if you want to try the tasty Dutch specialities with fresh ingredients and a touch of elegance and lightness in the preparation. They offer a wide variety of Stamppot (potatoes and vegetables served with meat, meatballs or sausage) and amazing starters like the bitterballen (fried meatballs with mustard) and soups. Delicious desserts (poffertjes) and a fine selection of beers and wines will complete your meal. This place is not expensive: for a starter, a main courses and a beer you will pay about 32 euros.

At the risk of setting myself apart from the other reviews, we found nothing exceptional, delicious, or pleasant in this restaurant. It's a factory restaurant that sells at high speed. Overcrowded even outside of meal times. Did we choose the wrong dishes? Possibly, but our croquettes were bland and too mushy in the mouth. A plus: the low prices.

Good restaurant with typical Dutch food

Traditional Dutch food that tastes great. I loved the food and the beer is wonderful.

The atmosphere in the store is comfortable. The music is nice. The steak tastes good. The salmon is highly recommended. The staff is very friendly.

Decent food but the wait staff was less than interested in taking care of us. Long time before initial drink order. Even longer to get our food. I ordered a soup and, after everyone else’s food was delivered, I had to remind them about my soup. Three people had a desert course included with their meal but they came super late and not at the same time.

Wonderful place to have lunch. The servers spoke English well and we're very friendly. And the food was so good and the meat juicy.

We were after traditional Dutch food and we were quite pleased with the offerings here. We had three different stampot and enjoyed all of them. The appeltaart was fine but not stellar. I was a bit surprised that my server didn’t speak Dutch, but we all got on fine in English.

This is not food, this is a godly revelation. I seriously recommend everyone to go and eat here.

Compelling menu and excellent service

Is this Rotterdammer going to write something positive about 020? Yes indeed! In this place you can just walk to the toilet. Gerse guests too. Great snack satay and hutspot, good cup of coffee. If you have to be in 020, then you can sit here.

Before leaving the Netherlands, I stopped by a Dutch restaurant because I thought I had to try Dutch food at least once. There weren't many Dutch restaurants in Amsterdam, so I found it without much difficulty. I'm not sure if many locals visit, but judging from the atmosphere, it didn't feel like a tourist restaurant. There were a steady stream of walk-ins and it seemed like a restaurant that was doing pretty well. The menu was divided into appetizers, main dishes, and desserts, and each section had about five or six items. The price range seemed reasonable, so I ordered one appetizer and one main dish, and drank beer. First, I ordered bitterballen as an appetizer, which is a Dutch croquette made with potatoes and meat. It was smaller than arancini, and there were six of them on a plate, and they were served with mustard sauce. When I cut it in half and checked the inside, I could feel the texture of mashed potatoes because the ratio of potatoes to meat was higher. The outside was rough because the breadcrumbs were sharp, so it was rough and hard rather than crispy. The taste was okay, but since it was fried, I got sick of it little by little as I ate it. Since the ingredients inside were heavy, it would have been better if the batter was thin and crispy, and the mustard sauce cut through the greasiness, so I kept adding it. I ordered the main dish, and since it looked exactly like a British cottage pie, I could taste it. As expected, my hunch was right, and to be honest, I don't know what the difference is between this and a cottage pie. It was a dish with soft beef like stew piled on top of mashed potatoes and generously poured with gravy sauce, but it tasted really simple. I couldn't taste any savory flavor, and it was just salty, savory, and heavy. Unlike ragu, which has a deep flavor even if it's heavy, the cottage pie and the stamp pot were just very filling. The service was great, but I was disappointed with the Dutch food.

The food was tasty, but unfortunately, it wasn't very well presented. The service was friendly and quick. Prices were normal for the area. The interior design wasn't very appropriate. It was more of a tourist restaurant with typical Dutch food.

We went to this one because there was too much of a line where we wanted to go. The waitresses weren't very friendly. The croquettes aren't worth the price. The other two dishes aren't bad.

We were in this restaurant - very disappointed. The food was tasteless, the pork had a pronounced unpleasant smell. The place was too noisy. The owner was drunk and quarreled with customers. We will not return and do not recommend it to others.

Very tasty home-style food. Mashed potatoes are one of the mainstays of this establishment. They have three types of them - I recommend trying them. Also in the assortment, Solomon fillet with a tender crust and juicy inside, sausages, beef tenderloin and fresh beer on tap, much, much more.. And the most important thing is the cozy atmosphere. Prices: Main dishes from €20 to €30.

This could have been 5 stars, but I have a reason for "only" 4. We wanted Dutch food and we found it (see the pic with the "Hutspot met een Sukadel"), we had a very nice, friendly & dedicated waiter (a guy from Madrid) looking after our table, a real gentleman, so thank you. However, the place was incredibly busy, full actually, and that's OK, but we wonder if the space is big enough for all those customers? There is not much space, and privacy, between tables, so that's the reason for the missing star. Still a good experience though.

Excellent food and hospitality! We had the shrimp croquettes, beef stamppot and apple pie. All dishes were very well presented and delicious. All employees provided the best service we have encountered during our Amsterdam sit down dining experiences.

Cozy and yummy food! Get the stamppot, pea soup and bitterball

We decided to try this historic place given the high number of reviews. Honestly we were pleasantly surprised even though we expected a different flavor from the meatball, as we imagined it fried. We still recommend it especially for trying the braised meat.

Avoid at all costs – absolutely shocking experience Came here with a few mates expecting a decent meal – massive mistake. First off, the food was honestly dreadful. What we got wasn’t even what we ordered, and when we pointed it out, the staff just shrugged it off. Then it got properly dodgy. While we were trying to eat, there was some kind of fight going on upstairs – loads of banging and shouting. Felt really unsafe. And to top it all off, a bloke at another table got hit by something that fell off the bathroom wall. He was bleeding – no joke. When people tried to get help, the staff and even the owner were outright rude and refused to take any responsibility. No apology, no concern – just a terrible attitude. Genuinely one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Filthy, chaotic, and the staff were a disgrace. Seriously, avoid this place.

I love writing reviews to help other travelers and leave some ideas and I too sometimes rely on reviews. So I did for the authentic Dutch dinner at De Baluwe Hollander. In the center of Amsterdam there are very few restaurants and clubs that offer Dutch cuisine, fortunately in the street of our neighborhood we could find 3. On the last evening we had dinner in this place, waiting with a little patience for 20 minutes to have a free table. We ate very well and were equally well received with kindness and courtesy. We opted for 16 pieces of local cheese, the minced meat rolls and the herring with cucumber and onion. Beer, water and typical Dutch dessert. Spending in 3 of 56.40 euros. Excellent quality/price ratio.

Recently ate here with foreigners who wanted to eat Dutch food. Friendly staff, but the food is no more than reasonable.

A small establishment, a lot of people, not very clean (remnants of food under the tables) The food is delicious, we ordered fish. Service. The girls seem to be nice, but every time you call, they approach with such a look that they are doing you a favor, but the guy was attentive, we thank him. A quiet Dutch place for lunch/dinner. I made the reservation through Google and arrived half an hour late due to my mistake. I told them what happened, and they kindly offered us one of the tables. The room staff was very efficient and helped us choose the typical dishes, we were delighted.

Small cozy resto that serves great Dutch food. We came in with no expectation but the food turned out great, very friendly staff as well. The tomato soup was my personal favorite though, I finished it clean and clear 😅 Recommend to make reservation in advance especially during peak hours

Blend food. We had the stampots with the tender beef another with meat ball. The former was so full of tendons and meat was so tough. Meatball was edible. Wouldn’t recommend this place.

Great place to get traditional Dutch food! We stumbled on this place in a happy accident! I usually plan my restaurants while traveling ahead, but I had wanted to try Dutch food this day, so we found it via google and happened to be right down the street. It has a quiet and dark exterior which creates a relaxing almost homey atmosphere. For drinks we I had a glass of wine and my husband had a beer. We ordered the Stampot with sausage and the Herring to split. The service was polite and efficient and they were very cognizant and accommodating for my nut allergy. Even with a large party of 10 the service was still quick and the food quality was great! This would be a smart pick if you are traveling and want a traditional Dutch meal experience without touristy prices or crowds.

Had a great dinner ordered the pea soup and stamppot hutspot (carrot and beef) both were excellent very flavorful. Quick service and friendly staff.

Ristorante situato nella zona dei musei, locale molto piccolo, ma con rotazione veloce dei tavoli. Il personale è molto gentile e simpatico, i piatti sono della tradizione olandese, gustosi e abbondanti: io ho preso un salmone cotto benissimo mentre mio marito ha mangiato un filetto di maiale più che discreto. Ottima la birra alla spina, consigliata la prenotazione se non volete aspettare.

Debido a una fiesta nacional holandesa (Día de Reyes) perdió nuestro tiempo de reserva por 1/2 hora. Mientras teníamos que esperar, estábamos trabajando en una noche increíblemente ocupada. La espera valió la pena ya que la comida era excelente y nuestra camarera era de primera categoría para arrancar. Tenía la esperanza de un desierto “holandés” pero estaban demasiado llenos! El Bitterballen y Stampot son platos tradicionales holandeses y se hicieron bien aquí. Bravo!

First of all, we would like to highlight Mikel's attention, he was very attentive to us and helped us choose the dishes. It is a perfect place to try typical Dutch food. We ordered 2 stamppots, bitteballen (an assortment of croquettes as a starter) and the apple pie. All very rich, but somewhat expensive. The place was very noisy and it took them a long time to serve us.

Looked forward to dining here given the reviews. We rearranged our schedule to make a reservation that was available. A lot of effort for an experience I wish I could have avoided: - the host was quite rude with our first encounter. We felt that we were inconveniencing her when we asked for a table by showing her the reservation. It was like she was doing us a favor by allowing us to sit at a table. She pointed to two tables and said thats it. Either of these two. -We chose one but was very uncomfortable given tone and manner. Looking back at the experience we should have just left at this point. -Soon after we were seated, another couple arrive and was offered a larger window seat that was not provided as an option for us. No explanation to us as to why it wasn’t an option for us and I am hesitant to interpret her action here. -Half of the restaurant seems to be in the ‘lobby’. The host area is in the middle of the restaurant and groups of people come in seeking out a table to be turned away if they do not have a reservation. So, there is a continuing influx of people coming in and going out of the restaurant the whole time youre eating right next to them. Not conducive to a relaxing meal (at least for us). -the food was fine, but having eaten at 4 other dutch-centric restaurants nothing was particularly all that outstanding to warrant anyone to go out of their way to come here. Just the facts of our experience for you to decide if it’s worth your effort to ‘snag’ a reservation.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. I went alone on a busy Friday night, but they let me sit outside, and sat me fairly quickly (with no reservation ) for how how busy they were. The stamppot with the endive and meatball was excellent, such a hearty and satisfying dinner. I really thought I was in someone's dining room at their house for Sunday dinner. I would definitely come back here, really good and professional staff too.

Very good restaurant, great food

On a Tuesday night, without reservation, need to go at 5pm to get a table.

It's not a bad restaurant and the food was pretty good, although the potatoes could have been better, I don't know if it's because they have a habit of cutting them all like that or because they really only use frozen industrial potatoes. Although the service is not bad, it was not the best either, they were there for the first 10m asking if we had it and when we were clear, we were waiting for a long time with few tables to wait on and serve, until we decided to call them. If you see that the client is looking at the letter, be patient and wait a little and when you see that the letter is closed and on one side of the table he tells you that you can take a note, there is no need for anyone to raise their voice.

We ordered the typical Dutch dish and it was very good: 100% recommended
