We were looking for a typical restaurant and following the advice of our receptionist we were lucky enough to find a table for two free during the week. The advice is to book in advance because it is a very popular place. The place is nice and the service is friendly and fast. The stampoot was very good and obviously there is the possibility of local beer. We would have happily returned the next day to try other dishes such as soups and the moldoot again but unfortunately it was booked to capacity and we were too tired to wait for the second round

Nice dutch food! We had the carrot 🥕 and endive stamppot and both were very nice- but different. If you like tender meat, get the carrot one. As starter we had bitterballs and those were also super, reminded me of Spanish croquettes. Dessert was disappointing. The Vlaflip could have had more fruit. It literally had 1 piece of strawberry. My friend got ice cream with strawberries - which that was fine but nothing too interest. Strong point- get the savoury stuff! Recommended.

The food is simply delicious, with each dish prepared to perfection and full of that special touch that makes you close your eyes and smile. But what really makes the experience unforgettable is Mikel's incredible service. Attentive, friendly and always with the perfect recommendation. Eating here is like receiving a warm Dutch hug. Definitely a place I will return to again and again!

My wife and I were looking for some authentic Dutch cuisine and were recommended this restaurant. It was fantastic. We arrived without a booking at 5pm on a Tuesday on early March. We were given a table no problem. We both chose stomppots. My wife one with smoked sausage and sauerkraut through the mashed potatoes. Mines was with a gigantic meatball (the biggest I've ever seen) and fries bacon bits. Both were delicious, my wife in particular was in food heaven. I wasn't quite there but the dish was really good. If you want dutch cuisine this is a place you should checkout. Not the cheapest, but then again nothing is cheap in this city. Highly recommended.

I stopped by a Dutch restaurant because I thought I had to try Dutch food before leaving the Netherlands. There weren't as many Dutch restaurants in Amsterdam as I thought, so I found it without much difficulty. I don't know if many locals visit, but judging from the atmosphere, it didn't feel like a tourist restaurant. There were also a steady stream of walk-in customers, and it seemed like a place that was doing quite well. The menu was divided into appetizers, main dishes, and desserts, and there were about five or six items each. The price range seemed reasonable, so I ordered one appetizer and one main dish, and drank beer. First, I ordered bitterballen as an appetizer, which is a Dutch croquette made with potatoes and meat. It was smaller than arancini, and there were six of them, and they were served with mustard sauce. I cut it in half and checked the inside, and it had a texture like mashed potatoes because the ratio of potatoes to meat was higher. The outside was hard rather than crispy because the breadcrumbs were rough. The taste was okay, but since it was fried, I got tired of it the more I ate. Since the filling was heavy, it would have been better if the batter had been crispy, and the mustard sauce cut through the greasiness, so I kept adding it. I ordered a stampot as the main dish, and since it looked exactly like a British cottage pie, I could taste it. My hunch was right, and to be honest, I don't know what the difference is between it and a cottage pie. It's a dish with soft beef like steamed meat piled on mashed potatoes and gravy sauce poured on it, but it tasted really simple. I couldn't taste any savory flavor, and it was just salty, savory, and heavy. Unlike ragu, which adds a deep flavor even if it's heavy, cottage pie and stampot are all about high satiety. The service was great, but Dutch food was not

I can say very little about the food since I only tasted the starter (cheese, average) given that while waiting endlessly for the main courses to arrive, a mouse passed by... for the first moment I didn't do anything (despite my great fear of mice) but the second time I was asked to change places and I accepted. after 10 minutes however I see 2! one ate next to me, under the chair next to mine as if nothing had happened, another 30cm further away. the justification was "it's normal in Amsterdam"... let's talk about it, I live in a farmhouse in the Po Valley, mice are the order of the day but OUTSIDE THE WALLS, there are no mice in the house, and not even in restaurants (I'm a waitress, I know), not because they don't enter but because RODENT CONTROL is carried out, so traps are set and treatments are carried out to prevent mice from entering houses/restaurants... we're in 2025, not in the Middle Ages, mice they carry serious diseases, anything is fine but "we are in Amsterdam" is not a justification. having said that, not even a euro discount, but apparently it's "normal" to have dinner with a mouse here

sul cibo posso dire ben poco visto che ho assaggiato giusto l’antipasto (formaggi, nella media) visto che nell’attesa infinita dell’arrivo dei piatti principali ci è passato di fianco un topo… per il primo momento non faccio nulla (nonostante la mia grande paura per i topi) ma alla seconda volta mi viene proposto di cambiare posto e accetto. dopo 10 minuti però ne vedo 2! uno mangiava di fianco a me, sotto la sedia vicino alla mia come se nulla fosse, un altro invece 30cm più in là. la giustificazione è stata “ad amsterdam è normale”… parliamone, vivo in una cascina in pianura padana i topi sono all’ordine del giorno ma FUORI DALLE MURA, in casa non ci sono topi, e nei ristoranti nemmeno (sono cameriera lo so), non perché non entrano ma perché si fanno delle DERATTIZZAZIONI, quindi vengono messe delle trappole e vengono fatti trattamenti per non fare entrare i topi in case/ristoranti… siamo nel 2025 non nel medioevo, i topi portano malattie serie, va bene tutto ma “siamo ad amsterdam” non è una giustificazione. detto questo nemmeno un euro di sconto, ma qui a quanto pare è “normale” cenare con un topo

I liked the restaurant. The waitress accepted the request to move us from the door and place us at a more intimate table (there were spaces for this). The food is very good, I recommend the stamppot hutspot carrot and onion with tender beef and slavinken with boiled potatoes. In my taste a little expensive but it's good. The services are on the ground floor, clean but difficult to access and could be given a renewed look.

Attended for Sunday evening dinner here at De Blauwe Hollander after looking for authentic Dutch cuisine and we were very happy with our choice. Firstly I must thank our Spanish waiter (Sorry I did not get his name) but he was brilliant. Very inviting, friendly and polite. He was always ready to attend to our needs. The setting is cosy and great for a couple looking for a nice meal together. The restaurant is quite popular so you may need to book in advance or if its just a few of you then you could turn up on the off chance of finding a free table. The food was brilliant. We both enjoyed our starters and mains. I had the tomato soup and had a great homely taste, nice kick with the pepper also. For the main I had the steak and gravy which I enjoyed very much. We would have gone for a dessert, but we were both too full at this point. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for homely Dutch meal. Our time here was memorable and we both left very happy. Thank you for the amazing food and memories. One day we shall return!

We tried the spinach & meatball and sauerkraut & sausage Stamppot's and they were both fantastic. Definitely worth a visit!

I had dinner at this restaurant when I visited Amsterdam as a solo female traveler. I made a reservation for a seat, but it didn't seem like they had reserved a seat, so I was given a seat between a couple and a group of tourists. Even after that, people kept coming, and even if you didn't make a reservation, they seemed to be showing you around right away if you had a small group. If you are unsure, I think it is a good idea to go without a reservation! I ate the Dutch specialty, mashed potatoes with meatballs on top. It was delicious, but it was too much for one woman, so I had to leave it behind. It felt a bit awkward if you were alone, but I think the atmosphere, staff, and food were all good.

Never had such an uninspired sauerkraut stew before. I can do this better myself. It was actually just potatoes and the sauerkraut was hard to find. Not even a juniper berry used. Hey, sorry about this. The sausage was tasty, unfortunately they put a rather unappetizing gravy over it. Not recommended and certainly not worth 17.50.

A very perfect restaurant that serves authentic Amsterdam food. we went there twice to eat. delicious food, soft, tender meat combined with very delicious potatoes. for a creamy soup with bacon in it (the soup wasn't thick on our second visit). rissoles are not too bad. the service is very friendly and helpful. the dining atmosphere is very cozy and warm, the room is not too big but enough so that it is not crowded.

The best place in Amsterdam if you want to try the tasty Dutch specialities with fresh ingredients and a touch of elegance and lightness in the preparation. They offer a wide variety of Stamppot (potatoes and vegetables served with meat, meatballs or sausage) and amazing starters like the bitterballen (fried meatballs with mustard) and soups. Delicious desserts (poffertjes) and a fine selection of beers and wines will complete your meal. This place is not expensive: for a starter, a main courses and a beer you will pay about 32 euros.

We arrived early on a Saturday night, which is the thing to do if you don't have a reservation. I ordered the € 26 meal (appetizer, main, dessert), while my husband and son ordered the € 32 version (fancier choices of the same 3 courses). They got beers; I ordered a small bottle of water. Our total bill was € 108.50. I ordered the split pea soup, the stamppot with carrots and onions, and the yogurt/custard dessert. The soup was good, the dessert was very good. My quarrel with the stamppot is that the beef was not lean. When one bites into meat that is covered with sauce, she does not expect to discover inedible pieces of fat to deal with. My bigger complaint is the all-caps "TIPS ARE NOT INCLUDED" line printed in English (almost everything else on the receipt is in Dutch) at the bottom of the bill. No... "tips" are not included, but the service charge is, and that's what allows servers in Europe to earn an actual living. Yes, if your server did an outstanding job, you can leave him/her a tip and it will be appreciated. But the way this was written suggested to me that the restaurant was trying to mislead its English-speaking customers.

During our stay in Amsterdam we ate at this place without a reservation. We waited a few minutes and they immediately found us a table. We tried the stamppots! The one with the meatball was excellent, while the one with the "beef" the meat was a little tough, we expected it to be softer. The dessert (chocolate cake) was also excellent. The only flaw was that they placed us in front of the entrance door of the restaurant so every time someone entered or left we got cold. However, the waiters were very kind in apologizing several times. Quick service.

I visited around 5:30pm to eat Dutch food for dinner. I was alone without a reservation, but they happily prepared a table for me. I had mung bean soup, mashed potatoes with stewed beef on top, and hot tea. There was a dinner set, so it was easy to order even for those who were unfamiliar with it. All the dishes were simple and delicious. I wanted to try dessert, but I ended up feeling a lot more hungry than I expected, so I gave up.

Good Dutch food, but without much variation beyond the traditional stamppot. For those who want to try the dish, it is a good recommendation. Friendly service and pleasant atmosphere.

I piatti tutti ottimi, peccato il tempo di attesa delle portate principali... gli antipasti sono arrivati subito, mentre 40 minuti di attesa per 3 piatti su 4 e il quarto è arrivato 15 minuti dopo gli altri. Il cibo in compenso era molto buono. Credo sia stata sono una coincidenza sfortuanta dato che gli altri tavoli hanno ricevuto tutto relativamente in modo rapido.

First time in the Netherlands, my cousin invited me to eat at this restaurant. Everything was good, even though we were a little late 15 minutes. However, my cousin already informed the restaurant about the delay. Even for me, who likes to eat, this is quite large. A Dutch specialty that is worth a try. Stamppot beef.

I was so pleased with the food and service that I decided to return the very next day. On my second visit, I opted for the set menu, which included a rich pumpkin soup and a traditional stamppot. To my surprise, a staff member, Cate, recognized me right away and made my experience even more special. She seated me at a lovely table by the window and recommended the most authentic stamppot options. The pumpkin soup was creamy and full of flavor, but the stamppot stole the show. The dish featured soft, flavorful mashed potatoes paired with a delicious sausage that made every bite memorable. I highly recommend De Blauwe Hollander to anyone looking for an authentic Dutch dining experience.
