Great atmosphere and delicious food! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We came in without a reservation and after waiting about 30 minutes at the bar, we got a table. The wait didn’t feel bad at all thanks to the pleasant atmosphere at the bar. Definitely worth it!

The food was good, but the waiters' behavior was annoying and arrogant, as if they were doing us a favor, with the only exception of the girl who was kind.

We had high hopes for this restaurant as reviews were quite good. We wanted to try some authentic Dutch food. In particular, we wanted to expose our young kids to Dutch cuisine. We are a party of 5 with three adults and two kids under 5. We had made a reservation ahead of time. In total, we ordered 4 drinks, 2 appetizers and 3 entrees from their specialty menu. When the entrees arrived, we asked them to place the plate in the middle. Immediately, the waiter replied, "we are not a sharing restaurant, we do not provide sharing plates". We did not ask for sharing plates but did intend to share the dishes as we wanted to get a good taste of a few things on offer. It made us feel quite uncomfortable. Through our dining experience, the same waiter made other uncomfortable comments. We are not sure if he was upset we did not order 5 entrees for the table of 5 or perhaps he did not appreciate young kids or perhaps he didn't want to serve Asian people? At the time of settling the bill, the waiter said that they prefer cash but will accept card. They also mentioned that service was not included in the bill. Overall, food is reasonable. Beware, it is definitely not a family friendly restaurant.

Food was good. Atmosphere is great. It was cozy. Service was hit and miss. One server we had was friendly. Another one was very direct to the point it was rude. Not a great choice for a family with children under 5. The unfriendly server told us this is not a sharing restaurant and they do not provide sharing plates. We never even asked for sharing plates. We only asked to keep the food in the middle to keep my handsy 2 year old from touching it.

Delicious, typical Dutch food with generous portions. The place is small, so booking in advance is recommended. We went without a reservation and had to eat quickly.

The perfect place for some authentic Dutch food. Excellent service, we had a little misunderstanding but this was quickly and kindly solved by the staff. That was even more than we would have expected. Thank you guys I will be back in the next days!

We didn't have a reservation, but we were lucky enough to be able to eat at this restaurant! We waited a few minutes. A wonderful dining experience! We had ribs. They were excellent, and the beer was very good! The service was fast, and the servers were pleasant and eager to make sure everything was okay.

The best place to have dinner in 6 days in Amsterdam. Delicious, lots of it, filling. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. We will definitely come here again next time we come to Amsterdam. It is better to book a table in advance, but if you stumbled upon it like we did, you can wait 10-20 minutes and they will seat you.

A very nice, quaint restaurant in a central location, definitely worth a visit! We had Grandma's roast beef, which was delicious and plentiful. The staff was also extremely friendly and accommodating. A reservation is a must, though – we were able to make one in the morning, but by the evening it was full, and guests without a reservation were turned away. Cash (preferred) and card payments (at the counter) are accepted.

Was expecting a tourist trap but was pleasantly surprised by good food, nice vibes and possibly the nicest staff in Amsterdam, all at a good price point.

Highly recommended! Not only for the atmosphere and its traditional setting, but also because it's an excellent place to try local and traditional food. Grandma's stew is a must-order.

The restaurant has a truly old-fashioned Dutch décor, which creates a sense of tranquility. The staff is incredibly friendly, something I've never experienced before. The food is delicious; I had Grandma's braised meat (delicious), and my aunt had the lamb chops, also delicious. Thank you so much for your hospitality, and perhaps we'll see you again soon; we certainly enjoyed it.

A great discovery. Our first trip to Amsterdam. We were wandering around looking for a good, friendly, and affordable restaurant, and we fell in love with this vintage-style restaurant. The manager and his waiters were very pleasant, and we even got to speak a few words of French. The ribs are excellent; I recommend them and would definitely come back.

The food was very good, really big portions of authentic Dutch food. The service was also impeccable, everyone was welcoming, chatty and again- super Dutch. The interior is a cute very homey design. It was quite warm and a little bit loud but generally a really nice, slightly hectic restaurant.

It was really delicious. The soup everyone recommended was the best. I was told that I could eat Dutch local cuisine, and I was satisfied with everything. The sirloin steak was not cooked to the best, but I would recommend it to tourists.

We asked the concierge at our hotel for a recommendation for an authentic Dutch restaurant. The concierge sent us across town to Zwaantje and we couldn't have been happier. The restaurant was non stop busy on a Wednesday. Service was incredible, staff were engaging, and the food was outstanding. Highly recommended!

I made a reservation by chance (so many restaurants in Amsterdam that it's difficult to choose). The restaurant is on a quiet side street, the dining room is on a moderate scale (about fifteen tables), and the atmosphere is warm. Very warm welcome and service, and the prices are reasonable for a large tourist city. The chicken and beef stew, grandma's style, were very generous. For two starters, two main courses, and two glasses of wine, 67 euros.

The ribs were good and abundant. The wine was delicious. The Belgian waffle with vanilla ice cream, whipped topping, and hot Belgian chocolate was delicious. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was inviting. Yum!

Wanted to try Dutch food. Found this restaurant on Google and it was good. Took 20 minutes to get here. Simple service. Not much enthusiasm or polite words. Asked for wine but waiter didn't bring it. When ordering, I asked for two glasses of ordinary ice water and was charged about 6 euros.

This place is truly the best - the service is bang on from everyone, the food really is 10/10; a lot of attention to detail, and there are all the serviettes you could want splayed out in a jug on your table. It's also really good value for money. I can't fault it - it's probably top 5 best meals i've had, worldwide, ever.

Nice little restaurant in Amsterdam with very friendly staff and very good food

We loved the mushroom starter. The pea soup is quite different from what we've had at other restaurants. The vegetable stew wasn't bad. The dessert is too dense. I would recommend it if you want to share and try it. I don't think the online menu price includes VAT, as the total doesn't match. Cash is accepted.

A really excellent experience. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the food is great value and delicious. It feels like a truly authentic old school vibe establishment, and is a little gem tucked away in Amsterdam. Me and me friends arrived without a reservation, however the staff allowed us to dine prior to a forthcoming groups reservation. It is evidently best to reserve a table as it is certainly a popular place as it only got busier and busier throughout our time there. Absolutely would recommend to anyone in Amsterdam

Great team of competent and courteous young men out front with mom in the kitchen and dad behind the bar. Tavern-like atmosphere, terrific bistro fare. The Cordon-bleu is excellent (as was the calf's liver - I know it's not everyone's taste but I loved it) and great menu selections. Very reasonably priced and attentive service and quite a nice wine selection - we went for the bottle of the 'house' cabernet and it was excellent. Highly recommend.

This was not a pleasant experience. Our server was quite rude, he did not respond to our questions about the menu. The food arrived different from what was ordered, Were given small bowls of food, including what we did not order and told to share between the six of us. Upon payment I was aggressively pushed to include a tip that was certainly not justified. We will not return!

The first thing we experienced when we walked into Restaurant 't Zwaantje was the feeling of coming to a friend’s pub. The staff were super friendly and inviting. And wow! The food! We started with the snails. They were perfectly prepared and presented. For mains we had skewer of pork tenderloin with peanut sauce, French fries and salad, and the stamppot with a meatball. We opted for house red wine. The food was fantastic. If I had to make a complaint, it was not about the restaurant at all. We were next to an American family of four who spouted politics loudly (especially the father) for their entire meal. Luckily next to us was a large family gathering to celebrate a matriarch’s birthday. They were jubilant which went much more along with the enjoyable vibe we were going for! When I went up to pay the first question I was asked was “did you enjoy yourselves”? I appreciated that very much. My answer was yes. Next time we’re in Amsterdam, we’ll eat there again.

Very good dinner. We took two typical dishes recommended by Riccardo, a very kind and super helpful waiter. Very good beers. We spent a little more than 70 euros for a meat dish each, a shared soup, two beers and a coffee. Highly recommended!

A Hidden Gem in Amsterdam We arrived on a Sunday night, just after 9:30, when there were almost no places left. Without a reservation and with low expectations, we were greeted with a smile. And what a pleasant surprise we had! We ordered two soups, snails with garlic and butter, mussels, and a cut of steak. Everything was delicious: well-crafted flavors, generous portions, and perfectly paired with beers. The atmosphere is cozy, intimate, and has that charm that makes you want to stay a little longer. But what really stands out is the service. Definitely a place we would return to. Ideal for a leisurely dinner in good company.

We were looking for a place to dine on traditional food, and we truly loved it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. When we arrived, our table was still occupied, but since it was very cold outside, they were kind enough to let us in and sit at another unoccupied table while we waited for our table. We ate several dishes of traditional food, and it was truly delicious. The price was reasonable. We booked ahead of time through their website. Totally recommended!

One of the best places we found in Amsterdam. Starting from the welcome and the attention to the customer, up to the infinite goodness of the dishes. We had a classic dish and lamb chops: in addition to the perfect cooking, the accompanying sauce was literally fabulous. Absolutely to try!

Waiters are unpleasant and not welcoming. If you arrive 15min late they will give away your table. You’ll pay for frozen fries, frozen fish. Be careful if you ask for bread they won’t tell you that it’s extra charges… SURPRISE on the bill you have to pay for it and such a salty price for a disgusting frozen bread. The meat was not good either. Disappointed by the place and the people. If I were you I would walk away. Btw you eat on rugs … not tablecloths. Don’t they teach you hygiene rules at school ?

Disappointed because this restaurant does not accept children, we lost our table because we were 15 minutes late and the fries were very average (we were in Brussels at lunchtime!)

We decided on Café Restaurant 't Zwaantje based on the comments of people visiting this restaurant. To avoid any problems, we booked a table for 6 people well in advance. After arriving at the place, we had no problems choosing dishes and drinks. In addition to beer and a bottle of wine, we ordered soup and 6 meat dishes including: 2x Entrecote ± 250 grams, 2× Tournedos (± 225 grams) with chips and salad 27.75, 1× Veal liver with bacon and onions, 1x Cordon bleu (pork schnitzel stuffed with ham and cheese). All these dishes, as stated in the menu, were served with potatoes or fries and cooked vegetables or mixed salads (The main courses are served with chips or baked potatoes; steamed vegetables or a mixed salad (two choices). After about 35 minutes of waiting, the restaurant staff brought the ordered 6 meat dishes, 3 plates of fries, 1 plate of boiled vegetables and 1 plate of salad mix. When we immediately asked the staff where the missing plates of fries and vegetables were, we received an answer that they were still being prepared and we would get them in a few minutes. After 15 minutes, we had not yet received the ordered additions and we started an intervention with the room manager. Only then did we get the missing elements of the dishes, although not all of them. We didn't want to continue the discussion so as not to spoil our joy of being in Amsterdam. To sum up: we ate cold meat with warm fries. The quality of the dishes was correct.

Didn't have a reservation, but the staff was so kind. Food was phenomenal and the servings were large. We were excited to try it! Shrimp Appetizer, Lobster Bisque, Fish Soup, Grandmother's Meatball, Plaice Fillet - all fantastic!

I had a lovely meal here, great food, lovely staff, great service and a lovely atmosphere. It gets busy so best to book.

Do not go to this restaurant if you speak Spanish and do not know fluent English. We went to dinner and just for saying good night in Spanish they treated us terribly throughout the service. They never tried to make us understand each other, I speak a little English and none of my companions, but knowing it they spoke to us as if we were native English, without any empathy on their part, all the time ONLY ENGLISH, they told us. At the end of the service we reproached them for their attitude and they told us what would happen if they entered a Spanish restaurant speaking Dutch, with all due respect, Spanish is a language spoken by more than 500 million people and Amsterdam is a very touristy city and this is a typical Dutch restaurant, we would not be the first Spaniards to dine there, even so, with a little education on their part and my little English would have been fine. The food was average but I think it was because we made the wrong choice and we felt worse, they didn't help us at any time.

I dined at this restaurant on a Friday night with my boyfriend and two friends visiting from out of town. We had an 8:30 pm reservation but were left waiting outside for 20 minutes because our table wasn’t ready—the restaurant was full. To make matters worse, a group of three who arrived after us was seated before us. We were told it was because their table was for three, but once inside, we saw it was actually a four-top. We were finally seated just before 9 pm and placed our order shortly after. Unfortunately, our first course didn’t arrive for another hour and a half—by which point most other tables had cleared out. While the food was good, the long wait made it hard to fully enjoy the experience. The staff was friendly, but while I understand things can get busy, waiting that long—especially with a reservation made a week in advance—was really disappointing. Unfortunately, this wasn’t my first poor experience here; a previous visit with a group of three also involved waiting outside despite a reservation. The food is good, which makes it all the more disappointing—but regrettably, this will be my last visit.

Here you can find typical dishes from Holland, we tried grandma's stew and it is very very delicious 😋 (you can share this dish with another person). The place is very intimate and the decoration is very authentic (the tablecloths are rugs) with antiques. If you can make a reservation, do so because it fills up very quickly and has a very short schedule of 4:30 p.m. - 11:00 p.m.

Very good restaurant. Emile took great care of us even thought we were very late for our reservation. They were able to accommodate us. Wife ordered the schnitzel and it was delicious. Other items we ordered were also really good. This was a great stop for our first night in Amsterdam!

The worst restaurant in my one week in Netherlands. The maître d, if we can even call him that, was not only clearly high as a kite, he was incredibly rude to me and my husband. We walked in at our reservation time at 8.30pm. He made eye contact with us, walked up to us and stared at us, during which we told him about our reservation. He said nothing and ignored us for the next 10 minutes while he popped by multiple tables to chit chat (it would have been acceptable if he was clearing dishes, etc). It is worthy to note that the people he was happy to talk to were white; we’re of Asian descent and look so. When we finally asked him if our table would be ready soon, he had the cheek to retort curtly, “Are you in a hurry?”. We wanted to walk out then and there but decided to stay since the restaurant had good reviews and it was getting late. Turns out, the food is just as horrible as the service. Totally bland and tasteless, something I could have cooked myself (read: tossed in a boiling pot) on a busy weeknight even if I had no culinary experience but clean water and cookware. Hard pass. Patronise if you hate yourself and want to waste money.

Zoals altijd weer uitstekend gegeten. Bediening is vriendelijk. Druk en klein restaurant. Helaas is het wel een komen en gaan restaurantje geworden. Men wil de tafels weer snel leeg hebben dus de bediening werkt op turbo motor. Maar 't Zwaantje blijft een aanrader!

I am from Puerto Rico and I have been able to enjoy many restaurants in my 62 years in various parts of the world. When you go to a restaurant you want to enjoy FAMILY service to be able to taste the culinary art of preparing food. Emilio and his work team were a family serving all their guests in their home in the Netherlands. The food can be compared to a work by master Van Gogh, it is definitely exquisite Dutch food. Llegué al restaurante, todo parecía bien hasta que tuvimos que esperar para siempre a ser servidos. Los camareros seguían parados sobre ti con bandejas, hablando muy alto e inclinándose sobre ti para llegar a la barra... una vez que llegaba la comida... La sopa llegó muy acuosa y principal era sosa. Teniendo en cuenta el hecho de la lentitud del servicio, había más camareros que las mesas reales en el restaurante y casi todo el personal se estaba comportando extremadamente extraño, como lo son en el mundo de las hadas, haciendo ruidos extraños, rechinando dientes y constantemente haciendo clic en los dedos... definitivamente la experiencia más extraña que tuve...

Arrived to restaurant, everything seemed fine until we had to wait forever to get served. Waiters kept standing over you with trays, talking extremely loudly and leaning over you to get to reach the bar...once the food arrived... Soup arrived very watery and main was bland. Considering fact of slow service, there were more waiters than actual tables in the restaurant and almost all of the staff were behaving extremely strange, like they are in the fairy world, making weird noises, grinding teeth and constantly clicking fingers... definitely most weird experience I had...
