Good food in this cute, small restaurant! Erwtensoep/green pea soup, hachée, and vegetarische stamppot/vegetarian hotchpotch were all comforting and flavorful!!!

Unfortunately, we didn't enjoy the food. Everything was bland and poorly prepared. The staff was still okay.

Moeders is still exactly what it’s always been: warm, welcoming, and wonderfully Dutch in every sense of the word. From the mismatched plates to the walls lined with photos of mothers, it’s a place that feels like home the moment you walk in. If you go to one restaurant in Amsterdam, make it this one. And whatever you do, order the **Hollands Rijsttafel**. Then — and only then — you’ve truly had real Dutch food. If you don’t like it, better to keep that to yourself, because this is what people here *actually* eat… and honestly, it’s better than what 9 out of 10 real Dutch mothers make! 😂 They say you can never go home. “They” don’t know about Moeders.

The absolute best food we have had here in Amsterdam hands down! All local Dutch food!! I would come back here every day if I could but I won’t be here long.

The place is decorated with countless photos of mothers, as the name suggests! It's comfort food and a great way to warm up on a cold night. We tried the Dutch rice dish; it served two people well and gave us a chance to sample some of the different Dutch cuisine. 🙂

Had the Dutch Ricedish to sample several traditional Dutch specialties, and the Dolly's hachee was phenomenal! Ours came with three different bowls of potatoes which we weren't expecting based on how the menu read, and was a bit too much of that one food item. We both felt the sausage was a bit bland/forgettable. But still a delicious meal and would recommend!

Make reservations early. Small place and seems to always be full. Great food and good service. Spare ribs were on point and my wife had the salmon. She said it was done perfectly. Apple pie is delightful too

It’s not a place for locals — it’s very touristy, and I only heard English being spoken. I honestly can’t imagine anyone wanting to return, as the food is bland and poorly made. The atmosphere may feel unique at first, but that’s just the lure. Beyond the advertising and hype, there’s nothing of real value. Most guests seem to come once — their first and last visit. For us, it was by far the worst meal we had in Amsterdam.

Waited 45 minutes to a table to watch others get seated before us (without reservations). Were told we would be able to order drinks and small starters during out wait, but no one came. Sat down at the table and one staff was apologetic which was appreciated. Then we visibly watched the rest of the staff joke around, talking, on their phones, drinking their beers whilst food was sitting in the dumb waiter food lift. Asked for more water, waitress went straight back on her phone. Went to have her own drink and noticeably remembered to provide more water to our table (which we were charged for each jug). Asked for the bill. Waited a while again before getting up and asking again for another waiter to say 'yeah' and went back to wiping cutlery. Then the waitress behind the bar realised and asked the other staff member to bring the card machine over. Food was overly salted in the stews and cabbage, potatoes were plain. Overhyped restaurant in my opinion mainly due to service. Might be a one off since the rest of the reviews seemed positive, but I wont be coming back or recommending this place.

Salt and spice crisis Everything was overcooked In the end, I realized it tasted like a bad day in the hospital. Atmosphere: There were only a few seats outside. It felt like a construction site. I've rarely paid a lot for such a bad meal in such an unpleasant atmosphere.

Good food but rude waitress. The moment I walked in, they said I will only have 30 mins to eat. I was ok with that, and I understood them because yes, I walked in without a reservation. But they made me sit there for several minutes with nothing. I get that things often go at a slower pace here, but also, it was them who wanted me out in 30 mins for their reserved guests. I politely asked for the menu, and I got back “Miss, here in the Netherlands, we wait.” There could have been way better ways to phrase this, but instead, I was hit with a pedantic tone. Felt insulted. Food was good though.

This is the best restaurant in Amsterdam, i have ever been to. Really! The style of this hotel is unique! Everywhere on the walls and so are pictures of mothers. That gives a really good feeling! I was lucky, that i got one of the last tables. Its always really good booked. Better do a reservation! Now the food... Great! I hat Gehaktbal with Spinach-Stamppot, Bacon, Rookworst and a nice, dark sauce. The taste was great! When i am in Amsterdam again, soon, i promise: I will come back!

A special place I'll keep it in my heart An experience, not just a dinner

Delicious food, like you are eating food from your grandmother! Visited specific restaurant without reservation and even if restaurant was fully booked they manage to give us a table. We try stewed beef, served with boiled potatoes & red cabbage and the traditional mash potatoes with a meatball and sausage. Both were tasty and delicious!

This was the most satisfying meal I've had in Amsterdam (both in terms of price and taste). We ordered the soup of the day and one of the signature dishes, and the bread was included, so we were very full. It was a flavor that everyone would enjoy, and the soup of the day, tomato stew, was incredibly delicious.

I can’t emphasize it enough: DO NOT go there. I won’t insult the dutch by saying this is typical cuisine. We got the ricedish, which was almost okay, if not for the fact that it was badly disguised unedible French cuisine. Even the apple sauce was store bought. But the starters (happas) were just a joke. Store bought toast and tasteless cheese. (Brie, really? I know Brie and this was not it.) The « French » wine came in a screwtop bottle. Its just not worth it.

A truly perfect restaurant. The interior is incredibly cozy, and the outdoor seating is also lovely. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The food is simply amazing; we're so impressed that we'll definitely be back.

Mashed potatoes with sausages and bacon balls. The mashed potatoes have a great taste, the ribs are very deboned, and they pair well with cabbage salad and crispy fried fries, making them very delicious.

An ideal place if you want to enjoy authentic Dutch cuisine. The place is very unique, plastered with photos of mothers everywhere. The menu offers numerous traditional dishes. It's worth it, with average prices. Reservations are highly recommended if you don't want to eat outside in the freezing Amsterdam temperatures, as we did (😂). Luckily, there are several heaters above the tables.

The place is busy. We had to wait about 30 minutes before we got the table. On the bright side, the restorant has a special waiting sits where snacks and drinks are served. We had a sample tray and the food was delicious, especially the stews: regular and with onions ones. Be careful with ribs, they are slippery on the plate and 'jumps' of it on slightest tilt 🙂

Just stopped in for a snack and a drink but lovely lovely atmosphere

Hutspot was unexpectedly delicious. The atmosphere and concept are unique, and it's very popular and crowded, so reservations are essential.

We ordered the pea soup, the duck and the hotchpotch. We also received complimentary pretzels and bread. Everything was so delicious. The portions were quite large and very decently priced. The staff were very friendly. We didn't know to make a reservation but got lucky this time. Highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

I ate there today with family to commemorate our mother, who passed away just over a month ago at the age of 101. It was a very pleasant experience, and the food was delicious.

A small restaurant that's a great way to escape the touristy restaurants in the center. A generous and inexpensive children's menu is available (it's appreciated by large families). The dishes are good but could be a little more seasoned. My daughters loved the ribs and the waffles. It's recommended to make a reservation for more than 4 people.

very rich food, typical, very well served

This was our favorite meal in Amsterdam! We had the Hachee, Vegetarian Hotchpotch, and both were great! We told them that we're keeping halal, avoiding pork and alcohol, and they made sure everything was good (we subbed the cabbage side dish with a salad)

We got the food at the end,after anyone else and the owner (I guess) instead of saying sorry she goes: " you are not alone in this world,sometimes you need to wait". I don't undertand. The stew was also generous with meat, so two men ordered two dishes and were full. When I asked a local for restaurant recommendations, they recommended this place.

Terrible Experience !!Avoid at All Costs!! I rarely leave bad reviews, but our experience at Moeders was so disappointing I feel I have to warn others. We waited an unreasonably long time just to receive the menus. When we finally ordered both food and drinks, our drinks were forgotten entirely. Only after we asked did a young waiter bring them over — with no apology. As for the food, it never seemed to have been put into the system, because we sat there for 45 minutes before it arrived. Again, not even a simple “sorry for the wait.” The staff were shockingly rude and impatient, making us feel like we were an inconvenience rather than customers. When we politely asked about our food, an older woman snapped, “You’re not the only one here,” and walked away. I was stunned at the lack of basic courtesy. When the food finally came, it wasn’t even good. We left most of it untouched. The whole place feels like it’s running on the back of old good reviews, but in reality it’s overpriced, uncomfortable (hot in summer, with flies buzzing around), and not worth the money or the stress. We left feeling unwelcome, overcharged, and frustrated. Do yourself a favor... there are plenty of better places to eat in Amsterdam.

We had a wonderful meal and experience at Moeders. We came to this restaurant as we wanted to try genuine Dutch cuisine. Booking highly recommended, as they were actually having to turn people away when we ate on a Sunday evening. The food was delicious we had, hollandse rijstaffel which is a combination of stamppot, suddervlees and hachee. The service and staff were brilliant. I believe the restaurant is family owned and some of the staff are the daughters of the owner. Very engaging and very informative of the food that we ate. Would highly recommend this place. The photos of the mothers around the walls make it extra special.

Reserva muy recomendable, ya que en realidad estaban teniendo que rechazar a la gente cuando comimos un domingo por la noche. La comida era deliciosa que tuvimos, holandesa rijstaffel que es una combinación de stamppot, suddervlees y hachee. El Servicio y el personal eran brillantes. A very popular spot in Amsterdam. They have a nice original system where you sit outside and can order snacks and drinks whilst you wait for a table to order from menu. Located on the outer Amsterdam you avoid all the hassling. The restaurant has a lovely theme of 1000s of framed photos of mothers and children. A lovely atmosphere. Food was good, service great and food nice. Price as expected. Worth a visit.

A very good restaurant for Dutch food. There's a variety and good quality. It's usually packed, so it's recommended to book or go early. The fish of the day, along with the soup and meatballs, is highly recommended. There are several terraces if you want to enjoy the afternoon. The service was good, especially from one of the waitresses. The food could have used more pizzazz. The dishes were a bit bland. But otherwise, it was good. The prices were still reasonable.

Guests from America wanted something traditional, so after stroopwafels and herring, we ended up at Moeders. The Dutch rice table was highly appreciated by both the guests and us. The staff, who spoke to us politely in two languages, were also friendly and kind. Reservations are essential if you don't want to wait too long for an available table!

We're from Argentina. I found this place by chance while searching Google for the best restaurants in Amsterdam with hearty, homemade food. It truly exceeded my expectations; the food was delicious. Rose and Diego (who speak Spanish) served us super friendly. A place I'll definitely visit again!

Terrible food, bad decoration, the walls of the restaurant have never been cleaned, the pictures on the walls are covered with dust. To be honest, you have no reason to come here. The waiters are very impatient and completely ruin your dining mood. Especially in the summer, the ventilation is poor and the body odor of other guests makes you want to vomit. I will never go to this place again.

We came by around 8:45pm on a Tuesday night to check if walk-ins were possible for our group. We waited patiently to ask, only to be met with a very unwelcoming “What do you want?” followed by “We don’t have bookings until next year.” The tone was extremely rude and dismissive, one of the worst we’ve experienced across all our travels. It made us feel very unwelcome and, honestly, uncomfortable. We were considering dining here based on the good reviews, but this interaction changed everything. We understand if a restaurant is fully booked, but there’s a professional and courteous way to communicate that. This was not it.

Wow, I just stumbled upon this place by accident looking for some traditional Danish cuisine and I don’t think it gets any better than Moeders. You need a reservation, but luckily, I was just by myself so they squeezed me into a table. I went with one of their house specialties. I believe it was called the hopscotch which was comprised of a wurst, a Danish style meatball and some bacon with the centerpiece of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut with a dollop of gravy in the center. I started off with the asparagus soup which was in season and both dishes were hearty and delectable and if I remember correctly, you could even have the mashed potatoes mixed with other things like spinach, etc.. Do not miss this stop in Amsterdam. If you’re visiting for the first time, I would’ve gone back probably a couple of more times but my other hotel was way across town.

This place is amazing, the vibe is unmatched with the full “classic mother’s food” theme, very good decorated. The food per se is nice, there are options for you to try several of the classic dishes in a buffet-esque way, which I apprecciate a lot since I only had one chance to try the food here. Of course, the service is also top, very kind and helpful people, with waiters that speak all languages for ease of communication

We didn’t have a reservation but were able to get a table on the patio after a short wait. We were in the Netherlands for a week and had a list of foods we wanted to try including snert (pea soup), stamppot (mashed potatoes, veggies, and sausage), and Dutch apple pie. We were SO delighted that we found all of these and more at Moeders! We shared the sampler platter Hollandse rijsttafel and were instantly transported back in time to our Oma’s table. If you want delicious and authentic Dutch food, this is the place to come. The only disappointing thing was that we were so full that we didn’t have any room to try the apple pie!

This is a VERY popular restaurant, so make reservations! We ate here on our first night in Amsterdam, and it was a very accessible intro to Dutch food. We had the hotchpotch/stampot, pea soup (didn't really taste like peas? more like lentils tbh), and duck leg. Everything was tasty and the service was excellent. Love the mismatched tableware! And the unique decor!

A unique experience to sit around thousands pictures of mothers. Book a table in advance if you’d like to eat here. They tried accommodating people without reservations but weren’t always able to due to size constraints in the room. Service was great and food portions were large. The food is very hearty and best eaten in the winter. There’s not much ac inside so be prepared on warmer days. Overall an interesting experience but probably not one that we’d do again.

Very cozy atmosphere and kind staff that teach you how to mix your food in the Dutch way. I had the beef stew with boiled potatoes and red cabbage, very tasty and a lot of food for one person; go with an empty stomach haha
