A pleasant surprise. It's frequented by many tourists, but the place is unique, the food is good and plentiful, Dutch, and reasonably priced. The welcome was friendly and smiling. We had a great time. We hadn't booked, but they only asked us to wait a few minutes and then found us a table.

If you want to try some excellent Dutch cuisine, you absolutely must come to Moeders... we went without booking first... they were very kind and found us a seat, and even though the place was full, we were served very quickly... well done. Congratulations!

Very charming place. Food was amazing, meat fell off the ribs. First time having dutch cuisine and I though the stamppot was incredible. On a negative note, I did get an email later in the evening saying I'd missed my reservation.

All of them was very kind and love, always with a smile on face. We highly recommend this kind of confort food remembering our grandma food. Very nice food, beers and dessert.

The most beautiful and delicious place I've eaten in Amsterdam. The "Madres" concept is captivating from the moment you discover it; it's a beautiful story. The food started with a "pumpkin" soup of the day, which had a strong cinnamon flavor and was absolutely delicious! We ordered the duck confit and the mixed platter (minimum 2 people). There were three of us, and we were VERY satisfied. The flavor of the stewed meats, the different ways of cooking the potatoes, and the rustic yet exquisite Dutch cuisine were all wonderful. For dessert, we ordered cheesecake and apple pie. The latter was simply divine; don't order anything else. 💜 Visit it! Thank you for the excellent and friendly service. Traditional Dutch cuisine with charm I really wanted to try traditional Dutch dishes – mashed potatoes and meatballs were at the top of my list. During my research, I came across the restaurant Moeders (Dutch for "Mothers") – a perfect find! I especially loved the decor with its countless pictures of mothers on the walls. Guests are even welcome to bring a photo of their own mother – a fantastic idea! A big thank you to the friendly team who found us a table despite the restaurant being full and who explained and served everything so well. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Amsterdam!

Moeder’s is the definition of a true Dutch dining experience… cozy, warm, and full of character. We decided to let the staff choose our dishes, and honestly, they nailed it. We started with the green pea soup, which was way better than I expected. It was hearty, savory, and had this subtle smoky flavor that made it feel like comfort in a bowl. For the main course, we got the Hollandse Rijsttafel (Dutch rice dish), which came with all the traditional classics. The portions were generous, easily enough for two people. The meat was incredibly tender and flavorful, the potatoes perfectly cooked, and surprisingly, the applesauce stole the show for me. It wasn’t overly sweet and somehow tied all the other flavors together perfectly. The atmosphere is charming and intimate, with tables placed close enough that it almost feels like a big family gathering in the best way. If you’re looking for a spot to experience authentic Dutch comfort food, Moeder’s is absolutely worth it.

The place is tiny, the tables are all crammed together, and the kitchen is downstairs, in the basement. It's a bit unnerving. The food is good, but the menu might be a bit confusing if you're a foreigner… but oh well, it's fine.

Homey little spot for exceptional authentic dutch food! Definitely recommend getting a reservation as seating is limited. My wife and I tried the dinner for 2 and it was great! We especially enjoyed the sauerkraut and boiled cabbage. The meats were tender and the apple sauce was a nice side to pair with all of the items.

Service was incredibly great, people are really friendly, pleasantries and jokes were exchanged between us and the staff. Food was amazing too, highly recommended the lobster soup and bitterballen!!! We also ordered the Rijstafel but given that my friend and I were both not big eaters, we couldn’t finish it at all. Love the meat stew in the Rijstafel set and also the grilled potatoes were yummy. Highly recommended this place :)

We saw Moeders on Channel 4’s Travel Man show and were delighted that we were able to book a table for our final night in Amsterdam. It didn’t disappoint: the staff were friendly and efficient, the atmosphere was relaxed, the decor was cool and the food was hearty, delicious and reasonably priced. 10 out of 10!

If I could, I’d give 10/5! An amazing concept restaurant with delicious Dutch cuisine. You should definitely try the “Dutch rice dish” the portion is generous, and the beef with its sauce… I don’t even have enough words to describe it, you just have to try it! I came to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday, and the staff were so warm and welcoming. They offered us a dessert and a shot of Dutch liquor while singing Happy Birthday. We’re so glad we chose Moeders for this special day ❤️ Thank you for everything ❤️your kindness, your warm welcome, and above all, your DELICIOUS cuisine!

Had the Dutch Ricedish to sample several traditional Dutch specialties, and the Dolly's hachee was phenomenal! Ours came with three different bowls of potatoes which we weren't expecting based on how the menu read, and was a bit too much of that one food item. We both felt the sausage was a bit bland/forgettable. But still a delicious meal and would recommend!

Overrated, I have been in another less rating restaurants, I bet u the same dishes were more better in those ones, thats why do not focus on ratings

It’s not a place for locals — it’s very touristy, and I only heard English being spoken. I honestly can’t imagine anyone wanting to return, as the food is bland and poorly made. The atmosphere may feel unique at first, but that’s just the lure. Beyond the advertising and hype, there’s nothing of real value. Most guests seem to come once — their first and last visit. For us, it was by far the worst meal we had in Amsterdam.

Waited 45 minutes to a table to watch others get seated before us (without reservations). Were told we would be able to order drinks and small starters during out wait, but no one came. Sat down at the table and one staff was apologetic which was appreciated. Then we visibly watched the rest of the staff joke around, talking, on their phones, drinking their beers whilst food was sitting in the dumb waiter food lift. Asked for more water, waitress went straight back on her phone. Went to have her own drink and noticeably remembered to provide more water to our table (which we were charged for each jug). Asked for the bill. Waited a while again before getting up and asking again for another waiter to say 'yeah' and went back to wiping cutlery. Then the waitress behind the bar realised and asked the other staff member to bring the card machine over. Food was overly salted in the stews and cabbage, potatoes were plain. Overhyped restaurant in my opinion mainly due to service. Might be a one off since the rest of the reviews seemed positive, but I wont be coming back or recommending this place.

Salt and spice crisis Everything was overcooked In the end, I realized it tasted like a bad day in the hospital. Atmosphere: There were only a few seats outside. It felt like a construction site. I've rarely paid a lot for such a bad meal in such an unpleasant atmosphere.

A special place I'll keep it in my heart An experience, not just a dinner

Good food but rude waitress. The moment I walked in, they said I will only have 30 mins to eat. I was ok with that, and I understood them because yes, I walked in without a reservation. But they made me sit there for several minutes with nothing. I get that things often go at a slower pace here, but also, it was them who wanted me out in 30 mins for their reserved guests. I politely asked for the menu, and I got back “Miss, here in the Netherlands, we wait.” There could have been way better ways to phrase this, but instead, I was hit with a pedantic tone. Felt insulted. Food was good though.

This is the best restaurant in Amsterdam, i have ever been to. Really! The style of this hotel is unique! Everywhere on the walls and so are pictures of mothers. That gives a really good feeling! I was lucky, that i got one of the last tables. Its always really good booked. Better do a reservation! Now the food... Great! I hat Gehaktbal with Spinach-Stamppot, Bacon, Rookworst and a nice, dark sauce. The taste was great! When i am in Amsterdam again, soon, i promise: I will come back!

Delicious food, like you are eating food from your grandmother! Visited specific restaurant without reservation and even if restaurant was fully booked they manage to give us a table. We try stewed beef, served with boiled potatoes & red cabbage and the traditional mash potatoes with a meatball and sausage. Both were tasty and delicious!

This was the most satisfying meal I've had in Amsterdam (both in terms of price and taste). We ordered the soup of the day and one of the signature dishes, and the bread was included, so we were very full. It was a flavor that everyone would enjoy, and the soup of the day, tomato stew, was incredibly delicious.

Long story short, I’ll be back and I’d take people to visit. Cool atmosphere with some traditional Dutch things on the menu, great for people to experience.

I can’t emphasize it enough: DO NOT go there. I won’t insult the dutch by saying this is typical cuisine. We got the ricedish, which was almost okay, if not for the fact that it was badly disguised unedible French cuisine. Even the apple sauce was store bought. But the starters (happas) were just a joke. Store bought toast and tasteless cheese. (Brie, really? I know Brie and this was not it.) The « French » wine came in a screwtop bottle. Its just not worth it.

Mashed potatoes with sausages and bacon balls. The mashed potatoes have a great taste, the ribs are very deboned, and they pair well with cabbage salad and crispy fried fries, making them very delicious.

It's worth it, with average prices. Reservations are highly recommended if you don't want to eat outside in the freezing Amsterdam temperatures, as we did (😂). Luckily, there are several heaters above the tables.

We ordered the pea soup, the duck and the hotchpotch. We also received complimentary pretzels and bread. Everything was so delicious. The portions were quite large and very decently priced. The staff were very friendly. We didn't know to make a reservation but got lucky this time. Highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

A small restaurant that's a great way to escape the touristy restaurants in the center. A generous and inexpensive children's menu is available (it's appreciated by large families). The dishes are good but could be a little more seasoned. My daughters loved the ribs and the waffles. It's recommended to make a reservation for more than 4 people.

This was our favorite meal in Amsterdam! We had the Hachee, Vegetarian Hotchpotch, and both were great! We told them that we're keeping halal, avoiding pork and alcohol, and they made sure everything was good (we subbed the cabbage side dish with a salad)

We ordered. We didn't get the drinks. We asked for the drinks. We didn't get the food because they forgot to put the order in. We got the food at the end,after anyone else and the owner (I guess) instead of saying sorry she goes: " you are not alone in this world,sometimes you need to wait". I don't undertand.
