A wonderful place with delicious traditional food at very reasonable prices and excellent service. We had to wait about 10 minutes for a table to become available, but it was absolutely worth it. I had a lovely evening here with my family. It was my daughter’s birthday, and the staff kindly allowed us to light a candle and even wished her a happy birthday, which made the evening even more special. I was very happy with our visit and would definitely recommend this restaurant if you’re in Amsterdam and want to enjoy traditional, home-style food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

An unexpected week night meal here with my family absolutely blew us away. Short wait for a table, food was perfect, cold Dutch beer and apple pie. Gorgeous setting and the concept of the place brings a tear to your eye. We will be back, tomorrow and the next day!

There are many choices of traditional dishes. The food is very good (we chose the combination plate). The service is excellent consider how busy it is. The only downside is that it's really crowded and there's a little space between each table. You can easily have a conversation with your neighbors. By the way, love the pumpkin soup with ginger!

Such a cool restaurant! Not only was all the food very tasty, but the decor and vibe of the restaurant was amazing—a vibrant tribute to mothers and family from all over the world. It felt special to enjoy a traditional Dutch meal on with unique cutlery and tableware (as if it came straight from your mother’s kitchen). The service was great too! Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the mood for some Dutch food and a cozy experience.

The place has an amazing family vibe. It is really cousy and the history of the photos amazing. Food is nice ( the Lobster soup is CRAZY good) but it is really the place what shines here. I received several recomendarions in Amsterdam stating that this place is the REAL one in terms of original food.

We (as 2 people) came here after seeing recommendations online and ordered the Dutch Rice Dish. The staff were polite and attentive, and the concept of the place was interesting, but I cannot say the same for the food. Would I order it again? Absolutely not, nor would I return to this restaurant. Perhaps Dutch cuisine simply doesn't suit our palate, but the food felt very flat, one-dimensional, and lacking in flavor. I can only describe it as merely edible. At €48, paying mostly for potatoes and cabbage makes the prices feel quite inflated, though I suppose that comes with the territory of a "concept" restaurant. I cannot recommend it.

The service was excellent, and the food was delicious, especially the stewed beef. The potato portions were very generous. I recommend trying the pea soup and the platter.

Moeder’s was recommended for its traditional Dutch dinners, and we were very satisfied! I order Hachée, which was a delicious beef stew with onions and served with boiled potatoes and red cabbage. Also, this quaint restaurant lives up to its name as it is decorated wall-to-wall with photos of mothers!!

This is a great place for Dutch comfort food, but also for some more ‘modern’ dishes; the quality is high all around. In any case, with hundreds of mothers looking down at you it is pretty sure you will clean your plate with gusto - just in case.. The ambience is great with friendly service and they even organised a special birthday treat for me, which was a lovely gesture. Highly recommend and don’t forget to bring a picture of your mum!

I think this is the place to experience Dutch home cooking. Honestly, Germanic cuisine (from Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, etc.) isn't particularly unique or original in taste, so it isn't much different from German food. Gravy is the main flavor, and the dishes mostly consist of potatoes and sausages. There is a Dutch home-style set available, and since two men ate quite a filling meal, I think it offers good value for money. A red cabbage dish similar to sauerkraut was served; my companion didn't like it, but I enjoyed it. The Dutch-style braised short ribs were really tasty and tender. The beer is good, and the staff are incredibly friendly and don't pressure you to tip.

It was a challenge to find authentic Dutch food until I found this restaurant. Went here during my first trip and loved the authenticity of the place. Brought my mother during my second trip to Amsterdam on Mother's Day, and we had a great time. The stews were delicious.

We tried suddervlees and hachee. Both were delicious. It's a place you can choose if you want to try dishes typical of traditional Dutch cuisine. It's a local eatery concept. However, we weren't very satisfied with the service. The bread, which was brought directly to everyone, only arrived at the end of the meal after we asked for it twice.

Really enjoyed our visit to this popular and quirky Dutch restaurant. Highly advised that you book. We showed up about 10 minutes after opening and were lucky to get an indoor table without one! We were met with a lovely deliberately miss-matxhed interior, with just about every surface plastered with photos of the mothers of previous customers smiling at you! It feels every bit a celebration of mother's and motherhood. Service was very friendly throughout. We knew we would only have the table for an hour and 20 mins (as we had no booking) but did not feel rushed at any point. There was a great kids menu on offer, and our daughter loved the spare rib option. My wife and I had the Dutch sharing plate for two which contained two beef stews, bacon, sausages, potatoes, sourkraut and red cabbage. Really hearty, home-style cooking - which by its nature worked with my wife's gluten-free needs. One of the beef stews was a little on the fatty side, but everything else was tasty and prepared well. Deserts were simple but fine, extra points for the special on our visit being a gluten free brownie. One to try if you want some authentic Dutch food during your trip.

Perhaps the best place for local Dutch food. The concept and the taste are fantastic. We especially loved their meats and sauces.

This restaurant is ridiculously overrated. I honestly don’t understand why people come here, unless it’s simply for the photos on the walls. The food is so completely unremarkable that I genuinely feel you could make something a billion times better at home. There was absolutely nothing memorable or special about it. I definitely do not recommend coming here and wasting your time and money.

Excellent spot! Authentic taste of Amsterdam with great local food and a warm lively atmosphere. Strongly recommend the ricedish to sample all the flavours. We didn’t have a reservation but only waited about 30 minutes while having a drink on their terrace.

The food is absolutely fabulous and very tasty. Making a reservation beforehand is recommended. But the outdoor seating was also good.

We visited this restaurant recently and it was just amazing, we were looking for a restait which is not a tourist trap, it actually wasn’t, the food is good like we are eating at our moms place, I adored the background story, I even left a picture of my mom there.. the staff are nice, I noticed even if there is no table yet they will offer you to wait or sit in the tables outside offering a drink, the vibe is so cozy too. I recommend it highly

When a dutch person makes a recommendation you take it! So glad we did this place was fantastic, great food and service. We went early like 5:30. Everything was fantastic. Very classic home cooking, as the name suggests.

Authentic Dutch cuisine. The restaurant's name translates to "Mama's," so there's always a mother (the owner) cooking with her children (the staff). We didn't have a reservation, but the owner arranged a table for us. However, there was a time limit; it was during mealtime, which was plenty of time for us. Our group ordered pork ribs, fried fish fillets, and chicken skewers as our main dishes. Overall, the flavors were just right, not too greasy. Suitable for those wanting to experience authentic Dutch cuisine. However, because the restaurant has many photos of mothers from various places on the walls, those with trypophobia should think twice or consider outdoor seating.

I don't think the food is very good. You'll find a place with similarly poor food anywhere else in Amsterdam. The tables are too close together, to the point of being uncomfortable.

I went to Moeders restaurant on the recommendation of Verónica Zumalacarregui's show "Me quiero comer el mundo" and I loved it! The space is beautiful, very welcoming, and it really feels like our grandmother's living room. As it was my first time, I asked the staff for advice on the menu and they were extremely kind and attentive with their recommendations. The food is comforting, warm, and delicious! Important tip: You need to book in advance (I made my reservation a month in advance through the website and they charge a deposit), but it's 100% worth it. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back! 🍲❤️

Me and my partner came for dinner tonight food was great. The venue felt nice with cool style, and some great nostalgia with the dinner wear. Venue is a little cramped tho. Food was tasty and authentic but a bit basic. Overall enjoyed. Just a side note your menu online doesn't reciprocate what you use on site. Understandable that prices rise but needs to be changed on your website. Cost us abiut 10 euro more than we thought.

Unfortunately a horrible experience, while the food was good the service leaves something to be desired. We got our main meal 2 hrs after getting there and the explanation was that the kitchen lost our ticket even though we had been promptly served our starters. Not one server came to check on us and we had to try flag them down for a drink, which was hard as they were busy. I’m sure they really don’t care about this review because they are busy but attention to detail when people are spending their money at your restaurant should be a priority! The whole experience was a huge disappointment, especially after we booked this for our last night in Amsterdam and were very excited to go. We would not return or recommend to anyone. In response… we ordered at the same time as the table next to us and they had almost left by the time we got our meal…so no dining here doesn’t take this long.

If you're in Amsterdam and want to try Dutch cuisine, you have to come here! The menu doesn't offer a huge selection, but all the dishes are traditional and tasty. The staff is truly friendly and attentive. The location is very charming and charming; in the summer, it's lovely to dine outside. The price is fair. We recommend the Stuffoot and the Dutch tasting platter.

Nice place to sit, but I really don't think €4.50 for about 100–120 ml of orange juice is proportionate. When I pointed this out, all I was told was that it is “always like that”. A shame.

I ate well at Moeders. Partner’s fish, however, was too salty and when we mentioned this to the waiter, he never came back to us with a comment from the kitchen. In any case, we enjoyed sitting outside on this hot summer day with nice cold beers.

We found this place via a recommendation that was in our hotel room for traditional Dutch food. The presentation of the food and the dishes was not something I can recommend. The place is nice and the staff and ambiance are also not bad. Just don't order the traditional Dutch dishes. Potatoes were raw or overcooked, the cabbage soup or whatever it was was lukewarm and inedible even with mustard. We waited 45 minutes for the dishes that looked like something from a bad cafeteria heated in the microwave

Meh....I will not go back! Food is marginal. Overcrowded and no AC!!!

Everything was incredible, the food was spectacular, where you can try the best of typical Dutch dishes, in a unique and different setting. Moders means mother in Dutch and is a tribute to all those mothers who have fed us or continue to feed us.

Moeders was delicious. It brought so many memories of my Dutch mom's cooking - growing up in the US, I relived some of my childhood through this dinner. I was fortunate to share the experience with my sister and our families. The split pea soup was just like my mom used to make it, and there were dishes that we had that I forgot about! Of course we had to share the Apple cake for dessert, even though we were full, and it was very tasty. The service was friendly and welcoming. We made a reservation in advance, and am so glad that I did, as they were turning people away who tried to walk in. The atmosphere is cozy and unique with the family photos filling the walls. I hope you enjoy your experience as much as my family and I did!

It is very important to book ahead (online) as this is a tourist favourite. They also require a deposit and charge for no-shows. I wouldn't risk trying to do a walk-in. I first tried this restaurant 15 years ago. 15 years later, the food matches with what I remember. It's hearty and straightforward food. It's a good representation of traditional Dutch food as far as I know. Although there were 3 types of potato's included, they all tasted different. One was roasted, one was roughly mashed with chunks still present, and one had sauerkraut mixed in. The beef stews were very savoury. The apple and cabbage provided much needed contrast. The room itself is very cool and has lots of character. Overall, I'd temper your expectations regarding flavours as it's very straight forward and comforting food. There are no exotic spices or sauces used really. You'll enjoy the experience if you go in with that mindset!

There's one place you absolutely must visit to experience Dutch cuisine and Amsterdam's warm hospitality. This charming spot absolutely requires a reservation. The cuisine, including the famous rijsttafel, is a local institution. The service is efficient and always with a smile. The prices are reasonable. A perfect experience.

The place was full of photos; we ordered the sharing menu, which I think was €22 per person. The desserts were very good. If you book online, they require a deposit (€40 in our case), which they refund if you cancel. We went anyway.

It's always nice at Moeders', but unfortunately the stew wasn't as tasty as usual. The meat was fatty, the potatoes were too hard, and the gravy too watery. A shame.

We were lucky to have Finn as our "waitress". She was telling us the story behind the name Moeders, turns out her father is the owner! Order the house specialties, they're great. If you're not very hungry, the soups are excellent and not watery. The service is fast but a bit chaotic, but acceptable on a Saturday night. I recommend making a reservation; I arrived without one and got a table on the condition that I could vacate it in an hour.

It's a Dutch restaurant. The waiters are excellent, the table service is fast, and the average price is €25.00 per person. We were served without a reservation, but they told us we could stay until 9:00 PM, as they normally only accept reservations. I found the decor exotic, and the space between tables was quite limited for the number of people. It's a fairly busy place.

Recommended by the bartender at Mövenpick Amsterdam, and what a recommendation Moeders was! Even though the kitchen was already closed, Boet kindly made sure we had fries because we didn’t want to enjoy our beer on an empty stomach. Such a thoughtful gesture! The croquettes were delicious, the Mama Blond beer was one of the best we’ve had, and the desserts—the Dutch apple pie and stroopwafel ice cream—were absolutely top class. To make the evening even more special, the team celebrated the end of the day with us by sharing a shot of Juttertje, a traditional herbal liqueur from the north of the Netherlands. Such a warm and memorable touch! A big thank you to Boet and the whole team for the incredible hospitality. Amazing food, amazing people, and definitely worth the cheating calories! 🤣 Highly recommended.
