Rude and slow wait staff with honestly pretty mediocre food. I would avoid this place.

Very nice place, plastered with photos of mothers (just like the name)! You can even bring your own ❤️! They serve Dutch specialties (meatloaf, sausage, and stew accompanied by various potatoes, purees, and cabbage, just like your mother would cook them! Very friendly! Quite small and very popular, so to be sure of a great place, book well in advance!

We came by around 8:45pm on a Tuesday night to check if walk-ins were possible for our group. We waited patiently to ask, only to be met with a very unwelcoming “What do you want?” followed by “We don’t have bookings until next year.” The tone was extremely rude and dismissive, one of the worst we’ve experienced across all our travels. It made us feel very unwelcome and, honestly, uncomfortable. We were considering dining here based on the good reviews, but this interaction changed everything. We understand if a restaurant is fully booked, but there’s a professional and courteous way to communicate that. This was not it.

Wow, I just stumbled upon this place by accident looking for some traditional Danish cuisine and I don’t think it gets any better than Moeders. You need a reservation, but luckily, I was just by myself so they squeezed me into a table. I went with one of their house specialties. I believe it was called the hopscotch which was comprised of a wurst, a Danish style meatball and some bacon with the centerpiece of mashed potatoes and sauerkraut with a dollop of gravy in the center. I started off with the asparagus soup which was in season and both dishes were hearty and delectable and if I remember correctly, you could even have the mashed potatoes mixed with other things like spinach, etc.. Do not miss this stop in Amsterdam. If you’re visiting for the first time, I would’ve gone back probably a couple of more times but my other hotel was way across town.

We didn’t have a reservation but were able to get a table on the patio after a short wait. We were in the Netherlands for a week and had a list of foods we wanted to try including snert (pea soup), stamppot (mashed potatoes, veggies, and sausage), and Dutch apple pie. We were SO delighted that we found all of these and more at Moeders! We shared the sampler platter Hollandse rijsttafel and were instantly transported back in time to our Oma’s table. If you want delicious and authentic Dutch food, this is the place to come. The only disappointing thing was that we were so full that we didn’t have any room to try the apple pie!

This place is amazing, the vibe is unmatched with the full “classic mother’s food” theme, very good decorated. The food per se is nice, there are options for you to try several of the classic dishes in a buffet-esque way, which I apprecciate a lot since I only had one chance to try the food here. Of course, the service is also top, very kind and helpful people, with waiters that speak all languages for ease of communication

This is a VERY popular restaurant, so make reservations! We ate here on our first night in Amsterdam, and it was a very accessible intro to Dutch food. We had the hotchpotch/stampot, pea soup (didn't really taste like peas? more like lentils tbh), and duck leg. Everything was tasty and the service was excellent. Love the mismatched tableware! And the unique decor!

Very cozy atmosphere and kind staff that teach you how to mix your food in the Dutch way. I had the beef stew with boiled potatoes and red cabbage, very tasty and a lot of food for one person; go with an empty stomach haha

A unique experience to sit around thousands pictures of mothers. Book a table in advance if you’d like to eat here. They tried accommodating people without reservations but weren’t always able to due to size constraints in the room. Service was great and food portions were large. The food is very hearty and best eaten in the winter. There’s not much ac inside so be prepared on warmer days. Overall an interesting experience but probably not one that we’d do again.

I had a wonderful time with my mom! So much fun looking at the photos, fantastic! And of course, I took a picture myself. The stars speak for themselves, book now and experience it for yourself!

If you like potatoes, you’ll love their dish—it’s loaded with them! The service was a bit slow.

The best choice if you want to try the authentic Dutch cuisine. The Stamppot with smoked sausage, bacon and meatball is the best in Amsterdam, the suddervlees (slow cooked beef stew) is the most delicious dish, the duck leg with vegetables was perfectly cooked and the desserts are very good, above all the apple cake and the caramelized pear. They also have a good choice of special beers.

The ambiance is wonderful. The food is unique and delicious. They serve kings of cheese up front. However, the service is incredibly slow. You'll have to wait a long time, but it's worth it. If you ask for something, they might forget it, and you'll have to ask again.

Fantastic local cuisine in unique setting. Good traditional food like you would have at Sunday supper and grandma’s house. Sure beats pizza or burgers at nearly the same price. Book ahead!

Fantastic visit and food was Exactly what we’d hoped. Nearly every bite reminded us of the food our father made when we were young. Service was sincere and the young lady that took care of us was so sweet and patient in her description of each item. Definitely recommend reservations but they have plenty of seating to accommodate. Will return when I’m in town.

For a restaurant delightfully themed around mothers, it absolutely delivers "my mum's home cooking" in every bite. Would recommend the Dutch rice dish for two which offers more than enough for our appetite and lets you try a big variety of food

A Dutch restaurant with chill vibes and friendly service, some Asians may not like the food but I think it’s tasty, beef stew is tastier to eat with their red cabbage, pork ribs are delicious, just the fries are a bit too salty for us. Maybe better to try their famous platter here

They book entire restaurant out, zero common sense.

Called to come with my family later that day & was told “do not come we are booked out” What is the point in booking out every single seat? What happens if some people don’t turn up? Please be smart & leave spaces for walk in clientele. Selling every single seat in a restaurant isn’t a bright move.

Food average €40,- and then it goes quickly with something to drink. 2 wines, water and a soft drink pp total €60,- per person

The night was started off by getting yelled at by the older lady sever as I tried to step in to allow room for the people behind me to pass through the door. The lady yelled at me “ to get back! i will come get you when I’m ready.” I was definitely taken aback because the people who went through me didn’t have the same treatment. We sat down right next to where the servers would throw on plates and it was extremely loud the entire time with both the servers around and plates/utensils being thrown in. The entire time, the servers were also passing chairs over our heads, no warnings whatsoever. We kept on having to duck and kept on getting bumped by both other guests and servers going out to the outdoor dining area. A younger male sever came to our table and took our order but he didn’t know much about the menu (despite the board asking us to ask the severs about the menu). We had decided on their fish and curry dishes, along with a salad. The food was decent, but the environment and service was so bad.

The food was delicious While you wait, they bring you bread with kraut and sauce. These were also very nice. The bread was warm 🤤 We got carpaccio and a 5-piece appetizer plate as a starter. In the appetizers, the bread of the canapés tasted different and the börek was not to our liking. The oysters were very nice. We also liked the duck appetizer. We chose two traditional dishes for the main course Stamppot (we chose the potatoes with spinach, which may have been the wrong choice) and Suddervlees (there is also a special version of this for the restaurant, which could be better). Both were nice, we liked them.

The vibe of the place is the most memorable, with hundreds of photos of mothers adorning the walls. I was in awe the moment I entered the restaurant. Of course the food was very good as well, I was happy to try the authentic Dutch dishes - the stewed beef was tender and fragrant; soups were delicious too… a bit filling as serving is generous, so if you’re a small eater, you may want to share one soup between two to save appetite for the main course and dessert. We didn’t make a reservation, thinking that on a Tuesday 6pm, we should be able to get a table. Boy were we wrong as this place is popular! We were lucky to get a table for two but better to book in advance to avoid disappointment.

My husband and I ate here during our visit to Amsterdam, having seen it featured on a couple of travel shows. The restaurant was cute and packed, but we got a drink outside on the patio while we waited for a table to open up. Servers were friendly. Husband ordered the ribs and fries and liked them…very tender. I had the steak with potatoes and veg. It was ok, a little bland. Later that night I became violently ill, so I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning.

The best place to taste traditional Dutch food, especially if you have never been invited for dinner at a Dutch family. They serve typical mother’s recipes as every Dutch person will remember.

The food is cooked fine, and the service staff is fine, but I can't give 3 stars for a taste I don't like. I need to apologize to the restaurant for this, but the taste of this food is really the opposite of what I'm used to. The taste of food in my hometown is: heavy, salty, sweet, spicy, oily, and with a lot of artificial seasonings. But the food in this restaurant is very natural, without much seasoning, it's the original taste of the food and it feels very healthy. This may be good for most people, but I really think it's very different from what I'm used to, so I can only give 2 stars, sorry.

They say they close at 11:30 p.m. That's not true. The kitchen closes at 10:00 p.m. We arrived at 9:50 p.m. and weren't served.

They created a great environment. The food was also very good. We ordered the mixed option for 2 people and we liked it very much. Since it is a menu heavy on potatoes, we can say that it is very filling.

Everything was perfect. We had an early reservation and were seated immediately. Our server was a very polite and funny young man. He laughed at our silly American jokes and had clever responses. The food was some of the best we had on a 25 day 5 county trip. It is not fancy but well presented and prepared perfectly. The portions were generous. It is mom's or grandma's home cooked comfort food. Stop in you will not be disappointed.

They found us a place even without a reservation at the last second. Super kind. Very good and typical food. Of course the typical offer is a plate with two samples of stews and three courses of boiled, mashed and roasted potatoes but nevertheless this is the local cuisine. Ok, for a traditional beef stew,boiled potatoes and red cabbage, it was spot on. My Ribs were soft and tender and a bargain at 21 euro! It's great when you don't get ripped off for cheap pork,(like in Australia!), lovely place, amazing place, you just have to visit this restaurant.

This is a very popular restaurant, when we were there the place was packed so reservation is recommended. The food served is described as traditional Dutch food. We had the Ricedish which has the combination of Dutch specialities. The taste was good along the lines of a good home cooked dinner. What stands out are the decor of the place which walls were adorned by pictures of mothers sent in by patrons from all over the world. Another plus point is that of the staff. Full of personalities and delivering a service that feels warm.

For our last night in the Netherlands, we chose Muddas, which had been recommended by many people on their blogs. We were very satisfied with the result! We had the traditional Dutch stew, Hershey, and salmon from tonight's blackboard menu, and the Hershey was delicious! The staff were also very friendly😊 We were able to enter without a reservation after 5:30pm, but the restaurant was full by 6:30pm.

Locale molto carino, pieno di foto ai muri di mamme, per sottolineare come la cucina sia casalinga. un po' distante dal centro turistico. Mi son fatta consigliare stesso da loro per un piatto tipico olandese, una specie di spezzatino, molto buono! Anche il dolce che ci ha portato era squisito come pure la birra. Prezzo nella media. bisogna prenotare perchè sempre pieno. People were super friendly and very nicely decorated with all the pictures of mothers. The food was mediocre. Pea soup was spicy and not very thick, also missed bacon and Unox sausage. Portions were a bit on the small side.

Moeders is a restaurant like no other. The decoration is unique, filled with pictures of lots of mothers... Because that's the concept, it's like going to eat to your mother or grandmother's house. Cozy vibe, great food, and the staff is the most wholesome people you can find, they treat you like you're family and pay attention to all the details. We came from Argentina and they made us feel like home. The food was absolutely perfect, and the staff incredible. Linge (I hope I got the name right, sorry if I didn't), our waitress, was super kind and sweet. I would 100% recommend Moeders!!!

For those who want an experience close to the river and with a touch of local food and drink and a true Dutch experience. This is the place. I suggest sitting outside next to the windows.

I’d heard this was one of the must-visit spots while staying in Amsterdam, so I booked a table online about a month in advance — and I’m glad I did! When we arrived, people were being advised that there was a long wait due to no availability. It’s a restaurant that specialises in Dutch “mother’s” home-style comfort food, which is a really lovely concept. The place is decorated with photos of guests’ mothers from over the years and I believe you can still bring a photo to have it added to the wall (correct me if I’m wrong!). For the main course, we both had the Stamppot / Hotchpotch - mashed potatoes with vegetables, served with a sausage from butcher Louman, a meatball and bacon. You get to choose from sauerkraut, spinach, or carrots & onion as listed on the board on the wall. We went with spinach, and it was absolutely delicious! A little pot of gravy and some mustard were brought to the table as well, the whole dish was pure comfort food and I was very happy with my choice. For dessert, my partner had the apple pie and I went for the stroopwafel ice cream, again both were really tasty. My partner enjoyed hers too, although she hadn’t expected it to be served cold but that may well be a Dutch tradition though, so it was more of a surprise than a complaint. The only downside was the service. We waited quite a while for the dessert menu, and again afterward for our plates to be cleared and to ask for the bill, it must have been at least 20 minutes. We felt a bit forgotten, which unfortunately takes a star off the rating. That said, it was still a lovely visit overall and a great opportunity to try some traditional Dutch cuisine.

My second time in Amsterdam and my second time at Moeders. I love the cozy atmosphere, the good food, and the opportunity to sample Dutch cuisine.

Delicious food and friendly service. However, I found it too cramped and claustrophobic. Tables are all close together and there is no privacy. The decor is beautiful and creative, with photos of mothers. I thought it was very pretty. If you increase the distance between the tables, it would be perfect.

After some research, we came to try it during our Amsterdam vacation. The atmosphere, the place, the mother photos hanging everywhere and the very friendly staff were great. We had asparagus soup, lobster soup and ribs as food. Although we ordered the smaller ribs, the portion was huge. It was very delicious. We also loved the bread that came with it. Super, lecker und empfehlenswert. Obwohl wir nicht reserviert hatten, konnten wir fpr 1,5 Stunden einen Tisch ergattern. Waren allerdings nach ca. 45 Minuten bereits fertig. Service ist auf zack, freundlich und Essen (echt niederländische Küche ) wurde schnell serviert und schmeckte hervorragend. Preise angenehm.

Actually, I didn't eat there so I can't give it a proper rating, but I'm going to leave a review so I'll give it an average rating. I visited the Anne Frank House and went there for dinner. It was my first time there and there was road construction going on nearby so I had a hard time finding it by going around. I took a couple of pictures while waiting at the entrance, and when I made eye contact with the server and told him I was alone, he refused. I don't know if it was because it was busy and there were no seats, or if it's because it's a place that doesn't allow single diners. If it's a place that doesn't allow single diners, it would be nice to have that kind of notice. The thought that came to my mind as I turned around was The sign says "Moms," but I feel bitter that moms want to take better care of people who are alone...

Bel locale, perfetto per immergersi nell’atmosfera della tradizione olandese. L’ambiente è molto particolare, pieno di fotografie di mamme (da cui il locale prende il nome). La cucina è buona con sapori genuini. Si prenota online con anticipo (noi abbiamo controllato più volte sul sito se si fosse liberato qualche posto e siamo riusciti a prenotare grazie a una disdetta di altri). Alcuni ragazzi però sono arrivati senza prenotazione e hanno comunque cenato attendendo che si liberasse il posto. Ottimo lo stufato di manzo. Consigliato

We got the traditional Dutch food which reminded me of my own country's food. We had great service overall. The space is small so it's a little tight to get around. The thing I disliked the most was their chairs. They were the most uncomfortable chairs and my back was hurting that I couldn't wait to leave for that reason. Please consider new chairs!

Absolutely amazing food, I wish I could have eaten more. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was spectacular. I wish I could bottle this place and bring it home.

I have been to Amsterdam over twenty times over the past 28 years, first when I was 18. We have eaten in so many places, from the streetfood, pizza, frittes in between coffeeshop trips, to Michelin star restaurants. For the first time in all those years, we asked some people about going to eat some proper dutch food, like the home cooked stuff. Tue lady in one of our favourite shops told as about Moeders. We walked 30ish minutes from the centre to find it and we were not disappointed. They were lovely smiley people serving us in this busy and vibrant restaurant. There were three main speciality dutch dinners, along with some other foods, like ribs etc. However, there was an option to have a sharer of a mixture of all three of the traditional dutch dishes, called the Dutch Rice dish. You can’t and mustn’t look past this. My wife and I tried this and we both ate very well and were very satisfied. It really felt like we had just been cooked an amazing home cooked meal by our favourite dutch nana who cooked it with love.

Moeders delivers on comfort food in a relaxed, picture-filled room full of memories and photograph's of mothers over the decades. The lobster soup was incredibly delicious however the duck con fit was too salty. The power in the toilets (restrooms) went out twice while we were there and that made for an inconvenient experience for my 81 year old mother. Service was good but not great.

Food was very good and really local. If you want the experience of the Netherlands it's really a must.

We stopped by for a typical Dutch meal and were not disappointed. As we arrived early, there was still a table available, but it is recommended to book in advance as the place always seems to be packed.

Lovely place. All went great except that we got a situation when leaving that was a cultural crush. Our bill was something xx.95 so naturally a 5 cents coin returned to the table (in our culture we don’t put it back in our wallet) and an older gentleman was VERY upset with us because of that, saying our 5 cents wouldn’t help anyone and some more offensive stuff. We didn’t even know how to react as we were already heading out, it was humiliating. Nevertheless except for this very final moment we actually had a great time. The restaurant is full of pictures or mothers (like my sister said- tons of history is held by those walls) our food was delicious and could have fed 3 people with average apetite. We loved the traditional Dutch food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. The waitress brought us her favourite beers (a white and a blonde one) btw only reason service is not 5 stars is the situation described above as a place that might receive people from around the world should have some sensibility for these things. The waitresses explained all the dishes in the rice plate for two persons. They were all yummy and the beers paired really well together. I’d still return and recommend this as a must go, even after the misunderstanding.
