Authentic Dutch cuisine. The restaurant's name translates to "Mama's," so there's always a mother (the owner) cooking with her children (the staff). We didn't have a reservation, but the owner arranged a table for us. However, there was a time limit; it was during mealtime, which was plenty of time for us. Our group ordered pork ribs, fried fish fillets, and chicken skewers as our main dishes. Overall, the flavors were just right, not too greasy. Suitable for those wanting to experience authentic Dutch cuisine. However, because the restaurant has many photos of mothers from various places on the walls, those with trypophobia should think twice or consider outdoor seating.

I don't think the food is very good. You'll find a place with similarly poor food anywhere else in Amsterdam. The tables are too close together, to the point of being uncomfortable.

I went to Moeders restaurant on the recommendation of Verónica Zumalacarregui's show "Me quiero comer el mundo" and I loved it! The space is beautiful, very welcoming, and it really feels like our grandmother's living room. As it was my first time, I asked the staff for advice on the menu and they were extremely kind and attentive with their recommendations. The food is comforting, warm, and delicious! Important tip: You need to book in advance (I made my reservation a month in advance through the website and they charge a deposit), but it's 100% worth it. I highly recommend it and I will definitely be back! 🍲❤️

Unfortunately a horrible experience, while the food was good the service leaves something to be desired. We got our main meal 2 hrs after getting there and the explanation was that the kitchen lost our ticket even though we had been promptly served our starters. Not one server came to check on us and we had to try flag them down for a drink, which was hard as they were busy. I’m sure they really don’t care about this review because they are busy but attention to detail when people are spending their money at your restaurant should be a priority! The whole experience was a huge disappointment, especially after we booked this for our last night in Amsterdam and were very excited to go. We would not return or recommend to anyone. In response… we ordered at the same time as the table next to us and they had almost left by the time we got our meal…so no dining here doesn’t take this long.

Me and my partner came for dinner tonight food was great. The venue felt nice with cool style, and some great nostalgia with the dinner wear. Venue is a little cramped tho. Food was tasty and authentic but a bit basic. Overall enjoyed. Just a side note your menu online doesn't reciprocate what you use on site. Understandable that prices rise but needs to be changed on your website. Cost us abiut 10 euro more than we thought.

If you're in Amsterdam and want to try Dutch cuisine, you have to come here! The menu doesn't offer a huge selection, but all the dishes are traditional and tasty. The staff is truly friendly and attentive. The location is very charming and charming; in the summer, it's lovely to dine outside. The price is fair. We recommend the Stuffoot and the Dutch tasting platter.

Nice place to sit, but I really don't think €4.50 for about 100–120 ml of orange juice is proportionate. When I pointed this out, all I was told was that it is “always like that”. A shame.

I ate well at Moeders. Partner’s fish, however, was too salty and when we mentioned this to the waiter, he never came back to us with a comment from the kitchen. In any case, we enjoyed sitting outside on this hot summer day with nice cold beers.

We found this place via a recommendation that was in our hotel room for traditional Dutch food. The presentation of the food and the dishes was not something I can recommend. The place is nice and the staff and ambiance are also not bad. Just don't order the traditional Dutch dishes. Potatoes were raw or overcooked, the cabbage soup or whatever it was was lukewarm and inedible even with mustard. We waited 45 minutes for the dishes that looked like something from a bad cafeteria heated in the microwave

Meh....I will not go back! Food is marginal. Overcrowded and no AC!!!

Everything was incredible, the food was spectacular, where you can try the best of typical Dutch dishes, in a unique and different setting. Moders means mother in Dutch and is a tribute to all those mothers who have fed us or continue to feed us.

Moeders was delicious. It brought so many memories of my Dutch mom's cooking - growing up in the US, I relived some of my childhood through this dinner. I was fortunate to share the experience with my sister and our families. The split pea soup was just like my mom used to make it, and there were dishes that we had that I forgot about! Of course we had to share the Apple cake for dessert, even though we were full, and it was very tasty. The service was friendly and welcoming. We made a reservation in advance, and am so glad that I did, as they were turning people away who tried to walk in. The atmosphere is cozy and unique with the family photos filling the walls. I hope you enjoy your experience as much as my family and I did!

It is very important to book ahead (online) as this is a tourist favourite. They also require a deposit and charge for no-shows. I wouldn't risk trying to do a walk-in. I first tried this restaurant 15 years ago. 15 years later, the food matches with what I remember. It's hearty and straightforward food. It's a good representation of traditional Dutch food as far as I know. Although there were 3 types of potato's included, they all tasted different. One was roasted, one was roughly mashed with chunks still present, and one had sauerkraut mixed in. The beef stews were very savoury. The apple and cabbage provided much needed contrast. The room itself is very cool and has lots of character. Overall, I'd temper your expectations regarding flavours as it's very straight forward and comforting food. There are no exotic spices or sauces used really. You'll enjoy the experience if you go in with that mindset!

Very pleased with my time here. It was so busy when I rolled up. They still made time and effort to accommodate me and treat me well. Food was most excellent. Glad I stopped here. Lets give Eva a raise! She deserves it!

There's one place you absolutely must visit to experience Dutch cuisine and Amsterdam's warm hospitality. This charming spot absolutely requires a reservation. The cuisine, including the famous rijsttafel, is a local institution. The service is efficient and always with a smile. The prices are reasonable. A perfect experience.

The place was full of photos; we ordered the sharing menu, which I think was €22 per person. The desserts were very good. If you book online, they require a deposit (€40 in our case), which they refund if you cancel. We went anyway.

We were lucky to have Finn as our "waitress". She was telling us the story behind the name Moeders, turns out her father is the owner! It's always nice at Moeders', but unfortunately the stew wasn't as tasty as usual. The meat was fatty, the potatoes were too hard, and the gravy too watery. A shame.

Order the house specialties, they're great. If you're not very hungry, the soups are excellent and not watery. The service is fast but a bit chaotic, but acceptable on a Saturday night. I recommend making a reservation; I arrived without one and got a table on the condition that I could vacate it in an hour.

The atmosphere, service quality, and meze platters were truly superb. The ribs were a bit dry, but the portion was very large. We were very satisfied. Highly recommended, with reservations required.

Recommended by the bartender at Mövenpick Amsterdam, and what a recommendation Moeders was! Even though the kitchen was already closed, Boet kindly made sure we had fries because we didn’t want to enjoy our beer on an empty stomach. Such a thoughtful gesture! The croquettes were delicious, the Mama Blond beer was one of the best we’ve had, and the desserts—the Dutch apple pie and stroopwafel ice cream—were absolutely top class. To make the evening even more special, the team celebrated the end of the day with us by sharing a shot of Juttertje, a traditional herbal liqueur from the north of the Netherlands. Such a warm and memorable touch! A big thank you to Boet and the whole team for the incredible hospitality. Amazing food, amazing people, and definitely worth the cheating calories! 🤣 Highly recommended.

It's a Dutch restaurant. The waiters are excellent, the table service is fast, and the average price is €25.00 per person. We were served without a reservation, but they told us we could stay until 9:00 PM, as they normally only accept reservations. I found the decor exotic, and the space between tables was quite limited for the number of people. It's a fairly busy place.

An unforgettable experience in Amsterdam and a visit to this popular restaurant

On our last night in Amsterdam we needed to try Dutch food. Their special starter was carpaccio, which was excellent! For our meal, we shared the rice dish which was way too much food for two people but each dish was wonderful. We are so happy we tried the traditional food here before leaving the country. They also have great gluten free beer!

Absolutely fabulous meal and dining experience. We were greeted and served by the grand-daughter of the original Moeder. She was lovely, the service was fabulous, and the food was amazing! Make sure you come hungry, because the portions are VERY generous and VERY tasty!

This was my husband’s and my first dinner in Amsterdam! The Hacée and the stamppot are heaven! I love the plates are mismatched and have been for decades! Reading the menu was fun! We dropped off our little frame with our mothers in it. The server originally asked us to place it wherever we see fit, but the owner (she has the manager vibe) came over and helped us picked an even better spot! Service was what I thought was slow, but then we learned that Dutch people are very customer-focused, so we had to initiate an eye contact and signal to them that we are ready to close our check. I also found out that tipping is not required. Who would have thought? Oh, and also water is not free. Lastly, be sure to make a reservation because this place very packed for the duration of our meal and some people got turned away.

A small, cozy restaurant with a retro vibe. The tables are very small and close together. Due to some error, our food took over 45 minutes, but apparently this was an unusual occurrence because the rest of the tables were served on time. This didn't bother us too much since the atmosphere was warm and the service was excellent. However, the food wasn't anything spectacular as we had hoped—ordinary, without much preparation or any particularly noteworthy flavors. I wouldn't return.

This is about as "authentic" as authentic gets as far as real Dutch cuisine goes. Extremely busy place, Id say harried. But staff seems to buck up with smiling faces. There are literally thousands of photos on the wall of, what else, Mothers!! If your looking for the "real deal", look no further!!!

It was packed, Friday evening at 6:30 pm. Despite this, we managed to snag a table. A great idea with the mothers, they're real heroines! Friendly and good service. We ordered the mixed specialty platter, Dutch specialties for two. Very tasty. We were both more than full. The only real downside is that without a warming plate, the food gets cold faster, or perhaps it should be served a little hotter. Reservations are recommended.

We loved this restaurant! The decoration creates an atmosphere of love. The walks are adorned with the pictures of moms, donated by patrons of Moeders. The staff was so friendly, especially our server Britta. The good was excellent. We’re really glad we got the apple tart dessert!

Fantastic food - beef stew, ribs and sides. Ate here twice, both seated outside as we had no reservations. But the experience was still great despite the sweltering heat. Especially our 2nd visit where we had the best service from a short hair lady. She offered water at the start and some Dutch wine, all on the hse 😘 thank you Mothers for the hospitality 😍
