Nice place to land after our bike ride across the beautiful island (Hollum-Oerd-Hollum, battery dead). Cozy seating areas, great lunch, nice village. Hope to see you again!

Our first evening on Ameland. We simply had a delicious meal. The atmosphere was great; we sat outside by a cozy fire. The service was also super friendly. We had a wonderful evening.

A barely passing grade. To stick to school terms. The mustard soup was too thick. It tasted like pea soup. The duck breast fillet was too dry. A real shame. I did get the dessert menu but didn't order it because the waitstaff had disappeared.

A lovely, quiet restaurant in Hollum. We were there with three children, two adults, and a dog. The service was very friendly and attentive. My wife, a vegetarian, absolutely loved the falafel salad. The portion was huge! I had mustard soup and fish stew. Delicious and very generous portions. I also enjoyed the house beer, which I highly recommend. We finished our meal with a Griffeltje, their homemade herbal liqueur. We'll definitely be back.

Even though the small menu was no longer available but was still on the table, we were able to order a bread board and satay. After a brief consultation with the kitchen, our order could proceed. The bread board was okay. Unfortunately, the satay order consisted of only one skewer and the sauce was a bit watery. In terms of taste, the satay was fine.

Disappointingly, the food and drinks were rather ordinary. The iced coffee wasn't cold at all, and the whipped cream overflowed from the glass, dripping onto the plate and spoon. It wasn't a well-made beverage, and it wasn't cheap either.

A truly incredibly tasty fried egg, really delicious. The service is very friendly. And the meringue pastry...? You would go back to Ameland just for that; it is that good, truly fantastic.

Have been a guest several times. Varying experiences. The food is excellent. The service is questionable. The tables vary, from good to bad. Lunch is excellent and always pleasant. Haven't been for a couple of years due to being denied entry during the corona period. I still hold that against them.

Simply a fantastic place. Located in Hollum. Lovely atmosphere, super friendly staff. And the food was absolutely delicious. We had the pike dish. It was beautifully presented with lots of side dishes. Excellent value for money!

The restaurant is comfortably furnished and the atmosphere is pleasant. The service was adequate, though not particularly attentive or warm. Unfortunately, the food was a huge disappointment. The fish was extremely greasy and oily, the meat was also very fatty and practically tasteless. The fries weren't cooked through properly and seemed more half-cooked than crispy. For dessert, we had poffertjes. These seemed as if they had simply been heated up from a pre-packaged mix – they weren't even properly warm and bore little resemblance to freshly made poffertjes. Overall, we felt the restaurant was not at all good value for money. A nice ambiance alone isn't enough when the food quality is so disappointing. Therefore, we unfortunately cannot recommend this restaurant.

What a wonderful experience at De Griffel. The food was truly fantastic and the presentation on the plates looked beautiful. The dishes were prepared with care and tasted excellent. The combination with the fresh cherry tomatoes was particularly successful. The Meester Beer in the distinctive glass was also an excellent choice to accompany dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere and the quality. Highly recommended for everyone in Hollum.

I think this student failed miserably. A glassy stew with a super dry, limp piece of naan bread. The side dishes, such as rhubarb compote, slimy chicory, and potato garnish, were straight out of my mother's kitchen from 1976—unavoidable and absolutely no match for the dishes we ordered. I don't understand the glowing reviews, but an ‘exam,’ as they often say at school, is merely a snapshot. Maybe next time will be better, but for us, it's certainly not a resit.

On Saturday evening, during the football match, we were assigned a nice table. The food was good, but quite pricey. The website indicated that a disabled toilet was available, but upon arrival, it turned out not to be there. The service was prompt.

Although we hadn't made a reservation and the restaurant was very busy on a Saturday evening, they still found a table for us. Our dog was also welcome. The staff was really friendly and attentive. The food, in my case (mixed grill), was very good and more than enough. My wife wasn't quite as happy with her choice of pasta with spinach. Nevertheless, we would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Nice restaurant in an old school building, which is also reflected in an original way on the menu. Very pleasant and welcoming service and delicious food at a great price, nice portions and well-prepared meat. Visited again in April 2026; the food is still good and the delicious Oma Mina Weizenbier is lovely. The tagliatelle was very tasty; as far as I'm concerned, the portion could even be a little smaller! The side dishes are varied, flavorful, and original compared to most restaurants, as is the bread board!

Great restaurant for delicious food. Unfortunately, there's less flexibility here when allergens need to be excluded. The choices are then very limited, and there was little consideration. It's not a big deal, but please let us know when you make your reservation. Then we'll have a choice.

We dined here together on Christmas Eve, and what an evening it was. In the soft light and tranquil atmosphere, I started with pork belly as a starter, followed by ap noot mies (a Dutch pastry) as a main course—flavors that linger in your memory. My sweetheart enjoyed salmon twice, both as a starter and with the main course, and every bite was pure indulgence. It was a genuine pleasure to eat here. For the first time, it felt like I was going back to school, but in the most beautiful way: learning by tasting, experiencing, and savoring. A lesson I'll never forget. So school can be fun after all. And this is a place I'd love to return to often, together ❤️

Delicious daily menu with venison stew, mashed potatoes, red cabbage, and other side dishes. Salmon tartare with a delicious side dish was the starter. All served by extremely friendly staff. If we ever visit the island again, we'll definitely be back!

A former colleague referred me to De Griffel, which has great food. He didn't say anything wrong. Good service, nice atmosphere, and I think they have some top chefs there. The rhubarb was delicious, and Mies's "ape nut" was excellent; the plate was completely empty. For dessert, we had the strawberry Romanov. Highly recommended if you're on Ameland.

A very nice café in an old school. Dogs are welcome. The cake was amazing. The cocktails are also highly recommended! Espresso Martini—delicious!!! It's a bit off the beaten track and quieter here. There are two very nice shops across the street.

We dine here once or twice a year. In recent years, we've been going for Aap, Noot, Mies, a mixed grill. It's impressive that the restaurant has remained so successful for so many years. It was delicious again!

The service was poor. Drinks arrived, but the apple pie didn't arrive. Seven guests who arrived right after us left empty-handed. They didn't pay attention to the guests.

We went there twice during our vacation for coffee and cake. Apple pie, of course :-) Very cozy outdoor area. In bad weather, they even had rain gear and a few small open-air fire pits to keep it from getting cold. Unfortunately, we couldn't eat, but what we saw looked delicious. And from what we heard, it was also very good. I highly recommend a visit.

My review may be somewhat subjective, as I didn't dine here, but only had drinks with the family, accompanied by some snacks. The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere. However, the staff seemed rather unenthusiastic at the time, or at least, that's how it came across. We ordered mint tea, hot chocolate with whipped cream, apple pie, and cheesecake. My daughter wanted something savory and opted for a portion of olives. She really enjoyed them, especially because they had a kind of pesto on them. The so-called cheesecake, however, turned out to be more like a curd cake, with red berries, a hint of chocolate, and a Bastogne biscuit base. It was perfectly edible, but definitely not a traditional cheesecake and certainly not plain – even though the menu simply lists homemade cheesecake. Frankly, I found that disappointing. It would have been better to simply list it as curd cake or something similar on the menu.
