The restaurant is lovely, and the welcome was warm. The meal was frankly very good. The only downside was that we were seated near the door, so when people opened it, we got a blast of wind (I had to eat in my coat).

I had a lovely evening meal at De Italian (28th Oct 2025). Its a relaxed, cosy and inviting restaurant and the staff were welcoming. A gem in the area.

Nice place. Really chill and comfortable. Menu was in some foreign language and wasn’t translated properally in English. Had real Italian food on the menu tho, but I felt like it was missing some classics, carbonara, lasagne ect. Food was good tho

We had a bite to eat here on our way to the Melkweg. Nice decor and fast service. The food was a bit disappointing, with rather thin pizzas, especially considering the price.

Delicious pizzas and a cozy atmosphere

15 euros for one (!) slice of bruschetta and a much-overpriced pasta dish that I make better at home. We also had to wait over an hour for it, so we had to rush to get to the theater on time. Don't fall for it, folks, mediocre food at tourist prices. What a shame!

The coziest place! Dim light, not noisy, casual, no pressure vibe. Great food! Very tasty pastas and desserts! Wine recommendation was perfect and overall staff was very accommodating – they've offered us multiple ways to make some dishes vegan and adjust ingredients. Definitely coming back.

We had a very tasty, fresh pasta Regina and pizza De Italiaan. Everything was of good quality and met our expectations. The terrace on a lively street is a lovely, atmospheric spot. We made a reservation in advance, and the reservation fee was neatly deducted from our invoice.

Our experience was unbeatable. We recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic Italian food. We ordered various pastas and pizzas, and everything was top-notch. The service was also six-star. They resolved a mistake we made when booking, opened a part of the restaurant that's usually closed, and we ate in a private, warm, and very comfortable setting. My favorites: primi di mare and tiramisu. Thank you all so much, and we apologize for the inconvenience.

This was a fantastic find in Amsterdam, as we have three coeliacs in our family of 5. The waiter was very reassuring when he explained how they provide gluten free food safely for coeliacs. They are able to provide all pizzas as GF (and the same size as regular pizzas). They can provide almost all pasta dishes (just not the stuffed pastas). We had the special pasta Al ragu, the pizza Da Italiaan, and a few different ham pizzas. They were all delicious! For dessert, around 1/3 are made GF - we had GF ice cream, tiramisu, panna cotta and canolli. All were very tasty. The servers were all kind and friendly to us tourists/English speakers. The restaurant is in a pretty neighborhood, so it was lovely to sit on the terrace and people-watch while eating. We highly recommend Da Italiaan!

Delicious food in a casual atmosphere

The three of us had a wonderful meal. My all-time favorite Pizza Diavola was superb. The ladies had good pasta, but in my opinion, the portions were a bit too small. The service could use some improvement. But everything was fine.

We loved our meal in De Italiaan. We enjoyed the Menu Cucina - 4 courses of surprises and great flavours. It has very pretty outside terrace seating in a quiet residential street in Amsterdam. Service was excellent - friendly & knowledgeable. Definitely recommend. Can book table online.

Great food and great atmosphere, but the wine was awful. How can you serve bad wine when you run an Italian restaurant?

Quite a disappointing experience. I decided to give this place another try since it’s often busy, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations. We ordered the pasta, which was incredibly bland—almost as if the chef hadn’t tasted it. I had to request cheese and salt just to make it edible, only to find out later that I was charged €2.50 for them, without any prior notice. On top of that, they charged €1.50 for tap water. There wasn’t even a spoon provided for the pasta, which made eating it awkward. When I mentioned the issues to the staff, nothing was done—they simply shrugged it off. Overall, the food was flavorless, the service indifferent, and the charges unreasonable. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Delicious pizza and great terrace!

Bonito lugar con comida sorprendentemente buena a precios razonables. Pedí bruchetta y un plato de pasta con una cerveza, compartido para dos por 38 euros. La cerveza costaba 6 euros. Bruschetta 7 , 5 euros. Flavorful. Buen ambiente. Llegamos sin reservas a las 6 un viernes y nos sentamos, pero nos dijeron que tenían reservas para nuestra mesa a las 7:15. Hubo mucho tiempo para comer y disfrutar del área. Volveré.

Nice restaurant on a side street just outside the old town of Amsterdam. We were able to sit outside, it was warm enough. Attentive service. You are placed. The tables are cramped, but still OK. Every table is needed. In Amsterdam it is generally not cheap. Not here either. We ordered pizza. Nice thin dough. We like that. The surface left a lot to be desired. We wouldn't come back, but that's our subjective opinion.

Gluten free pizza was very hard and they seem to be good with allergies but I had a bad reaction. So just make sure you tell them you’re celiac I should have done that

Extremely poor service. Of course, you may occasionally serve coffee with spoiled milk, but at least apologize. Downright rude how this waitress did her job of which this was certainly the low point. A shame, because the restaurant looks nice and the food was also ok.

The gamberi pasta didn't have any gamberi. 25€ of disappointment.

honestly one of the worst italian i have ever tasted really cannot recommend super expensive and not worth it, totally unauthentic i don’t think they know what ragu means 😂 also the service was really not great

Unfortunately, this was not the experience we expected. The service was not good, we were not asked if we wanted anything to drink for the entire time we were there (2.5 to 3 hours). So we spent the entire time with water, which just comes from the tap and is not free. Waitress didn't come by either so we couldn't speak to her. The starters are mediocre, very few and very expensive. two slices of bread with melted cheese for €7. Everything around us was also tidied up and cleaned while we were still there. Tables and chairs cleared away, etc. And if you want extra arugula you pay 1.50!!!! Yes, sorry, that's not normal, is it? Waitress is probably very nice but kept laughing awkwardly with us and it was just a bit crazy. Pizza order was also wrong and therefore I had to wait longer. No oil with the sandwiches and just very sparse. Pizza was quite tasty in the end, but some pieces were very sour (due to lemon juice I think?) and the tomatoes were cold… All in all not very hospitable and I will not come back here again. Shame…

We came to eat today, the staff was really kind and the place was immaculately clean. The food was delicious, my partner and I we always eat gluten free, and they have a lot of options, and really tasty! We are really happy with the service and the food, we will repeat soon sure!

It was lovely. Really nice authentic food. Cheese and meat platter with sausage and cheese. I had gluten free pizza which was pretty good. The normal pizza was judged better at the table of course but fur gluten free I was very happy. Toppings are good quality and fresh. Service very friendly. Dessert and digestive were lovely

De Italiaan is a cozy and accessible Italian restaurant in the Bosboom Toussaintstraat. The attractive interior and warm red walls create an inviting ambiance. We shared a pizza and a pasta, both prepared with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. The friendly service and the open kitchen with wood-burning oven complete the experience.

We were on our way to a wonderful five-star experience: the food was delicious, the atmosphere cozy and the service friendly. After our dessert, just when we were considering ordering another wine, we were suddenly presented with the bill, together with the ATM. “I need this table,” the waitress said urgently. She even stood next to our table waiting for us to get up so she could wipe the table clean and consolidate it for a larger group. We quickly finished our glasses and left. Definitely not the end to the beautiful evening we had in mind—but with a bitter aftertaste. Very unfortunate.

An Italian with gluten-free pizza.🍕 Nice location, the selection is small but sufficient. The gluten free pizza wasn't quite as big compared to the regular one. The soil was quite greasy and very thin. I've eaten better ones. Topping, however, was very tasty. My friend had a regular pizza and was very impressed.

I went here with my boyfriend. We didnt book a table but we got lucky by getting a table next to the window. We both got a pizza and honestly the best gluten free pizza ive eaten. Couldn’t recommend this place enough. The atmosphere was so cozy with the dim lighting and candles.

Long a favorite in the Helmersbuurt. Lovely terrace in the summer. My favorite remains pizza Boscaiola. The antipasti is also great!

Small charming place, with a fairly large terrace, better to book. But the truth is that we went on the adventure without reserving 3 people and they were able to put us in a bar that they have, the truth is that we had a comfortable dinner. Having problems with gluten, I had options there and they were very delicious. We went at night and it was very beautiful. The truth is that the quality and service was very good. We would have repeated another night but it closed early.

Food was decent, service a bit slow. Ordered ravioli but got penne instead for the ravioli price.... That to me is absolutely not done in a decent Italian restaurant. As a famous chef would say, a total s... show.

De pasta was slecht en de prijs kwaliteit verhouding was echt niet oké. Het was net of we bij een heel goedkope Italiaan zaten maar dan de hoofdprijs moesten betalen. Jammer want het is een leuke plek en de bediening was vriendelijk.

Their best dishes: truffle pasta & pizza boscaiola. I've had almost all the pizzas and pastas on the menu and these 2 really stood out. The rest was honestly a bit boring or not tasty enough. I would definitely advise against the starters. Furthermore, it was a nice place to sit and the staff was nice. We chose the restaurant because someone is gluten intolerant.

24€ voor de Pasta Con Carne was veel te duur. Super klein portie dat in 4 happen weg is. Daarnaast bijna geen vlees en vooral pasta aanwezig.
