De Veranda in Buitenveldert-West

We booked lunch at De Veranda for 14:00 for my birthday. We indicated the birthday in the reservation and, as specifically requested during booking, also informed the restaurant of two allergies in our group: gluten and garlic. As we were a group of 9, we had a limited menu, which we completely understood and had no issue with. Unfortunately, almost everything else about the experience was disappointing. The service was genuinely some of the worst I have experienced in the Netherlands. And to put that into context: I have lived here for 9 years. I am very familiar with the general level and style of Dutch restaurant service, so my expectations are realistic. This was well below that. Almost immediately after we sat down, we were asked what we wanted to drink, before we’d really had a chance to look. After saying we needed a moment, getting our server’s attention again became an ongoing challenge. I had to repeatedly wave and actively try to catch her attention to order drinks, ask for menus, order food, and later ask for the bill. The restaurant was not particularly busy. When ordering, we again mentioned the allergies and specifically asked for confirmation that the burger did not contain garlic. We never received that confirmation. Another person in our group explicitly ordered their meal without cheese. It arrived with cheese, and when we pointed this out, the reaction seemed to be an expectation that they would simply accept it anyway. We had to insist that the meal be replaced with what was actually ordered. Then the food arrived in batches. Three of nine people received their meals first. Around 5–10 minutes later, a few more arrived, and the burgers came another 5–10 minutes after that. This left some people eating while others were still waiting, or sitting with food getting cold. For a group already ordering from a limited menu, I really don’t understand why the meals couldn’t be coordinated better. Unfortunately, the food didn’t redeem the experience. Most dishes were €17+ without a side, the portions were small enough that several of us were still hungry afterwards, and the quality did not justify the price. The bread on the brisket was so thin that calling it a sandwich felt generous, and the burger patty was extremely dry. The best thing we ate was probably the fries. My friends had made me a birthday cake and we asked whether we could serve it. We were told we could, for €2.50 per person because we hadn’t arranged it beforehand. Fair enough, that part is on us, although after the experience we’d had by that point it certainly didn’t add much goodwill. Finally, I asked for the bill because we were ready to leave. Instead of bringing it, our server proceeded to completely clear and clean the entire table while we sat there waiting and watching. Only after she had finished did she bring the bill. After spending the entire lunch struggling to get her attention, it was an almost comical end to the experience. The terrace is lovely. Unfortunately, that is about the only positive thing I can say. For the price, the food was lacklustre, the portions were disappointing, and the service was truly horrendous. A birthday lunch we were looking forward to became a restaurant experience none of us would want to repeat.

The wheelchair accessibility is a sham. With the ramp that is too steep, you just have to figure out how to get in yourself. Staff just stand by and watch. Fortunately, a dining guest was helpful. The route to the toilet, a high threshold, and once again, staff just watching. Help has to be explicitly requested. A compliment for the disabled toilet, though. Afterwards, again no help at the exit and a waiter just watching, who reacted unfriendly and only came to our aid when we tried to open the gate the wrong way. The food was not great. Hollandaise sauce with a skin on top, undercooked baked potatoes, small portions. No, not a next time for us. I sent this review to De Veranda last week and have not received a single response to date. Service is actually a 0, but unfortunately, that cannot be filled in.

Especially when the weather is nice, there is a fantastic terrace here with a view of the Bosbaan. The Bao bun is super tasty. Vegetarian, but very well seasoned.

Just having a shot, white wine too sour, o.o cava not good. Bitterballen okay.

We had last night a reservation for 3 people and had to work hard the whole evening to get attention from the waiter. We ordered a tasting menu and were after quite some wait told that the starter is not available, and then the same with a desert with relatively basic replacements provided (eg ice cream for desert). We gave the waiter a 15 euro tip but they really didn’t deserve it. Would not come again.

The Thai chicken was really delicious, perfectly seasoned and well prepared. It's just a shame that the portions have gotten a bit smaller over the years, but otherwise there is little to complain about. The service was friendly and the atmosphere cozy. The prices are reasonable for this quality – definitely a place I would gladly return to!

Nice spot by the Amsterdam Forest. Had a drink with my son. Large terrace. It's a shame that only a few tables were in the sun. Reasonably priced.

Big disappointment. We had heard they served pastries from Holtkamp, ​​so we chose this restaurant for a stopover with our group of 11. We waited 10 minutes before we were finally served (it wasn't busy and there were 5 staff). A tiny piece of soggy lemon meringue for €8 and the famous apple pie was still frozen. We sent this back, after which it was re-served 10 minutes later, half runny and still half ice-cold. Also €8.

I’ve spent time reflecting on whether what we experienced was simply cultural differences in hospitality expectations, but ultimately, good service transcends culture. Human empathy, accountability, and care are foundational to any successful hospitality business — especially one rated 4.2 stars. Unfortunately, our experience was deeply disappointing from start to finish. We ordered two burgers, and it took nearly two hours for the food to arrive. During the service, the waiter spilled an entire bottle of drink across our table, brought the wrong drinks, and ultimately even delivered the wrong meal order. What stood out most was not the mistakes themselves — mistakes happen — but the complete lack of meaningful apology, accountability, or effort to make the situation right or make us feel comfortable as guests. The final frustration came when both my partner’s and my U.S. credit cards were repeatedly rejected. Instead of considering that there may have been an issue with the payment gateway accepting foreign cards, Arjen immediately shifted blame toward us, insisting our cards were the problem because his machine “worked.” For context, the cards were from Capital One and Chase — two of the largest financial institutions in the world — and worked perfectly elsewhere throughout our travels. As international travelers trying to appreciate Dutch culture and hospitality, the entire interaction felt dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational rather than solution-oriented. To make matters worse, the bill came out to roughly $104 USD for two extremely mediocre burgers and drinks — honestly below the quality you’d expect from many fast food restaurants. Hospitality is not just about food. It’s about care, accountability, communication, and making guests feel welcomed. Sadly, this experience failed on all fronts.

I thought: this is going to be another one of those evenings where you need more patience than a Buddhist monk with ADHD. But oh no... BAM, everything ran smoothly. Order in, food out, as if the kitchen runs on Red Bull. And it was tasty too, truly ridiculously tasty. The service? So friendly that for a moment I thought: these must be escaped Disney cast members working undercover here. A smile and I instantly forgot all my childhood traumas. In short: De Veranda is not a restaurant, this is therapy with a menu. You leave with a full stomach and the feeling that the world makes sense after all. And that is dangerous... because now I expect this everywhere.

The food was good, but the service was a bit slow. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a good atmosphere. So why only two stars? At the end of the evening, we saw a small mouse scurrying between the tables, and we were a bit concerned about the safety of the food.

We popped into De Veranda last night because we were in dire straits with car trouble. We received a very warm welcome from the entire team. Thank you again for that. We'll definitely be back!

A great spot for a tasty lunch. No culinary high-flyers, just excellent. We had the house special (flatfish with black pasta and vegetables). Fries had to be ordered separately. Everything was delicious. Could have used a little less butter under the fish. Desserts were delicious but the selection was a bit limited. All in all, a good price. We were very satisfied.

What a beautiful little café! The atmosphere was quiet and intimate, perfect for a moment to yourself. The coffee was exceptionally good and clearly made with care. I had a slice of lemon tart with it, which tasted light and refreshing. The service was friendly and offered helpful suggestions. The interior was filled with plants, creating a natural and relaxing atmosphere. It almost felt like I was in a little oasis in the middle of the city. I appreciated the soothing background music and the fact that I could read undisturbed. It's a place I'll definitely return to again.

We discovered this restaurant by chance three years ago, near the Spa Wellness Hotel, and we returned for dinner with great pleasure. Just like the first time, we were charmed by the warm and friendly atmosphere. The dishes are delicious and beautifully presented, and the servers are incredibly kind—truly wow! The cozy setting gives the impression of dining with family, with a cheerful and lively background music. An address we wholeheartedly recommend and where we will definitely return on our next trip to Amsterdam.

Great place! First of all, the staff was incredibly friendly and genuine. We were a little skeptical because of some reviews (that there was too much vegetarian and fish on the menu). This is completely untrue. Whether you're a carnivore, vegetarian, or fish lover, you can have a wonderful meal here. It's definitely not your typical meal; there's a real chef in the kitchen who creates a beautiful meal, and delicious too. The atmosphere was great, and the price was very reasonable for people who don't live in the Zuidas area! 🤓 Highly recommended.

The food is very tasty and the presentation of dishes is exquisite. They do not skimp on quality products. Many people in the evening, it is advisable to book in advance.

We dine out less often because, since we started buying ethically sourced meat directly from the farmer, we're often disappointed and find that we eat better at home with authentic recipes. At De Veranda, we were pleasantly surprised, just like in the old days! Deliciously balanced dishes, without overwhelming flavors, but with subtle discoveries. And all at great prices, without hyperinflation, in a relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic!

I went to De Veranda Amstelveen with a friend, and we had a fantastic evening. We had made a reservation and were immediately greeted warmly. The service was attentive, and the food and drinks arrived quickly. We opted for the two-course menu, which was truly delicious – I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friend thought the presentation could have been a bit more elegant, but for us, that didn't detract from the taste or the experience at all. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed and cozy. A nice detail: the receipt even had a personal note from the server on it, something I'd never seen before. A truly original touch that made it extra special. In short, highly recommended! I'll definitely be back.

We visited here twice , the environment is good. But the food itself is way too overpriced … the first time here, the spaghetti is so soft like noodle, And this time, the steak cost 3x euro , however, the one you bought from supermarket is way better quality than this one, I ordered medium rare, which is for surly not medium rare ….. but yes, their starter is good, but main course is way too bad sadly

Early lunch appointment at 11:00. We were seated on the front patio; the back patio wasn't open yet. Service was spotty, but the food was okay. The place feels a bit worn; our sofa cushion was completely torn. And that Pepsi instead of Coca-Cola is always a disappointment.

Two of us came here without a reservation and got a table right away. The service was friendly, but could have been more attentive. The food was delicious, although the variety of flavors on the plate sometimes took a bit of getting used to. All in all, though, it's a good restaurant.

Lovely terrace, friendly service. A bit pricey, though. But people: at 2025, only one vegetarian option per course (and both starters and mains with eggplant, so if you don't eat that, you're really out of luck) is truly embarrassing.

A really nice terrace to have drinks on a warm evening. If you’re lucky you’ll get one of the booths facing the water. But regardless, it’s a big terrace with plenty of space between tables.

Arrived on time with a reservation. Asked to sit outside until a table was free (I did have a reservation, right?), and then after an hour asked if something was wrong to be told that they had forgotten us and could not apologize for it. Very unpleasant.

The veranda! Nice place! Friendly staff. The two of us had dinner. But we quickly noticed that the staff was a bit unprofessional. We think that maybe a manager was missing that evening. The girls were everywhere, from singing and dancing on the terrace to shouting and laughing through the microphones in the ears. Don't get me wrong, fun is part of it. But this was too much, which made the service really considerably less and you felt the discomfort. Ordered tartare, this kram brown, they solved this well by serving a new one. The food was otherwise a big fine.
