De Zwarte Vosch Pinchobar & Tapasrestaurant in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

The various tapas and pinchos are delicious, and there is something for everyone. Both the red sangria and the cava-based one are delightful. This time, we were seated upstairs near the entrance, and as a result, we kept missing out whenever the waitstaff arrived with off-menu pinchos, because they had either just run out or there was only one left (for our party of four). When we asked the friendly waiter to start his route in reverse next time, he did so immediately, and fortunately, all four of us were able to enjoy the warm pinchos. I enjoy coming here, but I must honestly admit that the acoustics are really problematic. It is very noisy and therefore less suitable for couples or a business dinner. For groups of friends or family, however, it is perfectly suitable, as long as the sangria (and the delicious chardonnay, which we also ordered) flows freely. A tip for the owner: instruct your staff to stop using the overused "are you familiar with our concept?" Just ask your guests if they have been here before, and if not, tell them about the three ways to get the delicious tapas and pinchos. I received an invitation to write this review a day after my visit, and I would love to see that my feedback has been taken to heart the next time I come here.

It was a lovely experience, I went there when it was 30 degrees outside and we were able to sit canal side to get a bit of a breeze, however the restaurant on the inside is also quit chill. We ordered some plates which came at various times and they were all quite lovely. We had a bit of the pinchos as well.

The food was delicious! Nice concept with good tapas and waitstaff who came around with pinchos for us to choose from. The service was very friendly and fast. We enjoyed sitting outside by the canal. It was very nice that my reservation was linked to a table outside.

It was simply delicious! My guests were enthusiastic too. It is nice that hot and cold pinchos are offered alongside the menu, and especially that they come around with the hot pinchos. It is a surprise. It was noisy, though, but you forget about that after a while. (However, not everyone will like that).

Here you can order 4, 6 or 8 chef's choice cold pinchos which they will then bring to your table, or you can choose them yourself at the bar out of a choice of 10-12. They walk around every half an hour with hot pinchos, you can then take (or not). Alternatively you can do tapas to order. The cold pinchos were mostly great, the hot ones were mostly ok. Great seating at the canal, with the afternoon/evening sun until about 19.30 (August).

Great selection of Spanish Tapas, Much better than the other locations in Utrecht who tries to serve Spanish tapas. I will be back for sure!! Try the fried Aubergine, FOODGASM 😁

The Zwarte Vosch has the best Pincho's and Tapas in town. It's the only restaurant I commonly recommend people go to. It's a little pricey and can be busy at peak hours, but it's definitely worthwhile.

Atmospheric place; reservations are a must. It was busy. Food was okay. Didn't find the value for money optimal. A plate of shrimp was €15 p.p. Normally you can choose from various dishes, but there were no potatoes, salad, etc. So a bit of a meager selection in my opinion. The cold tapas with the colored sticks and price indications is a nice touch ;).

Beautiful day, good food. The food was very tasty, the sticky beef fingers were finger-licking good, the bruschetta was delicious, the steak and chicken burger were well cooked, and the fries were wonderfully crispy, not too salty. It's a shame we couldn't have dessert due to the time; we had 1 hour and 45 minutes. It was packed, so it took a bit longer. It wasn't the service's fault; they were working their socks off. Good company, nice spot by the water, what more could you ask for?

Very little walking around with new, warm, varied Pintchos. That is actually the concept, but it came down to us mostly having to order from the menu and look in the display case upstairs. It was okay, but I had expected a bit more.

Stunning place with upstairs and downstairs dining, beautiful location to sit outside along the river! We ordered some tapas from the menu along with a perfect Aperol spritz!!We The tapas we tried were the ribs Iberico pork boneless ribs which were really tasty, along with the meat balls, again awesome. They have a great concept serving pinchas, you can choose a range of cold items from the upstairs counter, waiters also bring round a variety on trays and you take what you fancy! Put the little sticks they come in a jar and you’re charged at the end! A great way to try a lovely variety of fresh local food!

Quite a long wait for food, otherwise great.

Sitting comfortably by the Oudegracht, watching the boats, we had a truly delicious meal at De Zwarte Vosch. Absolutely all the tapas and pinchos were creative, well-made, and simply very tasty. Our pinchos were a surprise selection, so unfortunately I’ve forgotten exactly what we ate, but there were works of art among them in terms of color, texture, taste, and presentation. Nothing to complain about; praise to the kitchen and the service. We will be going back again in a heartbeat.

My favorite restaurant, so it should be 5 stars. However: the website states that you cannot reserve the terrace by the canal. But I have already experienced twice that you come across free tables outside with a reservation board, or when you ask if you can sit there, you are told that the table is reserved. They then say that people called 10 minutes earlier to say they were on their way. So reserving at the last minute is possible; take advantage of that. But personally, I don't think it's very smart of them; it really fills up when the weather is nice.

Everything was great, delicious food and good service until they started serving food to a boat as well. After that, long wait times (well over 25 minutes for one tapas) and little attention. Even had to rush to a show because the bill took almost 20 minutes to settle. Do what you can and don't let in more guests than is feasible with the right service.

Nice concept; there is a fixed menu, but you can also choose snacks from a cold buffet. Additionally, they walk around with snacks that are not on the menu or the cold buffet. However, we didn't like 2 out of 4 of the dishes on the menu. Perhaps we just ordered the wrong things.

It is my second time there. Last time we sat inside on the ground floor. We only had the pinchos. This time we sat outside by the canal and had a mix of pinchos and tapas. Nice atmosphere! The food is so delicious and surprising every time. Highly recommended!

One of my favorite restaurants in Utrecht!! We called last minute for a table for 3 people and were able to drink sangria at the bar first and then eat at a cozy table. Both the cold pinchos and the warm tapas that the staff circulates are very tasty. My absolute favorite is the halloumi with roasted chickpeas and lemon curd. Furthermore, I was also a big fan of the tuna empanada, the olives, and the squid croquettes with aioli. We finished our evening with a delicious espresso martini. Thanks for the service and the tasty food! 🤗

Disappointment. Our table was served by two staff members who did not communicate with each other. One immediately admitted knowing nothing about the menu when we asked for recommendations and allergen information. In a restaurant of this price range, I honestly find that ridiculous. The other had to keep going back and forth to the kitchen, but at least showed interest. I thought the pinchos were expensive; fine, but then you expect something in return. Subsequently, the pinchos were quite bland and lacked distinctive flavor. Then you have two staff members who ask for everything twice, asking for drinks while you just ordered from the other, and exactly the same with the food. Then there is a miscommunication (I was there with international friends) and they serve double the amount of what we had ordered on the menu. With the message 'I hope you are hungry' and insisting that everything had to be paid for. If you enter the order yourself, surely you can see that something is wrong and you can check that? Very strange. You could also properly instruct your staff yourself, explain the menu, and make one person responsible for a table instead of placing all the responsibility on your customer... I also just come for a nice evening, not to check everything regarding allergens and whether your staff communicates among themselves.

De Zwarte Vos is a peculiar establishment; we were received in a sort of angry manner. Although the staff were not amused that we dared to enter at 8:30, we were allowed to sit down. Once at the table, we ordered two beers; these had been smashed flat and were practically thrown onto the table. When we wanted to order a little later, we were advised not to order too much, because otherwise our food wouldn't fit on the table. That was strange, because there were still several larger tables available. Later, the still unfriendly wait staff came by with pintxos; that is supposed to be upselling, you just have to realize it, and it is apparently the “concept.” When the food was finally served, the next disappointment followed for us: the quality was incredibly poor. That is a shame, of course, but it can happen, you might say. So, full of optimism, we ordered a few more things. Unfortunately, things went from bad to worse, but the absolute low point was definitely the disgusting little cake in the photo. Without an explanation, you would almost make all sorts of assumptions about the substance; naturally, we did not receive that explanation. Despite that, we tasted it anyway; we really shouldn't have, because it was incredibly salty. Our advice is therefore to walk right past it!

The place has two floors, the one below the ground floor was more spacious. Food was super tasty, my personal favorite was the duck breast and the citrus-y sauce they served with it. Servers were friendly! They’d sometimes come up to each table to offer some pincho.

Great food, service and atmosphere !

There were five of us eating here. The pinchos and tapas were all delicious. The sangria with elderberry syrup and cava certainly added to the festive atmosphere, and the service was excellent. Highly recommended. Not cheap, but definitely worth the money.

Terrible service. Reserved weeks in advance. Beautiful weather. People without reservations were allowed to sit outside, while we were forced inside because we had reserved ‘inside’. Absolutely not customer-friendly. Two people were sitting at 4-person tables. They didn't even bother to move the table out of the way or make an effort for us. I am not going there again!

We had delicious snacks and wine, we were helped incredibly kindly, and the atmosphere is very cozy and warm.

Restaurant with delicious authentic food in the form of tapas and pinchos. There is something tasty for everyone, from meat and fish to vegetarian options. We were there on a Monday evening and it was completely full, which says it all. On the evening we were there, there was slightly less staff, which meant it took a little longer. However, the service was super friendly and they really did their best; a big thumbs up to them! I would definitely recommend this restaurant; it is highly recommended. Enjoy!

After a fantastic first experience, I went to eat at your place again yesterday full of enthusiasm, but I fear this was the last time. Unfortunately, we could only make a reservation at 8:15 PM; no problem for us, but apparently it was for the food and the staff. 1. The cold pinchos were almost sold out. Limited choice. When I asked why, I received a curt answer from a young lady who explained that they don't want to waste food and therefore had a smaller selection. Okay, good for the environment, but… I am a customer; a strange reaction. I pointed out: so if I come earlier in the future, there will be more choice; she didn't understand that remark and said it wasn't true. I was eventually able to order, but it wasn't done in a friendly manner. 2. The service downstairs was curt and very unfriendly. Food was "thrown" onto the table behind my back... which startled me. A stick that was still lying on the table was also "thrown" into the pot (over us). 3. Shrimp were sold out by 8:30 PM, and unfortunately, the tomato with burrata and tuna were too. 3. The Spanish waiter downstairs was fantastic and friendly and even tried to cheer us up and take us seriously. 4. Downstairs it echoed terribly; I followed entire conversations of a family 4 tables away. 4. In other words, part of the staff clearly didn't feel like working anymore at 9 p.m.

Enjoying ourselves. Especially when you can sit outside by the canal. We tend to eat a bit later, and a few times we had limited choices. (And we understand the decision not to order too many extra dishes at the end of the evening.) But fortunately, there are plenty of tasty things on the menu. The staff are always very friendly too! The wines are superb!

Seven people received a very warm welcome, without a reservation, which is unique in Utrecht, I think. We got a spot downstairs in the wharf cellar, delicious shared dining. It's so nice that you pay per pincho. I did find most of the pinchos quite greasy, but that might have been due to our choices. But even the tataki was too greasy, with that sauce on it. But hey, you didn't hear the rest of the group complaining; they loved it 😜

The food was delicious, good quality, but in our opinion, the price-quality ratio was uneven. Perhaps that would have been less of a problem if we'd had more time to eat. Around 9:30 PM, we were told that the last round of hot tapas had to be ordered, and shortly after, the cold tapas were also removed from the display case.

A really fun concept with a menu and service with spontaneous pinchos at the table. It lacks the delightfully chaotic atmosphere of a Spanish bar, but oh well... All the snacks are delicious and carefully prepared.

Overall a nice experience. But negative points were that our table was underneath the staircase and tight. But most of all the bathrooms were far from clean.

Nice concept, but if you keep the display case empty, it's not very appealing to order pinchos. The warm pinchos are almost all fried. If you sit downstairs, you also miss part of the concept. It's a shame, but maybe my expectations were too high. The patatas bravos and the wines were really delicious!

I have visited several times and will happily return again. The Spanish cuisine is consistently excellent, and the staff are attentive and welcoming on every visit.

It was new to me. So many different beers, both on tap and in bottles, that I'd never heard of before. A shelf like that with different beers is really fun and surprising. It turns out this isn't about Zwarte Vosch, but about Vandestreek, which is next door... Sorry, Zwarte Vosch... If I'm ever in the area, I'll come and eat at your place as a way to make up for it!

Definitely worth a visit if you're in Utrecht. It's a cozy restaurant with a wide selection of (incredibly delicious) shared-dining appetizers. There's also a variety of wines to choose from. The restaurant has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The service is friendly and simply excellent. Booking in advance is recommended.

Wonderful evening of drinks with family. Price-quality ratio is much better than the competition. Everything is fresh, no mini portions, and the concept where the waiters walk around with the pinchos and offer them is very nicely done.

This is just a magical place with a soul!! Right from the start you can feel the cozy atmosphere. The nicely waitresses welcomed us with a smile and made sure we felt at home. They were helpful and always showed up at the perfect moment. The varied menu turned an ordinary friendly dinner into a unique feast, full of rich flavors and beautiful colors. There was something amazing in every meal. An incredible adventure for the taste buds!! Chef Manuel took care of every detail of the prepared dish. He is very talented cook who makes people happy eating his meals. The quality is at a very high level, still at attractive prices. This place is definitely created by people with passion. We will come back :)

Iberico ribs and pork cheeks super tasty. Many other tasty dishes. Butttt....terrible tables. Downstairs terrible acoustics. Couldn't understand each other. Upstairs a bit better, but still very bad. But then again you had those high tables with uncomfortable chairs. I won't be back. Too bad actually, because the food was good.

We had a delicious meal last Sunday evening, which in our opinion was excellent value for money. It was not super busy but certainly not quiet either, so there was a good atmosphere: pleasant restaurant buzz and enough time for attentive service from the attentive two gentlemen serving. We sat at the bar and enjoyed all the delicious tapas and the pistachio dessert. We'll be back soon!

I know pinxos. I have been to the Basque Country at least 20 times. That wouldn't have been necessary at all, because in Utrecht they can do that trick better than the Basques themselves

Great concept with tapas, cold snacks that you can choose from and hot snacks that are passed around and you can always decide whether or not to use them. Delicious food in a real Utrecht wharf cellar!

Good quality food. Friendly service. Nice location on the canal. What was unfortunately disappointing was that the stock of cold pintxos was almost gone each time, and (at 7 p.m.!) it was said that a large number would no longer be made. The choice wasn't great, so we had to make do with that. Strange to have to announce this to your customers on a Sunday evening. I didn't find the excuse that “it is busier than on other Sundays” very strong.

Very cozy place to eat and very friendly staff. However, with some exceptions, the tapas and pinchos were a bit bland in taste. ''Just'' tasty, but I expected to be positively surprised and to encounter some more exciting ingredients. Perhaps too high expectations due to the high number of stars here. End on a positive note: Pork cheek and cheesecake are highly recommended.

Nice concept, friendly staff and delicious food.

We always liked coming to De Zwarte Vosch, but after yesterday we thought it was a bit overpriced. The atmosphere is good and the food is tasty, but we were quite shocked by the bill: 160 euros for two (big eaters) people. Previously we were also more surprised by the warm pinxtos with which they arrive, but this time they were not so interesting and not so regular. All in all a nice place, but for tapas it's a bit pricey!
