Downtown Burger in Burgwallen-Oude Zijde

I chose this place because of its lovely atmosphere and beautiful view. I ordered an American breakfast and a hot chocolate with whipped cream, and everything was delicious. Mario, who served me, was very kind and attentive. Definitely a great place to eat in Amsterdam!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A truly pleasant experience at Downtown Burger. The place is welcoming, with a casual atmosphere, perfect for a quiet evening with friends. We tried the BBQ ribs, which were truly excellent: tender, well-cooked, and covered in a flavorful sauce that wasn't overpowering. The fries were also very good, and the portions were quite generous. It was all washed down with a nice cold beer, which goes perfectly with this type of dinner. The place has that classic pub/burger restaurant style that immediately puts you at ease and makes stopping in pleasant, even without too much of a rush. Generous portions, good food, and a great atmosphere. A place I'd happily recommend and would definitely return to try the burgers. 🍔🍺

⭐ 1 star – and even that's too much. Great location, but otherwise, unfortunately, a classic tourist trap. €13 for an Aperol Spritz that's obviously a premixed drink from a bottle – at that price, you'd expect something different. But the absolute worst part was finding a beer bottle cap in my Aperol. You have to hand it to them. 🤦‍♂️ They've clearly cut corners on the ambiance as well. The salt and pepper shakers on the table are straight out of Lidl. There's nothing inherently wrong with that – but if you're going to charge these prices, you could at least make an effort to make the place look a bit more upscale. The equation here seems simple: prime location + lots of tourists = prices they'd hardly dare to charge elsewhere. €13 for a premixed drink and then a bottle cap in the glass – that's where I draw the line. Never again. Anyone who comes here because of the location should at least be prepared to be charged a hefty price for average service.

Food was absolutely awful and took ages to come. Sausages were horrible, bacon was greasy and fatty, the beans tasted like tomato sauce, hash brown disintegrated as soon as you tried to cut it. Not worth the money at all.

Ohhh, what a tourist trap! An ingredient was missing from one of the dishes I ordered, plus the fries were undercooked. Oh dear, run away, you poor things!

Michael is the manager and he is so friendly towards us all. He is welcoming and is an amazing manager. Best food definitely try it!

Very friendly and hard working staff, the food was great for these types of restaurants. Had one of the breakfasts for about 13€, a bit pricey but if you don't mind that it's a great place. (I'd say the prices are alright considering the staff are very hard working to keep you satisfied)

The food was mediocre, but as soon as you wanted to pay, the atmosphere soured and you were treated rudely. The surroundings were very noisy, with everything packed in tightly. The toilets were absolutely terrible.

As Brazilians, we have difficulty communicating in another language, and Mario provided us with excellent service. He helped us charge our cell phones, there's a clean restroom for customers inside the establishment, and the food satisfied us. Thank you, Mario! Very friendly and made us feel welcome in the city.

Really good food. The only problem is the owner that during all the night he is trying to catch new customers in the middle of the people already enjoying their food. You are finishing your food and he is offering you the bill

Their food is Amazingggg. Michael gave us a “vip treatment” as he called it. I would definitely recommend if you want a place that opens till 1am in Amsterdam.

The food was certainly fine. The service was very poor. We were told that a table was available for us outside and then were made to wait inside by the hot kitchen as they were not giving us the available tables outside. We also asked three times for our bill and then were finally told by the third person that we had to go inside and pay - which would have been no issue had we been told and not forced to sit around waiting. Additionally, twice during our meal, someone on the staff came over and moved our table. It was a very unpleasant experience and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

My husband and I decided to grab some food here. I got the fish and chips. My husband had the pasta. The food was terrible. The pasta was smothered in sauce and the fish tasted like cardboard. The service was the worst we've ever had in Amsterdam. When we first sat down, the waitress came over and we told her we wanted the bitterballen. She replies with "of course you do". Of course we do! We're in Holland. After she brought us the bitterballen, we never saw her again. Someone else brought out the food, we were going to order more drinks but no one came over to check on us and we even had to ask for our own check. This was the only place we didn't leave a tip at.

Wow…. Me and my husband where looking for a bit of food and a drink, Mario pulled us in off the street and gave us a great table out in the sunshine , I had the Affligem and my husband went for the Heineken xtra cold 🙌🏻 we then ordered a couple of burgers. I went glide the Jack Daniel’s and fries burger , my husband went for the Downtown Black Angus 300grm Burger and fries. These did not disappoint , when they arrived I realised straight away these where proper homemade beef burgers and cooked on the flame grill, would not Hesitate to order this again . If you want a proper homemade burger , this is the place and the service was amazing too x

I was initially happy with our choice for a burger a bit pricey for what it was, however I asked for a glass of water but was refused because I didn’t order an expensive drink with the meal, I would have walked if I had known beforehand.

The welcome was warm, but the departure was a complete disaster. The food was sloppy, expensive, and noisy. In short, avoid it; it's a tourist trap, and especially if you're with friends and want to split the bill, they'll tell you, with an extremely unpleasant attitude, that they only accept one credit card and nothing else. Go somewhere else!

We did not see any minced meat the cheese was from a sauce bottle and tasted yuk.... Do not waste your money when there are lots of nicer places to eat

We had the fish and chips. Probably the worst I’ve ever had. Dry, skin left on, tasteless. The gent beside us had a burger which also looked terrible. This place uses their location only to get customers but the food is atrocious! Don’t do it.

The burger was okay, but unfortunately it came completely without sauce, no tomatoes, no cucumber, nothing. The fries were good; it's more of a place that probably only tourists frequent.

The men they’ve hired as waiters do every kind of clownery imaginable just to get you to enter the venue. They make promises they won't keep and try to sell you the most expensive items. By Amsterdam standards, it is an absolute disgrace; the owner of the place should be ashamed of themselves. Nevertheless, even though the food tasted very bland, I would like to thank you for the fact that I didn't get food poisoning. You should also be ashamed of giving this terrible experience to tourists who want to get to know Amsterdam. I’d suggest you hand over your business or shut it down immediately.

Avoid this place at all costs. It's a rip-off. The prices are inflated, the food is mediocre. €15.90 for pasta with nothing in it, and they offered no compensation whatsoever. The place is noisy and small. The bill was outrageous. I will absolutely never go back.

Not recommended. I ordered a salad that wasn't fresh. The tuna was just slopped onto the salad straight from the can; you could see the shape of the can. No dressing, lots of onions, two tiny pieces of tomato, and two tiny pieces of cucumber. For €15 😵‍💫 It's all very cramped and very noisy. The staff is friendly when you first see them, but once you're seated, the friendliness disappears. Not recommended!

Worst experience. They almost kicked us out because we had finished our food—even though we still had beer in our glasses. We had to argue with the waiter, who insisted we leave if we weren’t planning to order more food or dessert. We weren’t even there for more than 45 minutes

Terrible service. They made us change tables twice because it suited them. They also asked us to move to the tables further inside so they could free up more tables outside and accommodate more customers. Before we'd even finished our beers, they asked if we wanted more, and when we said no but that we weren't leaving yet, they told us we had to leave because they needed the table free. The food was barely acceptable; they tried to push us to order something else that would be more profitable for them. A disaster.

It is what it is, cheap food at front row prices, blankets and heat lamps to keep you warm. They work hard for the customers and are happy staff. Good drinks. Sometimes you just need a burger and chips.

I tried the Amsterdam Burger and it was delicious. The meat was juicy and well-seasoned. The bread was fresh and the ingredients complemented each other perfectly. The burger was large and very filling. The service was friendly and the food arrived relatively quickly. The atmosphere in the restaurant was also pleasant. I would definitely recommend this burger restaurant and will gladly return.

A great place to eat! We tried the burger and the entrecote! Everything was delicious, and the portions were very generous. Luca and Filo are wonderful employees! They're attentive to everything at all times and always serve with a big smile. A young and fun place to eat and have a laugh! We'll be back! 🤗

We're Brazilian, but we have to admit that the pork ribs were wonderful and the beer... mmm, delicious!

So before going here you need to understand that this is a tourist trap. By that I mean it's hugely over priced, the the ingredients are cheap. You need to be prepared for it based on this truth. If you accept that, then the staff are welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The location overlooks some amazing architecture, and it is a really nice place to sit. I ordered a mixed grill for 2 with a side of garlic bread, and the food was good enough. The steak was as requested, and all the food was well cooked. However, this is not fine dining. The salt shaker had a Lidl logo, and I'd guess most off the ingredients came from there too. The steak was a poor uneven cut, the lamb chop had almost no lamb, and the ribs were no different to any packet ribs. The coke was also at least 40% ice. If it was cheap this all would be fine, however this cost €83. In a nutshell, you will pay almost fine dining prices for greasy spoon quality ingredients.

The food wasn't too bad, although not everything was equally fresh. This wasn't our first choice, but given how busy it was, there was no other option.

Avoid! Waiter/owner repeatedly singled out my fiance with comments of a racist nature. Added €30 to the bill we had received at the table when my fiance went inside to pay, when he queried this he was then charged the correct amount, but he has been double charged. Awful place! Food was not good either, aside from the terrible experience.
