⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ What a fantastic experience at Dutch Courage! From the moment we arrived, the staff were absolutely outstanding. Friendly, attentive, welcoming and genuinely passionate about what they do. The bartender was exceptional and clearly knew the art of creating a truly great cocktail. Every drink was beautifully crafted, perfectly balanced and made with real skill and attention to detail. It was lovely to see someone who genuinely takes pride in their work. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a great vibe that made it the perfect place to relax, enjoy delicious cocktails and soak up Amsterdam. The service really made the experience special. It's rare to find somewhere that gets everything so right. Without a doubt, one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam. We would absolutely recommend Dutch Courage and will definitely return!

What an amazing experience. I seriously did not expect it due to the super touristy location, but I left feeling like I cheated them for what I paid. My tip - sit at the bar and try genever tasting. I was in the middle of reading Albert Camus’s The Fall when I arrived in Amsterdam. The book is set at a genever bar in Amsterdam, and I wanted to simulate that experience on my first night. I had no idea where to go, but by chance, I definitely landed at the right place. The genever menu is ridiculously long, and you’ll probably need help with it, but that’s what the amazing bar staff are there for. I’m so sorry I didn’t catch the name of the blonde lady who took care of me, but she was the absolute sweetest. I felt like I was getting such a personalised experience the whole night and ended up staying much longer than I thought I would. I loved that they give you snacks to munch on and water (they were also topping them up all night). As a solo female traveller, I really appreciated how she checked up on me and how I was feeling throughout the night. The male bartender even offered me some genever on the house (Baker’s Best) which he said was made from bread. It was such a sweet gesture, but it was way too strong for me. I told her there was no way I could finish it, and she offered to dilute it with tonic water. I can’t remember how much I paid, but I remember being shocked just because the experience was so much more than just a couple of shots. I felt so taken care of by both of them. This will remain one of my fondest memories of Amsterdam.

We visited last night, and had a truly wonderful evening. Timo and his team were fantastic. We felt welcome and at home from the second we arrived. Within minutes my wife was happily singing along with the owner to some of the great music they play. But most importantly the drinks themselves were spectacular. Some were entirely new to us, others a spin on an old favorite. All delicious! Woderful drinks, vibe and people. We will definitely be back again.

We just came in for drinks and were lucky enough to find two people leaving, so we took their spot at the bar. Since the very beginning, the two servers/bartenders made us feel like home asking us what we wanted and pleasing with whatever drinks we wanted. One of them even took the time to listen to the ingredients and instructions of the drinks we wanted; he even made it MUCH BETTER! Loved the bar!!!!

Cocktails were exceptional - the menu was obviously put together very carefully and with a lot of creativity. The mocktails in particular were the best I ever had. Staff were all very friendly. The small bowl of Japanese rice crackers that were served together with water when you sit down were incredible - we even asked for the details of the supplier (unfortunately not for sale to consumers, apparently).

Brilliant cocktail bar specialising in Genever. Beautiful presentation, great recommendations and high-end attention to detail. Little things like using clear ice, frozen glasses and offering water and a snack on arrival set this bar apart from some of the tourist traps in the area. The “Dutch Roulette” vending machine is a great unique offering too!

We visited Dutch Courage and truly enjoyed it. Every cocktail was beautifully crafted and the ingredients came together so well. We enjoyed every drink we had and the highlight for us was really Joel, the bartender. He was friendly, engaging, and really took your time to make sure that we understood what we were drinking and that our drinks were what we wanted at a point in time. We will certainly be back there soon.

It's a very nice place. The cocktails are excellent, you should definitely try them. Yun's fresh cocktail ended the night beautifully.

This is a must find in Amsterdam! Olaf was so sweet and knowledgeable! We wanted espresso martinis and the bartender working with her (so sorry I didn't catch his name but he's in the pictures 😁) suggested Dutch Espresso martinis. They did NOT disappoint! From there we got the best education on Genever Spirits. We just happened into this bar because it was across from the restaurant we had dinner at and I couldn't be more pleased with this find!!

If I could have given 6 stars, they would have been there. My colleague and I ran into the owner of this beautiful bar here, who served us with enthusiasm and expertise all evening. Every cocktail was delicious and unique, with Dutch drinks taking center stage. Additionally, the in-house pickled cherry tomatoes and bitterballen with homemade mustard were truly superb! All in all, we had a fantastic evening, planning to return regularly!

The bartender is very knowledgeable on all things genever. Amazing selection of different jenever and amazing cocktails. Definitely stop in for exploring and getting a great cocktail. There is also a great vending machine in the place that I has a pairings of jenever and beer that makes for a fun experience.

Exceptionally good cocktails, in a huge variety, and for once, not your average Pornstar Martini. No, every cocktail here, whether ‘savory’ or sweet, is fantastically balanced, a whirlwind for your taste buds, and always something you haven’t had before. The service is extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. If desired, they will advise you based on your taste preferences. The place itself isn't super big and is therefore very cozy; making a reservation is smart if you want to be guaranteed a table. In any case, we definitely plan to work our way through the entire menu in stages!

We visited on two occasions, one at night and one in the afternoon. The bartenders were polite and welcoming, very eager to help us find the genever variation that was right for us. The drinks combined different and interesting tastes. The vibes were immaculate. All in all one of the best bars ever, would highly recommend!

Excellent discovery! We were delighted by the introduction to juniper liqueur and by the waitress who explained everything to us and seemed genuinely happy to share her knowledge. Too bad the machine wouldn't choose the cocktail for us 😂, maybe next time ;)

The interior is small but cozy, the cocktails are delicious and high-quality, it's definitely an experience worth trying. Ordering bites doubles the enjoyment.

Bartender is nice and has good vibes Van Gogh and roode de laars are delishhh. Both a bit sour the Van Gogh is a bit stronger but the laars might be perfect and has more of a juice flavor to it

We ordered a variety of Jenever & Cocktails. Service was great, patient and personalised. Waiters sat down and explained the different menu items, the history and recommendations. Atmosphere, super humid and airflow was lackluster. We sat on a larger table but quite cramped and uncomfortable seating for longer than an hour. Alcohol was great, variety of pricing and good portions. Cocktails SHOULD be larger for the price!

They were too judgmental on the entrance so just left. The lady in the entrance decided that our smile was too large. Said: “we can’t serve people who had too much to drink ….” My god! Not even close. There are other places less judging on your smiles and happiness level. Cannot recommend at all

Two uncles, around 60, went for drinks with their 24-year-old niece and her 42-year-old boyfriend. She didn't have her ID with her, but she did have a copy on her phone. They flatly refused to serve her a drink. Absurd. And on top of that, unfriendly and arrogant. A shame. No repeat visit despite the otherwise good reviews.

So. Where do you start? From the incredibly kind and generous Olfa (Ola, the f is silent) at the bar? From her extremely nice and genuinely open colleagues? Either way, this bar has to be on the top 50 best bars in the world. Sat down at the bar with no preconceived notions of what Genever, the dutch spirit is. Left 2 hours later fully enlightened and firmly obsessed. I started with the safe Genever Category flight but once I started giving Ola feedback on what I liked, the sampling started and it didn't end until I knew everything I needed to know about Genever - Hours later! And I even got to participate in taste testing her colleague's entry into the 1980's inspired Sweet Old Fashioned competition! There is no way to describe the > 10 samples of unique Genever she had me try, but suffice to say all of it educated me to a spirit I had no idea previously of! I can only say that's it's a travesty that this bar is not on the best bars in all those lists. But also why Genever is not more widely known. If you find yourself in Amsterdam and have no idea what Genever is or how best to experience it, this is the place. Being an avid traveler and trying to find that undiscovered niche, Olfa and the Dutch Courage, certainly were the best of my Amsterdam travel this June of 2026.

Nice coctails and kind service🍸🍹

This was my second time at Dutch Courage and there is a reason I always recommend it to anyone coming to Amsterdam. The bar has a cosy authentic atmosphere and the drinks are always exceptional.
