Really lovely place. Super friendly staff and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Menu was explained really well and couldn’t fault the service. Genever tasting flight and cocktails both amazing!

I came there back after few years, there is a new barman, amazing young lady, she knows a lot and the quality of the cocktails is still there. It was a great experience ;)

I came to Dutch Courage expecting great cocktails, but I left with a completely new appreciation for Genever. Olfa was incredibly welcoming, patient, and genuinely passionate about what she does. She took the time to understand what I enjoy, offered thoughtful recommendations, and even surprised me with a few tastings that made the whole experience unforgettable.

These guys are awesome, take a keen focus and passion in their craft. Their menu particularly caught our interest with just how cool it is. They were so kind as to let us all take one back home with us to keep the memory of this place. Bitterballen was amazing too. Keep up the great work guys!

Excellent discovery! We were delighted by the introduction to juniper liqueur and by the waitress who explained everything to us and seemed genuinely happy to share her knowledge. Too bad the machine wouldn't choose the cocktail for us 😂, maybe next time ;)

The interior is small but cozy, the cocktails are delicious and high-quality, it's definitely an experience worth trying. Ordering bites doubles the enjoyment.

Bartender is nice and has good vibes Van Gogh and roode de laars are delishhh. Both a bit sour the Van Gogh is a bit stronger but the laars might be perfect and has more of a juice flavor to it

They were too judgmental on the entrance so just left. The lady in the entrance decided that our smile was too large. Said: “we can’t serve people who had too much to drink ….” My god! Not even close. There are other places less judging on your smiles and happiness level. Cannot recommend at all

We ordered a variety of Jenever & Cocktails. Service was great, patient and personalised. Waiters sat down and explained the different menu items, the history and recommendations. Atmosphere, super humid and airflow was lackluster. We sat on a larger table but quite cramped and uncomfortable seating for longer than an hour. Alcohol was great, variety of pricing and good portions. Cocktails SHOULD be larger for the price!

Loved visiting this gorgeous cosy bar! The wine was delicious and the bartender was so friendly, offering us nibbles and a palette cleanser too! Highly recommend for a drink in a great location 🙌

Lovely bar and great cocktails!

Two uncles, around 60, went for drinks with their 24-year-old niece and her 42-year-old boyfriend. She didn't have her ID with her, but she did have a copy on her phone. They flatly refused to serve her a drink. Absurd. And on top of that, unfriendly and arrogant. A shame. No repeat visit despite the otherwise good reviews.

So. Where do you start? From the incredibly kind and generous Olfa (Ola, the f is silent) at the bar? From her extremely nice and genuinely open colleagues? Either way, this bar has to be on the top 50 best bars in the world. Sat down at the bar with no preconceived notions of what Genever, the dutch spirit is. Left 2 hours later fully enlightened and firmly obsessed. I started with the safe Genever Category flight but once I started giving Ola feedback on what I liked, the sampling started and it didn't end until I knew everything I needed to know about Genever - Hours later! And I even got to participate in taste testing her colleague's entry into the 1980's inspired Sweet Old Fashioned competition! There is no way to describe the > 10 samples of unique Genever she had me try, but suffice to say all of it educated me to a spirit I had no idea previously of! I can only say that's it's a travesty that this bar is not on the best bars in all those lists. But also why Genever is not more widely known. If you find yourself in Amsterdam and have no idea what Genever is or how best to experience it, this is the place. Being an avid traveler and trying to find that undiscovered niche, Olfa and the Dutch Courage, certainly were the best of my Amsterdam travel this June of 2026.

This was my second time at Dutch Courage and there is a reason I always recommend it to anyone coming to Amsterdam. The bar has a cosy authentic atmosphere and the drinks are always exceptional. The service last night was one of the best I’ve ever had in any bar all over the world. Orla was fantastic and is a credit to the place. Thank you for such a great evening. Stacy & Amanda

Spontaneously went for redlight jazz. At, I think, the best spot on the seafront. Top service! Fast, friendly, deliciously chilled drinks. We were happy!

If you’ve never experienced Genever, their flights are a great way to introduce yourself!

Amazing little place, huge menu with so much verity. Staff were super friendly, Leo gave us loads of great advice and was genuinely interested in our random conversations. Went there for a 7-jenever tasting. Timo was amazing - managed a full bar with >40 people by himself - and was very knowledgeable and friendly. will definitely be back!

In Amsterdam, I received a lot of criticism for the fact that Dutch wasn't spoken in many restaurants. But if they have something special, that's not a problem. There were nice people working here, and of course, the fact that it was King's Night meant the entire Zeedijk was dancing. So we had a really fun evening.

Timo is the most amazing host and mixologist. Stopped in on our way to find lunch to... Well, the name says it. Came out 3 rounds later, having enjoyed a wonderful chill time, amazing drinks, great sound track and a fabulous host. Definitely recommend... In fact probably heading back soon. I expect food is equally excellent but can't comment just yet

Came here after a quick search for a drink and ended up coming back each day of my stay, amazing cocktails and staff, highly recommended.

A great spot for craft cocktails - excellent drinks, bartenders and ambiance. A good local Dutch experience with a wide selection of genever served in different formats (flights, cocktails, etc). Also has tons of other options and knowledgeable bartenders for custom drinks. The bartenders (Mark and Tung) were even able to make a special tiki cocktail in a ceramic mug with different bitters and falernum I’d never heard of.

We (5 girls) had a wonderful experience at this bar and can highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. A special thank you goes to our waiter, Leo, who truly made the evening exceptional. He was incredibly attentive and friendly. He proactively asked about any allergies before we ordered, which made us feel safe and genuinely cared for. The service overall was excellent, the drinks were great, and the atmosphere was just right for a pleasant night out. Thanks to Leo’s outstanding service!

One of the most unique experiences/flavours I have experienced in Amsterdam. It was surprising to see how every cocktail uses Genever as its base, and with its versatility, you get very fun cocktails that add a unique character. Everything was outstanding about this place, and it wouldn’t have been like that without the beautiful hospitality from Leo, Yung and Ola from the night. Come to Amsterdam and visit one of the best bars in the area.

Not your basic cocktails, but tasty cocktails with a nice twist. They help you choose when you are overwhelmed by the selection. Good service!

After I moved back into the neighbourhood, I can't help stepping inside for a lil bit when I pass by, before continuing on my way. Being welcomed with big genuine smiles every time and how comfortable I feel shows that the whole crew is just absolute vibes (Especially Yung has a most infectious smile!)

We spent an hour chilling and having some wonderful cocktails. The young lady with the nose ring was super friendly and she gave us a nice table by the window. Not easy to take care of such a high quality bar yourself. But she smashed it! Also she makes some banging margaritas!

nice little place we went for a end of the evening drink, Leo was our server who was very helpful i went with a recommended cocktail, Van Gogh, which did prove to keep me awake all night!

I’ve been to Dutch Courage before and had a great experience — friendly bartenders, relaxed vibe, and a customer-first atmosphere. Unfortunately, last night was the opposite. We arrived with about an hour before closing. Service was slow, and then a staff member stepped in partway through the night with a very accusatory, policing tone - the vibe was less “how can I help?” and more “explain yourself.” It made us feel like a problem rather than customers. The biggest issue: I ordered vegetarian food (not vegan) and was served the vegan version anyway. I had been clear about this up front. When I tried to resolve it, the conversation kept getting framed as if I was at fault for timing, even though delays on the service side are what pushed things late. On top of that, I asked to refill my drink bottle with tap water because I was very thirsty. I was offered sparkling instead in a way that sounded like it might be a house option - but it was added to the bill without being made clear. Mistakes happen. What made this a two-star night was the combination of (1) order integrity breaking, (2) confusing/unclear billing, and (3) a management tone that felt hostile instead of helpful. I’d love to come back to the version of Dutch Courage I remember, but this experience really put me off.

We were randomly exploring the city and ended stumbling upon this gem. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. The service and cocktails were absolutely wonderful. Ola was so sweet and knowledgeable, she shared so much history with us which made our experience even better. She introduced us to genever which we were obsessed. I highly recommend trying the genever flights to try the different flavors. They are all delicious, especially bokma. This was our favorite spot from our trip, we can’t wait to come back and visit!

We stopped in one evening on a walk after the place was recommended and got some great service and help selecting a cocktail and we were not disappointed. We ended up with two excellent, interesting, and balanced cocktails, the Koko Klapa (passion fruit but not too sweet) and the Duiven Op De Dam (grapefruit and butters balanced this one nicely). A great experience. Would absolutely recommend.
