Demetra is a beautiful authentic Italian restaurant a 5 minutes walk from the central shopping street. We ordered a vegetarian pizza. Burrata salad and creamy ravioli with shaved mushrooms. The atmosphere was very cozy and welcoming, the service was fast, and the food was amazing! Hilgh recommended

We came here with 3 people… we were refused service because only 2 of us wanted food and one of us wasn’t eating. Don’t open a restaurant if you don’t want to be in the hospitality business.

My family and I came here to eat. 2 of us ordered, 1 just wanted a drink. They didn’t accept us as clients quoting that “we were ordering food for 2 but taking a seat of 4”. There are plenty of decent establishments around here, don’t bother making these type of people money.

We were greeted by a rude employee who scolded us to wait at the door when we had only moved a few steps inside. Then because we didnt have a reservation he told us we had to wait 10-15 minutes to see if another reservation was going to be late when the restaurant was almost completely empty. We left after being treated like children so no comments on the food.

What a wonderful experience this was. Everything was perfect down to the last detail, and the food tasted truly exquisite. The pizzas had a perfect, airy crust with just the right amount of topping. The attention to detail was particularly striking, such as the cute little logo on the pizza that immediately showed the artisanal way the work is done here. The glass of cold Birra Moretti also completed the dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed this lovely evening. Highly recommended for anyone who loves good food.

Incredible dining experience we had at your restaurant. Having sampled a variety of your dishes, I can confidently say it was one of the best Italian meals I have ever had in Amsterdam. It was a bad experience for us. The food is delicious, but the prices are above average. The location is in a remote area. They are also completely unhelpful regarding phone charging.

It is difficult to find a good pizza place in this part of Amsterdam with gluten-free and vegetarian options. Especially for a large group of 20 people. Nevertheless, I ended up at Demetra and certainly haven't regretted it! They were already so nice and flexible with making the reservation via email beforehand. I considered that a plus point. Do note: you have to pay a deposit for your reservation if you book for such a large group. This is refunded later, so it is not deducted from your bill. The pizza was incredibly tasty and authentic. The highlight of the evening (the group was still talking about it the next day). The service was friendly and flexible. Do note, the restaurant is not very big, so make a reservation in advance. The next time I am in Amsterdam, I will definitely come back to eat here! Thanks Demetra for the lovely evening :)

Fantastic value for money. The food is prepared with care; the mortadella pizza is highly recommended. For dessert: I have never eaten such a delicious tiramisu. Friendly service; these people deserve good patronage.

Terrible pizza, perhaps the worst I've had in Amsterdam. Let's just say they don't share hygiene. The place is very dirty and small.

Although we had a reservation, we had to wait a while for our table. But it was definitely worth the wait! The food was excellent and served very quickly. We especially want to highlight the friendly service. Bartolomeu was incredibly kind and attentive, and he made our evening even more enjoyable. If you're in Amsterdam and craving a really good pizza, Demetra Pizzeria is definitely worth a visit! :)

We waited for 15 minutes to sit although the two tables at the back were empty. Don’t have cooled red wine, instead suggested me to put ice in the wine. Very noisy and tight place but the pistachio pizzas were perfect and the shiraz wine was very good.

Amazing place! Our group of 14 was desperately searching for a table in Amsterdam. All we wanted was pizza. And then we stumbled upon this one. The staff were incredibly friendly on the phone AND in the restaurant! We were able to reserve a table for the evening on the same day. When we arrived, they had a fantastic selection of fresh, delicious, and unique dishes. Our drinks arrived quickly, and after a short wait, we all got our food together! We all thought it was absolutely delicious! Best pizza we've had in ages! ✨ The only downside was that they didn't offer "regular" dishes in the evening. Margherita pizza wasn't available... (only at lunchtime). I found that a real shame, as the individual pizzas were quite special (but tasty). This could be difficult for children, etc. Also, the prices were rather high (€12 for a small portion of bruschetta is quite a lot).

I just stop by for an aperol spritz 😀 They were so nice and friendly... I liked the athmosphere. Place is quite small but I felt so warm.

Best Italian pizza's I've had in Amsterdam! Food was amazing and had an overall great experience. I haven't tasted the pasta yet, but will definitely go back to do so. The waiter was very nice. We didn't book a table and the waiting time was quite long, so I would definitely recommend to book before going. Its a quite small place, so if its fully booked and people are enjoying it, it can get a bit loud.

Came for early pre rock concert dinner. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was delicious and service was great. The portions were in the right size. There was good vibe but it's not for a quiet romantic dinner. It's advisable to reserve a table in advance especially in weekends. Definitely will come again

We had a fantastic meal with 6 people. Meatballs, bruschetta, and burrata were top-notch. Truffle risotto stew was sublime. Scoppino was one of the best I've ever had. A solid 10 out of 10.

Food was outstanding. The service was so friendly and you could tell that the entire staff not only truly cares about the food but felt the pride in how absolutely delicious everything was. We had an array of appetizers, salad, braised beef cheeks, roasted potatoes, focaccia and lasagna. Every single item was given great attention. For example, the red onion compote served with the cheese and meat plate appetizer was amazing. What a nice authentic touch! Loved the cozy and casual atmosphere that was clearly a "play" on la nonna's kitchen. Will definitely be back to try everything else on the menu!

We went to this small Italian restaurant on a recommendation. We found it small, clean, and comfortable. The staff is all Italian. The products are truly tasty and high-quality: just think that they prepare everything themselves with basic ingredients, like the same rolled pasta for tagliatelle or lasagna. The pizza was exceptional! We were served by a very young waiter named Lorenzo, who was super professional and helpful. Truly delicious! Congratulations!

Homemade pasta was amazing. Service was great with true Italian’s running the place. We found it odd that there were no vegetarian options for pizza’s, not even margarita or fungi but we enjoyed our pasta dishes immensely. One Tagliatelle with salsiccia, panna & funghi and one with burrata and spicy tomato sauce. The exterior is super cute and inviting, but we felt the interior could use some work. It was bright white with LEGO models on the walls.

On the edge of Rembrandtplein in the heart of Amsterdam, you wouldn't expect high-end restaurants; rather, you'd expect commercial eateries where tourist (mediocre) quality is the standard. But Demetre is truly something else entirely, making it the exception to the rule. It is a small, cozy restaurant serving authentic, high-quality Italian dishes. After all, as a Neapolitan Amsterdammer, I set the bar very high. Whether you want the perfect pizza or one of the delicious pastas, it is all equally tasty and of high quality. The whole family enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and the Italian and very friendly staff. It is highly recommended, and despite being right in the heart of Amsterdam—making it somewhat difficult to reach or with expensive parking—we will undoubtedly return. A little gem near Rembrandtplein.

We had beef carpaccio with shaved truffles, shaved Parmesan, and arugula with balsamic glaze. We had the mortadella pizza which was divine. We also had a pasta with sausage and mushrooms in a creamy sauce that was so good. And then we had the pizza with tuna. My friend enjoyed that. I highly recommend!

I picked it for my birthday dinner because I don't eat pizza often throughout the year, and I wanted to celebrate with my loved ones over a truly special slice (or two!). I was particularly drawn to their sourdough pizza, made with in-house dough using a long fermentation process that gives it that signature tangy, complex flavor. What makes sourdough pizza better than regular dough? The natural fermentation breaks down gluten and starches, making it easier to digest and less likely to cause bloating, plus it has a lower glycemic index for steadier blood sugar levels – all while delivering a crispier crust and richer taste that elevates the whole experience. We started with the carbonara pizza and Italian sausage pizzas, both bursting with authentic flavors – the carbonara was topped with the runny yolk and perfectly balanced, while the sausage had that ideal flavour. We also shared an order of meatballs smothered in the most delicious, rich tomato sauce; it was a highlight that had everyone reaching for seconds. The portions were generous, the service friendly and efficient, and the cozy vibe made it feel like a hidden neighborhood favorite. For two adults and our 12-year-old boy, including a 10% tip, the total came to just 67 euros – fantastic value for such quality Italian fare in the city center. Overall, a delightful experience that left us full and happy. Highly recommend for pizza lovers!

My mam and I came here for dinner on our first night in Amsterdam. The food was gorgeous, we got caesar salads, fresh bread, bruschetta and roasted potatoes to share. We ordered a bottle of the Pinot Grigio to share, it was delicious. Everything was amazing! The staff are so kind and welcoming, truly an amazing team! I would definitely recommend and will 100% come back when I’m in Amsterdam again.

Cozy Italian restaurant-pizzeria in the centre of Amsterdam. It has become one of our favourite places for many occasions, also the special ones. Food is great and the floor staff is always lovely. Congrats to the owner who chooses a staff that takes good care of the costumers. 🍀

Nice place. Friendly service. It wasn't busy, but the food was served very quickly. Dessert arrived after 45 meters. After clearing the starter plates, the main course arrived immediately. The three meatballs weren't great. The bread and tomato sauce were. The beef cheeks weren't great. We wanted another coffee but received the bill. All in all, not great.

Tiramisu is to die for, amazing staff working there, actually the best waiters I met during my three years living in the Netherlands. So caring

The best lasagna I've ever eaten

On Saturday, 15 November, I visited Demetra with a friend who had made a reservation for 18:30. The restaurant is quite small, which gives it a cozy atmosphere, but the table we were assigned was extremely cramped and the space between the chair and the table was so tight that it was almost impossible to sit comfortably. One of us had to sit awkwardly just to make enough room for the other. In addition, there was a very loud group seated right next to us, which made it impossible to have a normal conversation. For bites/starters, we had some bread and focaccia. The bread was very good, but the focaccia didn’t seem fresh and was quite chewy. Throughout the evening, we noticed the staff checking on us repeatedly. After a while, it stopped feeling like attentive service and instead felt as if they wanted us to leave as soon as possible. The food we ordered was nice, but during dessert an employee brought us the bill without us asking for it, which strongly reinforced this impression. I was very surprised, as this has never happened to me before. What made the situation even more disappointing is that when my friend made the reservation, there was no mention of any time limit for our table. If the restaurant needed to free the table for another reservation, this should have been clearly communicated when we arrived. In total, we spent at most one hour at the restaurant, and what should have been a pleasant, relaxed evening with a friend ended up feeling rushed and uncomfortable.

The pizza was unforgettable. The crust perfectly crisp on the outside and soft inside, and the cheese melted in your mouth. Every bite was layered with flavour, and you could really taste the freshness of the ingredients. The pasta was WOW. It danced on my tongue - rich and silky. The staff were welcoming, attentive without ever being pushy, and clearly proud of what they serve. This is authentic Italian food made with love.

This was by far the best experience I’ve had at an Italian restaurant in the Netherlands. The pizza was outstanding, with a light, delicious dough that was simply perfect. The pasta was incredibly flavorful—you could taste the freshness and quality with every bite! Our group of 4 decided to sample a variety of dishes, ordering four different pizzas and a pasta. We intended to take some leftovers home, but everything was so delicious that we ended up finishing every last bite, and surprisingly, none of us felt overly full or heavy afterward. Despite being satisfied, we couldn’t resist ordering dessert, and it was absolutely worth it. The tiramisu was the best I’ve ever had, and the panna cotta was equally delightful. Overall, it was a perfect Italian dining experience that left us all feeling happy and satisfied. Highly recommended!
