Horrible! Last Sunday, during the Christmas market, we went in here around 2:00 PM. The waitress asked if we wanted something to eat, which we didn't need, and we could sit down for drinks. Then she told the bartender she was disappointed that she'd only allowed us to have drinks. We felt completely unwelcome. If that were the end of it, no way. They repeated this about four times over the next 10 minutes. Even while we were paying, they kept talking about us to each other. Unbelievable. I will never, ever go back here.

Unnecessarily high surcharge for debit card payments of 1 euro, while debit card payments cost an average of 0.17 cents per transaction.

⭐☆☆☆☆ I was at this restaurant today and ordered tea. My son had brought his own juice, so I politely asked if we could sit outside so he could drink his. Initially, the owner said it wouldn't be a problem. However, after five minutes, while I was drinking my tea, he came over and said it wasn't allowed to drink drinks from outside. I understand the rule, but I had asked beforehand and received no objection. The last time I was here, the same man also complained because my son was speaking a bit too loudly. He's very unfriendly, always grumpy, and unsociable. It's a shame, because his attitude makes the atmosphere very unpleasant. Of course, they kept their 3 stars because they don't deserve more.

Picture this : Im 9 months pregnant with a big belly and I need to use a bathroom. I kindly ask if I can use the bathroom of this lunch place, Im out of breath. A old tall man, probably the owner tells me that it’s only for customer, telling me No. I told him, surprised, that Im pregnant and really need the bathroom, he tells me to buy a glass of water… If he had said yes to me the first time I would have tipped, I would have ordered something leaving the bathroom. His behaviour is terrible, unkind. I told him while leaving that he wasnt nice and he answer “you not nice either”. I will never be a customer of such a rude and unkind man. Shame on you for refusing bathroom access to pregnant women.

We had a delicious sandwich and the staff was very friendly. I don't quite understand the other reviews.

I can only advise against this place. The man who works there clearly wants to give his customers a terrible experience. Insults, expulsion, and denial of restroom use are commonplace here. The coffee and food are also not good. I recommend everyone stay well away from this cafe before this man tries to ruin your day.

A man who works at the restaurant, I believe he's the owner, wouldn't let me take my daughter to the bathroom because I wasn't drinking, but my husband was drinking at the bar. It was a rudeness I've never seen anywhere else. He closed the door and said he couldn't take her.

As we walked by, we spotted an advertisement for barista coffee. They also offered a variety of cakes. The service was very friendly and accommodating. I spoke briefly with the owner, who explained to me that they're now operating a different concept: no longer serving food, but coffee, cake, and a lunchtime cafe. The apple pie, cappuccino, and caramel iced latte were fantastic! The previous Google reviews no longer match the new concept! For a good coffee, absolutely recommended!

We ducked into this spot because it was nearby while it started to rain. I made the mistake of failing to read other people's reviews. The hamburger was overcooked and nearly inedible, and the few potatoes chips scattered nearby were nothing special. I would not recommend it.

After a walk through Haarlem we decided to have something to eat here. It was a good choice.

Ik heb nog nooit in mijn leven een negatieve review geschreven, maar ik heb dan ook nog nooit zoiets meegemaakt als ik hier heb meegemaakt. Ik en mijn vriendin waren aan het shoppen in de stad met onze partners. De mannen gingen op een bepaald moment alvast even ergens zitten (Eet- en drinklokaal De Anegang) terwijl wij nog even door gingen winkelen. Eenmaal klaar wilde we ons bij hen voegen. Er was op dit moment nog een ander tafeltje in het restaurant. De mannen hadden al wat biertjes gedaan toen de man (ik denk eigenaar) ons kwam vragen wat wij wilden. Mijn vriendin wilde een koffietje en ik hoefde even niks aangezien ik me niet zo lekker voelde (kan de beste overkomen lijkt me. Nadat ik dit zei, reageerde de man met : oh jawel toch! Waarop ik moest lachen omdat ik dacht dat hij een grapje maakte, maar de man was bloedserieus. Ik zei: Bent u serieus. Waarop hij ja zei. Ik zei: dit voelt een beetje raar. Dit ook aangezien de mannen al aardig wat hadden besteld en mijn vriendin ook iets bestelde. waarom de man zei: Het is hier wel lunchroom he, als je niets besteld mag je de stoel verlaten. Ik was echt enorm geschrokken van deze reactie en het huilen stond mij op dit moment nader dan het lachen. Gelukkig hebben wij ontzettend lieve mannen die heel rustig bleven en vroegen of we dan alsjeblieft de rekening mochten waarop de man zei: dan mag je wel even lekker binnen mogen afrekenen. De manier waarop hij dit zei was ook weer erg denigrerend. Heeft deze man een probleem? Begin geen horeca zaak als je geen klanten wilt ontvangen. Ik werd echt heel verdrietig van deze ervaring. Ik hoop dat andere mensen hier niet heen gaan want het heeft onze dag helaas toch wel een beetje verpest...

3 januari daar in Haarlem terecht gekomen, omdat goede tenten vol zaten. Het regende, we hadden honger en geen zin meer om verder te zoeken. Zeer weinig keus, alles voor lunch €13,- tot €14,-...behalve de tomatensoep met brood, €9,-Tomatensoep was waterig, men had om het vers te laten lijken zure cherrytomaatjes, room en wat lenteui toegevoegd, maar het leek echt wel op oplos soep. Het brood wat droog en oud. Bij het afrekenen vertelde ik hem dat die lange ober, maar die man met dat brilletje werd witheet, zei dat ie het 's ochtends vers gemaakt had volgens Italiaans recept. Ik wilde zo snel mogelijk weg, dus ik liep de zaak uit, maar heren hadden niet door dat schoonzus nog in de zaak was. Hij noemde mij een teringwijf!

Judging from the reactions today I think the owner was not having a good day, a very unpleasant man, he certainly could not handle the crowds if you are so unfriendly to paying customers, who just deliberately closes the door hard when you are still standing with one foot and that he even thinks that is normal. This was after our toilet visit, which according to the owner was only for regular customers, while we had all already had a cup of coffee. If you read everything like this, he is more concerned with the toilet than with making sure that people still go in for the fun.

Beetje rare gast daar nadat we koffie hadden gedronken wilde na het afrekenen naar het toilet kwam de man ons achterna om te zeggen dat het toilet alleen voor vast gasten was we hebben gevraagd wat haar daar mee bedoelde maar kwam niet echt een juiste reactie, toen we weg gingen stond een van ons nog op de drempel om de deur te sluiten duwde die man de deur zo hard dicht dat haar voet er nog tussen zat! Na een discussie vond ie dat we niet meer welkom waren maar ja gelukkig wonen we daar niet en zouden we ook echt niet terug gaan je moet zelfs een vergoeding betalen voor het pinnen.

We had a drink after drinking we wanted to pee. The man said we were not regulars and were not allowed to go. We were thrown out of the tent with a heavy hand. Wow what a horror this man! Unfortunately not able to speak a normal word with!

“Patience is a virtue” “cosiness knows no time” hangs on the wall. However, during the Christmas market we still had to pay 1 hour before closing time because they were closing. Too bad that this ruins the entire atmosphere. They clear your table when half of your group is still drinking something.

Worst service ever. Tall middle aged guy with glasses. After interacting with him we left Haarlem for ever, never coming back. We went to Amsterdam and spent all our money there. As far away from this guy as possible. Bad

Had lunch here with my two small children. Service was relaxed and thoughtful. Food was good, although perhaps a bit expensive (but that's the local price I guess).

Vreselijke arrogant kerels! De een ging, voordat ik plaats kon nemen, wijdbeens met de handen in de zij mij gelijk de REGELS uitleggen van het koffietentje. De ander die de bestelling kwam opnemen zei dat ik mijn tas op de grond kon zetten want het was niet de bedoeling deze op de stoel naast me te zetten want “ het staat zo ongezellig mevrouwtje”. Sorry….? Het chagrijn druipt er van af dus ik zei: “ nou meneertje u bent zelf ook niet de gezelligste”. Hij liet me met luid geschal weten te kunnen vertrekken deed ik dat niet snel dan ging het ventje de politie bellen. Hahaha wat een achtelijke staatsnsber met dit agressieve intimiderende asociale gedrag! Nooit naar toe gaan!

Today I asked kindly, even pleadingly, if I could please use the toilet. I'm pregnant (visible, you can't ignore it, but still emphasized) and my bladder is therefore not that strong. The man was very unfriendly! I was only allowed to use the toilet if I wanted to eat and drink something, but I had already done this elsewhere recently. I begged him again to please use the toilet. Response from the gentleman: "Yes, so well, you can also eat and drink here!" in a very arrogant and unfriendly tone. If he had said, "put a euro in a jar and it's okay", that would have been fine as far as I was concerned. I'm not the worst. Update after 3 years: I don't understand why this case still exists. It's raining complaints about the owner. He is very, very unfriendly to many people, they are expensive and the food isn't even really good if I believe the reviews, and I believe the reviews! I'm glad I wasn't tempted to eat and drink there, because it's not worth it!

Partner needed bathroom, I needed coffee. Asked for a latte, which seemed to confuse the owner ("Latte Macchiato?" he said). Partner came back from bathroom. I went to the bathroom 5m later, and when I was downstairs he approached my partner and told her that we'd need to buy another coffee because we'd both used the bathroom. He is a psychopath. And the coffee was terrible. Do not give this clown any money.

Nice place to sit, fast service

The person running the place must be sick - poor guy! Because such antisocial behavior is pathalogical and I have never experienced it anywhere in the world. The three of us came and ordered 2 coffees for outside. Our son didn't want anything at that moment and this person sent him off. We drank the 2 small espresso coffees in no time (despite the fact that they were far too hot) and I went into the restaurant to pay. The person wanted to charge me €4 for 1 coffee even though the menu said 3.75 (far too expensive). When asked, he said I had used his toilet. After going back and forth, he finally wanted to give me €50.- €2.50 instead of €42.50. When I pointed out that all of this was impossible and that I rated him poorly, he insulted me in the worst possible way A restaurant owner like this should have his license revoked immediately.

Sandwiches were really low quality and overpriced. Brie sandwich was two slices of white sandwich bread with three slices of bree for 13€!! After we were finished eating, I was feeding our baby. During that a reserved sign was put on the table and I was asked to leave immediately (even though nobody was waiting and plenty of tables were free). I asked to please be allowed to stay for two more minutes, but this was not possible. Summary: bad service & bad food

Come in and take a seat. It then takes a very long time before we are helped. My girlfriend wasn't feeling well and only wanted a cup of tea. We were told quite rudely that they only did lunch. When asked where we could just have a drink, we again received an unfriendly response. The only plus was that we were dry for a while. Not a place where we would have lunch another time, for example. Highly recommended

Had a delicious lunch here during my visit to Haarlem. The choice fell on a 12-hour period. A soup, white sandwich with croquette and brown sandwich with tuna salad was served after 15 minutes and tasted good. Inside, the place looks neat and there is nothing to criticize about the service. This one was friendly and nice.

Very unfriendly! The gentleman doesn't even want to fill a toddler's bottle of water and then doesn't call himself a “social institution”; ridiculous!

This afternoon, 12/28, we had lunch with 2 people. 1x tuna salad 12.50 1x tomato soup 9.00 1x flat white 1x cappuccino Total bill: €30.00 Quite the price! They forgot to provide cutlery with the tuna salad. I asked for it at the bar myself. Management quite businesslike. No service with a smile. Won't be back there again

Went today with my girlfriend. We both ordered a nice croquette sandwich, my croquette just exploded over my fingers, it was a mess, I had 2 burnt fingers with blisters on them, I got a new croquette, but I had already eaten it, I just had to pay the full price for us, never again.

Rude staff. Judging by the reviews, I'm not the only one with a bad experience. So apparently the gentlemen have no intention of improving their customer service.

Very unfriendly staff! From the moment of entry. We came for a drink while shopping but did not feel welcome at all. When paying, I made the snide comment that from now on we better go to a large tent on the Grote Markt if we have a stroller with us because they actually didn't have room for that. Moreover, 8 euros for one cup of coffee and one cup of tea is not nice even in these times.

We sat here to feed our baby and immediately ordered something to drink for ourselves. Within five minutes and before we had even finished our drinks, it was reported that they were closing (earlier than indicated via Google). So we had to find another place to bottle feed our baby. So we don't come here anymore.

Simple cheese toasties made from plain white bread, albeit with 3 slices of bread with a bag of ketchup and a lettuce leaf for €9.50, a poor price-quality ratio. No choice of brown or other tasty bread, no particularly pleasant service.
