It remains difficult to write a positive review for an establishment like Restaurant Sukade when it ends up in the same general rating pool as the local snack bar. For Sukade is not a place where you grab a quick bite; it is a true culinary experience. The food is of high quality and tastes fantastic. What I missed during the evening was the story behind the dishes. Why did the chef come up with this idea? What is the thinking behind the preparation and the food and wine pairings, and what makes their style so unique compared to other establishments? Fortunately, the beautiful, atmospheric location by the water in Meppel more than compensates for that. Will I return here often? Absolutely.

Today I ordered freshly squeezed orange juice (€4.95 for 250 ml). The juice was very light and tasted watery. When I asked if it had been diluted with water, I was told that this was due to the use of 'young oranges'. A creative explanation, but biologically incorrect: early/young oranges are actually very acidic, whereas this juice was not acidic at all, but simply weak and watery (my daughter, who normally doesn't like fresh juice because it is too sour, actually liked this one). Very disappointing. For €20 per liter, I expect pure juice, not a diluted glass.

We ordered and picked up; it was very busy, but the food was good. Unfortunately, they have few vegetarian or vegan options on the menu.

We had a delicious meal and were served by a super friendly and cheerful lady. The restaurant has a living room atmosphere and the menu is classic, not very innovative, but very tasty!
