Genki in Grachtengordel-Zuid

Years ago, when I lived in Amsterdam, I loved going to Genki. After receiving a voucher through Tripper, we made a reservation at Genki. According to Tripper, reservations were available from 4:00 PM. We made a reservation for 5:00 PM and arrived about 10 minutes before that time. It turned out our reservation hadn't gone through. The employee didn't know anything about Tripper. I asked if he could check with his colleagues, but he initially refused. The employee said we could still eat there, but at the regular price. I explained that we had already paid for the food online. Reluctantly, the manager was called, and we were asked to take a seat. The employee told me they wouldn't open for another 11 minutes. Strange, because Tripper said reservations were available for an hour before that. Fifteen minutes later, the employee arrived and explained that the boss wasn't offering a Tripper promotion. In his words: "He (the boss) tells me to kick you out." The employee indicated that he obviously wouldn't say it that way, but the bottom line was that we had to leave. I asked if he/his boss would confirm this in writing so I could pass it on to Tripper to discuss a refund. This request was ignored. My mother was deeply shocked by this extremely rude and downright hostile attitude and was on the verge of tears. Eventually, the boss was called, and the employee passed the phone to me. The comment about "throwing me out" was downplayed, and when I explained that this attitude was simply unacceptable, we were finally offered to take the vouchers. Reluctantly, but with little choice given the rain and lack of time, we agreed. It was a very uncomfortable situation in which the employee (however well-intentioned) didn't act decisively, and Genki's internal communication and administration were inadequate. You can't sell vouchers online and then shame the guests who use them and make it so difficult to redeem them. The food was decent. Nothing special and limited selection, but the dishes we did have were tasty. It's a shame our dinner started off so poorly. Ultimately, this means this will be our last time at Genki, and we certainly won't recommend this restaurant to our family, friends, or business associates.

Unfortunately, one of the worst and most expensive all-you-can-eat restaurants I've ever eaten at. The location is nice, of course, right in the middle of the city, on such a lively street. But... The food is bland; dishes with fried beef have a strange, distinct aftertaste and smell strange. Dishes with salmon are overcooked... The sushi is okay, but certainly not a culinary highlight. (Boring and a bit outdated, cream cheese, etc.) Desserts aren't included in the price, not even a choice of one scoop of ice cream. The cocktails look nice, taste good, but they could just as easily have been mocktails, because you don't taste any alcohol at all, and that for 15 euros. No. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. And maybe you could even call it a tourist trap.

The sushi was absolutely disgusting! Everything else was dry and overcooked, and what a mess! There were cockroaches crawling on the ceiling, and my friend saw a mouse when she went to the restroom! The waitress smelled awful! I left right away!

Delicious food, incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked fish, crispy but not greasy fried food, fresh and crunchy nigiri. Practically perfect service, generally attentive, smiling, and helpful staff; shame about the manager, who was a bit grumpy. We had a great time and will be back. Very central location, prices average for central Amsterdam.

The food itself was ‘good’, yet the service and therefore the atmosphere was not. It was very clear the staff wanted to leave as soon as possible far before the restaurant (or the kitchen) was even closing. On top of that, mistakes were made with our order and one of the dishes turned out to have eggs in there, although the menu stated there would not be any (I cannot eat eggs). Overall, I didn’t have a good experience with this restaurant and have never felt as rushed out as here..

I can’t comment on the food, but I was very disappointed by the service. When I politely asked for an extra chair to place my backpack, I was told it wasn’t possible—even though there were plenty of free tables and chairs available. This left me with a very upsetting impression.

Food was mehhh.. Mediocre at best. Also you need to pay extra for some sushi rolls. Which is fine if the ingrediënts are different than the standard menu but it's all the same. Excerpt for maybe the beef sushi. Which in many sushi restaurants are included in the standard menu. I do not recommend the rainbow. It tasted awful. The staff however gets all the credits here. Ambience is also nice in the garden at the back of the restaurant. Wish the food was better though.

We cane here for our wedding anniversary after reading all of the comments but we were left disappointed. The scallops did not taste fresh at all, very fishy and off tasting. We order sashimi and sushi but decided not to eat it. If you are expecting great quality sushi, do not expect it here. The other dishes were also ok, nothing to be wowed over.

Full of mosquitoes in all the restaurant. Beats you every moment. Very expensive for quality food. There’re bones inside salmon pieces. Very inattentive stuff. We paid 96 euros two people and several injuries of mosquitoes in our skin. Not a recomendable place at all

The location is unexpectedly beautiful inside. The food is very good, but average compared to other sushi places in the city. They stood out for their more refined dishes and very good service. the only thing is the basic choice of menu, many dishes are outside the all you can eat menu, but I gladly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice atmosphere :)

In addition to the order, we asked for a glass of water to drink the pill, but they could only offer to buy bottled water, although they should always give a glass of water for free.

Excellent quality for the all you can eat menu. The fish was very fresh. There is a 5 round limit, but it’s more than enough to eat as much as you want. Garden area in the back was very nice in this summer weather.

For years and years I keep coming back here. I moved abroad but almost every time I visit Amsterdam I come back here. And it’s always as good as the first day. And will always stay one of the best sushi places in Amsterdam!

Sushi was on point, along with their services as well. We had our friendly guest who sat with us for the entire dinner time. His name is Appi (If I spelled it right!) Appi, is the owner's cat who sat with us throughout our meal. It was a pleasure time there to dine in along with a new friend :)

Searched for springrolls via Google. And ended up here unfortunately they didn't have what we wanted. They were kind of springroll-like things. Didn't eat there so can't say anything about that Too bad Google made us walk there for nothing (20 min)

Tasty cocktails, quite a bit pricey compared to other places, but the good service and patio heating makes up for that! Recommended: Split 43, a cocktail that tastes exactly like a split ice cream!

Nice place, all you can eat option available. Plenty of choice. Sushi was nice, especially the flambé salmon just melts in your mouth. But we only had one, spicy tuna I think, that looked funky and tasted funky (but we lived to tell you and had no issues, so maybe we weren’t used to the looks and taste of that seasoning ). Service is attentive and it’s a relaxed atmosphere. There were however some white Dutch ladies who thought it was funny to make fun of the waiters accent, that was awful to see. So maybe they should be more strict about who they let in.

We were with our small dog in our bag, unfortunately dogs are not allowed inside, only on the terrace. At first we were told that the food was only served indoors, which was a bit incomprehensible. After some back and forth we were finally allowed to eat outside, for which we were grateful. The miso soup was disappointing: very thin and the portion small, especially in relation to the price. The sushi itself tasted okay and was served quite elaborately - with a mist of dry ice, which looks quite impressive. Wasabi wasn't included, however, so we had to ask specifically for it. Overall, a mixed visit - nice atmosphere, but room for improvement in terms of price-performance ratio.

Delicious food and a nice atmosphere!

Now for me it is number one in Amsterdam. Quality is always the same.

The staff is fast, friendly and diligent, and the atmosphere was cozy, but the food (the main task of a restaurant) was really below standard. The squidrings and asparagus were way too tough to chew through. The rice wasn't soft and almost hardened in texture as if it wasn't cooked correctly, the tamago was wet as if it had neen refrigerated for a while, and besides the salmon and flamed tuna, most fish had hardly any flavour. I did enjoy their lemonades , so props to the bartender and staff lastnight for making our stay enjoyable. It won't make me come back for seconds though

Absolutely blown away by this place! I wasn’t expecting much with a 4.2 rating, but honestly, it deserves a solid 5. Every single dish was incredibly fresh and flavorful — just perfect. From the rolls to the nigiri, everything was beautifully prepared and tasted amazing. A real hidden gem!

A fantastic little all you can eat place, costing around €40 per person for 2.5 hours of all you can of high quality Japanese food.

I never leave a review but after this awful experience I'd like to share why I do NOT recommend this restaurant. After seeing a outstanding 4.2 ⭐️ rating me and my partner decided to go to this restaurant for his birthday, but upon arrival we noticed the entire place was empty. We didn't think much of it since it was quite early on in the evening. We decided on our food and waited for it to be served, while waiting we noticed a cat that was sitting on the couch (where people dine) behind us. I'd like to say that I'm a big animal lover, but having a cat in a restaurant where people dine is very unhygienic and can cause problems for people with allergies, for example my partner felt really uncomfortable with the fact he was eating right next to a cat while he's allergic to them. That being said, when the food arrived at first glance it looked good! Until I started to feel sick, I decided to stop eating and get a box to go. On our way home I started to feel even worse while my partner also started to feel sick. When arriving home it got really bad and we decided to just go to bed, but little did I know I was up the entire night with stomach cramps and the feeling of needing to puke. Eventually I fell asleep but woke up with the same problems, but since my partner felt better he decided to eat the leftovers we took home. But after consuming not even 30 minutes later he got cramps again, so I decided to send them an email regarding the issue with the food we got served since there's obviously something wrong. No response. So we decided to call them, they told us they would respond to our email. Still no response. There seems to be no care for their customers, with the way they handle things. Never going here again.

Sadly I took photos only of what I managed as all of us were starving! Unfortunately not a great experience. Sushi is very disappointing and for that price... 23.50 for a "special" roll. We just wanted a few pieces of sushi and not all you can eat. Of the 5 different types we tried, I can't say that any of them were really tasty. Not rolled well and not fresh. And you get a very small amount of wine, it was not very tasty and turned out to be a real headache wine. It's amazing that after two tastings you feel that it is a very bad wine. The only thing that was good is the service. Two gentlemen who are really very friendly. And the cozy house cat who lies on the couch as nice company. But certainly not worth repeating. Too bad Genki.

Food was pretty good but not worth the price. We ordered pints they gave us half pints. Ordered ice cream that came with baileys but the baileys didn’t come out when we asked to get it taken off the bill they said no. They would only bring the shot even though the ice cream dish was well gone.

Upon entering, the service is attentive and friendly, and they ask if you want to sit inside or outside. They are also clear and attentive when explaining all you can eat. They are quick and friendly when it comes to service and they also clean well in between. The food was very tasty and enough choices, the cocktails are tasty. Definitely a good choice if you want to eat sushi.

We ate very well at this Japanese restaurant. We ate the All you can eat, we couldn't get past the 4th round. The salmon with sake and the beef from the same section are the best on the menu. The lemonades with fruits are great too!

I have been to Genki many times and loved the food, the boys served in the garden were amazing. But on my latest visit, I felt very unpleasant by hearing the father of the owner refer me as "a fly just came in" towards the staff at the bar, in Cantonese and disrespectful way, I was the only customer and only one by the entrance that time. He thought I didn't understand the language. God knows what they would criticize other customers who really don't understand their language. Very unprofessional. I have posted very good review but now I deleted them .

El sushi era genial, sin embargo pedimos sashimi que era demasiado caro y algunos artículos son casi no comestibles. Por lo general, mi pareja y yo estamos obsesionados con el sashimi, pero aquí simplemente no estaba a la altura. El asiento exterior en la parte trasera del restaurante también es increíblemente oscuro y no muy estético o un ambiente agradable.

Always delicious all you can eat sushi. We have been coming there for years and the quality has always remained good. In the summer you can sit in the beautiful garden. They also have a nice cat walking around.

One of the owner, insulted us in Cantonese when we entered by talking to another member of staff. He thought we didn't understand him. "Look the flies start coming" We were the first one to enter.

A great AYCE near het 'Leidseplein'. They have an AYCE menu with some special rolls and items that require an additional payment. The quality of the food is great and they also serve surf clam. Last time I came they did use paper instead of a qr code for ordering, which is great for if your battery is running low :). Definitely a good all you can eat if you are in the neigborhood!

Genki se anuncia como un restaurante de sushi “todo lo que puedas comer”, mientras que no lo es. Todo el mundo que vaya al restaurante por la opción de todo lo que pueda comer debe saber que lo primero que los empleados le dicen cuando realiza su primer pedido es que hay un límite de 5 rondas de pedidos y, en cada pedido, cada persona solo puede pedir 5 piezas. Obviamente, esto no es todo lo que puedes comer. Además de esto, esta política contradice la página web del restaurante, , que menciona expresamente que “NO hay rondas máximas” en la opción de todo lo que puedas comer. Además, la opción de todo lo que pueda comer no incluye una sección relevante del menú, donde por ejemplo se incluye el sushi de fusión. Para estos, usted pagará por separado. El resultado de todo esto es que, al final, cada cliente termina pagando (al menos) 40 € por un (falso) todo lo que pueda comer. En el menú a la carta, lo más probable es que las piezas de la misma cantidad le cuesten lo mismo o menos. La calidad del sushi es promedio. Por mi parte, nunca volveré a este restaurante ya que hace publicidad falsa para atraer clientes y luego cambia las reglas cuando los clientes no tienen opción de irse.

Everything was good. The sushi was fresh and tasty, the menu had a good variety of items. The staff was very attentive and friendly. When I told them that my phone battery was dying they offered to charge it for me. Being a tourist in a foreign country, away from my hotel, and heavily relying on my iphone to pay for purchases, get to places by using Google maps and getting Uber to take me places, it is not an exaggeration to say that they saved my life by charging my phone. Truly appreciate this simple jester of kindness and understanding.

Ended up here looking for sushi on a terrace. What a nice and special place in the middle of Amsterdam, eaten in the courtyard: beautiful, quiet and good quality sushi. The only thing that was disappointing was the fried calamari, which was a bit tough... otherwise a delicious meal. I will definitely be back

The worst place where I have ever eaten sushi!!!(((I ordered an eel roll that had bones in it (I attached the video). After I called the administrator and he said that this is normal, bones are normal, I I realized that this was the bottom, and not an establishment. Instead of an apology and a discount, he said, yes, the bones in the role are normal!!! But if I or my mother pricked myself with them, is it really so difficult to cut off the fin along with the bones? bony fish! there are no words, just a terrible establishment and service, I hope the administrator is fired!

Yesterday, July 25, 2024, I celebrated my BIRTHDAY with my son in the beautiful outdoor garden, enjoyed the hydrangeas and roses and lots of greenery. The food is VERY DELICIOUS and the staff is very nice. Was also treated to ice cream with fireworks, what a beautiful memory, Thank you!!! Definitely recommended if you REALLY WANT TO ENJOY!!!

Used the "All You Can Eat" menu. Delicious food, very friendly service and it is beautiful behind the shop (in the garden). As for the food, it was very well prepared. It was ready quickly and very tasty. There were (slightly too) many dishes with teriyaki sauce and the lamb chops were overcooked. Apart from that, a really good tent.

Food was great, some of the portions were ridiculously large, like ordering 1 x bananas at the end of the meal and we receive two plates with 6 or so bananas on each. While I understand that they need to earn money, the drinks are overpriced and as a non-dutch person I was honestly confused that the amount of drinks you get was only on the menu for a select few.

This is a restaurant where everything has been thought about. Warm welcome, neatly brought to your table and drinks immediately. This order is very pleasant at a sushi restaurant. I've been coming here for about 12 years. The sushi is always consistent and never deviates.

Genki is good sushi, and I say that as a SEASONED sushi eater from Australia. But the price is the killer here - it’s a little OP for the meal. But otherwise, Genki is fresh, friendly, and delicious.
