Kagetsu Hartenstraat in Grachtengordel-West

Hello, the souvenir I bought from the Van Gogh Museum seems to have fallen into the restaurant!! I am a guest on the second floor on the night of the 11th. If you have seen it, please contact me! Thank you very much!

Had 4 rolls, tonkatsu appetizer and fried tofu appetizer. All lacked flavor, though the ingredients were fresh. The prices were a touch high for the dishes presented.

Terrible staff! I wanted to go to the toilet on King's Day (understandable that you have to pay for it on such a day). I order a dish and pay €6 (the need was that great). I would get a stuffed rice ball. They gave a ball with rice and two beans in it. In addition, the store was empty and I was spoken to in a very humiliating manner by the lady behind the cash register. Gave a very unpleasant and bad feeling.

My friend and I passed by this restaurant and took a seat on a whim. When we were walked in we were greeted with a warm smile from the staff currently on shift yesterday. She was very sweet and welcoming. We asked if there were tables available and she said yes. We took a seat by the front window at first and the staff had told us that we were also allowed to sit upstairs where it's a little warmer. We ordered beers, curry and a udon. It took about 15-20 minutes for the food to arrive. The prices were quite alright. We often eat at another place for much cheaper but it's also in a smaller portion. In our opinion the price was fair. The quality of the food was pretty good. I enjoyed my meal, I would love to frequent here more often with my friend if we had the spendings to. The interior is also quite nice. Thanks for having us!

To be fair, the food quality is average or slightly below average, but make sure to plenty of time because it takes at least an hour to get your food after you put the order (which is already 30 mins after you sit down).

Very cozy, quiet atmosphere. Good service. very fine food. Hebn specially converted a meat dish into vegetarian without any problems. would highly recommend it

Super cuper, small place. The chicken curry, and teriyaki chicken were very good. The deep fried veggies were good but a little small portion for the price. Very nice staff

The waiter was very friendly, took my order quickly, and the food came out quickly. The price wasn't too bad and the meal was delicious!!!!!!! Absolutely delicious. The interior is pretty and the bathroom is clean, so I'm satisfied. I was skeptical because the reviews are half bad, but I'm very satisfied.

Delicious. Good food. Enough choice. Cool environment, good atmosphere and nice service. Not very crowded, sorry for them, lucky for us.

I think I'll be a regular after my first visit to this small Japanese place that has been in the 9streets for more than 15 years. Very tasty, very fresh. The service could be better but the place gets busy quickly and it's difficult to manage by one person as it seems it's the case. Take a chill pill and enjoy their lovely dishes. Kudos to the chef!

Amazing sushi, business is run by a woman with such great attentive staff!! The fish btw here is so fresh and the tea is how it should be! Highly recommended!

Bento besteld, curry. Lekker, net genoeg. Min punt: plastic bento plus plastic tas. Geen servetje geen chopsticks. Tip: small salade voor €4,- als extra optie

Endroit très sympathique. Serveuse très gentille. La nourriture était délicieuse et en très bonne quantité. Je conseille fortement ce restaurant japonais.

Dont go here if you are looking for good Japanese food. Many Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam offer better quality food. Hand rolls are soft, not crispy, katsu curry is not tender, and simply poor meat. Desserts: although both seems attractive, dont waste your money. Service is good.

The food is not something to write home about. The staff at the time did not have any knowledge about the food. The atmosphere is nice though. A place to get away from a busy city

You are better off eating sushi elsewhere. The meat (warm foods) are decent. Service speed is average...

The service is really slooooooow! We had been waiting for 30 minutes before the drinks arrived and another 45 minutes before the food arrived!!!! 😱😱😱 We ordered salmon sashimi. It was fresh and good. Tempura is delicious and icecream tempura for dessert is good! The price is reasonable. The staff is good at keeping saying sorry but not improve the service itself. So if you go there, be very patient with the service!

Heerlijk eten. We hadden sushi en de japanse beef yakiniku, een echte aanrader. Ontzettend aardig personeel en snelle service.

The chicken katsu with curry is amazing, chicken is very crunchy outside and tender on the inside. Sushi also tastes very fresh. Cozy interior. Definitely recommend!

Behalve zeer goede sushi zijn er ook veel warme gerechten beschikbaar. De aanrader tegen mijn gewoonte in, is het dessert met ijs. Normaal vindt ik dat geen bal aan, maar deze autentieke smaken zijn echt de moeite waard. Ben verschillende keren geweest en heb gezien dat er een constante kwaliteit is. Wel weinig Japans personeel, ik meende het algemeen gebruikte Chinese Mandarijn te herkennen.

Kagetsu is a cosy Japanese restaurant in the heart of west Amsterdam. The atmosphere is comfortable and quiet, nice seats with street view for the solo travellers and the food is good quality. The serving possibly lacks that quintessential Japanese presentation, maybe it’s more westernised than it should (btw I’m never in fav of westernisation of food), but it’s surely tasty, no big deal then. The service, another major pillar for any review, is effective, discrete and timely, what else could one ask for? In conclusion Kagetsu is a cool alternative to other more familiar cuisines if you are strolling through west Amsterdam and wondering where to have a bite. Enjoy 😉

Best place for reasonably priced sushi

The atmosphere is quite cool and cozy. Overall arrangement of the dishes looked very inauthentic, and the sushi was falling apart. Staff didn't serve us properly.

Unfortunately the quality of the food has dropped since I last visited this place a few years ago. I could have rolled the sushi better at home - it was falling apart and in mismatched sizes - and there was a random piece of tomato and lettuce on the side of every dish which made the food very inauthentic... the beef was also overcooked and chewy. Additionally the staff serving us said about two words the entire time and apparently tap water doesn't exist in the place (I guess they don't have running water?). I used to really like Kagetsu - it has a nice venue and the food used to be great, but now it has some work to do.

A cozy nice little Japanese restaurant, offers variety of Japanese food. Due to Covid, we can only order the take away/delivery. Though the bento boxes are truly amazing, the katsu curry came with the perfect temperature that it did not required another heat up. The sushi is also amazing just as usual, tasty and great portion. Updated as at 19/JUN/2021: Not sure if the chef has changed, the recent food quality has become very poor and the portion has shrunk as well. The sushi were falling apart and not fresh, especially the tamago nigiri tasted like as if it’s been inside the fridge for long time. Though the hot food still seemed okay, I guess I will need to find a new decent place in central for sushi.

Eigentlich ganz ok. Suppe hat etwas fad geschmeckt. Hab mir etwas mehr Geschmack erwartet. Fleisch vom Grill, richtig lecker. Und vom Spinat waren genau 2 Blätter drin. Menge war okay. Aber Für 15euro pro Suppe erwarte ich etwas mehr, als lauwarm mit zu wenig würze.
