George LA in Laren

Lunch with a kale-avocado/apple/feta salad. A bit too much wasabi dressing, but tasty. Relatively small portion. Mainly bisque, decent and flavorful.

A few days ago, we went to George Laren for dinner, where we unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience. Upon arrival, we asked if we could have a table. The guy behind the bar (a guy with a ponytail) immediately told us there was no room—neither inside nor outside—even though there were several tables available on the terrace. We found this odd and decided to leave. Out of curiosity, I checked online to see if reservations were still possible. To our surprise, I was able to make a reservation for 10 minutes later. We walked back and mentioned this to the same employee, who seemed a bit uneasy and said, "Smart move on your part." We were then seated—at a small bistro table, even though there were also regular tables available. He told us we'd have to wait 45 minutes for our food because it was "busy." He remained on his phone behind the bar, and it was clear he didn't want to help us any further. Even the people next to us spoke to us because they were also dissatisfied with the service. Luckily, we were kindly helped by another employee and received our food within 15 minutes. We've eaten here before, but this was the first time we truly felt unwelcome. What made it even more galling was that other guests without reservations were still being helped and allowed to sit at their tables. The whole situation felt discriminatory. We often go to George Amsterdam and never had any problems, but unfortunately, we're no longer going to George Laren. It's a shame, because we loved coming here.

The host was so unfriendly that we actually wanted to leave immediately. This was the second time this man had been unfriendly. When we asked if we could move to the shade, his curt reply was, "Yes, everyone wants that!" This man is a complete unsuitable host. This is how you drive customers away.

Quick lunch before heading to the museum. Delicious food and friendly staff.

I went here for dinner yesterday with a friend. We'd made a reservation well in advance, but the table wasn't ready yet and still needed to be cleared and set. I don't think there were even 10 tables occupied all evening. When we were escorted to our table, it took 30 minutes before we were met by neighbors, but they were immediately given our menus and drinks. The waiter turned around and quickly gave us one as well. He thought he was quite something with his Gooische accent. The starter was fine, but the main course (truffle ravioli) was cold inside for some. We weren't asked if everything was alright, and when we finally wanted to pay, we had to go find the waiter, who had already gone and chatted at another table for a very long time. We were able to pay with another young man who was very polite, but that was definitely the younger staff who did a very good job. I would assign that older waiter to a different job, because speaking to guests like that is unacceptable!

Too expensive and too much ambition. Staff is derogatory about other guests!

Looks cozy, the food is fine but very little and the staff clearly feels they are too good for the work they are paid for.

It was a hot summer evening and we had dinner at the terras. The staff was very friendly, a good host and the food was great!

On May 2nd we ate on the terrace. After seeing the menu, I really wanted a plate of spaghetti carbonara. A vision of a mouthful of pasta in a creamy, shiny and silky sauce. The disappointment was great when we devoured a pile of dry pasta with a not so great carbonara taste. A lost spaghetti carbonara.

Two weeks ago I came here for dinner with a friend. I had asked in advance for a slightly larger table because of my laptop. That was not possible, while 70% of the tables were empty. Fine, I just sat down. No one came to us for the first half hour. Eventually I had to call someone myself to ask for a menu. In the meantime, the couple next to us were immediately helped and served in a friendly manner — we still weren't. When we were finally able to order, they got their food. The waiter immediately moved an extra table for them, without them asking. I asked if that was also possible for us. His reaction: irritated "no, that table is reserved." I asked why it was possible for them. The waiter became aggressive: "You are not going to lecture me here." I was shocked and said that this is no way to talk to guests. He started shouting: "I AM 67 YEARS OLD, I AM NOT GOING TO DISCUSS WITH YOU!" I then walked inside to ask the manager. But before he did, the waiter came up to me, yelled in my face: "YOU ARE SO PITTY, HIM, and continued to intimidate The manager said it was his first day. A moment later, the waiter came back: "THE MANAGER MADE ME APOLOGIZE." The manager promised that I would hear back within a week. Never heard back. This was the worst experience I have ever had. The way we were treated felt demeaning and prejudiced — it came across as racist. No guest should be treated like this.

Been a few times now, but each time it becomes more commercial and less good. Asked for steak tartare without onion…. That didn't work, it just happened, wine cooler never arrived, tap water 6 euros, Tiramisu finished, coffee Brasil didn't work, no lemon with the fish so I had to ask, also had to ask for salt and pepper. Just not that good. Toilet was just a mess.

Wonderful ambiance, enjoyed lobster with my companions. Everyone complains about the price, what do you expect when you eat at George's?

Beautiful terrace. Everyone wants to sit outside at the first rays of sunshine. We had gotten a table. Ordered Gin and Tonic. The fryer was broken so no bitterballen :-( Big shock at checkout: 29 euros for 2 GT. Even the waiter himself was shocked :-)

Price-quality ratio severely below par. Never again to George.

Had a super delicious meal tonight! We personally think the average score is far too low. Salmon and ribeye were delicious! Ambience, hospitality, service more than good (also for the kids), we will definitely come back here!

We were kindly received and guided to our table. Had to wait a long time for a menu and drinks. Then an employee comes up to us and asks why we sat here, who gave us this table? She thought we belonged to a different company (very strange). Don't expect high-quality dishes. It is a simple bistro menu. Unfortunately, it always took a long time for the drinks or dishes to reach our table. Where they forgot the tuna in the salad with seafood and tuna. Quality was very poor. A friendly good day or goodbye was inevitable afterwards.

After a visit to the Singer museum, we had lunch with George with 4 people. Was very busy on the terrace and therefore had to sit inside. No problem. The lunch menu does not provide much information, so we only ordered 4 club sandwiches. Always good you would say. For € 17.50 (chicken avocado) resp. For €18.50 (classic) you got something that is better and healthier in many eateries or refined snack bars. The drink prices are very high (for example €4.00 for still water), but hey, you are in the Gooi. The service was good by the way.

Bad experience. We were placed on the terrace. Another couple caught up with us and they sat down at our assigned table. The only table that was still available. Staff saw it and looked away. It gave us an unpleasant feeling.

After visiting the Singer, have lunch at George LA. Outside we were seated at a round table on the edge of the terrace. Great place we thought. Our young waiter/waiter was clearly not in the mood. Very curt and unfriendly. We had a nice meal, but this boy's behavior left a negative mark on our lunch as far as we were concerned. Shame. When we wanted to pay we were unable to get any attention from the staff. Bad. Finally we started waving their arms in the air extensively until someone could no longer ignore us. Too bad about this experience with George.

Had lunch on the terrace yesterday afternoon. Given the sometimes very negative reactions, I went there with mixed feelings. Ultimately, we ate and drank well. Service attentive and friendly and the location is of course beautiful. Quite pricey, especially if you also order a side dish. I would approach those few spinach leaves differently. All in all a great one.

Had my birthday lunch here with family, food was really good and the atmosphere is also nice and cosy. Definitely recommend!

Lunch today. Staff is really friendly but not really paying attention to there surroundings and guests. Food was so so, fries too fried and just a very small portion. Tournedos of almost 40 euro was close to done, while asked for medium rare. Paloma cocktail tasted like just a soda drink, no cocktail vibes at all. Overall the setting is really nice and people in the service are very kind, but the quality especially in drinks and food can really use an upgrade.

The staff was also busy with the rather famous football coach who sat one table next to us. Of course we had to ask if she wanted to clear the table and if we could have the bill. You understand that dessert was not included. Once at checkout, not a nice day, thank you or goodbye. Dear readers, skip this restaurant. Waste of your money! And for the owner/manager, time for a change after all these bad reviews, right?

After a visit to the Singer Museum, we had lunch at George's. Very hospitable reception, coats were accepted, nice table of your choice, and immediately a card and the question if we wanted something to drink. Fine! Delicious eggs benedict and a croque madam with a glass of excellent house wine. Upon departure, the coats were handed over again by one of those attentive and nice guys, he walked to the door to say goodbye. Small gesture but so nice!

Just awful service! We were waiting for more than 15 minutes to get a menu card, and when we asked the waiter for the 3rd time, he said that he was waiting for our drinks to come first. Why?? I just want to look the menu while I wait for the drinks. And every time he was coming back from one table he would literally collect 1 singles glass, and then come back with empty hand again. Staff definitely need more training asap!

Had lunch on the terrace today without a reservation in advance. That was possible at a small round table with the three of us. Nice menu but prices on the spicy side. We order and wait. I think 1 thick fresh brown sandwich with some avocado, feta and pomegranate seeds for €15.00 is really overpriced. It's not the location and service, but I won't be back. There are plenty of customers who want to spend their good money here. Oh yes: the salt container is still dirty.

Everything we experienced today is wrong. Service staff do not see you, they only pay attention to each other and neighbors. Table had not been cleaned properly. Every order we placed (after a long wait) went wrong, dishes were forgotten, we had to repeatedly ask for things. Food was poorly prepared: vegetables that were too salty (served after the main course..), completely overcooked fish, dry hamburger. Everything was mediocre. I had to wait a long time at the bar until I was "allowed" to pay: a bill that was absolutely far too high for the poor quality. Also made the mistake of going to the toilet: disgusting at its finest. Really avoid this tent. Oh, a beautiful place and a beautiful terrace.

Beautiful building, premises and nice decor that super seeded the lagging number of staff to service the evening sitting. The staff though undernummberer were kind and attentive. Overpriced mains; ordinary pub standard charading as Parisian bistro. Clearly a tired concept that isn’t delivering the promise for the expense.

George LA is located just outside the center of Laren. Large attractive terrace.. friendly staff.. nice relaxed atmosphere!! we had dinner, which was very good!!

Caesar salad contained almost only lettuce with the coarse core still in it and basic salad dressing. 2 mini pieces of anchovies and fatty croutons. Chicken was tasty. A dirty salt container on the table is really unacceptable. Why the map only in English? Price quality very disappointing. Staff were friendly and provided a free cup of coffee to soften the disappointment.

Simply good, and definitely worth it. I never look at the price if it is good. But a cold cup of coffee abroad for 30 euros would really break the bank. This is where you spend your money and it is respected and translated into quality and service. A concept that usually does not exist in the Netherlands, rustic and completely devoid of any “savoir vivre” Come here, highly recommended in that regard! Keep this level high! Compliments to everyone!

Nice ambiance and excellent service. Food really substandard. My girlfriend and I ordered a salmon/ham sandwich. You get a tiny bun that is halved and roasted black. Very thin slice of ham or salmon on top. Add a poached egg, one of which is snot and the other too hard. For 17 euros really below par. We asked for extra toast because the bread burned and we had to pay for that too. I wouldn't come back here anytime soon.

We wanted to have lunch somewhere different and ended up in Laren. The fish soup and shrimp cocktail tasted delicious as a starter. A tournedos, salad with fish and salmon that was what the second round brought us. Tournedos and salmon were both very tasty and well prepared. The salad with fish was richly filled with fish, but it had nothing to do with a salad. It was mainly a lot of lettuce. Finally the tarte tatin. It was disappointing and not interesting. The price quality was and is super high. €55 per person is really out of proportion, but perhaps this is quite normal in Laren.

A terrific location in Laren, great to get some fondue, oyster rockerfeller, and gin and tonics. Polite staff and atmosphere for a romantic and nice dining experience.

Had a 3 course dinner. Everything was served quite quickly, good and friendly service. Onion soup as starter was quite salty and so were the fries with the main course. In general it was ok, could be better for the price you paid. I had to pay €1 for a slice of orange with the ginger tea.

De locatie is leuk. Er hangt een warme sfeer in het restaurant, niet te formeel. Dit betekent ook papier op de tafel op het kleed, dat voelde een beetje pannenkoeken restaurant. De bediening was vriendelijk maar wat onervaren. De cocktails kwamen na het voorgerecht, de koffie na het dessert en niet tegelijkertijd zoals gevraagd. Het eten was smakelijk, de rekening fors.

Ongeïnteresseerde bediening van jonge dame, zeer slechte service. Eten onder de maat voor de prijs. Meubilair is wel aan vervanging toe.

Weer eens een uitstekende steak gegeten, vriendelijke bediening en redelijk geprijsd, wij komen zeker weer terug!

In all honesty, it was bit disappointing. 16 Euros for a small Carpaccio and 23 euros for a regular burger with French fries. Long waiting time before diner got served.

Mooi terras voor een drankje in de zon; goede wijnkaart en lekkere bitterballen. De service was onze laatste bezoeken erg goed; vriendelijk, attent, snel en oplettend. Keep going!

Het was de eerste en meteen laatste keer dat we bij George LA hebben gelunched. We werden door een meisje vriendelijk ontvangen maar een jongen die ons bediende deed het ongeïnteresseerd. Daarbij kwam dat we het eten te duur vonden voor het weinige eten dat we kregen. En kwalitatief onder de maat. Ook lauwe cappuccino (hadden we moeten melden). De bediening maakte fouten en toen we nog aan het eten waren werd al gevraagd of we klaar waren. Dat gebeurde daarna nogmaals! Onbeschoft. Afrekenen ging ook matig. Geen enkel woordje erbij of een bedankje.

Mooi ruim terras recht tegenover het Singer museum maar de bediening liet te wensen over.

Met de familie heerlijk wezen lunchen. Genoten van heerlijke menukeuzes en alles was even lekker. Vriendelijke bediening en swingende muziek uit de eighties met een knipoog naar mijn jeugd. En dan natuurlijk de bijzondere Gastvrijheid met een hoofdletter G van de gastheer Robert himself maakte dit tot een ervaring waar we lang en met veel plezier aan terugdenken. Aanrader!

Wonder boven wonder, mochten we op een zaterdagavond zonder reservering gaan eten. Tournedos was heerlijk. Eggplant was mwah. Crème brule was ook heel goed. Super aardig personeel. Ongedwongen sfeer.

Vriendelijke mensen en prima bediening. Verder een heerlijke lunch. Snap de ophef niet zo. Maar goed, mensen in deze omgeving nemen zichzelf sowieso iets te serieus.

Het is het net allemaal niet en dan nog redelijk duur. De aankleding is koud en de bediening zijn veel jonge mensen met weinig ervaring. Het eten is niet slecht maar ook zeker niet geweldig en voor wat je krijg veel te duur.

Het was het allemaal net niet en dat is lief gezegd. Tournedos veel verder doorgebakken dan verzocht. Zalm bijna rauw geserveerd en de miso korst is te zoet. Kids hotdog is beter bij de Hema. Van de Carpaccio was het vlees echt heerlijk, maar een klein sausje was op zn plek geweest. Service was chaotisch, onkundig en onopgeleid. Prijs kwaliteit verhouding is totaal niet kloppend. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar
