We saw quite a few mice in the Garden ...otherwise the food and service were good!

Unfortunately, it did not meet expectations; the steak was difficult to chew. Not recommended.

George LA isn't what it used to be. I hadn't been there for a while and always had good experiences, but this time it was downright bad. Waiters handing glasses with their fingers where you're supposed to drink, passing plates around when there are only four of you at the table and they could easily walk around it. And side dishes where you pay top dollar for 11 raw green beans. Only the price is high, not the quality.

Yesterday during lunch, I thoroughly enjoyed, among other things, a fantastic kale-avocado salad. On the beautiful terrace of George L.A. with very friendly service. Definitely recommended.

This afternoon, we had a business lunch on the beautiful terrace of George L.A. in Laren. There was a great atmosphere, both among the guests and the George staff, as well as among the colleagues. We were served most kindly by Valerie. The lunch was delicious: really good coffee, avocado toast, and a classic Caesar salad. Despite the crowds, we weren't rushed out; on the contrary. So, it is definitely worth having lunch, drinks, or dinner on perhaps the most beautiful terrace in Laren, especially in this lovely weather.

Nice restaurant, cozy terrace. Really nice atmosphere. The food was fine but nothing amazing, especially not for that price. We received our starter after waiting 45 minutes, and only then our drinks. We also had to wait 45 minutes for our dessert after ordering. We would have liked a coffee afterwards, but the waitresses walked past us 20 times, so after waiting for half an hour we were pretty much done.

Both the tuna and steak tartare were excellent, and it was nice to see the steak tartare being prepared at the table. The only real negative was the Pasta Carbonara: the pasta was not al dente, the sauce was thick and sticky, greasy, and with very few bacon bits; in short, definitely not recommended. My advice would be to improve the recipe or take it off the menu...

One of the worst places I have ever eaten. The food was of very poor quality and ridiculously expensive. You can tell immediately that the products are not fresh. They even looked old-fashioned; I would never go back there again, even if there were no other places in Laren.

Only had a drink, but it was pricey, no choice of draft beers, and little to no attention for customers. The terrace was nice though.

We wanted a cup of coffee around 2 in the afternoon. During the fifteen minutes we had to wait for it, we heard the waiter say that people who hadn't reserved could go up to the roof. Just so you know. I paid cash but didn't get the change back. I just didn't ask for it anymore. Not hospitable. They even refused guests too.. They thought it was very busy, with 5 waitstaff. The coffee was good, by the way.

First time at George Laren and certainly not the last! The food was really delicious and the service was simply top-notch — friendly and attentive without being overdone. I was pleasantly impressed. I was greeted at the door with my dog ​​by a very friendly young man, and within a few moments I was sitting at a table with a glass of wine, water—'chilled or at room temperature, ma'am'—and water for my dog. My company and I ate a delicious, tender half chicken, haricots and fries, 4 glasses of wine (Viognier/Chardonnay), and a bread basket with butter. Everything was delicious; just good bistro food. Everyone serving was super friendly and the bill was very reasonable too. I was truly pleasantly impressed, so those 3.5 stars amaze me enormously. Have a nice evening, thank you.

After a disastrous experience last September, things have improved very much at this gorgeous terrace.

Nice and cheerful service, great menu, and fine food. Cozy place inside with a DJ and a somewhat younger crowd compared to most places in the area. The half chicken as a main course was mediocre, the rest of the food was good.

A bottle of water, bread, and olives, and you're 19 euros poorer without batting an eyelid. Plain steak tartare on your plate for 25 euros. A 28-euro steak with salad dumped on your plate without any dressing. Unfortunately, once is enough, never again. We're moving on. It's a real shame that nothing was done about the other negative reviews.

Lovely weather, so we had lunch on the terrace with 4 people. The menu is only in English because they also have restaurants in Amsterdam! Is Amsterdam in England? Service was quick and okay. Food good but not very special. I had poached eggs with salmon. I think the yolk is supposed to be soft so that it runs out when you cut into it. This yolk ran out too, but it was more like rolling. As hard as a marble. Restaurant prices are steep these days, but €9 for a glass of wine is, in my opinion, a bit excessive. Next time I'll have lunch somewhere else in Laren.

Despite a reservation clearly stating that we were celebrating a birthday, no one knew anything about it upon arrival. No smile, no congratulations, nothing. Besides the lack of hospitality, basic etiquette is nowhere to be found: teach your team the code regarding ladies. In a place like this, you are supposed to serve the woman first, not last. The burgers, which were supposed to be ‘medium rare,’ arrived overcooked. The result? My son and husband had to wait 50 minutes for their new food while the rest were already finished. So, eating together on a birthday was out of the question. When settling the bill, not a single gesture of apology for the inconvenience, no complimentary drink, nothing. To top it all off, the maître d' asked if we were going to do anything fun while we were paying. When I mentioned for the third time that it was his birthday, he looked ashamed. My tip: close the place down.

Lunch consisted of avocado/tuna salad followed by classic steak frites. It was supposed to be served with lamb's lettuce, which was a huge disappointment. Going in here was a huge mistake. It ruined our whole afternoon! We got distracted by the fact that we were craving cheese fondue! The waiter told us they had the best cheese fondue. He's a real liar! The sauce was disgusting. Just like the waiter's apron. My stomach turned upside down just looking at it. The cheese fondue is 25 euros, but you expect more than that. Next to us were two men drinking beer. They were exaggeratingly complaining about how busy it was for a Sunday. The waiter also asked them excessively if everything was to their liking. Haha, luckily, there's nothing wrong with beer. It seemed like they were there on purpose to fill tables.

Upon entering, it was clear they'd spent a lot of time creating a Christmassy atmosphere, but that's about it. First, they asked if they wanted water (still or sparkling). Bottles were on the table. If you declined, the bottles were thrown away. We came for the cheese fondue (which they boasted was from the best cheesemonger (apparently a cheese jeweler). But it was lukewarm, insipid, and the size of a starter. And when we complained, the response was that no one had complained about the product, and if I wanted more, I'd have to pay for it. There was no room for discussion. Besides the young waitstaff, I think the young woman in charge was incapable of making an acceptable decision on her own, other than simply coming over with a pen and paper to get a phone number. Apparently, whoever put cheese fondue on the menu had never tasted the cheese fondue where it originated.

Well, what can I say? You expect quality in Laren, but...it was a major disappointment. The food was okay but nothing special, and everything was quite expensive. The stay was unpleasant: far too cold, sewer smells all the way up to the table, poor acoustics, and mice running around inside trying to snatch a crumb. Very unpleasant. Given all the negative reviews, George is apparently failing to reverse this negative trend. A minor blemish is certainly allowed, but this is below par. I won't be back until things have drastically changed.

We found the staff unfriendly, and it was cold inside. Some people were given blankets to protect them from the cold, while someone else kept their coat on. It's not pleasant to sit in a cold restaurant. The food is okay, but I don't go to a restaurant for that. I have higher expectations.

To be fair, the food and ambiance are good. The staff was friendly, but: Upon arrival, we were immediately asked if we wanted some bread, water, and olives. They didn't mention that the cost for these was €18.50. Furthermore, the staff also said (I'm a vegetarian and therefore don't eat fish) that the anchovies were just a flavoring and didn't actually contain anchovies. This turned out not to be the case. There were indeed anchovies in the olives. The bread for the cheese fondue was brown. We asked if we could have white bread instead, as we have an intolerance to brown bread. This was brought, but we were charged twice for €6.50. So, we paid €19.50 for the bread. We also found it quite annoying that different staff members were asking if everything was to our liking literally every five minutes. The intention was good, but when you're having a conversation, you don't want to be interrupted constantly. And we weren't asked four times if we wanted another drink (because the wine was gone, but we'd already said three times that we still had to drive and therefore didn't want any more). Moreover, the €6.50 water wasn't even close to being finished. We finally left after an hour and a half. I contacted the restaurant and received a polite reply saying that if we came back for dinner, they would give us an aperitif on the house... We won't be back.

Update after our last visit (24/08/25). The food is good but the team badly needs training. We waited for almost 10 minutes by the sign ‘wait to be seated’ and were simply ignored!! We eventually chose a table and had to wait a moment to get someone’s attention. We already knew what we wanted: my wife ordered a steak and fries and myself a steak tartare. I admit I was not specific about side dish but it would be advisable the waiter makes suggestions like “would you fancy some fries or salad …?” (in marketing it’s called upselling).

After waiting an hour and a half, we finally got our lunch. We asked several times where our food was. After complaining, we were given a free second drink. Unfortunately, it didn't arrive until we were almost finished. The salad and the rest of the lunch weren't great either. In short, absolutely not recommended.

We were then seated—at a small bistro table, even though there were also regular tables available. He told us we'd have to wait 45 minutes for our food because it was "busy." He remained on his phone behind the bar, and it was clear he didn't want to help us any further. Even the people next to us spoke to us because they were also dissatisfied with the service. Luckily, we were kindly helped by another employee and received our food within 15 minutes. We've eaten here before, but this was the first time we truly felt unwelcome. What made it even more galling was that other guests without reservations were still being helped and allowed to sit at their tables. The whole situation felt discriminatory. We often go to George Amsterdam and never had any problems, but unfortunately, we're no longer going to George Laren. It's a shame, because we loved coming here.

The host was so unfriendly that we actually wanted to leave immediately. This was the second time this man had been unfriendly. When we asked if we could move to the shade, his curt reply was, "Yes, everyone wants that!" This man is a complete unsuitable host. This is how you drive customers away.

I went here for dinner yesterday with a friend. We'd made a reservation well in advance, but the table wasn't ready yet and still needed to be cleared and set. I don't think there were even 10 tables occupied all evening. When we were escorted to our table, it took 30 minutes before we were met by neighbors, but they were immediately given our menus and drinks. The waiter turned around and quickly gave us one as well. He thought he was quite something with his Gooische accent. The starter was fine, but the main course (truffle ravioli) was cold inside for some. We weren't asked if everything was alright, and when we finally wanted to pay, we had to go find the waiter, who had already gone and chatted at another table for a very long time. We were able to pay with another young man who was very polite, but that was definitely the younger staff who did a very good job. I would assign that older waiter to a different job, because speaking to guests like that is unacceptable!

On May 2nd we ate on the terrace. After seeing the menu, I really wanted a plate of spaghetti carbonara. A vision of a mouthful of pasta in a creamy, shiny and silky sauce. The disappointment was great when we devoured a pile of dry pasta with a not so great carbonara taste. A lost spaghetti carbonara.

Two weeks ago I came here for dinner with a friend. I had asked in advance for a slightly larger table because of my laptop. That was not possible, while 70% of the tables were empty. Fine, I just sat down. No one came to us for the first half hour. Eventually I had to call someone myself to ask for a menu. In the meantime, the couple next to us were immediately helped and served in a friendly manner — we still weren't. When we were finally able to order, they got their food. The waiter immediately moved an extra table for them, without them asking. I asked if that was also possible for us. His reaction: irritated "no, that table is reserved." I asked why it was possible for them. The waiter became aggressive: "You are not going to lecture me here." I was shocked and said that this is no way to talk to guests. He started shouting: "I AM 67 YEARS OLD, I AM NOT GOING TO DISCUSS WITH YOU!" I then walked inside to ask the manager. But before he did, the waiter came up to me, yelled in my face: "YOU ARE SO PITTY, HIM, and continued to intimidate The manager said it was his first day. A moment later, the waiter came back: "THE MANAGER MADE ME APOLOGIZE." The manager promised that I would hear back within a week. Never heard back. This was the worst experience I have ever had. The way we were treated felt demeaning and prejudiced — it came across as racist. No guest should be treated like this.

Been a few times now, but each time it becomes more commercial and less good. Asked for steak tartare without onion…. That didn't work, it just happened, wine cooler never arrived, tap water 6 euros, Tiramisu finished, coffee Brasil didn't work, no lemon with the fish so I had to ask, also had to ask for salt and pepper. Just not that good. Toilet was just a mess.

Lunch today. Staff is really friendly but not really paying attention to there surroundings and guests. Food was so so, fries too fried and just a very small portion. Tournedos of almost 40 euro was close to done, while asked for medium rare. Paloma cocktail tasted like just a soda drink, no cocktail vibes at all. Overall the setting is really nice and people in the service are very kind, but the quality especially in drinks and food can really use an upgrade.
