Mauve Restaurant & Bar in Laren

Slow service, beautiful location Had lunch twice, June 26 and 28, 2026

I had heard promising things about Mauve, so tonight I decided to give it a try myself. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and unfortunately, that one was not convincing. For starters, I had the steak tartare with egg yolk. The quality of the meat was fine, but the dish was rather bland in taste. The pickles were a bit dry and lacked the fresh bite you expect from a good steak tartare. Even a few drops of Tabasco did little to change that. The same applied to the tournedos as the main course: the meat was cooked perfectly, but the Roquefort sauce was watery and lacked flavor and character. Fortunately, the staff at Mauve agreed with me. Since I was already well underway with the dish, I ate it anyway. As a thoughtful gesture, I was offered a dessert on the house. Thamar's cheese board was unfortunately also disappointing. If you are hungry, you won't get very far with this: a few stray pieces of cheese, a teaspoon of apple syrup, six grapes, and a handful of walnuts. I ultimately didn't pay for it, but even at the normal price, I wouldn't have considered this good value for money. Positive point: the staff was friendly and responded politely to the feedback. That made the experience somewhat pleasant, but from a culinary perspective, this first encounter fell short of expectations.

My wife and I had lunch here. 2 beef croquettes with bread. When cut open, it looked more like a vegetable croquette, but upon inquiry, they said it was a beef croquette after all. We found perhaps 1 or 2 pieces of meat in both croquettes. I had a Caesar salad myself. It was a tossed-up lettuce with an awful lot of some kind of mayonnaise dressing, with a few pieces of egg and bacon. It didn't look appetizing and wasn't tasty either. Conclusion: once is enough, never again.

Had a delicious meal on a nice terrace on the Brink with good service.

Today in the epicenter of the Gooi, Laren. That leads you quickly to Mauve. Centrally located on Laren's promenade, it is a pleasant place to be. Ordered: Affligem Triple and 8 cheese sticks. When checking in, I was initially overlooked; that can happen, but it wasn't exactly hospitable. Here too, apparently the new normal: friendly behavior from the staff. Something I don't take kindly to. Afterwards, no one asked if everything was to our liking, not even at the table behind me where champagne was definitely being drunk. Very strange. This is definitely an area for improvement, Mauve! With the 2nd order, I didn't even get a freshly rinsed glass..... Another recommendation: Install lighting on the steps leading to the toilets, because you can't see anything from the light to the dark. An older lady in front of me almost fell down the stairs. Otherwise, I enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Had a lovely lunch on Saturday, nice spot on the outdoor terrace. We arrived well on time so it wasn't too busy yet. Friendly staff and the food was delicious.

Top level for a small city that has the most authentic charm in the Netherlands

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Had a wonderful time at Mauve! Perfect terrace to enjoy a bottle of delicious Chardonnay and watch all the Laren hotspots pass by. Great atmosphere, nice place for drinks and people-watching. 🍷☀️ Great service ❤️

I reserved a table for two inside (dinner) via Mauve's website. Upon arrival, we were told that there was no table available inside. We could, however, sit outside under a heater. The reason given was that I had supposedly not made the online reservation correctly. A vague story about having to click twice on the Brasserie indoor experience and that I had only clicked once. Thinking I had made a mistake, we left, as eating outside wasn't exactly appealing given the temperature at that moment. Once outside, I pulled out the reservation email confirmation (see photo). It clearly states that I reserved inside for two people. I walked back inside anyway and showed them the email. Then the story suddenly changed to the new reservation system and that they were having problems with multiple reservations. I can't shake the impression that I was being slightly taken for a ride here... Too bad, because the food at Mauve is excellent. So, if you want to eat inside here, my advice is not to reserve via the website, but to call and clearly indicate that you would like a table inside.

A place where the Gooi region meets and quite busy on a nice day. But to grab a drink on a terrace at a busy intersection with traffic lights and an awful lot of traffic... well, that could really be better, especially when you see and hear the flashy "look at me now" noisemakers passing by. "Would you like some exhaust fumes with your snacks?"

Beautiful sunny terrace and delicious brioches!

1.We booked a table at this restaurant for 6 people on Sunday.First we had to stand in line with others who did not have a reservation and were waiting for possible available seating outside, before we were attended to. 2.We were seated at a table in the middle of the restaurant sharing with other patrons! 3.We ordered drinks and 3 bowls of chips ,only received one! 4.One of the glasses had a hole in it! Glass replaced! 5.Our food came, only 5 people got their order the other order was only going to be 5 minutes!5.After 15 min the other order arrived. 6.Then one of my guests found a long black hair in her food! 7. They replaced the order! 8. When we payed the bill we were charged for 3 bowls of chips after only receiving one! Needless to say I cannot recommend Mauve!!!

I had a business meeting without a reservation, and I didn't realize it was necessary in the middle of the afternoon. Upon entering, I was immediately seated by a waitress. I wasn't supposed to think I'd be called in without a reservation, and she said, "Now I'm going to get back to what I was doing." She left me standing there, cold as ice. When I tried to ask when a table would become available, she said, "I'll have to queue up!" It turned out a few women chatting near the exit were also waiting. Shockingly rude and arrogant, never experienced this before. Apparently, you have to be from the Gooi-style, heavily bleached, pearl-necklace crowd to be "allowed" to sit here. The atmosphere is quite pleasant, but you're sitting on top of each other, and the acoustics are terrible; you can barely hear each other. The cappuccino was bitter.

Fantastic place, tables not clean. You'd expect a higher level of service there.

I can’t comment on the food. My wife and I sat there for ages, had to ask for menus and then no service. We eventually left.

I had sole, which was fair to good. Others had tenderloin and were satisfied. The service was excellent, as was the atmosphere. We've been here before and will definitely return.

We were quickly shown to a spot on the terrace, which gave us hope. Then we waited 40 minutes without any help, while staff repeatedly walked past our table, avoiding eye contact. We left without ever being able to order anything.

We had a lovely lunch outside on the terrace. Beautiful weather, great atmosphere, and the food was excellent!

Waited 25 minutes until the menu was brought to us since we sat the table and we had to request the menu ourselves otherwise I guess we would still be sitting there waiting. Apart from that the food was good and the staff was nice. I wouldn’t say the prices are justified as I’ve eaten better in cheaper places but I guess it comes with the area. The outside is very nice to eat on a sunny evening and overall we had a nice time.

The food was delicious and the service was excellent! You can also ask for nice walking and cycling routes here.

Lovely brasserie in Laren. First visit to the area and it really is a beautiful little town. Mauve was perfect for our morning Breakfast/Brunch. Very good selection on the menu and the food was delicious. Friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere sitting outside and watching what was going on in the town.

We wanted a nice lunch because we'd had a good experience there a few years ago, but after asking for the menu three times and an arrogant response from the waitress, we just paid. Not again.

We had lunch here on Friday, August 15th. The iced coffee was very watery. You needed a lot of imagination to taste the coffee. Lunch was a quiche Lorraine with salad. It consisted of about eight sheets of baby gem lettuce without dressing, and the quiche itself consisted of two sheets of puff pastry with a thin omelette between them. A regular slice of apple pie was larger. It also had very little flavor. In short, very disappointing. I mentioned it, and the answer was that it was just a lunch snack. And that for 14 euros. We had to pay 36.60 for two people. Once, but never again.

We had a lovely meal and drinks in an atmospheric setting and on a relaxing terrace with my girlfriend.

Nice place and cozy terrace in a beautiful location. But it was very busy and there were few staff. A 45-minute wait for a croquette sandwich is really too long.

Cozy terrace, very nice/good service, but you can better eat somewhere else. We had a tenderloin skewer which was transformed by the "chef" into a bar of charcoal and a small bowl of strawberry bavarois is sold as tiramisu, and this for not insignificant amounts....too bad

The food is tasty, the location is nice. As soon as it is sunny and the terrace is full, the crowds cannot cope at all, resulting in long waiting times (even for simple items such as soft drinks).

We sat here for lunch on a sunny winter day. The terrace is beautiful, cozy and a perfect spot to sit. The food took quite a while to arrive but it was relaxing to sit so not so bad. We had sandwiches which were all tasty but a bit on the smaller side. The steak sandwich was as well made and came with a burger bun which was very good. They also have gluten free bread available but didn’t toast it for the sandwich. We had a gluten free club sandwich which was tasty but seemed smaller than if you had it with normal bread (probably because the gluten free bread is smaller). We also had a cheese toasty. Overall a great spot to come and relax with a chilled lunch. Expect to wait a bit for food when it is busy

Our company's Christmas party was celebrated here. Was great! Nice location and very good atmosphere

Went here for Christmas and despite an expensive breakfast with plenty of salmon served, the coffee was charged (supposed to be included). Decoration could be a little better for such a breakfast. Tip, a little more toast, cherry tomatoes and a slice of cucumber would complete it. Atmosphere is great and service is good. Unfortunately, it has not gotten better but worse in terms of operation and service. Eating with a group and one person forgot to serve the meal. Next, there are fried mussels on the menu, but you get boiled mussels in a plate. Indicate this, but this would have been baked? Furthermore, no sauces or wipes, no clean plate for fries you ordered separately, etc. It was the guest's birthday and despite communication and a heavily ordered dessert, this was not taken up. Even when ordering coffee with apple pie, the coffee is long gone before the cake arrives. Shame

Just tried to have a drink at Mauve on the terrace. First we were sent away from the terrace that turned out to be reserved for a private party and taken a seat on another terrace. Waited here for a while and never saw anyone again to take the order. Just left. Bad turn Mauve

We regularly have lunch here during our visits to Laren. My favorite is the Caesar salad (I eat it without croutons). Deliciously richly filled with chicken, fried bacon and anchovies. Good taste due to the combination of sauce and parmesan cheese. The service is pleasant and, rounded off with a cappuccino, we can enjoy another afternoon. The service is almost always good and in the summer it is nice to relax on the terrace.

Great brasserie, only praise! The steak tartare and the tuna as a 'starter' are both delicious, Mauve's style. The Mauve burger is at least as tasty as the starters, definitely recommended! The cheesecake was slightly less special and would have been better off with a better gelatin layer (I think this has already been removed from the menu) The location, staff, food and atmosphere are all great, we will come back here again.

We didn't eat anything. After waiting for a long time, we finally got the menu. We didn't immediately know what we wanted, so service would return. After another half hour of waiting it was enough for us. Have left the restaurant.

Brunch on the terrace heated by a brazier. Dogs are accepted and this is quite rare. The French toast with fresh fruit and orange juice are delicious. I recommend.

Large restaurant. Very busy, but very friendly and fast service. Delicious Oeuf Benedictine.

2 Drank cappuccino with an apple pie. Almost 14 euros. Now say that a total of 10 people work there. Of those 10, no one has ever said; those Cappuccino guys are actually undrinkable. So it comes from a vending machine, not freshly brewed, but you have to pay the full price. Already had three Rennies today. The apple pie is ok, not great but ok. Shame.

After a long wait to get seated, the waitress disappeared and never came back. Probably overwhelmed by the customers. After 10 min waiting at the table to place our order we left.

Nice location. Service could be much better: the customer is forgotten (starts with the fact that it takes a long time to order a drink, the (food/drinks) menu is brought but then no one comes to take the order, the glass is empty and no more questions are asked whether you want anything else, etc.).

After a long time I went to have lunch in my hometown again. Sad to say that the service has plummeted considerably. We had neatly reserved a table on the heated terrace. After waiting for more than 15 minutes, we had to ask a waiter to order some drinks and ask for a menu. After 20 minutes we politely asked if the drinks were coming, an older waiter snapped that it had only been introduced 10 minutes ago. Obviously because they forgot. Continued to wait 40 minutes for a dry club sandwich and carpaccio, drinks still not received. When the waiter saw that the food was being served and there were still no drinks on the table, panic set in and quickly asked another colleague to get our drinks. During the entire lunch we were not asked once if the food tasted good or if we wanted anything to drink. My girlfriend and I have 20+ years of catering experience and were disappointed to say the least and will not be back anytime soon.

After we were sent away at @brink20 because they no longer took orders there (around 3 p.m. on Saturday), we had a nice glass of wine on the terrace and a veggie snack. Really nice here!

Mauve in Laren offers a cozy atmosphere, perfect for a night out. Despite the cold we were able to sit outside thanks to the heaters. The cocktails were delicious and perfectly balanced. A nice place to come back!

The entrance was fantastic and very inviting. A friendly smiling lady took us to our table. The first waiter, clearly very knowledgeable, helped us choose the right wine and left us with the menu. A second waiter came to take the order. He wrote nothing down and that turned out to be a big mistake. No chicken in the otherwise delicious red curry soup, even though we had ordered it. One requested as a main course (so slightly larger/more for a slightly higher price) simply became a starter. The extra portion of fries was not included. After informing the first waiter, who was interested, how it was, he first apologized sincerely and indicated that this would be taken into account when paying. Things went wrong here too. A new calculation had to be made twice, with a difference of almost €15 in the end. Now it is of course not about the money but rather about service and correctness. Too bad, because the restaurant is beautiful and has good quality food and drinks on offer.

Food was almost good, asked how the Bavette should be prepared, said medium was the middle between raw and medium. Otherwise good. Friendly service top!

Ate on the terrace at the brasserie. Enjoyed the starter (ribeye and salmon from the late summer menu). As a main course we had bavette with duchesse. Deliciously fried meat, but the duchesse were a bit dry and cold. Fortunately, the vegetables were nicely fried again. All in all, I really enjoyed the food. Also the delicacies with coffee. The service was friendly. Didn't have to wait long for drinks and food. The atmosphere on the terrace was pleasant. Very cozy under the large parasol. It was a shame that one cigarette after another was being smoked at a table next to us. Because the terrace is more or less closed off by the parasols and flower boxes, the smoke lingered well. That was very unpleasant. Smoking should not actually be allowed here.

Had a drink at Mauve. Lovely place and sunny terrace to sit in the sun. The service is charmingly uncertain and experiencedly jovial. Super combination! One of our favorite spots in the summer!

Whenever I go to the Singer museum I always have lunch at Mauve.

Well done, despite the crowds and thanks to the top staff, fast good service. It's a pity that reservations are heavily used, which meant that some of the necessary spaces were left empty.

There is always room inside or outside. Even if you reserve late. Delicious food for a Sunday dinner.

Having such a nice drink with lovely people, delicious drinks, the sun and on Mauve's terrace, what more could you want?

Went for breakfast. Almost all tables were reserved for lunch, at least 2 hours later. Ordered 2 brown sandwiches, not toasted. Do get toasted bread. Eggs were supposed to be sunny side up but were all broken. We also asked for butter, but we didn't get it. Asked again. The knives were so dull that you couldn't even cut bread with them. We won't do that again anytime soon.

After our visit to the Singer Museum, we settled down on the terrace. Enjoy your stay despite rain and wind. Terrace heating was turned on on request. We opted for the veggie snacks and nachos. They were delicious! Delicious beer, wine and gin and tonic.

What an upturned place. Terrible, you don't feel welcome here at all. You are looked at from head to toe. Never again. And the prices for coffee and tea are unbelievably expensive. Just coffee and tea, you're not drinking gold, are you?

Hospitality really insufficient. No clean dishes Mediocre food. Upon entering, a waitress already sneered that we had to keep walking while her colleague took us to a table. We had to ask for a new napkin, knife and twice a glass because they were not clean, the response from the staff was not nice (check and then put it down without saying anything). Drinks took a long time (even though it wasn't really busy). Then one person's glass was dirty and the other one had to wait. Indicated this twice when it was said that it was coming. When I asked the third time, a slightly older woman came and said that everything would be fine. When I indicated that it had already been requested several times, another person came and indicated that it was now in the system and would arrive after 5 minutes... 5 minutes not achieved... A lot went wrong with our neighbors too. Colleagues also criticized each other and no one provided a suitable solution.
