We walked past the night before and I decided I liked the look of the place and wanted to return before our stay in Amsterdam ended. The next day we dropped by and were told we could wait half an hour for a table so we did and boy was it worth it. The food was sensational. We too ordered the bread just because I was starving and it was light as a feather but had a fabulous crunchy outer shell. Still warm. Delicious. The place felt so authentic and caring. I am so sorry I didn’t fit in the tiramisu. I was too full up with octopus, linguini and tuna. Simply wonderful and I thought very fair pricing although maybe higher than we usually spend on an unplanned meal when away. It was just sensational from start to finish and we felt so very lucky to have found it. One of the highlights of the trip.

I can’t even begin to describe how wonderful this experience was. If you’re in Amsterdam and looking for a hole in the wall restaurant that’s reasonably priced come here. The food and wine was excellent. Our server Giuseppe knew the exact wine we needed to pair with our food, it was so impressive. And again such delicious wine. He also recommended the best dishes as well. He made this experience a 10/10. We come here every time we visit Amsterdam and we’ve never been disappointed which says a lot. I love this place and I love the people. Will be thinking about that food all year!!

As soon as you sit down, you are made to feel genuinely welcome. Both the restaurant manager and Gio, the owner, are absolutely delightful: attentive, passionate and warm. Every dish is introduced and explained with care, giving you a real sense of the thought and passion behind the menu. But the true star is, of course, the food. Simple, authentic Italian ingredients are combined and reinterpreted with remarkable balance and creativity, without ever becoming overly complicated. The result is a wonderful harmony of flavours, aromas and textures, where the quality of the ingredients always remains at the heart of each dish. I started with the octopus. Being the daughter of a fisherman, I very rarely order octopus in restaurants, as I am particularly demanding when it comes to its quality and preparation. This one, however, was simply sublime. Then came the tagliatelle with tucco and truffle – absolutely exceptional. Rich, comforting and beautifully balanced, it was one of those dishes you continue thinking about long after the meal is over. Everything was accompanied by a truly unique and wonderful wine that complemented the food perfectly. Gio is one of those rare restaurants where every detail seems to have a purpose: the food, the wine, the atmosphere, the lighting, the service and that wonderful ability to make you feel both looked after and completely at home. A special mention must go to Gio herself. Her warmth, authenticity and passion for what she does are remarkable. She has that rare gift of making her guests feel genuinely welcome and at ease. My cousin, who lives in Amsterdam, brought me here, and from the moment we walked in, we were made to feel right at home. I love having someone guide my choices, so I asked Giò—the owner—for her recommendations. It turned out to be the right decision. Her first suggestion was the crispy octopus; without exaggeration, it was among the best I’ve ever had—a dish worth the visit all on its own. I work in the restaurant industry myself, so it’s not easy to impress me; in fact, I tend to notice the details, the timing, and the coordination between the dining room and the kitchen. Yet, I couldn't fault a single thing here: impeccable service, a beautifully curated atmosphere, and perfect pacing between courses. My only complaint is that the menu and prices aren't displayed. Thinking we were going to an ordinary Italian restaurant, we ended up in a gourmet establishment. The bill was steep. Without ordering wine or dessert, we paid almost €120 for two people, including a starter and main course. A glass of wine was €9, and water was extra. We only ordered water. Otherwise, it was very good.

Hands down one of the most authentic Italian spots in Amsterdam! The ingredients are top-tier fresh, and the food tastes just like casa, nostalgic and soul-warming. Stepping inside feels like being welcomed into a home. A must-visit if you're craving real Italian cooking.

The environment was nice and had a great atmosphere, and the staff were friendly. However, the wait for the food was too long, the portions were small, and while the food tasted okay, it fell short of my expectations. It was a pity and somewhat disappointing, especially considering the high price.

Staff could not find a place despite reservation half-week beforehand. Got blamed by waiter for being 5 minutes late (!).

What a disappointment. We arrived at 10:00 pm with my wife and two daughters, looking forward to dinner — Google clearly lists closing time as 10:30 pm. We were met at the door by a staff member who, without a hint of warmth, told us they were full. Fair enough — we offered to wait for a table. The answer? "The kitchen closed at 10:00 pm." So half an hour before the advertised closing time, we were simply sent away. It's embarrassing to stand at a restaurant's door with your family and be treated like an inconvenience. If your kitchen closes at 10:00 pm, have the honesty to update your hours on Google — other families deserve to know before making the trip. A restaurant is measured not just by its food, but by how it treats people. On that count: zero. We won't be back, and we don't recommend it.

The octopus and tuna are very nice. Perfect cooking time. The monk fish texture is also perfect but the tomatoes sauce is too sour. The staff are very polite. But because only two of them were serving the customers. So we had been waiting for table even we booked, we also needed to wait for order, the food and the bill. So it was a long wait for everything.

Tucked into a small corner this place was beautiful. The ambience was great and the staff very accommodating, we did not have a reservation but they accommodated us at 6.pm for 90min!! We had the bread that tasted fresh especially with the Olive oil and the balsamic vinaigrette. We had the risotto and the lamb shank!! The risotto cooked to perfection and was the best we had ever!! The tiramisu was simply delicious!! It was a delightful experience and the food truly amazing!!! For the price the experience and quality of food was too good!!!

Had dinner here last night. Superfriendly staff. Meet the chef table side and got her recommendations. My wife had the beef filet which was cooked perfectly. I had the black linguini with lobster. Very filling and quite tasty.

What a wonderful evening I had here. The atmosphere in the place is incredibly cozy, partly due to the impressive wine wall that immediately gives the space a warm and distinctive feel. It is the perfect place to unwind for a moment in the city center. The food was truly fantastic, and the presentation on the plates was meticulously taken care of. The tiramisu, in particular, was a real treat, served in an elegant glass bowl on a green napkin. I will definitely be back here soon.

For our final night in Amsterdam, we headed to a fancy Italian restaurant we’d found on Google Maps. We’d actually been turned away earlier in the trip because they were fully booked, so we made sure to set a reservation. To our shock, when we arrived, they couldn't find our booking! Thankfully, the waiter was very kind and found us a table with a 90-minute limit. The food presentation was absolutely stunning—the octopus was our favorite; it was incredibly tender and the homemade sauce was heavenly. While my ink pasta was a bit too salty for my liking, my husband and daughter loved theirs, even if the portions were a little on the small side.

The service was attentive, and the waitstaff was professional and well dressed. The bread with olive oil was delicious, and the Pinot Noir was good, although the pour was disappointingly small. Unfortunately, the experience had several downsides. We were seated right next to the door, which wasn’t ideal, our appetizer order was incorrect, and both the bread and entrees took a long time to arrive despite the restaurant being small. My tequila seltzer with pineapple tasted completely off, almost like it had Tabasco in it. To top it off, the meal portions were very small for the price. Overall, there were some bright spots, but the slow service, mistakes, and portion sizes made it hard to justify returning

On our last night in Amsterdam my daughter Flávia found the restaurant Gió, right in the center. Impeccable service and delicious dishes. Gió personally came to our table to greet us and thank us for our presence. Thank you to you and your team (Giuseppe and Marion) who were all so attentive to us.

A good place, but I ordered pasta with truffle and meat; there was absolutely no truffle flavor, and the ricotta and pistachio scone was really underwhelming—the ricotta flavor was too strong. Impeccable service and a friendly atmosphere. Expect to pay around thirty euros for main courses and ten euros for desserts.

However, what elevates this restaurant to a superior level is its extraordinary team. Mariam (from Canary Islands), Giuseppe, and Daniel (from Italy) provided us with flawless service. Their closeness, impeccable courtesy, and warm smiles made us feel not like clients, but like close relatives coming back home. The food at the restaurant was pretty good; we had pizza, pasta, and salad. The portions, especially the pizzas, were large: even a medium pizza shared between two people will leave you both full. However, the pizza toppings weren’t particularly interesting or sophisticated, so none of the pizzas had a rich or distinctive flavor. Most of them were combinations of mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes, ham, and salami. Still, for the price and the location, that’s forgivable. The dough itself, actually, was crispy and delicious. The fettuccine was good and came with plenty of sauce. The Caesar salad was decent, but I’d recommend going for the pizza instead. The interior is nice and cozy, but mainly on the second floor. The downstairs area feels dark and poorly ventilated. The bathroom, however, was extremely dirty. Overall, though, I can recommend the place.

Cosy Italian restaurant in the hearth of Amsterdam. I went to eat there to celebrate a birthday last week and it was a great choice. All the food was amazing! From the starters I recommend the onions cream with egg yolk and truffle. Then I had spaghetti with lobster, they were incredible 😻 The service was also very polite and attentive!

We came on our first day in Amsterdam. It was full. I asked the waiter if we can wait outside and he mentioned I don't think anyone will leave soon. So we left. Next day we were there by 5:30. The same waiter asked if we had reservation though the place was empty. I replied no. I went to sit directly as he did not mention on the previous day that reservation was required. He refused to allow us to sit on a certain table and mentioned it was reserved so we sat on another one. The bad thing is that he whispered to his colleagues with something infornt of us as if we can't see him. After this ill manner, another waiter Guiseppe came and thigs went normal. Food was great. The first waiter came back again with the last dish without uttering a word put the food on the table and left. I am sure he needs training as how to treat people. His discriminatory manner was obvious and rude. Still I have to mention that food was outstanding.

We arrived here with a large party and no reservation. They were able to seat us and deliver great service even though we had to be done quickly to make room for another party. My full honest review: The restaurant is always full, even on a random weekday, plan and book ahead 1-2 days, if on weekend or holidays: minimum 3 days. I booked at 6pm, arrived 6:20pm, they were ok and still welcomed me. It took 15-20 more minutes for me to get a menu, and the bread they brought was soggy, soft, which is disappointing. When I first looked at the menu, I was surprised of how affordable the restaurant is despite the fame (ranging from €10-35/dish). As others said, the octopus for starter is a must. It is fresh, you don’t smell the “fishy”, even with the squid ink sauce. It was seared to perfection, outside is crunchy like chicken skin, inside soft and tender. Walking into the main dish, I got the prawns, they were fresh and ok-ish, nothing too special. For the price of €28, I’m not complaining. Overall, great experience, very cheap compared to my other dining experiences. A-must-to-try once, but I don’t know if it’s worth the wait to come back. The restaurant deserves a 5-star. Extra: They gave me 15% discount for the Prawns, which I appreciate, however, charging for this bread is a crime, it’s really bad bread, b.s. Nevertheless, moah, the Cannolo for dessert was so good that it made up for the bread.

Spectacular!!! Everything was delicious, it was our salvation in Amsterdam!!!! If we had known beforehand, we would have gone every day, given the negative experience at other restaurants. This one left us speechless and we finally felt at home!! 😍❤️

An excellent experience, authentic Italian food of the highest quality, but the real plus was the impeccable service from Andrea Benedetta and Mariam, who looked after us warmly throughout the dinner. Highly recommended.

Disappointed by our dining experience here. Planned on having mains and desert and wine. Both adults had Beef tenderloins - medium order cooked to rear for one of the steaks. Barolo sauce tasted really flat and meat was under seasoned. Bread is advertised as served with oil and balsamic but we had to ask for the balsamic it wasn’t forthcoming. Pinot noir was quite acidic and unpleasant and very tiny pour for a glass serving. Pasta amatricana was tasty but guanciale quite rubbery and not rendered down. The side of duchess potatoes was laughable as it is in fact sliced baby potatoes with a tiny bit of parmesan on top. Was never offered another glass of wine so we decided against desert after a disappointing meal and I did express my disappointment over the steak. It comes with 3 little potatoe swirls and a pinch of cress and there isn’t an option for additional sides so doesn’t feel like it even attempts to be a balanced main course. We subsequently went and got some frites after leaving the restaurant and paying €127 for 3 mains and some bread. Maybe an off day as I had booked based on a Friends recommendation.

We came last night for dinner, and if you are in Amsterdam as a Roman here in this restaurant you can eat truly Italian food, everything is good and the service is impeccable down to the smallest detail, 100% recommended

A fantastic location, discovered during a business trip to Amsterdam. Impeccable service, with a level of customer service truly worthy of someone who loves the restaurant business. Benedetta, in particular, the restaurant's true champion, immediately immersed us in the intimate and convivial atmosphere, suggesting a noteworthy off-menu item (pappardelle with beef ragù and truffle) and an excellent primitivo. The appetizers are meticulously crafted, from burrata to octopus. For those seeking authentic Italian cuisine, suitable for both intimate evenings and business meetings, Gió is undoubtedly the place to go in Amsterdam. Reservations are highly recommended.
