On our last night in Amsterdam my daughter Flávia found the restaurant Gió, right in the center. Impeccable service and delicious dishes. Gió personally came to our table to greet us and thank us for our presence. Thank you to you and your team (Giuseppe and Marion) who were all so attentive to us.

A good place, but I ordered pasta with truffle and meat; there was absolutely no truffle flavor, and the ricotta and pistachio scone was really underwhelming—the ricotta flavor was too strong. Impeccable service and a friendly atmosphere. Expect to pay around thirty euros for main courses and ten euros for desserts.

An exceptional gastronomic and human experience in Amsterdam Dining here was not just a great meal, it was the absolute highlight of our trip—so much so that we decided to return two nights in a row. The kitchen displays outstanding technical mastery. The octopus is, without exaggeration, the best I have ever eaten in my life: perfectly cooked with the exact right texture, and elevated by an extraordinary sauce that showcases a great complexity of flavor. We also tried the scallops, the tenderloin beef, and the tuna; every cut and seafood element was impeccably executed, respecting the fresh produce and achieving distinctive, subtle, and memorable flavor profiles. However, what elevates this restaurant to a superior level is its extraordinary team. Mariam (from Canary Islands), Giuseppe, and Daniel (from Italy) provided us with flawless service. Their closeness, impeccable courtesy, and warm smiles made us feel not like clients, but like close relatives coming back home. That human warmth, combined with culinary excellence, is a rare gem that must be celebrated. We will return without hesitation. Thank you for two unforgettable nights!

The food at the restaurant was pretty good; we had pizza, pasta, and salad. The portions, especially the pizzas, were large: even a medium pizza shared between two people will leave you both full. However, the pizza toppings weren’t particularly interesting or sophisticated, so none of the pizzas had a rich or distinctive flavor. Most of them were combinations of mushrooms, cheese, tomatoes, ham, and salami. Still, for the price and the location, that’s forgivable. The dough itself, actually, was crispy and delicious. The fettuccine was good and came with plenty of sauce. The Caesar salad was decent, but I’d recommend going for the pizza instead. The interior is nice and cozy, but mainly on the second floor. The downstairs area feels dark and poorly ventilated. The bathroom, however, was extremely dirty. Overall, though, I can recommend the place.

Had such a great lunch on the last trip we decided to make a dinner reservation. It was a great meal and the staff was excellent. Reservation is essential.

A small, cozy restaurant with just 28 seats. That's precisely what makes it so charming. It wasn't just a good meal, but a truly special experience. The food was outstanding and of the highest quality. Every bite was a delight. The ambiance is warm and inviting, making you feel right at home. I'd especially like to commend the service. Friendly, attentive, and almost familial. You can immediately tell that they work with a lot of passion. I can't say for sure if it was inexpensive. But one thing is certain: it was worth every penny. A big thank you to the three lovely gentlemen in the front of house and to the kitchen team. You're doing a fantastic job!

Cosy Italian restaurant in the hearth of Amsterdam. I went to eat there to celebrate a birthday last week and it was a great choice. All the food was amazing! From the starters I recommend the onions cream with egg yolk and truffle. Then I had spaghetti with lobster, they were incredible 😻 The service was also very polite and attentive!

All the dishes we ordered were delicious and the service was good.

We came on our first day in Amsterdam. It was full. I asked the waiter if we can wait outside and he mentioned I don't think anyone will leave soon. So we left. Next day we were there by 5:30. The same waiter asked if we had reservation though the place was empty. I replied no. I went to sit directly as he did not mention on the previous day that reservation was required. He refused to allow us to sit on a certain table and mentioned it was reserved so we sat on another one. The bad thing is that he whispered to his colleagues with something infornt of us as if we can't see him. After this ill manner, another waiter Guiseppe came and thigs went normal. Food was great. The first waiter came back again with the last dish without uttering a word put the food on the table and left. I am sure he needs training as how to treat people. His discriminatory manner was obvious and rude. Still I have to mention that food was outstanding.

We arrived here with a large party and no reservation. They were able to seat us and deliver great service even though we had to be done quickly to make room for another party. Every single thing we ate was delicious and we were truly blown away by how great the food and the service were. We will come back here every time we're in Amsterdam

High reviews are well-deserved. The place is small, but the interior is beautiful and very atmospheric. The menu is short. The service is friendly. There's a large wine selection. The food is excellent. Appetizers include burrata with a creamy, delicious tomato sauce. Fresh octopus and shrimp. The bacon in the pasta is deep-fried and crispy. The dishes are very aromatic. The perfect place for an elegant dinner.

My full honest review: The restaurant is always full, even on a random weekday, plan and book ahead 1-2 days, if on weekend or holidays: minimum 3 days. I booked at 6pm, arrived 6:20pm, they were ok and still welcomed me. It took 15-20 more minutes for me to get a menu, and the bread they brought was soggy, soft, which is disappointing. When I first looked at the menu, I was surprised of how affordable the restaurant is despite the fame (ranging from €10-35/dish). As others said, the octopus for starter is a must. It is fresh, you don’t smell the “fishy”, even with the squid ink sauce. It was seared to perfection, outside is crunchy like chicken skin, inside soft and tender. Walking into the main dish, I got the prawns, they were fresh and ok-ish, nothing too special. For the price of €28, I’m not complaining. Overall, great experience, very cheap compared to my other dining experiences. A-must-to-try once, but I don’t know if it’s worth the wait to come back. The restaurant deserves a 5-star. Extra: They gave me 15% discount for the Prawns, which I appreciate, however, charging for this bread is a crime, it’s really bad bread, b.s. Nevertheless, moah, the Cannolo for dessert was so good that it made up for the bread.

Disappointed by our dining experience here. Planned on having mains and desert and wine. Both adults had Beef tenderloins - medium order cooked to rear for one of the steaks. Barolo sauce tasted really flat and meat was under seasoned. Bread is advertised as served with oil and balsamic but we had to ask for the balsamic it wasn’t forthcoming. Pinot noir was quite acidic and unpleasant and very tiny pour for a glass serving. Pasta amatricana was tasty but guanciale quite rubbery and not rendered down. The side of duchess potatoes was laughable as it is in fact sliced baby potatoes with a tiny bit of parmesan on top. Was never offered another glass of wine so we decided against desert after a disappointing meal and I did express my disappointment over the steak. It comes with 3 little potatoe swirls and a pinch of cress and there isn’t an option for additional sides so doesn’t feel like it even attempts to be a balanced main course. We subsequently went and got some frites after leaving the restaurant and paying €127 for 3 mains and some bread. Maybe an off day as I had booked based on a Friends recommendation.

As a person who eats pasta and Italian dishes all the time, I can say, without hesitation, that this was the best Italian food that I have ever had. I ordered the asticce (lobster pasta) and it was absolutely divine. The ambiance in the locale is truly amazing and the staff (Jerry, Andrea, Benedetta, Maria, Giada and Emanuele) were super friendly and polite, we were served limoncello and drank together with them (since we stayed until closing time). I have visited here from Sweden together with my husband and son, and they both adored their dishes just as much as I did. Overall, this is THE number 1 choice for anyone who is looking for a great Italian cuisine within the heart of Amsterdam, and I would absolutely recommend this any tourists and dutch alike. We decided to Italian for dinner for the first night in Amsterdam and Gio did not disappoint. We got there relatively early, around 5pm, and the restaurant was empty and asked if we had reservations. Luckily given it was so early they had no problem and could pick any table. We had a burrata as a starter which was great and we each had a pasta dish but my wife's was gluten free. She said it was cooked perfectly and al dented and mine was also al dente. We each has a glass of red wine and finished off dinner with tiramisu. My wife's was gluten free as it didn't include the lady fingers. We were stuffed! A wonderful dinner our first night in Amsterdam and thank you to the team at Gio.

One of the few Italian restaurants in the area. The food is delicious and it has good service. The place is very cozy but gets quite busy, so make sure to book in advance.

Excellent food, especially the burrata and the octopus. Definitely a must try. We also tried the beef pasta which has incredible flavour. However, the bread is served without any dips (you can pour olive oil on it) and is 4,50 which I find overpriced for just plain bread, and we were charged 5,50 for tap water which we didn’t notice until later.

Nice place. Cozy atmosphere and nice place. We were there in winter so it was a little cold when the door was opened. The food was good. However, I would have liked more potatoes (you don't have to skimp on that...)

Specially recommend the octopus and the pistachio pasta, we were lucky to have a table for 2 and the male waiter was really nice to us. The place was not well isolated and under our table there was a flow of cold air I think it would be nice to be fixed 🙏 The waiting time between starter and main dish was long but it was worth it for the food 🍝

We came here on a Tuesday night without a reservation and were able to be seated right away. The food was delicious and the drinks were tasty. We were charged 5 euro extra for asking for drinks that were not on the menu (dirty martini and old fashioned). The restaurant is cozy and the staff were friendly.

Hands down the best Italian pasta we’ve ever had! The Ravioli with Black Truffle was a standout—the beef juice flavor is absolutely incredible. We also tried the Pistachio Pasta, and oh my goodness, it was amazing. Don’t skip the Roasted Octopus starter; it tastes divine. The service staff were the cherry on top—super attentive and friendly. A 10/10 experience!

Truly one of the worst restaurants I’ve been to since I’ve been in the Netherlands. I wasn’t a fan of their food AT ALL. It had an off taste in my mouth and they kept watching me whilst I ate which made me uncomfortable. The only thing I really enjoyed was the bread and I didn’t even know that at first it wasn’t free cause they brought bread to every table. It was later on when I asked for the bill that you had to pay. Also I ordered a virgin cocktail, which everyone knows it’s basically like a fruity drink. Instead they used an alcohol free rum which still had that alcohol taste. I couldn’t even drink my €10 cocktail. If I wanted a cocktail with alcohol free rum or a drink that tasted like an alcoholic beverage I would have asked for it but I asked for a VIRIGIN MOJITO. It’s basically like sprite and mint and even that was messed up. I won’t be going back but that’s just based on my preference and experience. Do with this review as you please. The atmosphere is nothing to rave about, it was small and crowded but that’s not unique to most Amsterdam restaurants and it was hidden in the alley so at night, it felt uncomfortable but other than that, I’d say find another restaurant and actually enjoy the food you’ll pay over €100 for.

Arriving without a reservation during peak hours, we (the two of us) were lucky enough to be seated without waiting. The quality is evident in every dish. Everything is impeccable. The price reflects this, but quality always comes at a price.

Dinner for two couples with 2 appetizers, 4 main courses and 1 bottle of wine, around 50 euros per person. Acceptable price for the center of Amsterdam. Restaurant located on a narrower street and therefore perhaps a little less touristy, but frequented mostly by foreigners. Very small space, which can become a little uncomfortable for eating in groups of more than 4 people. Italian food, made in an honest and traditional way. Some staff members are Italian. Reservations are advisable.

The food was extraordinary. They even made a vegan pasta with tomatosauce for me that was not on the menu. Mariam was the perfect combination of funny, excellent service, friendly & helpful. And the other 2 waitresses were very friendly aswell. We were there for a businesstrip as a team and had a wonderful evening!

The menu is limited, but the dishes are very elaborate and high-quality. There's no wait for your food, good wines, and a truly fantastic selection of Italian-style cocktails. I recommend the Sardinian Summer. The octopus appetizer is amazing! A note about the food: one of the two fillets in Barolo was less cooked than the main course, but overall, it was delicious. Definitely one of my top five places in Amsterdam for dining with a touch of Italy.
