I suggest trying it with authentic Italian balsamic vinegar for an even richer flavor. For starters, I had the grilled octopus. The creativity of the dish and the execution were outstanding — perfectly tender (not at all chewy) and paired with sauces that truly elevated the experience. For the main course, I chose the beef tenderloin, followed by a tiramisu for dessert. Both dishes exceeded my expectations, with the tiramisu in particular being a highlight. Overall, a wonderful dining experience — highly recommended if you’re looking for authentic Italian cuisine in Amsterdam Better to call them for reservation to avoid waiting.

The restaurant is a wonderful surprise. very cozy and sic atmosphere. Don't expect pizza and carbonara!!! Here the food is real Italian cuisine!! The girls at the service very polite but I really have to give credit to the chef!!! The food was excellent, we got 3 starters, 3 pasta dishes and meat. Everything was excellent!! From the handmade sourdough bread (we asked for a second portion) to the tiramisu at the end!!! Definitely worth a visit!!!

I had the most amazing dinner at this Italian restaurant last night! From start to finish, everything was perfect. The food was absolutely delicious—full of authentic flavor and cooked to perfection. You can really tell how much care goes into every dish. The atmosphere was so warm and welcoming, and the service truly made the night extra special. Our waitress, Mariam, was wonderful—so funny, friendly, and attentive. She made us feel right at home and added such a personal touch to the whole experience. The wine selection was also fantastic and paired beautifully with our meal. It’s rare to find a place where everything just comes together so perfectly, but this was definitely one of those nights. Can’t wait to come back!

It's a small Italian restaurant in the middle of Amsterdam that's sells very very good Italian food. I had the octopus and a pasta dish with a glass of Cabernet and a primitivo, and it was very very! Good, especially the pasta.

Came to Amsterdam never thinking we would be eating some of the best Italian food but it was incredible. Atmosphere was wonderful service was fantastic and the best part the Chef & owner Giorgia came over and sat with us we had a wonderful conversation & wish her nothing but good things for her going forward. But honestly the octopus was cooked perfect & the sauce was incredible one of the best I’ve ever had. Seafood raviolis with chunks of swordfish were delicious as well. Had the best night thanks for making our last night incredible . Everyone needs to try this restaurant!

Wow! Fantastic little Italian restaurant where the service is just as personal and genuine as the food they serve. Pulpo, risotto pere gorgonzola, melanza, beef in Barolo.... All pairing nicely with the suggested Barbera d'Alba. Only downside is that the small restaurant can become loud with a larger group next table and the ventilation might bring a whiff of local pot in.

FANTASTIC meal! The place is small and cozy. Every sillngle dish was great, I had dinner with a party of 6 and everybody was super happy and satisfied about their dishes.

Truly exceptional dinner! A small, well-kept restaurant that has all the flavors of home 🇮🇹❣️ We had the pasta alla Norma and the beef fillet, which to call exquisite is an understatement! The fillet was also served with mashed potatoes, which wasn't on the menu but was kindly suggested by the waitress. THE END OF THE WORLD!! Cosy little resturant in the city center. Very small, so reservation even on weekdays are recommended. Food was great, both starter mushroom tartare and lamb shank. Primarly full bodied red wines that goes well with the meat. Cocktails wasen't upthere but ok for the venues focus.

She went above and beyond to make my friends and me feel at home, welcoming us warmly and guiding us with thoughtful recommendations. Her care and attention really elevated our experience. If you visit, I can’t recommend enough that you ask for Mariam, you’ll be in the best hands. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in town.

I liked the atmosphere and service. My expectations for the food were high due to the high rating. I liked the octopus. The rest was nothing special: the lamb wasn't tasty from the freezer, and the meat and tiramisu weren't great either. Thanks to the waiters and chef for their efforts!!!

This place had a 4.8 google rating. We were cautious as some places have great ratings but aren’t great. I would say the food was okay Small tables and hard to fit behind the other diners They booked out on a Tuesday night. Clientele seemed to be mostly Americans. Definitely not what we have had in Italy but not the worst we have had in Amsterdam city. Wine was nice. Total was 172 euros for the two of us with mains only and 2 sides.

Found this through high overall rating on Google. It met all of our expectations. The braised beef dish with Baralo wine sauce was delightful. We also enjoyed homemade ravioli with eggplant filling. Love this place!

A piece of Italy (the real Italy, the one that smells of passion and authenticity) in the center of Amsterdam. We visited this restaurant two nights and the food was divine both times. Amazing dishes (the octopus and the paccheri with pesto and bacon are recommended), friendly service, and reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Delicious dinner, nice cocktails

A friend of mine who lives in Amsterdam took me to this Italian restaurant. We were in a hurry because we had a reservation for an event at a venue half an hour later. One of the girls seated us right away, even though it was packed, and made us order before we even sat down to give us time. She insisted the kitchen get things done as quickly as possible. As an Italian, I admit the food was excellent. We ordered a first course and drank a good glass of wine. The atmosphere was very nice. Prices were average for Amsterdam. When I return to Amsterdam, I'll come back again, but more slowly this time. Highly recommended

Everything was perfect! Had a birthday dinner and even got a surprise at the end! Gio and her team did a fantastic job taking care of us and the food was just delicious!

The four of us had a truly fantastic meal here! We spent the entire evening there, ordering starters, pasta, main courses, and dessert. Every course was a feast, and the recommended wines made it perfect. Yes, it's a bit pricey, but it's more than worth it! The service was good and friendly, but could be improved to better match the high quality of the food. It took a long time for someone to come to our table, and water and bread were extra (not very Italian). The only downside of this restaurant is its location in a tourist area, and that's reflected in the type of guests. Many groups were happily scrolling on their phones in their North Face vests, instead of enjoying the evening. This made the atmosphere a bit dull. But with good company, fantastic food, and delicious wines, an evening at Gió can only be a good one, and we quickly forgot the atmosphere that hung in the air upon arrival. Highly recommended!

As promised, a price review to the crew of Gió Cucina Italiana! Can't express enough how amazing this spot was, the staff were kind, patient and so willing to engage with our whole group. Lots of laughs, conversations, memories and even some heartfelt tears that I'm glad were had here. Special shout-out to Mariam and Maria (or Marie, I know messed the spelling for both of their names) but absolutely wonderful human beings that were above and beyond what any of us could have expected from the wait staff. Big love to everyone here for ending this Amsterdam trip on one of the highest notes possible! 😊

We went to this place to have dinner with my husband. Food was very good and tasty. Place is nice and cozy inside. However, my experience was spoiled by bad service. First of all, I ordered a salad, and as part of serving the waiter put some kind of sea food foam on top of that from a siphon directly in front of me. And that sprayed sea food foam all over my face, hair and dress, which was disgusting and ruined my mood and appearance. She apologized, but didn’t offer nothing like complementary drink or anything… Secondly, when I ordered a second cocktail, I had to wait about 20 minutes only to receive a wrong cocktail, not the one that I ordered, which I then declined and cancelled my order, cause by that time we already switched to dessert. And lastly, we had to ask for the bill 3 times and waited way to long to get it. At that point looking at our displeased faces waitress said that they removed one tiramisu (10 euros worth) from the bill as an apology for the wait. But overall it’s very sad that such sloppy and unprofessional service ruined our evening.

Located in the center city tucked away from main street. It was very crowded on thursday evening. Without the reservation, we were able to secure a table, luckily. We ordered risotto and squid ink linguini with lobster. Linguini is one of the best I ever had, with whole precut lobster as cherry on the top. Risotto was a bit salty and flat. Cozy space. They charge $4 for bread, so be aware.

I was at this excellent restaurant tonight. I had baby cuttlefish with mousse, which was recently added to the menu, as a starter. They were truly delicious and beautifully presented. My daughter's roast octopus with squid ink and mandarin was truly one of the best I've ever had. And then there were the first courses, which were truly appreciated. But it was also lovely to spy on the kitchen and watch them work in harmony and with precision. My sincere compliments, I absolutely recommend them.

We had the ravioli scampi today, but we only got seven small pieces. After complaining that the plate was very small, we were told that it was normal. A very poor result for us.

Excellent restaurant in the heart of Amsterdam. Food is amazing: every dish is nicely selected from Giorgia (the owner) and her staff, which is very well prepared and helpful. The restaurant is very intimate and in my opinion good for a romantic dinner. They are very knowledgable about wines. Highly suggested.

So good! They cooked and flavored the octopus dish SO well. The tenderloin was spot on. The scampi ravioli was good. The tiramisu was very yummy and they had great Italian wine. The atmosphere was quaint and lovely. We would definitely go again! PS Call for a reservation. We got lucky and called at 5pm and got an 8pm spot but I’d reserve in advance for sure next time.

The best carbonara that has ever been served to me.

I went here for dinner with my family last night. We arrived at 8:15pm and were told that there were no seats available. We were asked to go back at 9:00. We were given a table at the innermost part of the restaurant. I felt very dark when I entered the restaurant. There was no air conditioning and no windows. I almost suffocated. We ordered food at 9:05pm. The starter was served at 9:20pm, which was normal. At 10:30pm, the main course was not served yet, which was a bit outrageous. I asked the waitress, and she said that the kitchen was cooking other guests' dishes. We waited for 1 hour and 30 minutes in such a dark restaurant. We finished the delicious food in 5 minutes and left. We didn't want to stay for another minute. I will never recommend this restaurant to other friends. It was a very unpleasant dinner.

This is really the best restaurant I've been to in Amsterdam. The food is like art, even its presentation. The service is excellent, professional and very friendly. The restaurant is way too tight. We had a table booked at 8 o’clock and had to wait standing in the tight “lobby” for 20 min. The same happened to two other couples we met. We ordered the beef tenderloin and a duck breast but there was no sides with the meats on either dish. I don’t remember seeing soda on the drink menu when I wanted to order one and the waiter didn’t. understand me when I asked for a soda. The Tiramisu was on the other hand very good. The beef tenderloin was way to cooked (I asked for a medium rare).

One hour before closing, they seated us at a table that seemed reserved, so we're grateful for accommodating us. I need to eat gluten free and dairy free and after some consultation i settled on the octopus with some modifications and the cod with some modifications. The server told me the food is taking longer because they were taking extra care not to cross-contaminate, which is very much appreciated. The octopus was delicious although i would have charred it, but that's a personal preference. The fish was good, flaky, moist in an unexpectedly hot sauce. Not bad, just wasn't prepared for the heat. Two things i would have changed - peel the tomatoes, much less salt. Had a very interesting non-alcoholic cocktail that was not on the menu. The restaurant is small but with nice atmosphere, romantic even. The service was great. It's on the pricey side, just be aware.

Rude and patronising staff. Food looked wet and gross. Update in response to the owner reply: Wild that you’re questioning whether my experience was “true”, very unprofessional response. Instead of evaluating where you went wrong you’re being defensive which is exactly the problem.

I think the restaurant is buying reviews. It’s reviewed every few hours. I visited on Wednesday with colleagues. Pretty sure my cod was made from frozen, not fresh. Fennel salad was very strange. Dessert very sweet and basic.

Was traveling on a business trip, and we wanted to go to a nice dinner. This restaurant was perfect! Not too far at all from where we were staying. Food was amazing, fresh, and authentic. This service was food where 10/10. We had a bottle of wine, and we all loved it. We also each has a spritz whice was also great.

We were very disappointed in the service and food preparation. Our drinks were forgotten. We had to remind the wait staff of our order. Our food was forgotten. When we reminded the wait staff that our food had taken over an hour they rushed out my cod severely undercooked. They replaced it 20 minutes later, and it was cooked perfectly then. This restaurant is not as good as you would expect from a 4.8 star designation. Avoid this place.

I understand where this restaurant has such good reviews. It is always difficult to find good restaurants in the center of Amsterdam. (most are tourist traps) But we will definitely come back here, the dishes are very tasty and prepared with care, the extensive wine chose makes it complete. The service is also of a high standard.
