Verena Restaurant in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

This restaurant serves some of the most authentic Southern Italian food. Starting with the Zuppa di pomodoro (tomato soup), which feels just like grandma’s cooking. The soup was perfectly balanced. The main dishes were the pasta Tartufo and the pizza Verena. The pasta was the highlight of the whole meal. It tasted fresh, as if it were homemade, and the sauce complemented it beautifully. The pizza was delicious and crispy. Finalizing with their homemade tiramisu and espresso macchiato was boosting our experience in this loving and friendly place.

The food was incredibly good. Everything tasted delicious. Fresh ingredients and authentic Italian flavors. The owners (a couple) served us very friendly and attentively. The only area for improvement would be the decor. It's a bit lacking in ambiance, which means you don't spend as much time at the table. It doesn't do justice to the fantastic food. I'll definitely be back.

I'd say it was average. Our table was near the entrance and very cramped. The truffle pasta was very good. However, the zucchini and prawn risotto consisted of tiny pieces of zucchini and small shrimp (no prawns), which wasn't great for the price. And the waiter was pushing us to order an appetizer and dessert, which I didn't appreciate.

Not sure how this place has an average 4.6 rating? No tap water, 6.5 for a small bottle of water and the owner pushes for cash payment and tip. Avoid.

Small, charming restaurant... the owners are very friendly and accommodating... the spare ribs were the most delicious I've had in Amsterdam so far... the bruschetta was also really delicious... I can recommend it to anyone who wants to eat well... we'll definitely be back

I've eaten here three times. It seems to be a family-run restaurant, and the owner is very friendly. I tried the pizza and lasagna. The pizza crust was very crispy, and the owner recommended pairing it with a hot sauce, which I hadn't tried before. I saw many reviews mentioning the tiramisu, and it was indeed impressive. It must have had vanilla cream added for a richer flavor, making it not too cloying.

The restaurant is excellent and wonderful, the food is very delicious, and the old woman there and her husband are amazing.

Super small family owned authentic Italian restaurant. This was our last meal in Amsterdam before we headed home and it we would have eaten here sooner we would have been here a couple of times. The owner was super sweet and very caring and engaging. I had the risotto and my wife had the mushroom fettuccine, both were amazing. We also had the caprese salad which was very fresh. Super small dining room, but plenty of atmosphere.

this place was delicious and so uplifting. we got the prosciutto pizza, lasagna and ciabatta and they were magnificent the service was great as well. great hosts 10/10

This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise. A friendly welcome and a simple yet effective menu. The pasta was very good and the desserts excellent, especially the tiramisu and tartufo! We'll be back.

Located just outside the old town, but definitely worth the trip. A family-run restaurant with delicious Italian food and a lovely atmosphere. Very child-friendly.

Lovely little find just out of the centre, close (less than 10 min walk) from the NEMO museum. Small, authentic Italian, serving lovely pasta. The Tiramisu was the best we’ve ever tasted! The only thing knocking it down from a 5 star was they didn’t have a kids menu (although family friendly), there was no desert menu (only Tiramisu or chocolate ice cream for the kids - although it was really nice!) & when we asked to pay by card we felt the waiter had a little bit of an attitude but it was fine. Overall though, would definitely recommend if you’re in the area!

Very friendly and welcoming service without reservation. I wouldn’t return here for the pizza though. The dough isn’t home made and misses character. Same goes for the topping. Pasta should be a better option.

What a find. A lovely little authentic family run italian restaurant- well worth the walk out of the centre. The food was amazing. We had lasagne, spaghetti bolognese, and a margarita pizza. The service is friendly and welcoming, and the owner is really funny! His wife's tiramisu is so good that we had seconds!! May be worth trying to book as it is quite small inside. Highly recommended. Thanks to all of the staff for a wonderful meal.

Small, at first unassuming restaurant. We had reserved a table in advance via email. It was a good thing, as all the tables were taken on a Sunday evening. Attention to detail, attentive service, excellent food at very reasonable prices. Thank you for a lovely first evening in Amsterdam.

Excellent food and great atmosphere!

An Italian restaurant close to the Nemo Natural History Museum and the Naval Museum, but in a quiet area free of traffic noise and traffic jams. I went for lunch quite late because my flight arrived at noon, but luckily they had fairly long opening hours. The restaurant has plenty of tables and also has a terrace for when the weather is nice. The menu includes a wide variety of Italian dishes and pizzas. I opted for the rigatoni and Bolognese for the sauce. The dish was very good. I was eager to try the tiramisu, but they had sold out. The waiter who served me was very friendly throughout, trying to speak to me in Spanish and taking an interest in my origins. In short, a good restaurant if you like Italian food.

I went to eat at the Verena restaurant in Amsterdam (the food is higher than excellent, the service is higher than the excellent, and the chef is dazzling and excellent, the restaurant is Italian, I recommend visiting it and enjoying a very high taste in the Netherlands... This cozy restaurant managed by an Italian couple was a nice discovery during my business trip to Amsterdam. Food is handmade and the service is familiar and warm. Try the homemade tiramisu! Delicious!

Really friendly people and fantastic food!

This is not italian food. It‘s a low quality pizza and pasta and way too expensive. We were at Dope Pizzeria yesterday and their pizza has the same price but it’s miles better than this one.

Expensive food, not worth the cost-benefit. The lasagna came boiling hot and was just okay, nothing special. They don't accept cards, not even debit cards in Euros.

Our hotel recommended this restaurant and after reading the reviews as well we booked a table for our first evening meal In Amsterdam. We were not disappointed! The food and service were excellent. We shall be back!

As visitors to Amsterdam we have visited several restuarants but Verena is by far the best we have discovered. The food, service and atomsphere were fantastic and so authentic italian and very reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly - we had the best meal and will be recommending this restuarant to all of our friends.

Loved our dinner here. The staff were super welcoming and very efficient. The lasagne and arrabiata with rigatoni pasta was super tasty and we really enjoyed the homemade tiramisu. Would definitely recommend.

I don't know the history of this restaurant, but to this day, it has nothing Italian about it. I happened to have lunch here, partly because we were with Italian children who wanted pasta and pizza even in Amsterdam. I must say the service was courteous; there were two older people who went out of their way to help. But as an Italian, and especially a Neapolitan, the food didn't really convince me. I wasn't expecting Neapolitan pizza, but what we ate wasn't pizza at all. Even the pasta had ready-made sauces like those from the supermarket. Absolutely not.

When we arrived with two children we were told that we have to leave the strollers outside and to take them on hands, even though there was a lot of space inside. Both waiters were very rude, when we ordered the lady that tended to us said that she will only bring food once. We wanted to keep one menu for later but she grabbed it and shouted that she has to tend to other tables. Wouldn’t recommend

At first, I thought, "Are we going to eat here?" Then my husband said he'd found a good Italian restaurant. From the street, it looks like a takeout pizza place. But!!! Don't let that deter you! We had such a delicious meal! What flavor, what generous portions, and what a delicious tiramisu!!! And the people—it's a family business, passionate about their roots—are incredibly kind and friendly. We'll definitely be back whenever we're in Amsterdam.

The food is phenomenal! We ordered as a family: two pizzas, risotto, and spaghetti. Everything was great. There is only one thing, but... I have never seen such a bad waiter. It's awful... he was like that with everyone. If it weren't for him, it would have been simply wonderful.

Unfortunately, we were completely ignored by the waitress and weren't served for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, a small group of six arrived and received immediate attention. Therefore, I'd prefer not to give it a star.

The food and service were delicious. The location was very picturesque. Because the tables are so close together, it can get noisy, but everyone is doing their own thing.

Amazing experience. The food was good. My son who loves spaghetti ordered 2 plates of Spaghetti. Service was amazing and made sure that we like the food. Definitely recommend!

We were warmly welcomed and advised on our meal choices. The wine was excellent.

We were searching for somewhere to eat that was not in the heart of downtown Amsterdam, so many places there are very loud and this was about a 1 kilometre walk from our downtown hotel. This small family-owned restaurant is quaint, with seating indoors as well as a nice patio. Since it’s not in the middle of downtown, you’re not surrounded by people walking by so our meal on the patio was nice and quiet. We had the bruschetta and caprese salad to start and it was the best we’ve ever had. Their pesto is fantastic! We had pizza for our main, but the highlight of the meal was definitely the tiramisu. The gentleman who served us assured us ‘it’s the best tiramisu of your life, made by my wife’ and he was not wrong. Service, atmosphere and food were all excellent. Even if you don’t want a full meal stop by for dessert, you will not be disappointed!

This was the best pizza I've ever had, and it was open when nothing else was. It also has a very cozy vibe, and an amazing atmosphere.
