Delicious pasta and cool place!

This place has been on my want to go list for forever and I finally made it. What a shame I hadn’t been earlier. This has been such a delicious meal that i immediately wanna go back. The ravioli were to die for. The service was super friendly with mostly (only ?) Italians working there. Such a great atmosphere and I will for sure be back to try more dishes.

Come here for exceptional truffle pasta and kind, skillful service. The only nitpick I have for Pastai is that tiramisu has consistently not been very good, but the rest of the menu, the service and the atmosphere more than make up for it.

We had a nice dinner at Pastai. The food was good and flavourful, but somehow the service was a bit inattentive. Don't get me wrong, everyone was friendly when interacting with us, but considering the restaurant was half full, it was harder than necessary to get the staff's attention to place our order or ask for a wine refill. Not sure if this was done on purpose to give the kitchen some breathing room, but nevertheless it felt a bit off. On the positive side, the food and drinks arrived at the table very quickly. Last but not least, we felt the price/quality ratio was not great. At €72 per person for a starter, a pasta dish and two glasses of wine, it felt a bit expensive compared to other restaurants around Amsterdam.

Pastai is located on J.P. Heijestraat — by now almost renamed the “Jan Pieter Pastastraat”. With about five pasta places within 250 meters, the selection almost gets on your nerves. Yet Pastai clearly manages to distinguish itself: as far as I’m concerned, they serve the best pasta on the street. It is on the pricey side, but the quality largely makes up for that. The starters and desserts, on the other hand, are disappointing and do not reach the same level as the pastas — that is where they really fall short. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the drinks are reasonably priced. The interior does feel a bit dated, but it is not bothersome enough to ruin the experience. All in all: absolutely worth it for the pasta and certainly worth a repeat visit — although there is still much room for improvement outside of the main courses.

Pretty small portions for the price, but the Spaghetti Nduja I had with a creamy sauce was very tasty indeed. You could tell the pasta was fresh and carefully crafted by the chefs that you can watch at work through the open kitchen. I only wish there had been more of it - the mains are nearly €30 each and I'd have loved to have a few more forkfuls. The asparagus Tagliatelle on the other hand had an abundance of pasta but not quite enough sauce. As for non-mains, the burrata wasn't worth the price (€16) and the tiramisu (€11) was cutely presented but lacking in creaminess or depth of flavour. The vibes are quite romantic and this would be a nice place for a date or a business meal, maybe also a small group of friends. There's outside seating available but limited space for things like strollers inside. There were plenty of tables available when we had dinner here at half past 7 but reservations appear to be preferred as we saw some people asked to wait for a table that wasn't reserved. The staff are quite attantive and very friendly.

Never again! A 45-minute wait for two plates of pasta for €30 each, served at tiny tables… only the Dutch can do that 😆

The food was an 11 out of 10. The menu is small, but every dish is exquisite! The truffle pasta is highly recommended, but it's charged at a daily rate! This is clearly stated on the menu. The dessert menu is also very small, but the cakes are fantastic! Reservations are a must!

Get cicchetti with truffle and red shrimp to start. Meet dishes > seafood dishes. Then, for seafood dishes: lobster > broccoli rabe and red shrimp; Meet dishes: duck and mushrooms + +! Wine: X.

Very good pasta and nice tiramisu but everything is very highly priced

Hidden away from the city centre, very good hand made quality pasta. But menu only has pasta- so people who like pizza should keep that in mind. Desserts were great as well, tiramisu isn’t frozen and prepared in advance.

Delicious pasta dishes and amazing starters!! If you are looking for a genuine italian reataurant with a different touch, this is your place. Lovely italian staff also! It is definitely worth a visit and many more as they sometimes change the menu.

I had dinner in Pastai with my boyfriend our last night in Amsterdam. The place is beautiful inside, very cozy, warm and intimate. We shared the arancinis and the pane, burro e acciughe as antipasti. Both of them were really good. I ate spaghetti with San Marzano tomatoes and my boyfriend ate a vaccinara, which was marvellous. The place is really good if you to taste real italian food.

A really nice restaurant, its small size creates an intimate atmosphere. Many "small" restaurants cram tables in, but that's definitely not the case here. The service is top-notch, and my compliments are on the good service. My only complaint... and I've read it in other reviews too... is the salt content in the dishes, which I think could be a bit less.

The atmosphere was very nice, the pasta that I ordered was execute quite well but it was a bit too salty, also I ordered the focaccia with red shrimps was salty and they weren't the red one they were Argentinian shrimps ( you could clearly see it from the color)is not nice to fool people!!! If you don't have a product just communicate and then it would be mine decision if to order or not!

Two of us dined at Pastai yesterday. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, but overpriced for what we got. Pasta for about 23 euros, which was way too salty. Overall, a lovely evening, but pricey for pasta.

We went there yesterday as a couple for dinner, and the wait for the main course was incredibly long. Then the tiny portions arrived, and they were so salty that we couldn't even finish them! And the portions were extremely expensive! I definitely wouldn't recommend this restaurant. For a much more authentic and delicious alternative, try Fiasheteria Pasio in the city center! Save your money, folks!

Everything was perfect: carefully prepared dishes, quality ingredients, and a fantastic atmosphere. It's become my favorite place in Amsterdam. Definitely worth a try!

One of the best pastas we had in Amsterdam. Stuff is really friendly and helpful. We were sitting at the "chef's table" so we could see how everything was cooked, that was a great experience, though I wouldn't recommend it for groups larger than 2-3 people since it's not really comfortable to speak. Pasta was great! We tried 4 different types(PAPPARDELLE ANATRA E PORCINI, TAGLIOLINI AL TARTUFO, LA BOLOGNESE, and maremanna pasta(it's not on the menu anymore))and each one was amazing. Highly recommend the maremanna, Bolognese and anatra e porcini. I personally didn't really like the truffle pasta, but it could be my personal preference(my friend liked it). BUT!! Keep in mind that truffle pasta has "daily price" which end up being 40€!!!! which in my opinion is extremely overpriced, my it was our fault not to ask it in advance(but we couldn't imagine that pasta could cost 40€, when other ones were around 23-25€). Also we tried the ARANCINO CON TARTARE DI TONNO which was a really good spicy-crispy antipasti. Also two people from the group said that pasta was oversalted, so if you are sensitive to salt you should keep that in mind( I love salty food so it was perfect for me). Overall experience was excellent! I would definitely recommend to visit this place.

Lovely lobster pasta. They use great quality ingredients- definitely one of my favorite pasta restaurants in Amsterdam. I also loved their Sposabella Barbera

I had some pretty high expectations based on the average reviews. However, the food was really underwhelming with little-to-no taste and relatively small portions. We were a group of 5, we’ve all ordered different things and we were all hungry afterwards.

The service is impeccable, however food was too salty for both of us (even though we ordered 2 different pastas). After a request to remake it, we were told that the sauce is premade and frozen and it’s impossible to make it less salty. It was also served veeery quickly which was weird, bcs pasta takes to time to cook, so I assume most of the ingredients are frozen. Now I read previous reviews and I see that “salty” problem persists, so I really hope owner of the place reads those reviews, because for this kind of money, the food should be perfect.

It is just wonderful here: great food, lovely service, but….. the music…per favore it is too loud and at times quite noisy for such an intimate place…

I love Pastai, the pasta is amazing and cocktails are great. But the portions are too small and feels like they are getting smaller each time I come back. You almost need to take two main dishes. I left hungry

The waiter were lovely and very helpful, the place is very cozy, but the lobster in the tagliolini all'astice ordered were slightly undercooked and it missed a little bit of flavor. I mistook previously the word lobster for prawn, but it was not a tartare. It can provide a good time for the ambience, but I particularly wouldn't recommend it only for the food

Lovely place. The food was delicious and the service was super friendly. The only downside – the pasta with prawn tartare was way too salty. The waitress said it was because of the pecorino, but honestly it tasted like someone added a big extra pinch of salt on top. Still tasty, just overly salted🌚

it has a lovely atmosphere with open kitchen and the service was kind and joyful, the food however, was salty. Not bad, the pasta texture was great, the presentation too, but the taste wasn’t that great, less salt would have helped

The restaurant is very cute, cozy and well styled. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The food was very good, we also took some appetizers (crostini with scamorza and mushrooms and the pumpkin vellutata). Four stars are for the total price of the night.

Delicious pasta! We tried fettuccine d’antunno and it was the best pasta we have ever tried 💯 we also tried ravioli di zola radicchio e cipolla confit it was also perfect but the one with pumpkin was really delicious

We came here for the second time and once again had a sublimely delicious meal. What a fantastic restaurant! The warm welcome, the delicious pastas, and the joy of watching the chefs at work in the open kitchen—very inspiring. The crudo di tonno remains our favorite appetizer, but really, everything is delicious. In short, a top-notch experience that we highly recommend. The Chef's Table is a must-try. If we lived near Amsterdam, we'd come here weekly!

A truly authenthic Italian restaurant. We had the Lobster Tagliolini - pasta was cooked al dente perfectly, the sauce from the lobster bisque added depth of flavour into the dish. The Parpadelle with duck ragout was a new combo we never heard before and it was superb!

Absolutely terrible and expensive

We went for a team dinner here. It was perfect place for good food and conversations. Must try : Tiramisu and the seasonal pasta dish. They have good selection of wines and drinks.

The exposed candles are romantic but a safety concern, the food and atmosphere is great tho, but be prepared its quite a small space.

We had dinner here with a friend on a Saturday night. We hadn't made a reservation, but there was still a table available for 2.5 hours. It's a small, intimate restaurant with an open kitchen. The staff is Italian 😌. We were assigned a sommelier for the wine, who suggested the perfect wine based on my preferences 👌🏾. The menu isn't extensive, but it has plenty of choices. For our appetizer, we had the focaccia with olive oil and tuna marinated in smoked vinegar and topped with truffle. Man, oh man, oh man, that tuna: divine! Hopefully, this will be a permanent feature on the menu. The mild sweet and sour marinade combined with the slice of truffle on top—brilliant! I'm not a big fan of truffle, but this was incredibly delicious. The bread, however, was tough. My friend can only eat gluten-free, but there were plenty of options. We had the pasta with osso buco ragout and the spaghetti with stracciatella. Both pastas were so flavorful. The deep flavors in the osso buco ragout, I can taste them again. That red, creamy cheese sauce with the spaghetti was a-ma-zing!!! Of course, we finished with dessert: tiramisu and affogato. The tiramisu was so fresh, light, rich, and creamy, served in a flowerpot—delicious. The affogato martini was also very good. I don't like coffee myself, but I tried it anyway—it was delicious. You pay a bit more in this restaurant, but it's more than worth it. The service was also excellent—very attentive, clean, and professional! And last but not least, the restroom is beautifully tiled, spacious, fresh, and clean. We ate here for the second time. The pastas were sooooo delicious, I almost wanted to dance. This time I sat at the chef's table. It was fun to watch the dishes being prepared and presented with perfection. This time we had the pasta bolognese and the "autumn" pasta with duck and mushrooms. Wow, wow, wow. The flavors are so intense, and you can taste every fresh ingredient. This restaurant is now THE ITALIAN restaurant to visit. Thank you! 👌🏾👌🏾 Thank you!!

Shocking service, it takes a long time for the dishes to arrive There is a waitress there who is curly like a sheep. I clearly asked her for pasta without parmesan. The dish arrived with I told her that I asked you without and she actually lied to my face and claimed that it was not, I returned it and said that it was her mistake.. It didn't interest them at all and they didn't offer to replace I asked for the bill straight away, of course I was charged for the dish Didn't arrive, a trash can of a place

An intimate, beautiful place with super-welcoming staff. I don't usually go to Italian restaurants abroad, but a friend highly recommended it, so we decided to try it. We ate wonderfully! The arancini with tuna tartare were truly sublime. Kudos to the chef, who didn't overturn our gastronomic culture to pay homage to the city where he's located, adapting the cuisine to the locals' tastes. The cuisine remains authentic Italian, not strictly traditional, but truly excellent. I look for places like this in Italy. My compliments to the girls in the dining room!

We had a wonderful family dinner at Pastai. The pasta was fresh, authentic, and full of flavor—just like in Italy. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and the staff were attentive and kind, making us and our daughter feel right at home. A true gem in Amsterdam that we would be happy to return to!

So everthing was perfect.Food was amazing especially the eggplant starter. I loved the tomato pasta. The waiters were amazing as well and they did the best they could howewer we felt they were a bit understaffed, having one more person as a waiter would be perfect.🙌

Pastai was an excellent italian restaurant. The food was excellent as was the service and ambiance. I got the bolognese which was excellent. My friend go the FLOWERS CACIO E PEPE. I shied away from the flowers dish because of the name, but next time I'm going to get it. If you don't want the "flowers" just push them to the side and this dish looked like an amazing pasta dish in a light cream sauce.

I come here every year, and the food never disappoints. It’s honestly one of the highlights of my trip. I would love to have a location in Hamburg – I’d be there all the time! Until then, I’ll keep coming back to Amsterdam just for this place. Highly recommend!
