Pianeta Terra in Grachtengordel-Zuid

Pianeta Terra is a rare gem in Amsterdam. The Italian owners, who have lived here for 25 years, have rebuilt the true spirit of Italian cooking by putting territory and seasonality at the centre of every choice. They work with local producers and Slow Food Presidia, creating dishes that start from Italian tradition but are shaped by what the Dutch land offers in each season. The result is sincere, original and incredibly good. It was honestly one of the best meals I have ever had. I had fish and my husband had meat and both were exceptional. The fish in particular was unbelievably tender, with a depth of flavour I had never experienced before. You can taste the quality of the ingredients and the respect with which they are treated. Dessert was unforgettable, a tiramisù with a subtle Japanese twist and a delicate rice pudding on top. A surprising combination that made the whole experience even more memorable. Pianeta Terra is a beautiful meeting point between Italy and the Netherlands and absolutely worth a visit.

The chef's vegetarian/fish menu was excellent. As always, very good and sustainable ingredients and delicious, surprising natural wines. The bisque was excellent with scallops and shrimp from the Wadden Sea. The staff knows everything about the dishes, ingredients, and wine. Great atmosphere and delicious food. Highly recommended, also for lunch!

Really wonderful restaurant in the center of Amsterdam. The location is very comfortable. Tucked away in an unassuming side street, the interior is well laid out and intelligently decorated with interesting pieces. The service was very attentive, leaving us to want for nothing. We tried the tasting menu with wine pairing, and were quite pleased with each of the dishes. It is important to note that this is not Italian cuisine, but an eclectic mix of European with some Asian influences, crafted by Italians (so of course very well executed). Each dish was well-balanced and had a solid flavor profile. Not overly complex but well done in each case. I will say that the one dish that stood out was an Asian-inspired starter involving a number of ingredients including cuttlefish and black rice. That particular dish was complex but perfectly done, and was the highlight of the evening. If that level of complexity could be incorporated into more of the dishes, the menu could only improve. The wine pairing I will also applaud, as each wine of our five courses was perfectly matched to the dish, including two styles which I normally am not fond of, but found in this case to be both complementary and enjoyable. Overall, a very enjoyable evening which motivates my imminent return. Well done.

Especially points for the cozy location and professional service, but the food was unfortunately much less than expected. You don't immediately expect the exact same dishes as those on the menu. If I knew that, you'd just choose what you liked best. I also found the main course, the pork neck, really disappointing. You expect a really nice piece of beef or fish, but not this. The dessert was messy and unremarkable. The pasta dish was, of the four courses, very tasty. Plenty of wine by the glass, which is generally nice. Unfortunately, the first glass of red wine tasted "flat," and the second glass of red "not good." I'd really prefer a minimal selection and a nice, full-bodied wine. The service was friendly, but you choose such a beautiful place for the food, of course.

Beautiful and especially delicious Italian dishes. It's like receiving a gift every time. Each dish is explained about the ingredients and their flavors. Advice on the right Italian wine or beer to pair with each dish. The restaurant is run entirely by Italians, who are very friendly and helpful.

We decided to go for the 5 courses tasting menu. The anti pasti was really good, the dishes were balanced and complex in flavors, bringing something special. Then, the pasta arrived and despite being good, it felt underwhelming compared to the anti pasti. To finish, we had duck beast as a main and it was the most underwhelming dish on the entire menu. So, overall was good food and atmosphere, but the decline with every dish let me feeling like I don't need to come back again, there's little room to be surprised here.

Heerlijke avond gehad bij Pianeta Terra. We waren hier samen al 3 keer geweest. Gisteravond hebben wij onze ouders meegenomen naar dit geweldige restaurant. De bediening is supervriendelijk en het eten fantastisch. Een 5 gangen verrassingsmenu met bijpassende wijnen, echt genieten!

Bastante decepcionante. Siendo Italiano yo mismo, tenía bastantes expectativas basadas en el sitio web y las afirmaciones sobre ser el mejor restaurante Italiano en los Países Bajos. Pero honestamente no me impresionó en absoluto: la comida era mediocre, nada particularmente original o Italiano verdaderamente auténtico. I have been this place several times, and LOVE it. Booked this place half a month in advance (with a €30 deposit per person). I heard it’s one of the best Italian restaurants in Amsterdam, and honestly, it really impressed me. Compared to other fine dining spots, this one feels more grounded and genuine. No showy gimmicks — just great food and warm service. Although it was for a birthday meal, it didn’t have the festive vibe of somewhere like The White Room, but I still appreciated the cozy and authentic Italian feel (so many people saying “ciao”! 😂). We ordered the most expensive 7-course “BE ALL” tasting menu, which included both meat and seafood. No wine pairing this time, but we did try two different wines — both were fruity and quite nice. Highlights of the meal: • Main Course 1: Poached codfish with spinach and carrot purée, topped with green romesco sauce — surprisingly tasty. • Main Course 2: Lamb with beetroot jus, paired with artichoke, king oyster mushrooms, and broccoli. Flavorful and well-balanced. • Dessert was a real surprise — Italian sweets never disappoint! It included elderflower sorbet with chocolate mousse and a grape-based sauce, garnished with almond crumbs and fruit. What stood out the most? Even the vegetarian dishes were amazing. As someone who usually prefers meat, I ended up finishing all the veggie courses too. Turns out I don’t dislike vegetables — I just hadn’t had ones this good before! 🥹

We had two ala carte dinners and one 5 course chef's menu. Atmosphere was lovely and service was great (as always). One member of our group did note the bavette was not as tender as previous times. The bread was delicious, the carpaccio of kingfish was lovely (my personal favourite), we enjoyed the coulant of chocolate and the cheese selection. See you again soon!

In a special street, in a beautiful building, great dishes are cooked here and served at the table by a very nice and enthusiastic team! In addition, a delicious wine from Friuli is drunk. A visit to Pianeta Terra is really recommended!

Fantastic restaurant and service. We have been coming there for almost 25 years and it has only gotten better. You are really spoiled here. Everything neat and tidy, but with warmth from the heart!

The restaurant is beautiful and the service incredible. The only regret we had was asking what all was going to be served that night as two of the diners would have asked for something different for the main course as the don’t like duck; our mistake we would know for the next time.

We enjoyed the buried items that were served to us in our five course meal. Each one was a feast for the eyes and palate. Interesting combinations of food! Although we didn’t understand any of these items to be Italian as far as what we’re used to they were all delicious and interesting. The owner was also our server and checked with this to see how things were and was delightful to converse with at the end of the evening. As a person who doesn’t drink alcohol very often, but always prefers my Diet Coke… I was offered an alternative imported from Italy. It was quite delicious and I wish I could find it easily back home in USA. Thank you for this experience – if we end up in Amsterdam again, we will be back!

We spent 1 evening in this sweet restaurant during our trip to Amsterdam as 2 couples. We chose the 5 course menu. We also drank a wine of our own choosing. Food was delicious. For dessert, we enjoyed the cheesecake and lemon pudding in quiche. I recommend…

What a great restaurant! We had the 4 course menu with wine pairing. For dinner we had a very nice pinot grigio from Slovenia and then all the wines were Italian. Very good service, not too pushy but certainly present and attentive. Dishes were beautifully served and the wines were well chosen. Good vibe in the restaurant, perfect acoustics.

The experience was excellent, from start to finish. The quality of the food exceeded expectations, and to be frank is worth more than the price point. Pamper yourself for a few hours with the 7 courses meal, and enjoy the expertise and storytelling, which comes with a sustainable approach too. We came for dinner after reading the great reviews online. We went for the 7 course menu and chose to be surprised by the dishes. The service was very attentive and informative and the restaurant is very nice inside. The wine was lovely and there was a large selection and we don’t often drink wine either. The food was good and a lot of variety and different tastes, but I would not say that the tastes blew me away, I expected to be more impressed for the price we paid. We also spent 3 hours in the restaurant to get the 7 courses and the bill which felt an excessive amount of time. The portion sizes were particularly small and we left hungrier than we arrived. We don’t often eat at places like this so we may not be typical of people who eat at bespoke restaurants, but we did go to De Kas two days before (a different cuisine) but similar price point, we would much sooner return there than here for the reasons above and more.

Everything was amazing. Special food, lovely people and an amazing spot in the centre of Amsterdam! Because of my Italian partner, i know the Italian kitchen a little but this was really another level. We will come back for sure!
