Golden Temple has been a household name among vegetarians for decades, and for good reason. Most dishes are based on Indian cuisine, but there's also plenty of room for creative inspiration from other cuisines, and the menu is regularly updated. It's a good idea to make a reservation in advance. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and presented with the menu. The red iced tea we ordered tasted a bit stale, but the food was truly delicious. We started with the naan and paneer skewers. Both were new dishes for us and we thoroughly enjoyed them. For our main course, the two of us shared the enchilada and the paneer masala. These dishes were also well-seasoned and beautifully balanced in texture, freshness, and flavor. We finished off our meal with the coconut speculoos pie—a staple here for years—and the new panna cotta. The food here isn't cheap, but it is very tasty.

One of my favorite restaurants in Amsterdam. Cozy place with hearty, wholesome food. All vegetarian, mostly vegan (clearly marked on the menu). Love the raised seating area in front of the window.

Great food, everything just takes WAY TOO LONG, which is shame We got 2 Indian mixed dishes and it took around an hour to get it, and the restaurant wasn’t even full!!!!!!

We rolled up in Golden Temple w/o a reservation, which we didn’t think would be a problem given that there were only two other parties—a two-top & a four-top, there—but were immediately told we could only have a table for 90m. This is a pet peeve of mine 1. Because 2/3 of how long a cover takes consists of how fast the kitchen is—for the record, they’re reasonably fast—& how attentive the service is, 2. It’s a horrible first impression for someone in the hospitality industry to give & 3.(& there is no way they could have know this) I was a waiter for 10 years & hate sitting, so I’m the LAST person who is gonna overstay his welcome. As it happens, we finished before EITHER of the parties that were there when we arrived & practically had to jump-tackle a server to get our check. That said, the food was delicious. Masamam Curry is my go-to at a Thai restaurant, so I’ve had my fair share of it, & this was good. I’d also never had it with tofu & didn’t think it would be as flavorful as the imitation duck I usually get, but it really was delicious. & the use of tiny potatoes—as opposed to cut up larger potatoes—was inspired because it ensures they are all cooked perfectly & evenly. Be warned that, while tasty, the cheesy naan is more like a quattro formaggi pizza; ain’t nuttin’ wrong with that…just not what I’d expected. The decor is also 👨🏻‍🍳🤌🏼.

After over 30 years, I ate here again and it was fantastic. We'll be back soon. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, fast, and flexible. Good value for money. I highly recommend Yogi Chai; it's perfect for two people. It's a small space with a lot of people, but that makes it quite cozy.

That soup was really great, full of flavor, you could taste that they had put time into it, not as watery as in other places, I also had some naan with it, super soft and warm, really perfect with it, service was a bit slow but she smiled sweetly so it was ok, we went home completely satisfied

Absolutely excellent! We had the momos and Taste of India, both of which were delicious. The service was very attentive and friendly.

The food was incredibly delicious; we had the chef's four-course vegan menu. Everything was served at a pleasant pace. As far as I can tell, it felt like authentic Indian food. There were some lovely, unique drink options. We sat on cushions on a raised platform by the window. The atmosphere was wonderful, and the restaurant itself had a wonderful ambiance. A cuddly cat purred next to us. It was a great experience, highly recommended!

A wonderfully atmospheric vegetarian/vegan restaurant. The dishes were delicious. The two of us walked in spontaneously. It filled up quickly, though, so I think we were lucky. There was a lovely, atmospheric spot by the window, a real conversation pit. We didn't sit there, but I thought it would be nice to sit there next time. The service was very attentive and friendly.

Indian cuisine, friendly and lovely staff all vegetarian /vegan dishes that are originally from northern India. there is seating on the first floor and on the second floor of the restaurant. The ambience and the music/decor was really on point. The food came really quickly, and there was lots of flavor in the meals that were provided. I wouldn’t say it 100% compares to the Indian cuisine that you’ll get in the UK however the chili mushroom and the paneer masala/ Tofu masala for dishes that stood out in our eyes. we give this experience a 4 out of 5

Food: the garlic naan was so-so, but not what I’m used to, dips were good, main (flavours of india thali) was extremely salty (uneatable imho without rice), one of the dishes had a taste that I did not trust to eat, mango lassi was good but warm

Awesome dinner, great vegetarian food even for the South American carnivore we brought. Gluten Free options came in handy. Just a pity they don’t make the Banana Cream Cake anymore. Highly recommended. You are gonna pay a bit more than the average ‘hippy place’ however great food and vibes.

I don't know where these 4.6 stars come from. Defenitly not from their food. We ordered Momos, Paneer tikka, Mango Lassi, Garlic Nan, Mashroom Nan, Flavours of India Thali, and their Saffron Paneer. Given the rating we had good expectations. However, it turned into vain. The momos were not good, worse than what you get as Frozen Gyozas in any normal supermarket. The paneer tikka was colored to red and felt stale. In the lassi they add lemon and sour grapes - who in the right mindset adds that? The Thali was the only okayish dish - and came with one small chappathi. The chappathi was fine. The Golder Paneer dish was a disaster despite good looks: stale paneer, bad gravy, low quality (sticky) rice. On service, the waitress took for ever to come despite we being the only customer at that time. We could hear arguing presumably between the chef and waitress from where we were sitting (near to the front part). The price range for the location is towards the higher side. I am never coming here again.

The staff at this restaurant get along well. It's very pleasant for customers to have smiling staff and a good atmosphere emanating from the team. All this, of course, is accompanied by excellent quality food. Congratulations to the entire team... Patrick

Exceptional Food, as always, one of our favorite spots in Amsterdam.

The Food was rather bland. The Tofu Masala tasted heavily like tomatoe sauce. The curry seemed rather unseasoned, too. And the raita felt watery. Thr spinach and the grilled aubergine were very nice though.

I took my friend out to dinner here. The food was amazing, very flavorful and big enough portions, we couldn't finish it all. We had the tali (and some pakora and naan as an appetizer) and were stuffed! There was only one girl working the tables, and Noone was waiting long. I was very impressed. The prices were very good as well! Would recommend! ❤️

I ordered the tofu tikka masala after seeing the glowing google reviews here and the garlic naan bread. The presentation was beautiful and the food arrived super quickly, but the tofu tikka masala seemed to be missing any spices… it just tasted like stewed vegetables in tomato sauce to me which was disappointing. The garlic naan with the different chutneys were all super tasty though and closer to what I’d expect at an Indian restaurant. TL;DR I’d only recommend the naan and avoid the tikka masala.

Fast service, excellent food, friendly staff. Went there to celebrate and we weren’t disappointed. The mixed entree’s were exceptional, we chose the „Taste of India“ as main dish and it was really good as well. Desserts were amazing as well! 10/10

It says they close at 11, they will not let you sit if you arrive after 9:30.

Waiting for it seemed like 10 mins at the door waiting to be seated. The waiters kept coming close to us, looking directly at us, and then moving away. Who treats people like that? If you’re busy at least acknowledge the presence of new guests. What the hell?! PS: maybe instead of coming at potential customers, you can actually focus on customer service ;)

They have Indian thali with 4 kinds of vegetable items to eat single Chapati 😂😂...I didn't get the logic..

We were in a bit of a hurry, the 4-course dinner wasn't that convenient, but what nice people! We got dessert to take away, enjoyed it later. And most importantly: the food was fantastically delicious, really worth coming back for!

What an incredibly nice restaurant! We sat in the alcove by the window with a group of friends. It was so super relaxed and the food was fantastic! Friendly staff and recently recommended the restaurant to family and colleagues.

It was once again a feast of taste and color! The staff is SO incredibly sweet and because this is not the case everywhere; a big compliment! For me as a guest it is the combination of food and service that makes a restaurant stand out. Hadn't been there for a while but I regret that now🙈. And the icing on the cake; there was a beautiful performance by a Brazilian singer with guitar. We enjoyed it!! Forgot to take a photo because we were busy enjoying ourselves😋

I recently visited this restaurant thinking it served North Indian cuisine (Punjabi), but I was pleasantly surprised to discover it was actually a kind of Himalayan restaurant! The menu offered a unique blend of traditional Himalayan dishes with a modern twist. Note to North Indians:* If you're expecting traditional North Indian cuisine, pls note that this restaurant serves Himalayan food and not authentic Punjabi cuisine as the name suggest. The flavors and dishes may be different from what you're used to, but trust me, it's worth trying! *Recommendation:* If you're looking for a unique dining experience and want to try something new, this Himalayan restaurant would suit people who like to have medium spicy food.

The restaurant was small, and some of the tables were spaced very awkwardly. The chef spoke very loudly in the open kitchen, which was very distracting. It wasn't cozy; it was a bit annoying.

I go to this place relatively often and take people here when they're in town. The food is delicious every time, the restaurant is cute and nicely decorated with a very cozy ambiance. Super friendly staff. Also really good pricing.

What an incredible find on our last night here- and only around the corner from our Bnb. The ambience is lovely and so inviting. The prices are totally reasonable for everything on the menu. I had a sampler and my friend had the coconut curry. The organic beer with my dinner was a perfect combo and the chai tea for dessert topped off our meal nicely. Loved the clove in the chai. All the servers were sweet and efficient.

Food was good, loved that everything is vegetarian. Atmosphere was lovely too. However, service was lacking especially from the young man who seemed to be annoyed working there. Didn't make eye contact whatsoever. The young lady was kind, but did forget out bottle of water.

Disappointed Experience at Golden Temple Indian Restaurant First, I want to start with a positive note — the restaurant has a cute and cozy ambiance. The decor was charming, and it felt like a welcoming place to sit down and enjoy a meal. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives ended for me. The food was incredibly overrated and overpriced for what it was. As someone coming from the USA who has enjoyed truly authentic Indian cuisine — both at restaurants and homemade by Indian families — I was quite saddened by how far the food here strayed from genuine Indian flavors. What made it even more disappointing was knowing that the restaurant is owned by someone who is Indian and Sikh. I would have expected a much closer representation of traditional Indian cooking, but instead, the dishes felt watered down, lacking depth, and authenticity. In all honesty, I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone looking for a true Indian food experience. There are much better options elsewhere.

Everything was very good, the food and the smoothies (the mango one was especially delicious) The Spanish waitress was very attentive and pleasant. The relaxed atmosphere, with not too many people, then it started to fill up. The table with cushions that faces the street is very top kitten included

We had a really delicious meal at the golden temple. Perfect for our group with a vegetarian and low-carb diet. Perfect portions and wonderful to taste all the flavors. Plenty of delicious options, even if you're not a vegetarian!

Nice atmosphere, delicious food. Negative points: the dishes came very quickly after each other. If I want to eat at a fast pace, I don't go to a restaurant. The four-course menu contained virtually no proteins, while the restaurant indicates that it wants to contribute to the health of guests with the dishes.

Ate here for the first time and it was delicious. People who say vegetarian food doesn't taste good have never been here. Until next time!

I visited last December and was disappointed with the experience. The food lacked flavor, almost as if the recipes had been lost in translation. We arrived without a reservation, but since the restaurant was half-empty, they seated us. However, we were informed that the kitchen was about to close and needed to order quickly—yet we still waited at least 20 minutes for someone to take our order. The service was poor, and getting a waiter’s attention was a struggle. Calling this Indian food feels like an insult.

We loved everything about our experience at the Golden Temple! We were kindly greeted by the in-house cat, the service was very friendly and accommodating, the food was made pretty fast, and it was absolutely delicious. I loved the spice mix in my paneer masala dish, and it was also very beautifully served. Highly recommend this gem!

Too rich. I recommend 100%. We ordered spring rolls, mushroom Naan, pakora, flavors of India and kingfisher. Everything to share. WOW

Very cozy restaurant with even a place where you can sit on cushions on the floor. The food is very tasty, almost everyone in the restaurant orders the traditional dish where you get different flavors in containers (thali).

If not, vegetarian, very tasty food. Was here again after years with my sister-in-law (the first time was just a few days before everything closed due to Corona). Last time everything was served at a high pace, now there was time to enjoy everything.

We ordered two meals and two sides, but only one meal and one side arrived. Even worse, the one meal that did arrive didn't meet the description. No poppadom, chapati or chutney was included. No problem! Let's call the restaurant. They'll be helpful, right? Nope - "we are too busy tonight, there's nothing we can do" and "oops, the item description must be wrong". Long story short, if you are thinking of ordering from this restaurant on Uber Eats or any other online platform - expect to receive half your order, expect to share one meal between two people, expect the meal description to be completely false, and expect staff who are too busy to help paying customers. Finally, to the management at Golden Temple, it's a choice to accept orders on these platforms. If you are too busy to provide decent service, don't accept orders. If you don't care about helping customers when something goes wrong, don't accept orders. While you're at it, at the very least, update your menu descriptions and stop falsely advertising extras that are not included.

The food was fantastic! We really had a great time and the service was great too! It was a really relaxed atmosphere, and we never felt rushed. The guests in the restaurant were all nice friendly and happy people too. We will definitely go back again.

Delicious vegetarian food here: the Flavors of India and Sticky date, beautifully presented. Super relaxed atmosphere: very tastefully decorated, comfortable seating on lounge sofas, friendly service. So wonderful to have a quiet dinner here, I would love to come back here! I chose this restaurant for a lunch date with my friend, who is vegetarian, as I wanted to go somewhere with plenty of options for him. I made a reservation online for 13:30 and even called the restaurant to confirm it. We arrived on Sunday, February 9th, at 13:30, only to find the restaurant still closed when it was supposed to be open. Eventually, the cook let us in and seated us at the only table that was set. He seemed unsure about why his colleague wasn’t there, saying they had probably forgotten they were working—an extremely frustrating response, especially considering we had a confirmed reservation. To make matters worse, the restaurant was freezing. We later found out they didn’t even have a heating system. While we waited in the cold, the cook offered us a pot of tea, but it didn’t do much to improve the experience. We ordered three dishes: • Cheese naan, which turned out to be an odd version of pizza with Gorgonzola, feta, and a third type of cheese. • India Kitchari (ordered by my friend). • Tofu tikka masala (my choice). Unfortunately, the food was disappointingly bland. There was no apology for the poor service, and we weren’t offered any discount despite the unpleasant experience. In the end, we paid €64.50, which didn’t feel justified. Overall, this was not a good experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
