Guru Restaurant in Rijnbuurt

At the beginning, everything was fine: the staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, the coffee was delicious, and the appetizers before the main course were absolutely delicious. We ordered two main dishes and then asked for a different third dish, but they brought us the same dish we had already ordered. When we pointed this mistake out, they did not offer to bring the correct dish or fix the situation in any way. We told three waiters about this mistake, and none of them offered to correct their mistake. We also ordered khir to go. But it was impossible to eat because it was just pure sugar, so much sugar that it simply couldn't be eaten. In the end, we left €90 and were completely disappointed with this restaurant.

Delicious food, but the service is unbelievably good. We were looked after like VIP guests by very patient waiters!

I literally love GURU !!! Ive been here at least 10 times and I will come plenty more times!! We have both helped each other out on many occasions.* *too expand on what i mean. I usually order 2 curry's becouse I have a big appetite and also because they always make me amazing food!! They have helped me when I have been in difficult situations. * This is from an English man who loves curry's and food in general, and ive had hundreds of thousands of curry's and this place really hits the spots!!! This place was in my "want to go" list for a long time. It's not exactly in the center, it's a 20 minutes walk from the Amstel station. But well worth it! I had Pani Puri as a light starter, 4 nicely presented pieces. Followed by Chicken Tikka Balti on recommendation of an Indian colleague. And I enjoyed it, I might come back here. I was seated on the terrace - what do you want when temperatures rise above 28°... It's not India yet but it adds to the experience!

The food is amazing. So amazing that in our one week stay in Amsterdam we ate here three times! The staff and the service is amazing. Especially Amrindersingh, his welcome and his positive energy and warm smile made our experience even better. Definitely recommend this place.

For me, 4.8 is overrated. It is good but not incredible. Ordered chicken biryani and it is very different to any chicken biryani’s I ever tried (even in India), not bad but not the real deal. Service extremely slow (3stars go for service, otherwise food would be 4), it took them 1 hour and 10 minutes to bring food to table from the moment we arrived, we were starving and it was not even that busy. I would go back if I was around neighborhood but definitely I won’t transport myself there to eat

We are customers of this restaurant. We came every Friday until my stepson decided to start a keto diet. After a year my partner asked if he could make a special dish for his son. The food is very delicious. I ordered regular tikka masala and Peter chicken, which was the most delicious. I also had regular green salad, regular chicken tikka, and delicious naan bread.

Really one of the best restaurants I've eaten in Amsterdam!! The food is exceptionally tasty, the staff is incredibly friendly and the atmosphere on the Rijnstraat is very cozy. The food also came very quickly. Ideal place if you want to eat delicious and cozy Indian, really recommended!

Good food, nice location and restaurant. Unfortunately only the naan bread was old stuff. After 10 minutes it was hard and crispy... which should actually stay nice and soft. So we actually got 6 old pieces of naan bread. In the end I paid almost 200 euros for food with 3 people. Then you want everything to be fresh.

The butter Cheken was so sweet, more than usual. The white rice is not that good (so solid). Biryani cheken is delicious.

One of the best indian restraunts in amsterdam. Food quality is amazing and also everything is delicious . I tried out paneer, biryani , dal makhni, mango lassi, everything is great. Whenever i am craving for indian food i know Guru is where i need to go. The staff is super friendly. The prices are a bit on the higher side but for the food quality its worth.

Absolutely fantastic! From the cute décor, to the welcoming friend serving, topped off by the flavoursome well cooked food. There was an extend wait for food but worth it and the big portion sizes Absolutely no complaints. We did reserve a table, which is always good as they get very busy.

The staff was really nice and we enjoyed our food. It was just a little bit lacking in rich spices and thinner than we usually like it. Overall we had good vegan meals and had a great conversation with the workers.

As part of Kesari tour package, we were supposed to have our Lunch at this place on 12th April 2025 at 2 PM. Due to some delays at Tulip Garden, we were not able to reach on time. We reached the restaurant around 3.10 PM. However, we were shocked to know that restaurant owner refused to provide food in his restaurant. Instead, he provided packed lunch boxes. All 30 people - including senior citizens & kids were really Hungry. We were forced to eat this on the banks of some canal as if we were beggars. This was a terrible experience.

I came here with a group of five people on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant was about 3/4 full, which is a good sign. We received the menus and the waiter very helpful in describing the dishes and was overall quite cordial. We got our drinks (I ordered the mango lassi which was really good), and the starters that some of us had ordered. So far so good. We finished those starters, and then the wait begun. We sat really close to the kitchen, so we could see waiters passing by our table bringing food to other customers, thus increasing our own appetites. However, our main courses did not arrive. At some point, a person (who I presume was) the manager drew attention to his other waiters that our table is still empty. I believe he did it twice or so. So they seemed to be aware as well, but the food still was not there. In fact, they did not arrive for about 1.5 hours and we had to ask the waiters if our food was coming. I understand that we came during one of the busiest times of the week, but around us there were customers who came after us, but also left before we even got our food. In the end, we received our main courses, and the presentation was really nice and the wait made us hungrier, so you would think that the food became tastier. However, I have to admit, the food was only decent. I am by no means an expert on indian cuisine, but I've tried it many times in different places and I had better, more flavourful, and spicier indian dishes, for a lower price and a shorter wait time. One of us ordered the chicken madras, and it has two peppers according to the menu, but I could eat it despite having quite a low tolerance to spice. I could also get more meat per dish elsewhere. The naan was good, but that's not what I come for to an Indian restaurant. I have to be honest and say that I expected more from a restaurant with such high reviews.

Excellent, flavorful food with generous portions (The bread basket is huge). The atmosphere is spacious and comfortable and the service friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable for the whole pleasant experience. We had delicious leftovers the next day. Highly recommend it.

Everything tastes good when you're hungry, and this place adds to it. No loud music. You can talk with friends and family while eating. Team- team is really supportive and friendly. Food service is also very fast. My table was being served by "Amrinder Singh." He personally takes care of your demand in terms of choice and recommends you the best dishes. It took 1 hour for the food to arrive. Then it finally arrived with whole parts of dishes missing. Then we ordered something that never arrived.

The food wasn't the very best I've ever had, but it was certainly fine. The atmosphere is a bit canteen-like, calm and brightly lit. I thought the price quality was very high and the toilet and stairs leading to it were really not clean.

Without a doubt this is the best and nicest restaurant I have been to this year. I expected that we would eat at a typical Italian restaurant, but nothing could be further from the truth. To our surprise it was a very nice restaurant with friendly staff. The food was truly Indian and tasted like I was on holiday in India again. The price was a little higher than normal, but let's be honest, that's always the case in Amsterdam. Parking was possible in front of the door, so nothing to complain about there either.

Best Indian in Amsterdam in my opinion. So tastey and just the right amount of spice. The service is great and they know the food very well. Been here 4/5 times over the past two years and it’s very consistent.

Wow, what an experience. We dined tonight after driving 6 hours with a tired baby, all the way from Germany. We were sat down and ordered our starters and drinks as our baby started to get restless. We were about to leave to save the other diners experience, but instead were moved to a different, more private section of the restaurant. Here we could enjoy our food while our baby was able to play on the floor. Absolutely incredible service and food! Thanks guys for everything. We’ll be back!

My first and I'm sure also the last time in an Indian restaurant!!! Experience to forget!! To start, we were offered some appetizers with a bread with an unspecified but truly unpleasant taste! Then we ordered the Pani puri....terrible texture and flavour! As main courses we ordered lamb tandoori, fish and another special chicken dish whose name I don't remember. The fish dish was inedible, the chicken dish was decent, only the lamb could be considered good. On the other hand, the waiters were very kind and attentive. The price is high for the quality of the food. We spent 33 euros each
