you don’t come here for the decor but for the excellent chicken vindaloo w. mango lassi. a guru for indian cooking indeed.

Food is amazing we ordered Butter Chicken 👌🏾 Chicken Biryani 👏🏾 and Tikka Masala. Everything was perfect I would recommend everyone to pass by if you need best Indian food in Amssterdam

One of the best mango lassis I've tried in Amsterdam. Service is top notch, friendly with good recommendations and the place is very clean and nicely decorated. Plating is beautiful and the food never dissapoints.

I have eaten here several times over the last 3 years and it has always been excellent.

The curries were incredibly rich in flavor, a true gastronomic feast. We had to wait over an hour for our food (something happened that day, not necessarily a regular occurrence), which spoiled the experience a bit, but the food was so delicious that we left satisfied.

The food was very good; the only thing I hadn't quite expected was the naan bread, but it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, and we also enjoyed the restaurant's ambiance. Highly recommended if you're looking for Indian food.

We made a reservation because of the good reviews. But it wasn't the 'wow' we had expected. The food was okay, but we have eaten at better Indian restaurants. We had to wait a long time for drinks and food. The service and kitchen couldn't handle it. That's why we didn't order dessert.

My daughter has moved to this neighborhood. We took a walk around the area and ended up here thanks to the delicious smells :). What a fantastic place. Very nice (large) restaurant with a lovely terrace. But then the food... SOOO good! Wonderful flavors, well prepared. We ordered a bit of everything (there are 5 of us) so we could share. Naan bread in various flavors (delicious), dipping sauces, Tandoori chicken, mixed grill, and the lentil balls in yogurt sauce... honestly, I (we all) enjoyed it so much. Great vibe, friendly service. Highly recommended! See you again soon.

Picked this place randomly for our last dinner in Amsterdam. We had a very positive experience! Nice spot outside in the shadow on a very hot day. The service was great and quick. The food was outstanding! One of our best experiences of Indian food. (Not sure what that actually means coming from two Swedes that never been to India though 😀)

The food was tasty and the service was quick. Furthermore, the staff was friendly, but not warm, as I am used to from restaurant staff. Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely. Would I return to Guru myself? No, I don't think so.

What a fantastic experience at this restaurant on Rijnstraat. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, and the atmosphere in the place was very pleasant. The food was truly delicious. The platter with grilled pieces of meat, colorful bell peppers, and red onion, in particular, was a true treat for the eyes and the palate. The refined presentation with the gold-colored table lamps also made the evening truly complete. We will certainly be back soon.

Best Indian food I've had. I had the mix grill, daal, with naan & rice - every bite was outstanding. They also gave me complimentary papadam with 3 tasty dips. This was one meal I did not want to end.

Extremely pathetic food. Ordered paneer curry and I felt that I am just eating curry of spices. It was crazy spicy. How can you make such insane spicy dish whereas in the menu it was not mentioned as spicy. And we had problem with our card and could not able to pay. We asked you to give us few minutes. And you are coming ad asking us again and again to pay as if we are running somewhere. You owner is coming outside to see our faces. Crazy or what. We came to your restaurent after seeing the review only and greatly disappointed. Probably will never come here again

Had a delicious meal, and after just five minutes I knew this was going to get dangerous. Not because of the food, but because I suddenly started having expectations of other restaurants. That is something you don't want. The staff were so friendly that at one point I thought they were mistaking me for someone important. The mayor. A famous Dutch person. Someone who actually works out. The food was amazing. The kind of dishes where after every bite you think: "Just one more." And fifteen minutes later, you're sitting there as if you were voluntarily blown up for scientific research. The atmosphere was relaxed. No one was being difficult. No complicated menus where you need a dictionary just to understand what you're ordering. Just good food and people who seem happy you're there. At one point I looked around and thought: this is exactly what a restaurant looks like when someone has simply decided to do everything right. In short: delicious food, friendly staff, and a top-notch evening!

Had an amazing experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic Indian flavors and fresh spices. The Seekh Kebab was honestly the best I’ve tried — perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of taste. The restaurant also has a great Indian atmosphere with beautiful vibes, friendly staff, and a warm welcoming feeling that makes you enjoy the whole experience even more. I ate Indian food for the first time. I am not familiar with the spices. But the food is beautifully presented, and the service is top-notch! I also found the restaurant to be truly beautiful and warmly decorated. Prices are on the high side, but that is not surprising given the location. Friendly people; I would recommend everyone come and eat here at least once. To finish, I had Pistachio Kulfi for dessert. I had a fantastic evening and tried some new dishes again. Thank you very much.

Perfect. Very tasty food, correct serving, attentive service. (Small) details make an impression - heated burners for hot dishes, optimal time break between dishes and, which I personally was very pleased with, the absence of loud music. My sincere recommendations.

Amazing food and service..too good

The service of the staff are excellent. They are friendly and hospitable which gives you a nice experience. I hope this will be maintained and improved more. As to the food, the serving size can be improved relative to the price and quality. It’s a bit pricey compared to the price and taste. The timeliness of serving the food can also be improved as we waited for more than 30 mins for a simple curry and buttered chicken dishes. Overall, it was still a good experience. I would give 3 stars for it.

What struck me was the rare combination of kindness, politeness, lovely food and nice decor. I had the tandoori fish which had a lovely flavor, was tender and served with a sauce on the side. Naan bread was also very nice, fluffy and well layered. We will definitely be back

My brother and I were eager for authentic Indian food. We quickly stumbled upon Guru. We arrived very early, so we were the first and only ones there. We were helped and seated immediately. The food was delicious. Highly recommended!

What was meant to be a lovely valentines meal was instead an unwelcome and excessively long meal. Staff were a bit rude and unwelcoming, they had poor attentiveness to tables. We were sat for 15 minutes with the menus and no one had been over to take an order. Once we ordered, food took a while to arrive, not once did staff approach the table. It felt like staff were avoiding our table. They were fantastic at seating us even though we missed our time slot due to unforeseen circumstances. However, I wouldn’t return again.

I went here with my friends and my girlfriend (who was trying Indian food for the first time), and we received a very warm welcome from the staff, who truly deserve 5 stars. The food itself is fine, but I've had better; I'd give it a 6.7. Service: 10 out of 10.

Very tasty, great service and atmosphere

This is truly one of the best Indian foods I ever tasted!!! And trust me , I tasted A LOT of Indian places from London to Vancouver , and from Barcelona to California. This is a 5 out of 5!

Excellent place, the food was cooked perfectly, everything was done in the traditional way, it was very pleasant. We had a lovely evening. The only downside: they really shouldn't overcharge us for a cheap, brand-new glass bottle of water costing almost €8. It's really wrong to trick people into choosing between "bottled water or a pitcher?" We assume the pitcher is tap water, which would have been fine for us too. We weren't expecting to be ripped off with "new" bottled glass water. Tap water in a reusable glass bottle, like everywhere else, would have been perfect. Thank you anyway for the lovely experience. Friendly people when we picked up our food. Unfortunately, the meals at home were disappointing. The dahl wasn't so much bad, but rather bland and not particularly tasty. The tikka masala, on the other hand, was a real disappointment (too spicy and lacking in flavor), so all in all, the almost 40 euros we paid was far too much. Such a shame!

Visited this family-run restaurant by chance, and the hospitality blew me away! From the warm welcome to the cozy ambiance, it feels like home. The complimentary papads with three chutneys were a great start, and the mixed veg pakoras were perfectly cooked. We had paneer tikka masala with garlic naan and were even offered green chili and onions upon request—so thoughtful! The food was excellent, but what really stands out is the warmth and care. Special thanks to Amrinder for making our visit memorable. Will definitely be back!

The stairs leading to the toilets are steep, but boy is the food worth it! Strongly recommend if you're looking for a high quality, broad variety of Indian dishes. The menu enables you to taste a little bit of everything - expensive, but interesting for the experience.

Guru restaurant is basic food quality with even basic quantity and prices on the higher end. Presentation was also ok and nothing spectacular. Taste wise nothing stood out for me. The samosas they served were the tinniest I ever had. Only positive I can speak of the decor. That was good. Even a Mona Lisa dressed in Indian attire.

The food is really good and well priced, the portions are adequate. Service was excellent. Really solid place for Indian food in Amsterdam.
