The food's amazing, the staff's great, and it tastes so good it feels like home. Their Samosa Chaat is the best ever!

The food was tasty and the service was quick. Furthermore, the staff was friendly, but not warm, as I am used to from restaurant staff. Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely. Would I return to Guru myself? No, I don't think so.

A very pleasant experience; the staff were welcoming and smiling. The menus are varied, delicious, and well-presented. The interior is a blend of simplicity and color, pleasing without being kitschy. I recommend it.

What a fantastic experience at this restaurant on Rijnstraat. Everything was taken care of down to the last detail, and the atmosphere in the place was very pleasant. The food was truly delicious. The platter with grilled pieces of meat, colorful bell peppers, and red onion, in particular, was a true treat for the eyes and the palate. The refined presentation with the gold-colored table lamps also made the evening truly complete. We will certainly be back soon.

Best Indian food I've had. I had the mix grill, daal, with naan & rice - every bite was outstanding. They also gave me complimentary papadam with 3 tasty dips. This was one meal I did not want to end.

Butter chicken was sickening sweet. Rice was fine. Naan was fine. Would not recommend.

Extremely pathetic food. Ordered paneer curry and I felt that I am just eating curry of spices. It was crazy spicy. How can you make such insane spicy dish whereas in the menu it was not mentioned as spicy. And we had problem with our card and could not able to pay. We asked you to give us few minutes. And you are coming ad asking us again and again to pay as if we are running somewhere. You owner is coming outside to see our faces. Crazy or what. We came to your restaurent after seeing the review only and greatly disappointed. Probably will never come here again

Had a delicious meal, and after just five minutes I knew this was going to get dangerous. Not because of the food, but because I suddenly started having expectations of other restaurants. That is something you don't want. The staff were so friendly that at one point I thought they were mistaking me for someone important. The mayor. A famous Dutch person. Someone who actually works out. The food was amazing. The kind of dishes where after every bite you think: "Just one more." And fifteen minutes later, you're sitting there as if you were voluntarily blown up for scientific research. The atmosphere was relaxed. No one was being difficult. No complicated menus where you need a dictionary just to understand what you're ordering. Just good food and people who seem happy you're there. At one point I looked around and thought: this is exactly what a restaurant looks like when someone has simply decided to do everything right. In short: delicious food, friendly staff, and a top-notch evening!

Had an amazing experience here! The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic Indian flavors and fresh spices. The Seekh Kebab was honestly the best I’ve tried — perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of taste. The restaurant also has a great Indian atmosphere with beautiful vibes, friendly staff, and a warm welcoming feeling that makes you enjoy the whole experience even more. Definitely a place worth visiting if you love real Indian food. Highly recommended!

I ate Indian food for the first time. I am not familiar with the spices. But the food is beautifully presented, and the service is top-notch! I also found the restaurant to be truly beautiful and warmly decorated. Prices are on the high side, but that is not surprising given the location. Friendly people; I would recommend everyone come and eat here at least once. To finish, I had Pistachio Kulfi for dessert. I had a fantastic evening and tried some new dishes again. Thank you very much.

We enjoyed a great meal at guru this evening! We ordered the dal makhani and butter chicken, each came with a side of naan and rice. Perfect amount to share between two. Friendly service and nice atmosphere.

The service of the staff are excellent. They are friendly and hospitable which gives you a nice experience. I hope this will be maintained and improved more. As to the food, the serving size can be improved relative to the price and quality. It’s a bit pricey compared to the price and taste. The timeliness of serving the food can also be improved as we waited for more than 30 mins for a simple curry and buttered chicken dishes. Overall, it was still a good experience. I would give 3 stars for it.

My brother and I were eager for authentic Indian food. We quickly stumbled upon Guru. We arrived very early, so we were the first and only ones there. We were helped and seated immediately. The food was delicious. Highly recommended!

What struck me was the rare combination of kindness, politeness, lovely food and nice decor. I had the tandoori fish which had a lovely flavor, was tender and served with a sauce on the side. Naan bread was also very nice, fluffy and well layered. We will definitely be back

What was meant to be a lovely valentines meal was instead an unwelcome and excessively long meal. Staff were a bit rude and unwelcoming, they had poor attentiveness to tables. We were sat for 15 minutes with the menus and no one had been over to take an order. Once we ordered, food took a while to arrive, not once did staff approach the table. It felt like staff were avoiding our table. They were fantastic at seating us even though we missed our time slot due to unforeseen circumstances. However, I wouldn’t return again.

I went here with my friends and my girlfriend (who was trying Indian food for the first time), and we received a very warm welcome from the staff, who truly deserve 5 stars. The food itself is fine, but I've had better; I'd give it a 6.7. Service: 10 out of 10.

Very tasty, great service and atmosphere

This is truly one of the best Indian foods I ever tasted!!! And trust me , I tasted A LOT of Indian places from London to Vancouver , and from Barcelona to California. This is a 5 out of 5!

Very good experience and the food was very good!

Excellent place, the food was cooked perfectly, everything was done in the traditional way, it was very pleasant. We had a lovely evening. The only downside: they really shouldn't overcharge us for a cheap, brand-new glass bottle of water costing almost €8. It's really wrong to trick people into choosing between "bottled water or a pitcher?" We assume the pitcher is tap water, which would have been fine for us too. We weren't expecting to be ripped off with "new" bottled glass water. Tap water in a reusable glass bottle, like everywhere else, would have been perfect. Thank you anyway for the lovely experience. Friendly people when we picked up our food. Unfortunately, the meals at home were disappointing. The dahl wasn't so much bad, but rather bland and not particularly tasty. The tikka masala, on the other hand, was a real disappointment (too spicy and lacking in flavor), so all in all, the almost 40 euros we paid was far too much. Such a shame!

Visited this family-run restaurant by chance, and the hospitality blew me away! From the warm welcome to the cozy ambiance, it feels like home. The complimentary papads with three chutneys were a great start, and the mixed veg pakoras were perfectly cooked. We had paneer tikka masala with garlic naan and were even offered green chili and onions upon request—so thoughtful! The food was excellent, but what really stands out is the warmth and care. Special thanks to Amrinder for making our visit memorable. Will definitely be back!

The stairs leading to the toilets are steep, but boy is the food worth it! Strongly recommend if you're looking for a high quality, broad variety of Indian dishes. The menu enables you to taste a little bit of everything - expensive, but interesting for the experience.

Guru restaurant is basic food quality with even basic quantity and prices on the higher end. Presentation was also ok and nothing spectacular. Taste wise nothing stood out for me. The samosas they served were the tinniest I ever had. Only positive I can speak of the decor. That was good. Even a Mona Lisa dressed in Indian attire.

The food is really good and well priced, the portions are adequate. Service was excellent. Really solid place for Indian food in Amsterdam.

In Amsterdam for work and fancied a curry. Tried this place. Easy access from the tram I’m so pleased I did try it. Lovely curry. Popadoms were delightful. Great Naan. I went for the bhuna. Which was perfectly spiced. A decent sized portion and just a lovely curry! Try it. They even charged my phone cos I was low on battery.

I grew up with this cuisine and even bring my family here. So you understand that we know what this cuisine should taste like, and it's absolutely perfect. This isn't your typical Maggie Holland-esque takeaway, like most Indian restaurants do; this is authentic cuisine. I've been here several times and still go. If that's not enough proof that it's good, you're better off going to the snack bar.

From the moment you walk in, you're warmly welcomed. We made a reservation because it was quite busy. Every single waiter and waitress who served us was extremely attentive and pleasant. At the beginning, everything was fine: the staff was very friendly, the atmosphere was pleasant, the coffee was delicious, and the appetizers before the main course were absolutely delicious. We ordered two main dishes and then asked for a different third dish, but they brought us the same dish we had already ordered. When we pointed this mistake out, they did not offer to bring the correct dish or fix the situation in any way. We told three waiters about this mistake, and none of them offered to correct their mistake. We also ordered khir to go. But it was impossible to eat because it was just pure sugar, so much sugar that it simply couldn't be eaten. In the end, we left €90 and were completely disappointed with this restaurant.

I literally love GURU !!! Ive been here at least 10 times and I will come plenty more times!! We have both helped each other out on many occasions.* *too expand on what i mean. I usually order 2 curry's becouse I have a big appetite and also because they always make me amazing food!! They have helped me when I have been in difficult situations. * This is from an English man who loves curry's and food in general, and ive had hundreds of thousands of curry's and this place really hits the spots!!! Great food but a bit mainstream Indian.

This place was in my "want to go" list for a long time. It's not exactly in the center, it's a 20 minutes walk from the Amstel station. But well worth it! I had Pani Puri as a light starter, 4 nicely presented pieces. Followed by Chicken Tikka Balti on recommendation of an Indian colleague. And I enjoyed it, I might come back here. I was seated on the terrace - what do you want when temperatures rise above 28°... It's not India yet but it adds to the experience!

Great food and great service !! My favorite Indian restaurant by far ! The raita was amazing ! And the staff is adorable too ; really caring, professional and friendly.

For me, 4.8 is overrated. It is good but not incredible. Ordered chicken biryani and it is very different to any chicken biryani’s I ever tried (even in India), not bad but not the real deal. Service extremely slow (3stars go for service, otherwise food would be 4), it took them 1 hour and 10 minutes to bring food to table from the moment we arrived, we were starving and it was not even that busy. I would go back if I was around neighborhood but definitely I won’t transport myself there to eat
