I came here with a group of five people on a Saturday evening, and the restaurant was about 3/4 full, which is a good sign. We received the menus and the waiter very helpful in describing the dishes and was overall quite cordial. We got our drinks (I ordered the mango lassi which was really good), and the starters that some of us had ordered. So far so good. We finished those starters, and then the wait begun. We sat really close to the kitchen, so we could see waiters passing by our table bringing food to other customers, thus increasing our own appetites. However, our main courses did not arrive. At some point, a person (who I presume was) the manager drew attention to his other waiters that our table is still empty. I believe he did it twice or so. So they seemed to be aware as well, but the food still was not there. In fact, they did not arrive for about 1.5 hours and we had to ask the waiters if our food was coming. I understand that we came during one of the busiest times of the week, but around us there were customers who came after us, but also left before we even got our food. In the end, we received our main courses, and the presentation was really nice and the wait made us hungrier, so you would think that the food became tastier. However, I have to admit, the food was only decent. I am by no means an expert on indian cuisine, but I've tried it many times in different places and I had better, more flavourful, and spicier indian dishes, for a lower price and a shorter wait time. One of us ordered the chicken madras, and it has two peppers according to the menu, but I could eat it despite having quite a low tolerance to spice. I could also get more meat per dish elsewhere. The naan was good, but that's not what I come for to an Indian restaurant. I have to be honest and say that I expected more from a restaurant with such high reviews.

Excellent, flavorful food with generous portions (The bread basket is huge). The atmosphere is spacious and comfortable and the service friendly and efficient. Prices were reasonable for the whole pleasant experience. We had delicious leftovers the next day. Highly recommend it.

Food - A place to enjoy authentic Indian food "Indian delicacy". Tastes great! Something really good! Yummy. Flavorful. Mouth-watering. Everything tastes good when you're hungry, and this place adds to it. No loud music. You can talk with friends and family while eating. Team- team is really supportive and friendly. Food service is also very fast. My table was being served by "Amrinder Singh." He personally takes care of your demand in terms of choice and recommends you the best dishes. It took 1 hour for the food to arrive. Then it finally arrived with whole parts of dishes missing. Then we ordered something that never arrived.

The food wasn't the very best I've ever had, but it was certainly fine. The atmosphere is a bit canteen-like, calm and brightly lit. I thought the price quality was very high and the toilet and stairs leading to it were really not clean.

Without a doubt this is the best and nicest restaurant I have been to this year. I expected that we would eat at a typical Italian restaurant, but nothing could be further from the truth. To our surprise it was a very nice restaurant with friendly staff. The food was truly Indian and tasted like I was on holiday in India again. The price was a little higher than normal, but let's be honest, that's always the case in Amsterdam. Parking was possible in front of the door, so nothing to complain about there either.

Best Indian in Amsterdam in my opinion. So tastey and just the right amount of spice. The service is great and they know the food very well. Been here 4/5 times over the past two years and it’s very consistent.

Wow, what an experience. We dined tonight after driving 6 hours with a tired baby, all the way from Germany. We were sat down and ordered our starters and drinks as our baby started to get restless. We were about to leave to save the other diners experience, but instead were moved to a different, more private section of the restaurant. Here we could enjoy our food while our baby was able to play on the floor. Absolutely incredible service and food! Thanks guys for everything. We’ll be back!

The taste is so good and the ambience is awesome

My first and I'm sure also the last time in an Indian restaurant!!! Experience to forget!! To start, we were offered some appetizers with a bread with an unspecified but truly unpleasant taste! Then we ordered the Pani puri....terrible texture and flavour! As main courses we ordered lamb tandoori, fish and another special chicken dish whose name I don't remember. The fish dish was inedible, the chicken dish was decent, only the lamb could be considered good. On the other hand, the waiters were very kind and attentive. The price is high for the quality of the food. We spent 33 euros each

We went to the Guru Restaurant for dinner on New Year's Eve and can highly praise the quality of the food and the service.

Mind blowing food .one must try butter chicken

Large, clean restaurant with very good service. As for the food, we knew it was an Indian but even by asking for non-spicy dishes we couldn't get it right. Everyone here was spicy and when I tell you so they maintain that they are not spicy. Ultimately, a matter of taste.

The only thing I don't understand is why there isn't a long line for this restaurant (on Sunday evenings). Because I regularly see hordes of people getting off buses to eat here. And I now finally understand why. Incredibly delicious food, very affordable and very friendly service. You rarely find something like this in Amsterdam. We will definitely come back here again!

Service made the difference. The vegetarian 'butter chicken' (with Indian cheese instead of chicken) was not necessarily the best choice from the wide variety of non-meat options I could've made but their service more than made up for that. They allowed me to drink my store-bought non-alcoholic beer as I didn't enjoy their available Heineken 0.0 option. Thank you, I will come back when I'm back in the city.

Excellent freshly cooked authentic Indian cuisine with very friendly people in a nice environment, clean and aesthetically pleasing. While personnel was friendly and efficient, service was slow, specially between the starters and the main the wait was simply a bit too much. But overall positive and recommendable experience.

My recent dinning experience at Guru Restaurant in Amsterdam was nothing short of delightful. The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, perfectly complimenting the delicious food. The highlight of the evening was a unique painting of Mona Lisa adorned in a Saree, which added a touch of cultural fusion to the decor. I had the pleasure of savouring golgappe, bhindi and roti each dish reflecting the authentic flavours of Indian cuisine. A special mention goes to the two Sardar veerji’s we met, whose friendly demeanour and Chardi kala spirit added an extra layer of joy to the evening. Will definitely love to visit again 🫰🏻❤️😊😊😊

Ja, het eten is goed en lekker. Maar wat een slechte akoestiek. Hadden bij de reservering gevraagd om een rustige plek en kregen de tafel in het midden van het restaurant. De zaak zat vol, vol met mensen die half schreeuwend probeerden zichzelf verstaanbaar te maken door boven de herrie uit komen. Wat een herrie. Meerdere malen excuses van het personeel, maar wat heb ik daaraan? Men weet het, lost het niet op. Een avondje uit helaas verpest door die herrie. Zonde, want het eten is zeker bovengemiddeld, maar hier zien ze mij en mijn vrienden niet terug.

The best thing about the restaurant is the behavior of the staff. They are cheerful. The food is delicious, to be honest. Like other Indian restaurants, there is more pepper. Very nice Indian food in cute neighborhood

Had a wonderful evening tonight! Most authentic Punjabi cuisine I’ve had in Europe!! We only had main course of paneer butter masala and mutton rogan Josh but everything was amazing! Garlic naan was cooked to perfection 3 times over! Slight hiccup with the order initially but staff and management were swift to sort it and made sure we had a lovely evening regardless. Would 1000% return next time in Amsterdam!!

Yesterday I went with my friends to this restaurant and we were amazed by the food! Not only the location and the tasty Indian food was great, but also the funny and lovely service. Well spent time there! Thank you very much 🫶🏽

The the way the owner was behaving with some of the people is very shameful. We were in a Group tour of about 40 stranger people of different age groups. And I know we should respect the rules set by the restaurant while dining, but when an elderly person picks up an extra napkin or glass from an empty table which was not supposed to be used by our group, the owner had no right to shout at them the way he did. And cursed at Indians being a nuisance as always. (PS. Who are you running an Indian restaurant in the middle of Europe and thinking of yourself as some Elite ). The elderly person was not related to me but seeing him get should on in such a way is not acceptable.

I visited this restaurant last week. Food is ok. However, the attitude of the owner and staff is horrible. Such rude behavior will not be acceptable. If they were doing business in the US or Canada they would no longer be able to work for a week. We pay for the food, not taking it for free. Think twice before you act as you carry the name of the great Guru who introduced the noble concept of Langar.

One of the best Indian restaurants I ever visited! Service and staff is amazing!! Expected the prices to be more expensive tbh, but the prices are just like any other Indian place here in Amsterdam - but those other places def don’t have the same service! One thing I noticed - the pita bread and rotis are “toasted” - that just does not work with the curry I think! Please leave the bread like it is 🙏 Will def come back!!

This wasn't worth the wait. Food took ages and we ended up cancelling dessert because of the same issue. I've had much better authentic Indian food than this.

The food at this restaurant was a major disappointment. The lamb biryani was utterly tasteless, the chicken curry overly sweet and lacking any real flavor, and the rice was so hard it felt like chewing on stones. For the prices they charge, both the quality and quantity of the dishes were far below expectations. My suggestion: prioritize the quality of the food over the atmosphere. I've dined at numerous Indian restaurants in Amsterdam and Germany, and this was by far the worst experience in terms of taste. The only redeeming factor here is the ambiance, but unfortunately, that doesn't make up for the poor food.

I live in italy and spent few days of my school vacation in Amsterdam. The guru restaurant offered authentic taste of indian food. I love spicy so they made lamb chop masala spicy as I requested. Amazing

Great night out with the family. The food was delicious and the staff very kind. It was a little loud inside for me personally but maybe that’s because of the weekend.

Food was delicious and the people were kind but we were not attended to. We got the two-person menu and we waited up to thirty minutes between dishes (and was also too much food since we finished digesting the starters by the time the main arrived). After waiting a while for both the main and the dessert we followed up with our server but waited an additional 10 minutes before our food arriving. Good food but very slow service despite sitting next to the door!

Had a very nice meal. Got a mixed veg (€21 approx) starter to share - all tasty, a lamb saag (€16 approx) which was delicious and served with a generous portion of tasty rice, and some good crisp roti bread. Wine was good quality and good value but beware bottled water which is very expensive. Service was friendly but a bit slow. Decor is pleasant. A good experience overall.

Afhalen is rampzalig en zelfs vreselijk! Kregen verkeerde bestelling mee. Helaas ook nog eens op een onbeschofte manier van beschuldigd dat het je eigen schuld is, omdat je bij afhalen aangeeft dat het wel goed zal zijn wat er gegeven wordt. Hier mag je toch vanuit gaan ipv hun werk te controleren? Uiteindelijk weer terug moeten gaan om juiste bestelling op te halen, maar geen enkele coulance/ verontschuldiging. Een foutje kan gebeuren, maar onbeschoft te woord worden gestaan en dat medewerker van dit restaurant enkel blijft discussiëren en blijft aangeven dat het je eigen schuld is is verbazingwekkend! ZEER VERBAZINGWEKKENDE EN TELEURGESTELDE SITUATIE! NOOIT MEER!
