Namche in De Weteringschans

Came here due to seeing Mooncake's review of it. I have to say.. it's just Indian food. Samosa were overcooked, pan fried dumplings in sesame sauce were nice, mixed grill was so/so. Restaurant is very narrow. Hard to pass by seeing the staff is often serving their tables. The 'popular movie classical' music was set too loud. And the acoustics of the place are not good.. hard to speak to your dinner guest. Gave it a shot, will not return.

We stumbled upon this excellent Nepalese restaurant while on a visit to Amsterdam. The staff was really responsive to allergy concerns which made us feel at ease. The food was excellent as were the cocktails.

Nice staff and food. Thank you for giving me a free cup of water and candies 😀 The food was great. I think the lighting near the bar table can be less blue cause it makes food look dull in pictures, but it's my personal preference, so I have no authority to force the change. Also, the music that was playing in the restaurant can be quieter.

Quiet spot at the end of a busy street. Good drinks selection. Try the fried Nepalese dumplings and pani puri.

Great little Nepalese restaurant. The dishes are delicious and cooked with fresh produce. The team is very friendly. They adapted the spice level to suit my tastes. The crème brûlée is delicious. A taste of the Himalayas!

Everything was truly delicious. Helpful staff, varied menu, and generous portions. A quaint little street, but just outside the hustle and bustle. We loved everything!

At first, we thought it tasted good. But my partner got sick from the butter chicken later that evening. We also thought it was a bit expensive for how much food you get as well.

Amazing Nepalese restaurant. Booked a reservations online and added a note that it was a dinner date with a request for a quiet setting. They were so helpful and help made the date go very well. All the people that work there was very kind. The food was exceptional. The service was amazing. And to top it off, they gave us a free dessert as a gift for the date. Will surely go back and recommend this place!

Lovely Nepalese restaurant with personable service (thank you, Santos!) and incredible dumplings. We had the fried and steamed momo that contained great flavor — leaving us full and happy.

Very nice place to go for dinner. The food is good and the waiters are nice. We tried the recommended dishes and they were really good. We had a table close to the door which was a bit cold at the end of the evening. It was no problem to close the door. The wine is good. I would recommend to make a reservation, because this place can be quite crowded. One small note, the music is a bit too loud. Although we really liked the type of music, a bit more silent would be better for the experience.

Gorgeous food with very helpful and kind staff. Staff are so good with kids, which was very much appreciated. Food was top class, momos were the star for me! Small playground right beside the restaurant which helped the kids with up an appetite.

Excellent! Looking for a place to celebrate our son’s birthday, he selected Namcha. I was suspicious. The location, in the heart of the city, usually screams tourist trap. The opposite was true! Instead, I found one of my new favorite Indian restaurants in Amsterdam. The place is cozy and very busy. The staff is very friendly and happy to help you decide on what to eat. After some consideration we finally decided what to eat. The food arrived and wow, it was delicious. The food isn’t cheap but then again, you’re in Amsterdam. I know I’ll be back for sure.

Food was fine, but not worth the price. The service was not good and the bartender was quite rude. I'm not sure what his problem was, but he was obviously very annoyed that we didn't have a reservation. Maybe you should take the sign down in the window that welcomes walk-ins if it is a problem for you.

A decent restaurant in heart of Amsterdam. We didn't really like the food especially Momos and pani puri. Maybe this is because of our indian taste buds which have different sense of taste altogether when it comes to Momos. The staff was friendly and they have decent seating indoors and limited outdoors..

Stop your search, this is THE BEST restaurant in Amsterdam 😍 After moving to Amsterdam, we tried quite few restaurants in the city, and all of them left us either unimpressed or just straight disappointed. Just when we were about to give up, we stumbled upon a cute Nepalese restaurant tucked away from all the buzz of the Leidseplein Square. We came inside and had the best experience! The ambiance was so cozy and romantic! Our server Santosh was AMAZING! He went above and beyond to make sure our food comes out just the way we will enjoy it! He was also very attentive and mindful of my husband’s dietary restrictions. But the best of all was their FOOD. Oh my goodnesss… The chana masala was bursting with deep complex flavors! The steamed momos with chicken were absolutely delicious. And their garlic naan and papadum were just perfect. When they bring you a check, they make sure to include a yummy chocolate praline or a mint, which was such a nice touch! These small things just show you how much they care about their customers. We will be back and we will recommend all of our friends to check this place out!

Some of the best Indian food I've had in a long time! Santos was a friendly server who seated our group of 5 right away, despite not having a reservation. The bartender was also attentive towards us and asked if we liked our cocktails or if we wanted them to be modified (which we didn't, because they were delicious!). I ordered sambosas and pan fried dumplings for a starter. Most other places, these dishes are greasy, but that is not the case here! They were flavorful and it's a must to soak up the sauce with a side of naan. I also ordered the chicken tikka masala which, again, full of flavor and spice that was to die for! 10/10 I would recommend to anyone looking for a delicious, filling meal.

While visiting amsterdam I visited Namchey Amsterdam every time I craved for Nepali Indian food. Not only they have authentic Nepali Indian taste of the food, the staff do also have Nepali authentic hospitality.

We had reserved a table online. The sauces for our three appetizers and the main courses were heavily spiced with cumin. The chef hadn't removed the cardamom, so I had several cardamom seeds in my rice dish. The service was friendly, but they asked if the table could be cleared shortly after you'd finished your last bite. Overall, the food was more like a snack bar, and the portions were rather small.

What a discovery on Lange Leidsedwarsstraat! I was immediately impressed by the authentic Nepalese and North Indian cuisine at Namche Amsterdam. The momos as a starter were particularly refined – deliciously filled and served with a spicy sauce that was just right.

We were in Amsterdam for 3 days, and we had dinner at this place for two days , that's how much we loved it. Had the momos in sesame sauce, chowmien, pani puri. Everything was top notch. definitely recommended to visit

We had a great time! The service was excellent and the food was delicious. However, the Indian dish could have used a bit more spice to bring out the authentic flavor.

We had a wonderful evening at Namche and a truly delicious meal. There were four of us, and we had a wide variety of dishes. Everything was fresh and flavorful, as was the specialty Nepalese IPA beer. All the staff were incredibly hospitable and stopped by to ask if everything was to our liking. We'll definitely be back to Namche because we had a wonderful time! What a wonderful discovery.

This was my first time eating at an Indian/Nepalese restaurant, and I was delighted with the taste and quality of the food. To start off, we had the pani puri, which was classic and a good appetizer. Then, we tried their steamed buffalo momos, which looked a lot like Chinese xiaolongbaos. The meat filling was tender and soft and the dough was chewy, pairing super well with the sauces! As for mains, the tandoori shrimp was amazing and extremely flavourful. The amount of shrimp was also plenty for 3 people. I really enjoyed the taste of the chicken tikka masala as well; it was a little spicy and tangy, and the chicken was tender. Finally, it was a good decision to add garlic butter naan as a side, as it went very well with the curries. Bonus points to the lentil curry that they paired with the tikka masala, it was one of my favourites. My only complaint would be that I wish the mango lassi was colder, as it would’ve made it easier to drink since it was very thick. Otherwise, I had a wonderful meal here and I loved the experience of trying new dishes.

Wow just wow! Read reviews before booking a table. We were not disappointed. The food was amazing. Service with a smile and very good value. You must visit if you get the opportunity. Loved it.

Chicken tikka is chicken thigh, not chicken fillet. Not very spicy. Naan bread top quality. Unfortunately all three got sick after eating. Diarrhea and stomach ache.

I was craving for dal baht and decided to give Namche a try. And it did not disappoint! Authentic flavors which transported me back to Nepal. Will definitely come back again.

The best dal tadka and naan I’ve ever tasted

5 stars for the food and drinks, authentic and tasty. However took way too long to arrive to the table. Further we asked for the rest of our food as takeaway, we received it and half of our leftovers is missing. A pity, makes you think twice before returning.

After I didn't understand the employee he started with a sign. Throwing it at my head I immediately filed a report

The food was really good. The puffed rice was a new and very strange experience for me, but it was very tasty. The sauce was a bit lacking, but upon request, they immediately provided a refill at no extra charge.

This is a great restaurant, and I love the dumplings here.. the only problem is you always have to wait here for almost 25 min after ordering the food. But trust me, the food is really good.👍

This is a lovely little restaurant in the heart of Canal District in a quiet back street, close but away enough from the hub-bub of the tourist watering holes to have a delicious dinner in a quiet atmosphere listening to birds in the little parkette next to the restaurant. Food was FAN-TASTIC and service very attentive. Highly recommend.

My partner & I came here for dinner last night & shared the steamed Momo (veg) with tomato sauce & the Veggie Dal Bhat - both were absolutely delicious! It was truly one of the best & most memorable meals I've ever had. The service was lovely & our server was very friendly & attentive. We also both really enjoyed their Nepal Pale Ale & had a couple each since they were so tasty & refreshing. We cannot wait to come back & enjoy another meal here. We'll be telling all of our friends back home (Chicago) to make sure they try Namche when they visit the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Cheers!

Loved everything about this restaurant! Just about managed to get in at the bar and I'm not surprised. The food was delicious, the staff were lovely and a perfect cocktail. Steamed momos were the star of the show for me and chow mein best we've had.

Probably the best meal of my life! Very good service and the taste is simply amazing. The momos in particular are highly recommended. A reservation is definitely a must, the restaurant fills up quickly.

Proper freshly cooked food, tasty and spicy but not just with chilli heat, more flavoursome. Fantastic cocktails and beers (NPA is my favourite), great friendly service and a BIG thank to Altin who guided us through the menu for a wonderful meal. We will be back 🙏🏼

Great food and nice seating outside. CN really recommend. But they don’t provide tap water - you will have to pay extra for water that is clearly tap but what they sell as a product. So that is pure scam.

One of the best meals we had in Amsterdam. It was so delicious and our server was very kind. The atmosphere was a bit quiet but felt comfortable and communal. We would come back to Amsterdam just for another dinner here!

The momo was a real treat, served in a rich and flavourful sauce. The Chicken Tikka Masala was outstanding as well. The chicken was tender and well-marinated, all enveloped in a creamy sauce. Portions were a bit small but really tasty!

This is the second time I have returned to this restaurant in the space of a year. And the food is still delicious. The staff is very accommodating. I ate the chicken tikka massala with a mango lassi and a nam cheese. I enjoyed myself. I highly recommend it.

Updated review: I do not mean to compare this place to Dishoom in terms of cuisine as I know they are very different. I apologize for that! My intention was to compare them in terms of portion size and overall experience eating foods of the region. I am very familiar with Nepalese food as I have eaten it often and have local favorites. Where I live is lucky to have one of the largest concentrations of Nepali-American in US metro areas. I typically pay about $17-20 USD (15-18 Euro) for similar or the exact same dishes here in the US. It is not the portion size that bothers me as it is the typical portion size for this cuisine. It is the price to portion size. I personally just don't feel like I received a good value for what I paid. Previous review: It was ok, very middle of the road in my opinion. But the price for portion size is WILD. €25 for 4 pieces of chicken!? If you've ever been to Dishoom, it's similar portion sizes to them except it's almost double the price and not even half as good. The momos were alright. The butter chicken was good but overall not worth it.

Visiting from Australia, I was thrilled to find such authentic Nepalese flavours in Amsterdam. The Veg Fried Momos, Chicken Momos, and Chowmein were all incredibly tasty and well-prepared. Friendly service and delicious food—highly recommended!

I return here after a year or so, and had Pani Puri to start with. I know this from visits to another Indian restaurant with my previous boss. Very nice starter! As main course and on suggestion of 2 (Indian) colleagues I had the Biryani Chicken. Very good, a lot for one person but not quantity over quality - this was very, very good and quite spicy (I can handle that). But no Mango Lassi required here to put out the fire. Second time here, but not last time!

Had a great meal at the Namache restaurant. The menu is varied with lots of interesting choices. All our food was very tasty and well cooked. The staff were friendly and attentive. Would love to eat here again.

Awsome experience. The Jhol momo and Chiya tea is the unique combination to start with. Gulab jamoons are perfect in flavor to remind a bengali sweet dish Pantua (ladycany). Beautiful ambiance and service is very humble and friendly.

Sadly I didn’t try the food , I went in the evening for a drink and the DJ was very good , fantastic music selection. 🫶

It is a nice place with a really good staff but being honest the food was too plain. We ask for Tika masala chicken and birjani and it lacks in flavours. When we go to an Indian you spect a really nice smell of the spices and then to be all around in your food but here they wheren't even there. I'm so sorry because the staff and the Attention were amazing but I would not recommend this place.
