The sundubu-jjigae is great, very well seasoned! The jajangmyeon is also good, does not contain meat, so perfect if you are a vegetarian.

Korean cuisine is gaining popularity. The result: you come across bad all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurants everywhere. Why eat bad Korean food when you can have a much more authentic experience? Hwawon has been a household name for Korean food lovers in the Netherlands for over 20 years. Authentic taste with a good price/quality ratio. Ten times better than the 'hip' wannabe Koreans in the center of Amsterdam.

Worst soft tofu stew, worst black bean noodles, rude owner.

A simple homely setup near Amsterdam Zuid selling Korean staple dishes. We tried the fried chicken starter and shared 1 order of the Yukkyejang. Korean stews need rice on the side. It was Korean spicy and delicious. Ah sooooo good and this was a cold spring night - so even better. Loved the flavours and will be back for more! 감사합니다 Thank you :)

Excellent Korea, both in atmosphere and cuisine. Bibimbab is top-notch and properly served in a hot stone bowl - caught Seoul flashbacks.

★ do make a RESERVATION before you go! Otherwise it's quite busy that you might not get a table. If you're in a hurry, go for bulkoki and dolsot-bibimbab, they're both traditional & the best dishes of Korea. *Tip* Hwawon is well known for their Samgyupsal (port belly) among Koreans, you can have them Korean-BBQ-way at your table or cooked at kitchen.

Fantastic dishes with authentic taste

One of my Korean friends like this restaurant a lot and brought me there. We had Bossam and it was really tasty. People are friendly there. Plenty of parking space outside too. Price is fair.

Prima eten maar geen leuke rommelige entourage met slechte ventilatie, zeker gezien de Korean bbq en geen goede bediening die fout op fout stapelden: - erg leeg glas sauvignon blanc wat na opmerking werd bijgevuld op niveau, was ook niet lekker - de drie drankjes die we hadden in drie keer apart leveren - verkeerd voorgerecht gekregen, moest omgewisseld Al met al niet de moeite waard voor dat geld. Volgende keer gewoon weer naar de Thai want lekkerder (maar smaken verschillen) en goedkoper.

wanted to try out hwa won for quite some time already, and the day had finally arrived! it’s just as you expect it to be, the vibe, the people, the food. it makes you feel like you’re in korea. we had such a good comforting meal for a reasonable price if you’re with multiple people instead of 2. you get to try multiple dishes. everything was delicious. i have had eaten quite some korean food these years and it just fits in my ‘comfort food’ list. i think i got taken off by the ox tail soup that we ordered, it was suuuper flavorful and warm! needless to say: i would like to come back again, if it’s possible, i would order the meat on the grill - which we didn’t see on the menu. do you have to ask for it specifically?

Lekker gegeten. Authentiek Koreaans. We bestelden BBQ gerechten maar die kwamen al klaargemaakt we mochten dus niet zelf barbecuen. Alles was lekker alleen de noedels met zwarte bonen flauw en smaakloos. Personeel is vriendelijk en het is erg goedkoop voor wat je krijgt.

Het eten was lekker! Ik had het ietsje pittiger verwacht maar misschien was mijn verwachting niet goed. Wij hadden graag aan tafel gebarbecued maar dat hadden we misschien bij reserveren moeten doorgeven. Ook daarvoor was dit de eerste keer ;) Ik wil dit zeker nog eens proberen!

Authentic and flavorful Korean cuisine in a cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend the kimchi chigae, kalbi, and jja jang mian. Friendly and helpful staff make for a great dining experience. Perfect for a casual night out with friends or family!

Well it was quite good, but way too expensive. 16 euro's for a little bit of fried chicken. Verdict: not worth it. Better save your money for an airplane ticket to south-korea. My advice would be to stay away from this hype.

Mijn favoriete restaurant in Amsterdam!!! Het eten is geweldig en heerlijk authentiek Koreaans. De bediening is altijd hartelijk. Het voelt als thuiskomen.

We ordered Kimchi Chige, stir fried octopus, kimchi pancake, pork belly bbq and rice. Those are perfect portion for three of us. We asked the waitress to cooked us the pork belly which is really good and doesn’t make smell all over the place. The food was good but it’s a little bit overpriced. One of the lady staffs was really helpful and keep smiling throughout the service. She helped help explaining/recommending the dish to us.

Omdat mijn vrouw veel zuid Koreaanse series aan t kijken is, wilden we ook eens zuid Koreaans eten. Er was zonder reservering nog net plek. Het was heerlijk maar veel te veel. We kregen het gelukkig mee in een “doggybag” en kunnen er nog ruim nog een keer van eten. Ook zeer vriendelijke bediening.

Wilt u echt Zuid-Koreaans eten en daarbij meteen ook de sfeer meekrijgen uit dit land, dan is dit het restaurant om naar toe te gaan. Moeder staat in de keuken, en vader regelt de inkoop en de bediening. Aan te bevelen is wel om een tafel te reserveren dit in verband met de inkoop. Het eten wordt direct klaargemaakt en bestaat dus uit verse waar. Het kan dus zijn dat het lijkt of er voldoende tafels zijn, maar als de keuken door zijn voorraad heen is, dan houd het eenvoudig op. Kwaliteit staat bij dit restaurant op de eerste plaats. Veel eetplezier.
