Great restaurant, friendly service, and good food. Reasonable prices.

The food was tasteless and overpriced for the quality. Other people's pizzas were undercooked, and the mushrooms were raw.

Unfriendly staff, very mediocre food for its price. The view is better from the pizza places across even if they have worse pizza, at least you'd pay for the view.

I usually don’t do google reviews only rarely, but I had to since it was so bad, when we asked for the check they came with the payment machine and just charged us an amount of money which I for sure paid but then I asked for the check after I paid and then he brought it with 5€ less than the amount I paid, he puts it on the table and says the 5€ difference is a tip, I didn’t say a word cuz I was shocked I didn’t understand what he was saying at first cuz he said that even before I checked the bill, he said that and he walked away and 5 minutes after he came and put 5€ on the table and leaves. Always check your bill and I’m never going there again.

Terrible! Two people ate. The first person received spaghetti after a long wait, and the pizza they also ordered arrived 20 minutes later after asking! No apologies!

A nice restaurant by the river. We got a seat on the terrace and admired the river traffic and the geese show. The service was excellent and the food delicious.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful service, food, and location. They were able to accommodate our table of 10 right on the water, during a busy time, with no hesitation or complaint. Was probably the best meal I had during my 2 week tour through Europe.

We wanted to have a nice bite to eat and a drink. Until our big friend with his protruding, dirty chest hair (Nino) served us and threw the menu on the table. Then he went to a table with girls and was very sweet, politely handing them the menu. Gross. This was very unprofessional in my opinion. Definitely not recommended, and we left immediately after one drink. Grote Balle tent not recommended!!!!!!

Extremely rude waiter. Threw the cutlery on our table and took away my drink before I finished drinking without even asking me. Extremely unpolite and just straight on arrogant. It's not like we did anything to him, as he was rude the second we sat down on the table. If I pay the price I paid for lunch and a drink (and the place surely is overprized) then I expect at least a decent service where I'm treated politely. Nice place, good Italian food and has a dark vibe

The food was good but the service not that great.

We wanted to eat with three people, and this seemed like a nice spot. We then sat down at a table for four. Someone then came over and asked if we wanted to move because it was a table for six. We then went to sit somewhere else and were again told it was a table for eight (it was actually a table with four chairs). We were asked to move to a new table. Then we saw two people sitting at the same table as us.

I always enjoy coming here. It's in a fantastic location by the water, with a heated terrace, making it a relaxing place even in spring and autumn. The food is good, and you can share a pizza. There's a good wine selection.

The atmosphere is really nice with the canal and everything but food is the exact opposite. It’s basically a tourist scam. Pasta, pizza, lasagne… all bad. And one particular waiter was not really nice. I wouldn’t advise it to eat there

The only positive thing about this restaurant is its location. The pizzas are so plain and tasteless, very disappointing. The staff also doesn't care if you enjoyed your meal.

Dining at a beautiful location after a day in Utrecht… At least, that's what we thought. There was a table free by the water, but it was for four. We were moved three tables away. Well, pointed at, slightly forced, that didn't feel right. Just as we were about to leave, the waiter came to ask what we wanted to eat, but we ordered anyway, since we were still a bit early. Then a couple arrived, who naturally also wanted to sit by the water, and the table for four by the water was taken apart. I complained, probably a reservation, the waiter said… yeah, yeah, good excuse, sir! Our food arrived and my husband got what he ordered, but I got salmon, which I hadn't ordered. Oh well, it happens. Five minutes later, my dish arrived, also full of pride, you know… I had penne with tenderloin pieces, this one clearly didn't. A moment of frustration because my husband's food was almost finished. Shortly after, the dish arrived just as I had ordered. And honestly, it was absolutely delicious! But the whole thing, the way the staff acted? It was also strange that the staff were criticizing each other. He hasn't been working here long, as an example. "Yes, sir, you wrote down what we wanted to eat and then you say your colleague doesn't understand?" It was like being lured into vacation and having to accept it all. Horrible. Normally, I would never look at a menu to see what the food would cost, but I did anyway. A quick calculation showed it shouldn't cost more than 48 euros. It was 45 and a bit. We paid that, no tip. We were relieved to be able to leave. What a fiasco. I think there were people there yesterday who had a wonderful time, we certainly didn't. The waiter didn't even look us in the eye when we left; he was back to pushing people into their seats.

Amazing spot by the canal, super close to the water, beautiful for food and drink. The cocktails are not good unfortunately, we didn’t have much food but what we had wasn’t great. Seemed like a bit of a tourist trap

Food was great, specially salami pizza, But the service was a bit weak. A few times when I wanted to order, no one paid attention to me and I felt a bit uncomfortable. Overall, though, the atmosphere and the food were really great.

These were the most delicious noodles I've ever eaten. I definitely recommend them! The service is also extremely friendly, and the location right on the canal is a dream! Unfortunately, our food didn't arrive at the same time, but that's something we can overlook.

Good food, generous portions, and a great location. This location leads to a correspondingly high customer traffic (often very crowded), and therefore a long wait. The prices are on the higher end, but still reasonable.

We chose this restaurant for its beautiful canalside location and Italian food. When we chose a table, there were menus and a dirty set of cutlery on the table, but luckily we were able to order our drinks and some bread for the table from the waiter, who was wearing a glitter shirt. (The cutlery wasn't brought back, by the way.) When our drinks and bread were served, we wanted to order our food, but we didn't get the chance. After that, we had to wait a long time before we could finally order, even after briefly contacting the waiter in a glitter shirt. After ordering, we received our food fairly quickly. However, we only received two sets of cutlery, while we needed three. (They apparently thought we were going to use the dirty cutlery.) After the waiter had left, I realized I hadn't received the correct dish, but I accepted it because I had already eaten some of my food and thought it might be a mistake in the order. The portions of the meat and fish dishes were also too small for the price. Who do they think they are, a Michelin-star restaurant or something? Furthermore, the waiter in a glitter shirt didn't come to our table during the meal. After we had finished eating, it took a very long time before we could finally pay. Finally, after we had paid, it turned out that the correct dish had been ordered but not served. So it was a stupid mistake by the kitchen. We won't be making this mistake again.

We waited a long time... the food was great!!... unfortunately, we weren't treated very kindly... the employee we had was very unkempt and therefore not very friendly, which came out of nowhere! He asked for our ID for alcohol, even though someone else wanted it. Okay, one of us wasn't 18. So we politely indicated we wanted to order something else, but before we could finish talking, the man walked away. After waiting 5 minutes, he signaled us to order our drinks and food. The food was great! When we wanted to pay, we had to signal a lot, and we had to wait almost 30 minutes! He was an old man, so we could easily see through our fingers, but we still felt it was taking a long time for the 10 or so tables he had to serve...

Quality pizza, however, we paid €4.50 more than expected, without warning. Unacceptable.

The Italian restaurant is beautifully located right down by the Oudegracht canal. There are plenty of tables, which are also relatively close together, but since we didn't eat until around 8 p.m., it was already a bit emptier. The service was incredibly friendly; I've rarely experienced such friendly and welcoming service. The food was also very tasty, although the Bolognese lacked tomato for our taste, but that's a matter of taste. The prices are certainly a bit higher, but they're significantly better than the other restaurants along the canal!

The food is deep-freeze quality, sadly. It's a good place to sit and enjoy the canal though. Tourist trap, which doesn't come as a surprise. I recommend just getting drinks.

Extremely unfriendly service. The man with long, curly black hair seemed rather uninterested. We weren't allowed to order drinks after 5:15 unless we ordered food at the same time.

The location is great, on the old canal. However, the service is really bad and rude. The food is terrible. I ordered three pizzas, and none of them seemed to be made properly. It's also a very expensive place for just a small pizza. There are cheaper and better options in Utrecht.

Il Pozzo is a beautiful location with delicious food. The dishes were of good quality, and the ambiance contributes to a pleasant dining experience. However, the service was disappointing; it was slow, and the checkout process took an unnecessarily long time, which made the visit somewhat less smooth. I also want to mention an important point: there are many seagulls around the restaurant because a restaurant across the street throws large amounts of bread into the water. This results in guests being surrounded by seagulls while dining, and several people have been hit by bird droppings. While this is not Il Pozzo's responsibility, it is something future visitors should be aware of. Despite these issues, it is an overall pleasant place to dine.

The old man who served us was extremely rude. He got angry just as we were looking for a place to sit. After that, the service was zero, and the man kept getting angry at us. It made for an unpleasant atmosphere, but it's a nice place to sit, but definitely not recommended. The food, however, was fine.

Last night I went here for dinner with two friends. We were taken all the way to the end of the terrace and had to sit against the wall. Then the waiter, who looked a bit disheveled, came and put our bags on a chair, which we thought was very kind, but nothing could be further from the truth. When I pointed to what I wanted on the menu, he angrily told me to say what I wanted and not point because he didn't know what was on there. I was quite taken aback. After ordering, we saw that a slightly larger table was free behind us and asked if we could sit there, to which the waiter replied, "No, it's reserved." (Which turned out not to be the case, but he refused to move us.) Then we received our wine in a glass with lipstick on it, to which the waiter replied, "No, that's not lipstick, but you'll get a new one." The food arrived very quickly; it was fine, but nothing special. I also heard what he was doing to other tables, which I found quite strange. Then the bill arrived, and the waiter asked, "What are we going to make?" We looked at each other and thought, "You're not asking for a tip, are you?" So we told them the bill. The waiter clearly didn't like this because he threw the receipt on the table and didn't say anything else. He also angrily told us we had to take a detour outside. I wouldn't eat here; the rating speaks for itself.

The old man who served us was incredibly grumpy, never experienced anything like it. He threw the menus on the table, threw cutlery in a pile, and got angry because not everyone ordered a pizza (several of us shared a pizza due to our small appetites). Recommendation: don't go.

I'm surprised by how many bad reviews there are. I had pasta linguine burrata e tartufo and it was delicious.

Bad service. We waited for min 10 mins and no one came to ask our order. We asked the man who was coordinating the staff, and still no one came. Then we just left. It was a shame.

We contacted the restaurant 5 months ago to enjoy a 3-course dinner on date X. Contact went smoothly and Il Pozzo was also able to meet all the requirements. A quiet, separate room/place in the corner where we could give several speeches during our dinner. The menu and the price were determined in advance, so the day itself went smoothly. In addition, the food was also very good. A very pleasant experience with delicious food!

Food is low quality, which is not nice after paying 20€ for a pizza. You are just paying for the location, but any other restaurant by the canal is better than this. The worst part is the service, the waiters are plain rude from the moment you step in. This place just survives with tourists, there is absolutely no local that comes here twice, which is a disgrace for a restaurant with a great location like this one. If you want real Italian food go to O’Panuozzo, vegitalian or any other where they will serve you good food and great service, or check another restaurant by Oudegracht, you will be better off anywhere else!

Food is a mere 6 euros. Pizza mozzarella is a pizza with grated cheese and a thick layer of dry, cheap mozzarella cheese in the middle. The pizza crust is dry and tasteless. Combined with the price (20 euros), it's very mediocre. Drinks are also very expensive!

Great location on the water, and yes, that's what you pay for. But €18 for a gorgonzola pizza—the crust is nice and crunchy, there's very little gorgonzola on the pizza, and the rest is cheese—is overpriced and lacks flavor. Bruschetta mixta was fine.

They charged us 4€ for a glass of tap water.

The location is beautiful, right on the canal. The waiters aren't very friendly. They ask you: food or just drinks? If it's the latter, you can go... The food is mediocre. When paying, they even ask for a tip, in a demanding way. They can (still) do it because the place is always packed. But pride is the downfall. Never again for me.

I ordered a vegetarian sandwich, and it had tuna on it. No apology was offered, nothing, just a slight act of being difficult. Furthermore, the service was generally rude and not customer-friendly at all. The food was, at best, okay.

Very nice location. You sit right on the canal. The tables are quite close together, but that's not a problem. It was quite busy, but you can usually get a seat quickly. Drinks and food came out fairly quickly. The pasta dishes had a bit too much Parmesan cheese on them (especially the lasagna). The pizza was truly delicious.

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. While the location is lovely—right by the canal—the positives stop there. The food was well below expectations: poorly prepared and lacking flavor. To make matters worse, the service was shockingly bad. The older waiter was extremely rude and even aggressive, which made the entire visit uncomfortable. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant Italian meal or a welcoming atmosphere.

Beautiful location on the canal. I asked for an Italian roll with Parma ham, without tomato and pesto. But the old man who served us wasn't friendly and told me not to make a fuss and to order "normal." So I got tomatoes and pesto on my sandwich, even though I'm allergic to tomatoes. Furthermore, the man who served us had really bad teeth. Very unappetizing. My last time here.

Although the food was decent, the service was one of the worst I’ve experienced in the Netherlands (as a Dutch person myself). We had to wait for 30 minutes to order, waiter saw us but ignored us throughout. Refused to serve us tap water when they are legally obliged to in the Netherlands. Out of the 3 dishes we ordered, the first came about 15 minutes before the other two came out, so one of us was already finished eating when the others started. - As some of the other reviews say: you pay for the location, the restaurant itself is not worth the money

We had a delicious meal: a salad, pasta, and two pizzas, and everything was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is enormous, and we received excellent and fast service. They run like a well-oiled machine, and the staff is very friendly, so I'd happily come back again.

The restaurant is located at the heart of Utrecht. It's definitely fun to sit by the canal. The food was mediocre, yet overly priced. The service was pathetic. They forgot to provide us cutlery, despite requesting. Given that there are a lot of other options with similar seating, this would be a hard pass for me.

The isn't good and apparently they served us tap water and billed us a bottle water!

Truly 5 stars all around for the super friendly staff. Delicious food! And (especially in nice weather, of course) a beautiful view. I don't come here very often because I don't live close by, but I always have to eat here when I'm in Utrecht!

We wanted to have dinner. When we arrived we were already badly received. Of course it is a busy place, but you still expect a bit of customer friendliness. We were sent from place to place to sit. We were finally seated and the food was really delicious. But then when we indicated that we wanted to pay, it took a very long time before we could finally do so. Bad communication again, which meant that we were sent from waiter to waiter. Final score: had to wait more than fifteen minutes before we were finally allowed to pay. And we were still treated unfriendly. Addition: After calculating costs for a tikkie, we also discovered that we paid a lot too much. Very unfortunate..

Natuurlijk zit je hier leuk aan het water, maar het eten is niet best. Brusschetta gemaakt van kale, dunne stokbrood slices (die in de supermarkt in een zak zitten, ken je ze?). Serious? Smakeloos hoofdgerecht. Pizza niet aangedurft nadat ik ze langs zag komen. Geen echte Italiaan, dat kan gewoon niet.

We asked for the bill, the waiter charged 85e while the bill was 79e, without asking or giving us the reason. When I asked he said the rest is my tip! He practically forced a 6euro tip without even want to explain why. Avoid…

We went in busy hour me and my friend .A man there ask really rude in rush how many person and when we said 3 he said really rudely and kinda shouting that they have no place for us. We ask him to speak normal and relax because that was a way to speak to clients we just turn and leave . We understand summer and dinner time is busy but people you must work on your behavior to clients that didn’t do anything bad to you. Sorry but we don’t gonna visit the restaurant again and I don’t recommend it

Nog niet tot aan de tafel geraakt om te eten. We hebben lang moeten wachten omdat er zo gezegd met 3 waren. Terwijl anderen gewoon voor ons een plaats krijgen. Dus geen aanrader!

Had a delicious pizza at a nice location on the old canal

We came for a drink, but were then told that that was not the intention, they really wanted us to come and eat and immediately pushed the voucher under our noses.

It started out as a nice sunny day and we thought let’s sit by the canal, first of all we had to wave to the waiter 5 times before he came. Second he told us we couldn’t sit there if we didn’t order main course even though the restaurant wasn’t full??? Third we paid our bill after ordering the last aperol spritz however they brought 2 so we obviously sent the extra one back. After that we asked the waiter if we paid for the extra one as well and he told us no, but keep in mind he never showed us the bill!!! After coming home we decided take a look on their menu, because it felt like we paid too much. Turns out we were right?!?😡😡 This waiter lied to our face and apparently put one extra Aperol on the bill as well???? I don’t recommend this place AT ALL! DONT GET SCAMMED!!

The food was really good and nicely presented. Unfortunately, the service was very unpleasant. We barely had time to look at the menu; the waiter was standing right next to us with a toothpick in his mouth. He was rude when we ordered, and the plate was taken away while we were still eating. When we paid, he immediately asked how much we wanted to tip. When we didn't leave one after this service, he asked again and didn't even say goodbye. Very unpleasant.

Food was decent. Settings beautiful. Service. What service. Classic rude waiter (must have been the owner). No tap water. The food came quickly but was slammed on the table. Demanded a tip over and over. Didn’t get one. Many other places to spend your money !

Never had such a bad experience. Old man was constantly grumbling at us, got angry about everything and got angry because "the small amount of 20.70" could also be paid in cash, after we indicated that we wanted to pay by card. The pizza was horrendous and the pasta tasted like a child tried to cook it. The service was bad and the guy didn’t seem to care whether we order our food or not even though the kitchen was closing in an hour. On top of this they charged us for the tap water.. we asked for a bottle of still and they gave us a sparking water bottle that didn’t have a seal and had clearly been used several times.. will be reporting to my credit card company for fraud
