For some exquisite authentic Italian food, this is the place to be. I visited the restaurant last night with my extended family and let be tell you, we had a wonderful experience. My wife, who doesn't drink, became a wine drinker. A huge thank you to Alex and staff.

The food was good, and the service was friendly, but unfortunately, the ordering and clearing process was a complete mess. Instead, chatting with colleagues seemed to be more important 🧐. Anyone wanting to pay with a debit card should be careful… we were cheated out of €10… but we noticed and the waiter corrected it when we asked. Still, something like that shouldn't happen.

We had a delicious meal. Pasta with steak, nice and tender; pasta with salmon pieces; lasagna looked really homemade, and the pizza was simply good. The house wine is tasty. Friendly service. You can also sit outside by the canal. There's a small heater, sheltered from the rain. We sat inside, in a cozy cellar.

What a lovely atmosphere on the terrace by the water. We ate our pizza with relish; it was delicious. The waiter came to ask if we wanted coffee. We hadn't thought of that ourselves at all. Upon entering, I saw all sorts of coupes standing on the counter, each containing a treat. "Just take one," said Harun the chef. I didn't have to pay anything. Just try it. It was a coupe with delicious Tiramisu; and honestly, better than the one I ate in Rome. Thanks, Harun, that was so tasty. I devoured it together with my husband.

More than fine pasta on the Utrecht quay by the canal. Friendly and fast service.

I find it very disappointing that when you reserve for a group of 20, you get crammed inside while you would also like to enjoy the sun. Furthermore, I do not think the price-quality ratio is good. The price you pay for the wine is not justified; it tastes at best like a €3.50 German wine. On top of that, you pay for a Burrata pizza and get a ball of mozzarella. Otherwise, they really do their best, but you end up with the atmosphere of a food factory. More about mass appeal than cash, rather than individual focus!

The coffee didn't taste like coffee, but otherwise it was lovely sitting in the sun.

We loved sitting right on the canal for dinner. Watching the boats go by was fun and our meals were very good. Their antipasto was an excellent appetizer! Try it for sure. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The seating is very tight, but they did a good job of keeping up despite us being there on a very busy evening. Our meals were all very good and we felt the service was top notch despite the fact that they were packed. The inside area with bar is VERY cool although we really liked our canal side seating.

I should have read the earlier reviews sooner. Terrible service. Waited way too long, at least 10 minutes, and no one came to take our order. Asked the owner if he would take our order. He said he was on his way. But even though he walked past a few times, no attention was paid to us. Don't go there. Worthless place.

Bad Italian food. Just drink beer and go.

We came here for lunch yesterday. We chose to stay inside, despite the very attractive terrace. The decor is lovely. We ordered pizzas and salad, which were very good and generous portions. We were very surprised by the (mostly negative) reviews; we hadn't seen them. We recommend this restaurant. Thank you to the staff for their warm welcome.

We came here for dinner on Sunday. This is a nice place to sit and enjoy a drink, but the food is disappointing for the price. We ordered an aperitif with mixed bruschettas for two. The aperitif arrived immediately, but we had to wait half an hour for the bruschettas. For the main course, I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara. This was quite tasteless. The spaghetti itself was well cooked, but the egg and cheese mixture didn't seem right, so it didn't bind well with the spaghetti and created a base of this mixture (mainly egg yolk) at the bottom. There wasn't much of the bacon or pepper to taste either. Fortunately, there was some cheese around the plate to give it a bit more flavor.

Despite it being super busy, the whole table of 8 people was served at once, very impressive. Friendly staff.

It was not a pleasant experience. They responded curtly and the service was a disorganized mess. The orders all arrived separately; for some, it took quite a long time before we received the food (we waited 2.5 hours for the food). On top of all that, I also got food poisoning. And I quickly noticed that a lot of it was not prepared fresh. The location is great, as is the interior. Otherwise, not recommended.

Nice place and good food by the water while boats sail by.

One of the worst restaurant experiences in the Netherlands. Food was very basic, I ordered a carbonara and didn’t finish it because it was too fat and plain. Tiramisu was dry and tasteless as well. Followed by developed acute gastrointestinal symptoms a few hours after the meal. The waiter didn’t want to let us move to another table even though it was free and not reserved. Location and vibe is good but it was a real trap. Absolutely never again, avoid this place!

We had been going to this place for a long time, even visiting with our guests, but the staff and service were absolutely appalling on our last visit. After ordering on August 8th, 2026, we were practically beaten up in the restaurant. The waiters who took our order were incredibly angry and rude. The pizza we received was the worst pizza you could ever eat in an Italian restaurant! The service you receive for the high price will be a disappointment!!! In short, due to the changing staff and terrible food, I would never recommend it.

We were a group of 12… sat inside at the back… ordering the first drink took ages… Carbonara had nothing to do with the original… nothing with bacon either… and nothing with garlic… it tasted like pasta with cream… I should have ordered the pizza… the second round of drinks was forgotten… and we just left it… the cooling outside air was refreshing… it seems like the restaurant has more seats than it can handle in terms of cooking speed/preparation and service… what a mess… not the cheapest and certainly not the best…

The sandwich wasn't tasty enough for the €8 I paid and the service was absolutely terrible.

Unfortunately, the service was appalling. We had made a reservation properly, but despite that, we waited 1.5 hours for the pizza. Over 30 minutes for the drinks. We offered to reach a solution with a particularly generous compromise, but that was rejected, and we were asked to pay the full price anyway. We were offered coffee, though. It's a shame, because there was much more profit to be made!

You are not allowed to choose your own spot. After 20 minutes, the drinks order was taken and received after 10 minutes (normal). After 15/20 minutes, the order still hadn't been taken. But we left, and then things took action. Too bad, though the food was different.

An excellent Italian restaurant. We are in Utrecht for an international convention, and this restaurant is simply amazing ! Our waitress was so friendly, the food is excellent, and the place is really beautiful. 5 stars isn't enough to describe it —thank you anyway!

Very poor and unfriendly service. We only wanted to have coffee and sat by the water. The employee was very rude from the start and made it clear that we were not welcome there because it was dinnertime. After a long wait, our coffee never arrived at all. We therefore just left. Absolutely not recommended, never again for me.

When we arrived, we asked if we could have a drink, after which we were assigned a table that was fine in itself. What was wrong, however, was that it took 20 minutes before we were served. The weather was nice, so we overlooked it. After raising our hand to get attention, our order was initially taken incorrectly. As soon as we received the order, we pointed this out politely and it was exchanged; this walk took another 4 minutes. When we wanted to pay, it turned out that the order had never been adjusted and they wanted us to pay for the old order, which was considerably more expensive. After he gave us a strange look when we mentioned it, he went inside to make the adjustment. In short, poor service and poor communication.

The location is excellent, right on the canal; it's quite enchanting. The food is good, but the service is appalling: a 35-minute wait for a plate of antipasti (apparently uncooked)? All the tables around us (who arrived later) were served before us. And when our main course finally arrived, the only excuse we got was, "Here you go, it walked all the way from Italy, ha ha ha." The fact that it was said in French didn't amuse me. And when it came time for the bill, we had to chase after the waiter I'd flagged down 10 minutes earlier. What a shame the service doesn't live up to the setting!

Mouse poop!!! Truly a terrible experience. The pasta looked fine at first glance, until I saw small black droppings lying among the pasta and shrimp while eating. 🤢 I don't think I need to explain what they looked like… I stopped eating immediately. My appetite was completely gone, and I felt nauseous for the rest of the evening just thinking about it. For a restaurant, you expect at the very least that hygiene is taken seriously. I will absolutely not be coming back here. 1 star, and that is actually too much.

Mid and the next day was unpleasant

Disappointment Our pizza and pasta carbonara were not good and the service left much to be desired: everything took a very long time, and when our drinks arrived, things were wrong as well. Receipts from the order took even longer. Our spot on the Oude Gracht made up for it a little, but this is not the place to be for good, tasty Italian food. For us, the first and last time.

The lasagna was bland and stale. The pizza was tasteless. The atmosphere was nice, though. But the food wasn't top-notch.

Worst meal I’ve had in a long time. The pizza was incredibly basic, with dough that was no better than what I make at home. Compared to other Italian restaurants that I eat Pizza, this was a child’s work. The anchovies and egg combination in salad just didn’t work for my taste at all. The chicken tasted like cheap, precooked supermarket chicken, and the cucumber was dried out, suggesting it had been sitting around for long. I saw some blue pieces in the cocktail that worries me they were some plastic pieces. Overall, there was nothing about these dishes that reflected the quality or authenticity I associate with Italian cuisine. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. I’m heading somewhere else now to have a proper dinner.

The pizza was the same level as you’d get from a kebab shop, nothing to do with Italy. Bar none the worst Italian restaurant I’ve been at. My partner had a salad and half of the vegetables were extremely dry as if they were out waiting from the day before.

A wonderful Italian restaurant with a beautiful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for a family meal or a casual dinner with friends. The pizza was absolutely delicious, with a fresh, crispy crust and excellent flavors. The shrimp and mushroom pasta (( scampi)) was equally impressive—rich, creamy, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor, with fresh shrimp in every bite. The service was excellent, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. If you’re looking for authentic and delicious Italian food, I highly recommend this restaurant. I will definitely be coming back on my next visit.

Il Pozzo has a fantastic location right by the water, creating a relaxed atmosphere that’s perfect for a summer evening. The terrace offers plenty of seating, so we had no trouble finding a nice spot, and the menu has a good variety of dishes to choose from. We ordered the pasta and the lasagne, and both were very tasty and clearly freshly prepared. One thing that stood out, unfortunately not in a positive way, was the Weissbier (Hoegaarden Wit). It was served warm in what looked like a lemonade glass with a slice of lemon, which is unusual and didn’t taste good at all. The service was fast and efficient, but also impersonal. Our order was taken quickly and the food arrived without much waiting, but there was no interaction from the staff. Overall, the food and location made for an enjoyable visit, but a little more attention to the drinks and a warmer approach to service would have made the experience even better.

We had lunch here by the water in beautiful weather. A truly atmospheric location. The pizzas were good.

The only plus point is the location, right on the canal. The butter in the pane e burro was rock hard, straight from the freezer. The Italian roll with mozzarella was served in the same kind of dish the pane came in. Why no plate? After a long wait, the bruschetta arrived: four half-baked pieces of baguette with the burrata spread on top, garnished with a pathetic number of olives on the side and one stuffed cherry tomato with some nondescript leaves (basil?). Pff, what a farce this food, which is supposed to pass for Italian! I have never eaten so badly. The cocktails were decent, even though they blatantly lied about the mojito that was served when a Dark 'n' Stormy was ordered. So, bad service.

The food was actually really tasty! An older gentleman was very surly and curt. When paying, it was suddenly 20 euros? For 2 sandwiches under 6 euros and a cola??? The gentleman cheerfully said, "I added a tip for myself." So watch out there!

On the plus side, the location. Being by the canal is great for the atmosphere. Apart from that, nothing is right. The service (except for the friendly young woman) is deplorable. We had to ask for cutlery even though several servers walked by and saw that we couldn't eat. And the pizzas were bad, greasy, and overpriced. The interior, however, is worth a look; it's splendid.

Had a great pizza, outstanding view of the Oudegracht Canal but the service was a bit slow.

We recently dined at this establishment at the invitation of a friend. We were well and truly spoiled with a platter of appetizers from which you could choose a variety of small bites, a main course that was delicious, and homemade tiramisu!! We dined in a separate room that provided space for performing various acts—it was a retirement party—and personal gatherings. We look back on a wonderful evening with delicious dishes, pleasant service, and a great atmosphere among the guests!!

Undisputed number one in Utrecht for years. Il Pozzo has the best pizzas, skilled waiters, and fast service. As you can see, the terrace is packed, yet you are served quickly, and with a bit of sunshine, it is delightful to spend time here by the canal. Professionals at work here!

The food was good, and the drinks were delicious as well. Unfortunately, the seating area was not ideal because it was right next to the kitchen with a lot of traffic. However, I would like to compliment one of the young female staff members. She was extremely friendly and provided excellent service.

After a lovely day of shopping, we wanted to end our holiday day nicely by the canal. We had been strongly advised against this beforehand, and we understand why now. The service, particularly the “owner”, was downright rude. He lacks any sense of etiquette. At least by our standards. Food was brought incredibly quickly while the terrace was packed. The tuna calzone pizza was more dough and onion than pizza. It took an incredibly long time for someone to come to us after our meal. Consequently, we walked inside ourselves. On the way, the same man already shoved our bill into our hands. Once again, we were not treated kindly by this gentleman. There wasn't even a thank you, a nice evening, or goodbye to be had. Friendliness costs nothing.... So, we will not be coming back here!!!!

There were four of us, and my (lukewarm) lasagna arrived after just 2 minutes; probably a mistake in the kitchen and they had leftovers... by the time my lasagna was finished, the pizzas for the rest of us arrived. In short... lukewarm lasagna and the pizzas weren't that good either. The location by the water is great, but that was the only thing great about our visit.

A mozzarella sandwich with slices isn't really Italian. Not tasty.

We thought we were going to have a nice meal, but no. We had some drinks which were good, as they should be. Lunch: 7 paninis; I think paninis are supposed to be toasted, but the food was abnormally bad. We got a sandwich with cold ingredients on it. Square slices that just came out of the freezer. No second time for me and my friends.

I came here for lunch with my friends; we all ordered a panini that was very dry and lacked flavor. It had a lot of iceberg lettuce on it and tasted like grass. This was not a pleasant experience.

I arrived at the restaurant and placed my order in English: a bisteca and a beer. The beer arrived quickly, but the bisteca took 1 hour and 20 minutes. I later found out that the waiter had misunderstood my order and thought I wanted the food to be served much later. After about 40 minutes, I tried to ask him about my order. He simply signaled that it was on the way. I waited even longer, and nothing arrived. When I asked again, he told me they were only going to start preparing it at that moment. I am not from the Netherlands and was trying to pay with a card from my home country. My phone battery had died, so I only asked if I could use a power outlet since I already had my charging cable. The same waiter was extremely arrogant. He also didn’t know how to use the payment terminal properly and still blamed my card for the problem. I do not recommend this restaurant if you value good service and your time. There are many much better Italian restaurants in Utrecht.

We have been waiting since 1 hour and when we tell them that we are still waiting, they said that it is totally normal we are really busy. I don’t accept that we are starving and it has been 1 hour and that say it is totally normal ??

Best pizza in Utrecht, I've rarely eaten so well.

Hello, yesterday my wife and I ate at ll Pozzo. It was very busy, but that is actually a good thing. After waiting 5 minutes for a table, we sat down and were politely asked if we wanted to order drinks already. We did so, and the drinks arrived very quickly. After that, we ordered two delicious pizzas, which tasted excellent. I know what I'm talking about; I've been to Italy a lot and worked at one pizzeria for years, so I've eaten quite a few pizzas in my life. We will definitely eat here more often. All in all, a good experience. The food was good, the location is great by the water, and the staff is friendly. Greetings and see you soon.

Turned away on a beautiful summer day. We had already been sitting and drinking for a few hours and were not allowed to order any more drinks because we weren't going to eat anything. So we didn't get any more drinks and had to pay quite quickly afterwards. After we finished our drinks, we were also sent away immediately. Very poor service, very abrupt, and it took a long time before we could order or before they came to us. So, not customer-friendly at all. You pay quite a lot for bad service. The location is nice, but you shouldn't come here for customer friendliness.

I was sitting here with two friends on a beautiful summer day in July. Quite a few minutes had passed before we were served. Once ordered, the drink was served fairly quickly. However, the service was extremely poor. Impersonal and curt, right from the start. A few hours later, around 6 p.m., we were actually told to leave as soon as possible, as we didn't want to order food. This was not accepted. We were immediately told we could no longer order drinks. Before I had even finished the last sip of my drink, the next guests were already being sent to our table, while we were still seated. We HAD to leave immediately. Also, you pay a lot for what you get. In short: A pretty customer-unfriendly place.

Everything seemed okay at first me and my girlfriend got a beer and some water, nice location and all but when we went to pay, the waiter smacked my cap whilst its on my head, genuinely hit it while my girlfriend was paying 4 euro for a small cup of water and 6.50 euro for a beer, I’m not sure how a glass of water costs 4 euros but the sheer disrespect of the waiter hitting my cap is appalling DO NOT COME HERE 0/10

The food is okay, but certainly nothing more than that. You get Spa Red for 4 euros without a bottle, in a Coca-Cola glass. It just isn't quite there, except that it is situated in a nice location.

We came to take a seat nearby water, there were three waiters who sent us to very different tables, which we didn’t like. Finally, when we found a place which we liked, the waiter came and sent us to the other restaurant once our response was that we are here only for drinks. We felt really bad and decided to leave the place. Unfriendly staff and strange atmosphere. Don’t recommend this place!!

The website said it was less busy than usual, but even after waiting 20 minutes we still weren't served, even though we were noticed. Ridiculous, you shouldn't go to this place!!! Couldn't even eat, it was so slow. Don't go there!!

Very nice restaurant, very friendly service, always friendly and welcoming!! The pizzas are top-notch and the pastas are also very tasty. For cocktails, I always choose the Strawberry Dreams cocktail; highly recommended!!

We were there last night with four people (two adults and two children). The food was delicious, and I think the prices are really reasonable considering the location. However, we were particularly impressed by the service. They were incredibly friendly, attentive, and really went out of their way to look after the kids. We were able to order our food and drinks promptly, and we didn't have to wait long.

My fiancé and I loved this place, we couldn’t stop thinking about it so we are going back for a second meal on our trip. Anyone saying food is bland is highly incorrect.

A very disappointing experience. The staff seemed friendly at first, but after we paid, we noticed the total was much higher than expected. After some time, they told us they had added a 10% tip without asking us first, even though it wasn’t mandatory. If you go there, make sure to check your bill carefully. This kind of practice feels like a scam.

The pizzas were tasty, but the service was terrible. It was very quiet, but impossible to get any contact with anyone.

I wanted to eat here with a friend; we both ordered a pizza. I went for a funghi pizza. After waiting half an hour for our food, I noticed that there were pieces of anchovy on half of my pizza. If there's one thing I find gross, it's fish, so I pointed this out to the wait staff. The wait staff apologized and gave me mint tea or coffee as compensation?? The pizza was also tough and not tasty at all. The staff is extremely arrogant and mean; don't go here. Walk past a place if you want to eat with pleasure. Weird place. The staff makes mean comments and loves to gossip. I also just had to shell out 70 euros for a gross pizza with anchovies that I didn't order; I didn't even get a discount.

We had a delicious meal at one of the best spots in Utrecht (lovely on the Oudegracht), fast and friendly service, and we were even able to order a pizza that wasn't on the menu and was therefore made especially; what a wonderful evening we had.

Enjoying a pizza with delicious burrata on the banks of the canal in the evening sun is pure bliss, especially with a lovely glass of Chardonnay. A top-notch spot!

Owner tried to scam on order prices, charged a lot for a glass of water, the water he told it was didn't even exist on the menu. Avoid this place.

Very unfriendly waiter. My girlfriend had a drink. I didnt want to drink anything and then the waiter said annoyed: "so what are you coming here"... Meanwhile there were plenty of empty tables so it wasnt even an opportunity cost I was creating...

The Italian restaurant Il Pozzo is beautifully situated on the Oude Gracht canal; you can sit right by the water and watch the activity on the canal. The service was very attentive and friendly, and the pizzas we ordered were delicious.

Had a great meal after a day of strolling through Utrecht. Pleasant by the canal, the atmosphere of Utrecht is fully present.

The food was fine. The pasta carbonara had less flavor than I had hoped. The Limone seemed to have been in the freezer all day, because it was rock hard. The staff was quite slow due to the crowds and started arguing with guests, which is not polite. As a result, I lost my tip. The location is beautiful and the atmosphere is okay, provided there are enough guests.

What a tasteless & greasy pizza. The location by the water is fantastic, but... jeez, what a sparsely topped pizza. 4 slices of salami and 1 thick slice of ham (without taste), and the grease was dripping off it. As a result, the base was completely soggy. Coke from the machine (no bottle on the table); no, this wasn't worth the money. We'll skip this one next time. Do you have any suggestions for value-for-money dining by the canal?

Great location for tourists. My date and I stopped in for a casual drink (wine and beer). We also ordered fries, but unfortunately they were very disappointing dry, stale-tasting, and not what we expected. We politely asked to return them, which is where things took a turn. The server became rude and defensive and insisted the fries were fine, refusing to even taste them when we suggested it. What really crossed the line was the way he then spoke to me and my partner, the language used was completely inappropriate, swearing and unprofessional for any customer-facing role. The location has real potential, but the experience we had was let down significantly by the service. Better staff training, especially around how to handle complaints calmly and respectfully, would go a long way. We won’t be returning, but hopefully management takes feedback like this serio
