Fantastic picturesque place with a great staff who still enjoy their work at a relatively late age. A long dining experience but after this you will be more than satisfied! Fast service combined with delicious food that really makes you feel like you are eating in someone's living room. At this restaurant you only feel warmth and love through their food and care. Afterwards we had a chat with the sweet owner about the restaurant and themselves. I will definitely come back for occasions as long as Mr. and Mrs. are still working!

Great, authentic teppanyaki Japanese food. The ambient is cozy and the number of seating is limited, so I suggest reserving in advance. They had been in business for 27 years now, which is a guarantee of quality.

A visit to Benkei restaurant is truly an experience in itself! Not only was the food incredibly delicious, but the preparation of it was also a great show. We enjoyed how a spectacle was made of it, but especially the delicious flavors. The restaurant is cozy and very cozy at the same time. The combination of food and drinks is perfectly matched. Definitely recommended, especially if you are with a group. It is fantastic to enjoy this unique experience together!

We had a delicious tepanyaki meal here. For us the mix with meat and fish. Very tasty, plenty of food. Personally, the dessert could also be a bit more Japanese-oriented. Now 3 pieces of fruit with a scoop of ice cream, a bit on the simple side

Calm, authentic vibe at this Japanese staple in The Hague. Incredible food, fresh ingredients, everything prepared and grilled to perfection. Very welcoming people, will come back and highly recommended.

Unacceptably slow service. Reserved a table at 6pm and ordered food by 6:15. After which we waited for 2 hours before getting our sushi. Others at the restaurant could also be seen on their phones and bored out of their mind as they waited endlessly for their food. The sashimi and sushi were served warm which made it feel like u were eating fish that just came out of someones pocket. Safe to say that we won't coming back and I would only reccomend this place to people I hate.

Very attentive service - one celiac person was offered gluten free ( celiac friendly ) solutions + they have gluten free soy sauce . Been there several times and always had a great experience with any meal we tasted. Food was very good in taste and presentation. Highly recommended

This is a wonderful Japanese restaurant! The staff is very nice, friendly and attentive. It was my mother's birthday and they took care of decorations and little Japanese surprises. They gave my mother a card with her name in Japanese, an origami crane for luck and fireworks for dessert. Thank you, guys 🙌🏻 The food was very delicious. Juicy meat, tender fish, crispy salad and fresh sushi. The presentation of the soup was amazing, in the form of sakura branches and flowers. It was very interesting to watch the chef cook in front of you and put on a fire show 👨‍🍳 🔥 At the end we received a compliment from the restaurant owner in the form of Japanese coffee to make in the morning ☕️ The atmosphere in the restaurant is quiet, measured and conducive to relaxation, as if you had stopped to eat at a family restaurant somewhere in the middle of Fukuoka 🎏 🎐 Arigato Gozaumasu, we will definitely come back ♥️

There are a few good Japanese restaurants in The Hague. Benkei has been one of these top restaurants for more than 27 years.

I made reservations well in advance for a special dinner, but we were not allowed to dine in the restaurant as we had a baby with us (as explained in the reservation message). We were informed only childeren five years and older are allowed in, because babies can cry. We are very accustomed to eating out with a baby (which stays in our baby carrier) and though extremely rare, as we plan carefully around nap/sleep times, if for any reason we think we would be affecting the experience of anyone else, one of us always takes a short walk with the baby, while the other one can eat and switch if needed. We were very sad to be denied, but we understand the policy, though being informed in advance would be appreciated. The restaurant also should be advised that five year olds can cause much more disturbance if unhappy than newborns safely tucked in a baby carrier.

Celebrated our wedding date here today. Ben Kei turns a dinner into an experience. Professional, helpful and service-oriented service. Honest and fresh dishes and top quality ingredients served in a traditional Japanese way. If you want a show with all the bells and whistles, go eat somewhere else. Beautiful place. It is quite quiet, but this is because everyone was enjoying themselves. The food was delicious and they gave me a card for my birthday. The fish and meat were wonderfully tender and good, but in our case we could have added a little more salt (we like our food slightly saltier), but it was delicious. They also have delicious Japanese fruit liqueurs and delicious whiskey for a great price. They also gave me a card for my birthday. Very cute in Japanese. So if you want a Japanese drink with delicious fish/meat, then you should come here. Don't forget to make a reservation because there are not many places

Had a delicious meal at Benkei on the Denneweg in The Hague. It's nice that there are still real Japanese restaurants where the staff actually comes from Japan. For the real and pure Japanese taste. Experience it yourself.

Great food (we had teppanyaki) - fresh and tasty. Calm atmosphere and good service. Also very good value for money compared to the €40-50 3-course menus at other restaurants. We’ll be back.

Delicious food, the owners are super friendly and everything is well explained. Chose the Tepanyaki menu and everything went well. A big 10 from me. Good food, good atmosphere and good price. Worth repeating.

These people understand the art of the catering trade. The food is refined, the layout is beautiful and a feast for the eyes, the lady and gentleman who have been running the business (for centuries) are super sweet and correct. You can clearly see and taste that they put love into everything. Eating at the griddle with high quality food. No food cravings, no overfull and nauseous feeling when you walk out the door. No, you walk out of here very satisfied and happy. A jewel. For years.

A Japanese-run restaurant that offers quality, authentic sushi. Sashimi were fresh and nigiris were delicious. The owner served our food one by one and educated us on how to properly eat sushi (the right way). He was so kind and the service was great! Definitely coming back here the next time I’m in Den Haag. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

We spend an amazing evening here taking a Teppan Yaki menu. The staff is incredibly friendly and kind, the food left us wanting more despite the portions being so generous we couldn’t have another bite, and the show of your food being prepared in front of you is very special indeed. 5/5 stars across the board, we will definitely be back again.

This place almost feels like a secret spot in this street. Super friendly service, amazing food, and a lot of care is put in plating. I can definitely recommend the Echigo beer as well!

When you stand at the front you wonder what you got yourself in too.. but once inside it is amazing. Everything looks authentic Japanese, the food is amazing and the service is too! Definitely coming back here whenever I'm in the neighborhood.

Visited Benkei for a sushi making workshop followed by teppanyaki. It was an amazing experience! Would highly recommend to anyone who loves sushi but hasn't made it before. We will be back for more teppenyaki soon!

A nice and proper Japanese restaurant with excellent food.

Food was good and fantastic. Accept slow service if fully occupied.

Not at all a proper teppenyaki experience in my opinion. The rice was a tiny portion of most likely microwaved. I was expecting egg fried rice, as I’ve had at others. The chicken wasn’t great, but the rib eye was nice. There were hardy any vegetables. Just an extremely underwhelming and bland experience overall for someone used to a very lively experience at these types of restaurants. I have to say the staff is very nice though.

We hebben ons aangenaam laten verrassen door dit restaurant. Geen hippe zaak, maar wel intiem en niet zo groot. Een vriendelijke man (de eigenaar?) ontving ons en adviseerde ons over de saké; we mochten een extra glaasje proeven ter vergelijking. Het eten was "veilig": de smaken zijn weinig verrassend maar lekker, ook door de verse en malse ingrediënten. Ik kom er graag nog eens terug.

A lovely restaurant. The staff were very attentive and gave us recommendations on what to order. It is very authentic. It reminded me of when I lived in Japan. Was very enjoyable.

Heerlijk eten en een authentieke sfeer. Het interieur is wel écht aan vervanging toe. Vrij prijzig. Maar echt lekker.

The rice wasn’t cooked on the grill and it tasted like it was cooked in the microwave with no seasoning at all and mushy. The ribeye was the only decent part of the meal. The chicken tasted like it was barely cooked so I didn’t eat it. The chef didn’t say hello or talk to us at all and couldn’t have less hospitality if he wanted to. Half the plate was bean sprouts and we each only got a slice of carrot, a slice of zucchini and a mushroom. It just wasn’t much. For the reviews of this restaurant, I expected more. The man at the front desk was friendly but I don’t think I will be returning.

Wat een geweldige ervaring was dit! Voor ongeveer 10/20 euro meer dan bij de standaard all you can eat tenten heb je hier heerlijke versbereide Japanse gerechten! Het mixed menu genomen met sushi en vis soep vooraf, vis en vlees als main en een lekker toetje! Met zijn drieën klaar voor 180 euro inclusief fooi en 2 grote biertjes! Echte aanrader voor elke fan van Japans eten! Top sfeer en vriendelijke bediening!

Had a super nice birthday dinner here. I have been looking for a teppanyaki place that was hopefully authentic and this place gave exactly that. Genuine ambiance and food, no pretentious decor. It was lovely. The service was great, slower pace but attentive. Makes you enjoy the process.

Verdadera experiencia japonesa. La calidad de la comida (varias opciones, destacando el sushi y el teppanyaki), el ambiente y la atención recibida hacen que 5 estrellas se queden cortas. Celebraron 25 años hace poco, y espero que duren muchos más. Precio más que adecuado, considerando lo que se suele cobrar en restaurantes japoneses.
