I'm leaving a review because I'm speechless. We came here for our honeymoon and because of the good reviews, but this is the worst. At first, when they showed us to our seats, the candles weren't lit, so I didn't know what to do, so I said "excuse me sir" about five times, even shouting it really loudly. But they ignored me and walked away. My husband ended up getting it from an empty table and replacing it. I figured they must have been too busy and couldn't hear me. A male employee with dreadlocks was telling us our order, and I couldn't tell if he was working or what, but he kept looking at his phone, which was annoying. I tried to complain to a passing employee, but he said he'd call someone, but no one came. A dreadlocked employee came to take the order for a foreign family at the next table, so I shouted "excuse me sir" about three times to talk to him. I spoke so loudly that the other foreign families looked at me. But he ignored me and walked away, so I tried to speak to the blonde employee at the register, but his expression was unpleasant. When I asked how many minutes ago it happened, I said 30 minutes ago. I showed her the translated sentence, and she said, "I don't understand Chinese." I replied, "I'm from South Korea, I'm not good at speaking English." It was ridiculous. I clearly told the blonde employee, "What I want is an apology. Wouldn't it have been unpleasant if you were on the other side?" But she said she didn't understand. Frustrated, I asked a foreign grandmother passing by for help and then told the blonde employee. Even after I told her, I was still stuck standing in the corner of the entrance door, so I was annoyed and came back to my room. I showed both the grandmother and the blonde employee the same translated sentence, but why didn't the employee understand? Was the dreadlocked employee's name Nacho? I don't know the blonde employee's name. I wasn't expecting perfect service, but I think they need to be able to listen to their customers. The blonde employee was even more upset than the dreadlocked employee. I stopped four employees to complain, but no one helped or did anything to address the situation. I thought Amsterdam was a nice place and the people were friendly, but this restaurant completely changed my opinion. ​I am writing this review because I am beyond frustrated. My husband and I visited this restaurant during our honeymoon because of its good reputation, but it turned out to be the worst experience of our trip. ​First, when we were seated, the candle on our table wasn't lit. I called out "Excuse me, sir" about five times, quite loudly, but the staff completely ignored me and walked past. Eventually, my husband had to go to an empty table and swap the candle himself. We tried to be understanding, thinking it might be too busy or loud. ​However, the service only got worse. A waiter with dreadlocks (I believe his name is Nacho) came to take our order, but he was constantly checking his phone while I was speaking to him. It was incredibly rude. When I tried to complain to another passing staff member, they said they would call someone over, but no one ever came. ​Later, when the same waiter (Nacho) went to the table next to us to serve a foreign family, I tried to catch his attention again. I said "Excuse me, sir" three times loudly enough that the neighboring family stared at me, yet he ignored me again and walked away. ​The peak of this nightmare was the blonde staff member at the cashier. When I tried to explain the situation, she had a terrible attitude. I showed her a translated message explaining my frustration. Even though the message was clear, she said dismissively, "I don't understand Chinese." I told her, "I am from South Korea, and I'm not good at speaking English," but she continued to be unhelpful. ​I even asked a passing elderly lady (another customer) for help. I showed her the exact same translated text, and she understood it perfectly—so why did the staff member claim not to understand? It felt like a deliberate act of ignoring me or a lack of basic respect. ​All I wanted was a simple apology. I asked the blonde staff member, "Wouldn't you feel the same way if you were in my position?" but she just kept saying she didn't understand. We ended up leaving and going back to our hotel because the experience was so stressful. ​I wasn't expecting perfect service, but basic human respect and the ability to listen to a customer are essential. The blonde staff member's dismissive and discriminatory attitude was even more hurtful than Nacho's. This place completely ruined our special evening.

This side dish is honestly disappointing. A plain, sandwich bread next to a steak feels lazy, cheap, and out of place for a main dish that should be the star of the meal. You can offer instead a freshly baked bread (baguette, sourdough, or rustic rolls). Overall meat was perfectly done and tasty and the atmosphere was very good.

We had dinner tonight. The starter arrived with the main course, but that might have been because it was ordered a bit later. We received three slices of bread with our three steaks. When we wanted more bread, it wasn't possible because they were out. Well, it's your favorite dish on the menu, and you always have bread in stock. For dessert, it turned out that Loetje's dessert was out of stock. Drinks were impossible to order because the staff seemed oblivious to the customers, probably understaffed. Truly the worst experience I've ever had at Loetje.

Great food but service was terrible. Specific waiters for food and drinks so when you ask for more drinks you’re told to ask someone else. No one comes near you and they aren’t attentive at all. We tried the Balinese and garlic sauce. The Balinese was a bit spicy and salty. Both were delicious. Afterward, we tried the apple pie. It was quite good. I wouldn't hesitate to come back. Reservations are necessary just for the canal view. There can be a long line out the door on weekend evenings.

Today, something truly bizarre happened. The host of this location met me at his counter today and asked if I could have a napkin. Loetje is across from Central Station; it's described as a cafe. I wasn't familiar with this location. The host said they've been there for 20 years. He said this disparagingly, as if I should have known. Well, it didn't start well, but then he added that he finds it very strange that I'm asking them. When I indicated that I expected that if I asked nicely and politely, there might be a chance I could get ONE napkin for my condition to refresh myself, He said, "This isn't a candy store," and then pointed to a corner. By then, I was done with this gentleman's gold. No is also an answer; he genuinely ruined the Loetje brand for me. I enjoyed eating there during my time in the Zuidas, and later with my business as well. On principle I'm not going to do this anymore, a sort of shame session when you ask for a napkin in a popular restaurant.

We came with very high hopes for our second and last night in Amsterdam. We were seated by the window with an amazing view, so the evening started well. However, the overall experience matters a lot to me, and the service really let things down. The staff were clearly overwhelmed by the crowd; there are simply too many tables, the noise level is extreme, service is slow, and a couple of the staff members were not very friendly. Do not get me wrong: the food itself is excellent, which is the only reason this is not a one-star review. The beef was incredible, the sauce was delicious, and the carpaccio was beautifully soft. But I cannot understand why such outstanding meat and sauce are served with plain white toast bread. The dish practically begs for a proper piece of bread to soak up the sauce. Such a missed opportunity and a real disappointment.

When we first arrived at the restaurant, there was what appeared to be a queue. When it was our turn, we explained that there were three of us, and they told us to wait, moving to a sort of waiting area. While we waited, at least ten people, varying in size, entered. After waiting 15-20 minutes, we couldn't make sense of what was happening and reconsidered, but they obligingly let us in. When we entered, we were initially shocked to see only ten empty tables. If there were seats, why were we being made to wait? That question should be put aside. Then, we waited for the waiter to bring us menus. Despite our persistent requests, no waiter paid any attention for 5-10 minutes. Finally, we managed to force a waiter, who had brought menus to the table next to us 10 minutes later, to get them. The waiter's ridiculous and sarcastic tone was truly bizarre. Finally, we waited to order. When no one came to take our orders for another 10 minutes, we lost our patience and left the restaurant. While we can't say for sure because we haven't experienced this before, I suspect this was a form of racism. I believe anyone who comes from Turkey or any other country and doesn't want to be treated similarly should definitely not come here.

Sunday evening, November 9, 2025, at 7:45 PM. We had a reservation for 8:30 PM, but we had to leave the table because it was reserved for 8:30 PM. We hadn't even finished our drinks. My wife had gastric bypass surgery, and the food wouldn't even go down. What should have been a pleasant evening was over in 45 minutes. We should have mentioned this, but all we received from the woman was an apology. I really think this is unacceptable, you pay a lot for the food. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a pleasant evening; our evening was ruined by it!

Very happy with the place. One of the best places adapted for people with reduced mobility, which is much appreciated! They were very attentive and made sure everything was alright. They even seated us at a table near the window. The only downside was that there was a noisy table next to us, but I understand that wasn't their fault. Everything else was perfect. The food was delicious, the waiter spoke excellent Spanish and made sure we understood everything. He even told us his name so we could ask him for help if we had any problems. It's a pleasure to be treated this well; I wish we could always receive such good service and food.

My go to place every time I come to Amsterdam; you know the quality is there every time in this Dutch chain. The Bali tenderloin is my favourite as it’s just slightly spicy and has a kick to it. Sweet potatoes fries and veggies as a side went well. If you don’t like mayo, make sure to tell them before as the fries come with a huge load. Bitterballen for starters for a classic Dutch specialty. Overall food is consistently great here. Service was ok, friendly staff but had to ask several times for more bread/drinks. Location of this particular restaurant is superb, perfect before/after taking the train; with a nice view on the large canal. I booked but I don’t think it was necessary.

The menus were put down without any attention. The food, however, was very good. After dinner, the dessert menu was simply thrown on the table without asking if we even wanted dessert. Then she came back and asked, "What do you want?" We then asked for the bill, and she walked away irritated. She then put the card on the table and didn't offer a tip (which she didn't deserve). It was a real shame. The food was delicious, but the woman who didn't speak Dutch had absolutely no decency.

We had reserved a table for three people with the AH ticket deal. Upon arrival, it took a long time for someone to come and show us to our table. We were then seated at a table for two. We immediately asked for a larger table because we wouldn't have enough room for all our plates. The first lady was unhelpful and said she couldn't see which tables were already reserved (you can check on the computer, right?). She then referred us to another colleague. He acted disinterested and showed us to a larger table near the outside door, which was drafty. "No thanks," he said. But before I could say anything else, he left. We remained at the table for two, and when the food was served, the staff realized the table was far too small for so many plates. Why is a group of three, who you know booked with the AH ticket deal, being seated at a table for two? And why do they keep using the excuse that other tables for four are reserved, when we also have a reservation and arrived earlier? A table for two for three is fine if you only order coffee and tea, but not for a large meal, and especially not with the AH ticket deal (steak, fries, bread, salad). After moving twice, we finally sat at a large enough table where all the plates fit and were out of the draft. This was such a bad experience; we won't be returning to this place. Furthermore, the service was friendly and helped us move the plates to the new table. The food tasted good.

My friend has celiac disease, and we asked if there was gluten in a dish. They said they would check for us, which was very nice and helpful at first. But then the dish came out an hour late with no answer. When we asked again, they said they didn’t know and told us to “just check the website.” We then discover on the website that it stated that the dish does contain gluten. When we raised this again, the waitress (blonde and tall) suddenly started yelling at us—completely out of nowhere, since everyone had been calm until that point. She insisted it was gluten free and that “everyone who’s gluten free eats here,” and said that if we don’t “force ourselves to eat the bread”, it’s fine. That doesn’t answer anything about the sauce or sides. Overall, a very disappointing and uncomfortable experience. Weird girl.

Only one person on the front desk which was a cramped area and had people queuing out the door. Was frustrating because we had a reservation and people in front were being seated before us. The best burger of the trip. A little disappointed in the fries they were a little dry. If they had been better it would have been a perfect meal. After reading the reviews I was a bit worried about the service, but despite it being completely full The service was friendly and quick enough, sometimes we had to wait to get their attention but as I said: the whole restaurant was full. The food was amazing! I had the vegetarian option of the steak Bali and it was delicious!! My friends and husband had the regular steak and were also enjoying their food a lot! We will definitely go back!!

My Dutch colleagues described this as steak and grease. They’re definitely underselling the offer. Steaks (sirloins) of three different sizes. Medium was big enough for me. My “grease” was garlic based. As a Brit we call it gravy. Fries and salad and bread to mop up the “grease”. Delicious. And a great blonde wheat beer to go with.

I am honestly shocked by the terrible quality of both service and food at what is supposed to be a renowned steakhouse. First, the reservation chaos. We arrived and were told the restaurant was "fully booked." Their staff told us to book online, which we did. The website showed wide-open availability. When we returned with our confirmed reservation, they again tried to turn us away, claiming they were full. We had to argue and insist just to get the table we had rightfully booked. It was an incredibly frustrating and unwelcoming start. Then came the food. When we ordered our steaks, we were surprised that the staff never asked us how we wanted them cooked. They were simply served to us, presumably as their standard "medium rare." However, the steak that arrived at my plate was not medium rare; it was completely raw and cold in the middle. So, to be clear: they failed to ask for our preference—a basic step at any steak restaurant—and then they failed to even cook the steak to a basic standard. The combination of a chaotic reservation system and a kitchen serving uncooked food is unacceptable. A truly awful experience from start to finish.

We chanced upon this restaurant outside Amsterdam Central and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, while the food was great, the service was very disappointing. We sat for about 5–10 minutes before even getting the menu, and it took another 10–15 minutes for someone to take our order. Our beef steak took almost an hour to arrive and although the menu said it would be served with white bread, none was given to us. We also ordered Heineken, the menu listed 22cl and 25cl options (just a 30ml difference), but when our 25cl beer came, it was served below the line, which made us wonder why we paid for the larger option if it wasn’t poured properly. We weren’t the only ones experiencing slow service. The elderly couple beside us waited 30 minutes just for the menu and another 30 minutes to order, only to have their beer arrive half foam. When the man went to complain, no one seemed to care, he was brushed off. Overall, while the food itself was good, the service experience really ruined the visit. It’s also disappointing to see that management only seems to reply to higher-star reviews and ignores critical feedback, which says a lot about how they value their customers.

Eight of us ordered food, six of which arrived cold. After sending back six steaks, they were overcooked, and the Loetje gravy was unrecognizable; it was more like oil than anything else. We complained to the staff, who were very defensive and unsympathetic. After calling the manager, they subtracted a round, but this didn't make up for the six larger steaks that were ruined. In short, I'd rather go to McDonald's than Loetje Station.

Yesterday 28/8/25 i had the best steak I have ever tasted. Was with my wife and two sons three of us had the fillet steak. I was a little uncertain when I saw other customers had bread with their steak and the steak was served with gravy. Thought I wouldn’t eat it with bread so ordered French fries which is additional cost. The steak was fantastic however the gravy was just as good. And yes I used the bread to soak up the gravy. Honestly you cannot go wrong I strongly recommend this restaurant. We only found this restaurant on our last night before returning to England oh I wish we had found it earlier.

We were assigned a table outside on a terrace, where we could barely sit. A small bench where we had to sit just the two of us. The waitresses were very friendly and kind but wouldn't move us, even though there was plenty of room. They understood our feelings about the assigned seating. We had to report to the counter again... and I think we personally insulted the gentleman by saying we wanted a different seat. His behavior was rude, demeaning, and very unprofessional. We said we could go inside, but no, there wasn't room for three, even though the whole place was empty. We were allowed to wait, but it would have taken at least 45 minutes, while the people in front of us had several seats to choose from. In conclusion, we think this man has a problem with women standing up for themselves. We'll never go back to Loetje Central Station. But just a short walk away, Loetje aan het IJ is a much nicer location with super friendly staff.

I dined here a while ago with a group of seven people. However, it wasn't a particularly pleasant experience: First, we (with a reservation) weren't helped with our first round of drinks until after a full half hour. A little later, we were told this was a major mistake and apologized. Many minutes later, we were asked what we wanted to eat. However, it turned out that this order hadn't been properly communicated to the kitchen. The table was set in a rather unappealing way. Definitely not according to table manners. Later, it turned out that one dish wasn't included in the order. Someone in my group didn't have any food and didn't receive it until later than the rest. The food was almost lukewarm. I had the satay skewer. This came after a long wait for the food to arrive. Finally, we were given peppermints. These were thrown at each of us. I've seen better from Loetje branches.
