A friendly brown cafe with a good beer list

There were an awful lot of aphids in my tea. When I pointed this out, my complaint was not taken seriously. Instead of understanding or a sincere apology, I felt brushed off. As if that wasn't unpleasant enough, a staff member then made the remark: “I hope no insects are crawling out of your food.” I found that remark extremely inappropriate and disrespectful, especially given the situation. Instead of handling the complaint professionally, an unpleasant remark was made that made me feel completely unappreciated as a customer. Because of this experience, I will not be returning here, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend this café.

Not sure if it was a misunderstanding off accents or what but the waiters didn't write anything down, missed things, got multiple things wrong and forgot some orders.... then had a bit of an attitude about it if im honest. Perhaps a bad day for them but not sure id be back

I’ve been regularly visiting this bruine kroegen for 25 years. It’s one of the classic brown bars with a unique interior. The staff are really efficient and they’ve always done decent food. I miss the cat !

The coffee and croissant were good. The service was a shame; they brought our coffees and then the rest of our breakfast took 15 minutes. We asked for napkins three times. They only brought them as we were leaving. You guys can do better!

I come here often; it's a little gem for some great people-watching. Unfortunately, the service has been down lately. 🥲 I've been sitting here for almost an hour now, and someone has come over to take my drink order only once. You really have to try hard to get the staff's attention.

Top spot A gem among all the tourist junk

Giving 1 star because 0 is not possible. The curly hair ginger waitress was so unprofessional. I ordered a latte and got half a glass of coffee and the other half was foam. I asked her if she could fix it and she said they just make it like that (my friend ordered the same and got it right). I went inside to ask again and she grabbed it from my hands and put more foam in it. One of the rudest waitresses I’ve bumped into in my life.

The pastrami sandwich was absolutely the greatest thing I have ever eaten. MUST VISIT. Staff also lovely and the place has such a lovely vibe and it catches lots of sun in the late morning.

I've been going to this café for years. Unfortunately, I had a really bad experience today. A customer accidentally bumped into the waiter's tray. The waiter took revenge by emptying the entire bottle of blackcurrant on her clothes and bag! We were stunned! We asked him for an explanation. He shouted that he didn't care, that it was her fault. I've never seen such rude behavior!

Super friendly staff! The girls who work here really do their best and are very friendly. You are also really well catered for when it comes to food and drinks, because the price-quality ratio is excellent! Definitely recommended!

Saturday, 520pm. Entered the place. Came to the bar. A young lady working there looked at me and asked me « what? ». I replied « I would like a beer » She replied, visibly upset « you have to wait! You have to wait!» Her colleague, a young boy came immediately « there are too many people, you have to wait, you cannot order like that » … fine I cannot order at the bar, makes total sense. I told them that are rude, impolite and if they are under water they could have just ignored me instead of asking me « what »… The guy got mad and asked me to leave. As usual in Amsterdam, the service is so so (young students who don’t really like their job fine) but they could stay gentle and polite.

Nice quiet place and the gentleman serving us was so kind and attentive. When we left, we accidentally left a bag behind (with expensive product inside) and he came running out to return it to us. Thank you!!

A nice pub to visit whilst visiting Amsterdam. We didn't try the food, but the drinks were very good.

Tourist trap, food was average, once you have eaten or had your drink they subtlety push to to leave the premises. Better places to visit.

On the Nieuwmarkt, this crowded and bustling terrace is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink and watch the world go by. The menu features decent wines, is affordable, especially for this location, and the service is friendly but a bit chaotic.

Went here for breakfast wouldn't recommend we didn't like anything about it.

It was a lovely atmosphere in a very beautiful area! I can only recommend it!

Very disappointing service. We waited outside for 20 minutes just to place an order. When we finally went inside, the staff member at the bar became upset for no reason and told us to go back outside. I was simply trying to order a drink and was being polite the entire time.

The staff is arrogant, insulting, and a bit racist. A 50% tip seems to be the norm at this establishment, as they're not satisfied with anything less. It's a shame this was the case, otherwise we would definitely have stayed longer. This is the expense I regret most this past month.

I'm there now. I ordered a triple karmeliet, the waitress brought me 2, I told her I only ordered one, and complained when I pointed it out. She was rude throughout the service because "one beer wasted". As my friends finished their drinks, the waitress cleared the table to make it clear that we had to leave. In short, a nice bar, but that's all it has.

A truly lovely café right on the Nieuwmarkt. Here you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner inside or outside. The place has been around for ages. When you sit inside, you can fully enjoy the ambiance. It's truly quaint.

The place to be! Wonderful traditional Amsterdam neighborhood café with fantastic staff, a beautiful interior, and a cozy terrace. The price-quality ratio is perfect, and the meatball sandwich is highly recommended! Amsterdam at its very best!

Lokaal t’ Loosje in Amsterdam is always a fun stop, especially for a refreshing La Chouffe beer when back in the Netherlands. Sit outside in the lively square, watch the world go by, and soak in the vibrant city atmosphere.

Friendly and helpful staff. Few tourists. Delicious nachos. And always a great atmosphere.

Well... in terms of price and friendly service, you're in good hands. But... which handyman wants to fix the problems in the men's room, and it doesn't smell very nice inside. And €8.50 for an Irish coffee...

Jur works here as a waiter, and he MADE our evening last night! After experiencing a fair amount of grumpy atmosphere on the square, we had a FANTASTIC evening on "his terrace." The drinks arrived super fast, he gave great advice, and he was always so helpful to all the guests—what a gem!

Both times the staff was unfriendly. Now decided not to go anymore no matter how beautiful the place is.

Had a delicious breakfast here with a carpaccio sandwich and coffee. Didn't see or notice anything of arrogant and or unfriendly service. My experience was perfectly fine, neat. The sandwich and the dressing were very tasty by the way.

"tomato" does not mean a slice of tomato here but ketchup sauce here. Asked for ham, cheese, tomato toast but never saw ham... Waitress fed up to work apparently, not friendly at all. I definitely dont recommend this place.

Brilliant service (with a smile!) - super quick and great food. For me, it’s a must visit everytime I’m in Amsterdam - it never dissapoints! It gets very busy so there can be a small wait for a table, but for me it’s worth the wait.

Super unfriendly staff! We wanted something to eat and drink. Ordered drinks and indicated that they wanted to take a look at the lunch menu and then order. They didn't come... after asking the male waiter several times to order, they still didn't come to take our order. We paid for the drinks and left. The staff thought it was more important to have a drink and eat bickering together during lunchtime than to serve the customers.

Good treatment, there is no bad face either, even Spanish food, the bravas have a long way to go to be like those from Spain just like the nachos! But highly recommended for the portions!

We were looking for a place to fill our stomachs when we came across this brunch restaurant. The decoration is nice. We ate some very good bitterballen, a delicious wrap and a simple but effective waldkorn chicken & bacon! Everything we love. Small downside for the toilets which are very small for our taste. We had to wait, thus annoying the people next to the toilet door… The staff was moderately friendly. In any case we recommend.

I've been coming there for more than 30 years and it's always a nice place for a drink. I've never eaten there before.

We ordered 2 x burgers and the meatball sandwich. Both tasted good. However both my sons and myself have been violently ill (sick) within a few hours of eating them. We had nothing else prior so can only put it down to this.

Nice location and reasonable prices! I'd recommend it!
