You can order chips at the bar. The bar is always well-stocked, and Jur and Pat are wonderful people who have kept this beautiful place running for years. The atmosphere is always different with the variety of music on offer. The emphasis is on blues and rock and roll. Maloe Melo, Home of the Blues.

It's your real trash rock experience. You don't go here as a plan, you come here as a "what's left" kind of situation. Recently had a situation where the owner was extremely rude when we tried to smoke inside (which as you can see from other reviews it was common) and we were used to it, then suddenly he's extremely rude shouting at us to not smoke because it is not allowed and "It never was". I've even tried to talk to him twice after to explain that we're sorry we didn't know beforehand that it was not allowed anymore and tell him that he was rude and would be nice if it wasn't like that. He basically mumbled shrugged and laughed. In the middle of the non sense that he was talking he said that he got a fine for letting smoke inside. Way to own your own mistakes. I don't recommend this place. maybe the next generation of it will be nicer because the owner would someone not ignorant.

This is the best blue dive in the Netherlands. It doesn't come more authentic than this. A true pearl of the city where you see young rock rollers, punks and old Bleus boys and Stones clones coming together in a large melting pot while enjoying a good headbutt. A good time guaranteed.

As an amateur musician, I applaud the fact that there are still bars with live acts. And no matter how legendary Maloe Melo may be, I will stay away from it as long as it stinks so much of a cigar. The owner is addicted to it and believes that 'everyone should enjoy' his cigars, well

I went to the jamsession but found grumpy old men instead. Waited for a few hours for a turn but didn't get to play. I'm not coming back for that. Had a fun evening with my friends though.

A step back in time to days when live music venues were a real down and dirty experience - in a good way. Great rock n roll, blues and people just letting loose on the dance floor. Sure, the place is full of cigarette smoke, and the dancefloor sticky, but it’s all about the atmosphere. If you’re below 30 and want to see how the rest of us used to party before everything became so sanitised and boring, then thank heaven that Malo Melo still exists.

I love love love good rocks band. But allowing smoking inside is unconsiderate of 50% people of non smokers inside. Just use frozen ice for smokey vibes, mate.

For me - as a tourist - definitely the part of the "other" Amsterdam that I was looking for. Let's face it: when you come here, you don't want a "New York-Rio-Amsterdam" lounge... you want a blues bar. And that's exactly it. I thought it was good here and would love to come back. Bring cash!

The best place to enjoy the best music

No other bar lives up to the word "legendary" as much as the Maloe Melo. Iconic Amsterdam live music dive. Oldest blues bar in Amsterdam, that hosts anything from some of the best blues you'll see in Amsterdam to highly energetic garage rock and roll nights - and everything in between.

For years and years my wonderfully cozy favorite pub with live and I have only positive reactions from the neighborhood and I am from around the corner and therefore full of praise 10 with GRIFFEL!!

Very unfriendly to tourists! The old man working there seemed to be more interested in talking to the young local girls, rather than serving us. It's a shame as it did seem like a nice bar, however we did not feel welcomed at all.

Legendary bar with live music: blues, rock'n'roll and punk!

One of the best- if not only bar in Amsterdam with great live music every weekend! If you got tired of a whole day of being a tourist in Amsterdam and still want to party after midnight than go to Maloe Melo and depend on a night of the finest (Dutch and international) underground Blues, Rockabilly, Punk Rock or whatsoever what you get to offer. 2 bars, 1 club under one door. Party starts after midnight! The shots are cheap and the beer tastes better. Satisfaction gueranteed! Anthony Bourdain approved!

Great tent where you as a musician will be well received. I'm guessing it's just as much fun as a visitor.

I went there just for a few drinks and it was very disappointing. I ordered two gin and tonic, the bartender started pouring the tonic in the glass, then he just added some drops of gin and he didn't add any ice. I asked gently if he could add some ice in each glass and he just added one ice cube with his own hand. Then, when we tried the drinks and felt there wasn't enough gin (he just added some drops), I came back to the bar and I asked again gently to add more gin in the glass and he refused saying I had to pay extra for that. In summary, he didn't know how to make a proper gin and tonic and he was super rude with us. He charged 8,5€ for each drink and he didn't want to take card, just Maestro or cash. Very disappointing.

A bona fide gem! If you’re looking for an authentic music experience this is the place - cheap beer, great stage area, and all kinds of talent passing through. Jam nights are on Thursdays and always so much fun! Love this place

What an Amazing band and awesome crowd

A rock/blues cafe that has been around for ages. The atmosphere is welcoming, warm and true to their nature. Everyone is welcome here, as long as you like good music. I personally visited during one of their jam nights when everyone can join in on the music. The people are kind, and truly made me feel at home.

Cozy run down bar, that‘s how I like it. Prizes are good and the people relaxed. In the back is a room with life music for some € extra - that‘s the reason why I was there. Outside you‘ll always find someone having a smoke, so it‘s easy to meet new people too. It‘s a good place to spend some time. So why not five stars? It was too empty for my taste - maybe the weather was too good when I went there.

A bar like no other in Ámsterdam! The real deal fun is behind the back door, great music and just very unique atmosphere! (Don’t go there if you dislike smokers)

Bluescafe Maloe Melo en uitbater Jur Scherpenzeel. 80 jaar en still going strong. Legendarische plek waar veel bands zijn begonnen die later heel beroemd zijn geworden. Ook elke muziekliefhebber moer geweest zijn. Je voelt de liefde voor muziek.

Best music bar in town. The oldest and only juke joint in Amterdam. Blues, Rock, Rockabilly, Psychobilly to punk rock. It's got it all. Legendary place with legendary owner. You'll feel right at home.

War eine ganz coole Bar Session mit Live-Musik. Später war der Laden dann gut voll, aber trotzdem überschaubar und zum tanzen genug Platz gewesen. Die Preise sind hier voll in Ordnung.
