We had a fantastic dinner here at 5:45 p.m., enjoying both the vegan and regular rijsttafel. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere inside the Hyatt is beautiful. The star of the show, however, was our server, Julius. He went above and beyond to make our experience pleasurable. He carefully explained the menu, walked us through the dishes, and made sure we had plenty of sambal and atjar cucumbers to go with our rice. I also want to commend Julius for his grace. Being from the US, I made the mistake of assuming I could tip on the card machine (which I couldn't), and I didn't have cash. He was incredibly kind about the misunderstanding. If you want great Indonesian food and world-class service, ask for Julius!

A truly exceptional moment for my birthday. The welcome, the pleasant atmosphere, the delicious food, and the warm service—they even offered us two complimentary drinks when they learned of the occasion. Special mention goes to the menu, which allowed us to sample a variety of dishes, all of them flavorful. The prices were reasonable, except perhaps for the wines. I might return for my next birthday...

We ate breakfast in the dining room the first morning of our stay at the Hyatt. Our server, Joyce, made our experience even better, as she was very attentive and friendly. We also ate dinner here the night before. It was our first experience with Indonesian food and it was fantastic.

Nice place and interior but they have to pay more attention to the service. They have problems with tracking drinks’ orders. Ours were lost twice. Waiters were very polite and apologized (and my espresso was free in the end) but the level of place requires more. Food is interesting (it was our first experience of Indonesian cuisine so I can’t comment if the dishes are in line). We tried “rijsttafel” - it is a set of small dishes (meat and vegetables) with two types of rice - was tasty but be ready for spicy. The best dish of our evening was cured trout. Desserts are very nice.

Nice interior, fabulous staffs. But need some touch ups on the food. Fish was very very fishy we didnt end up finishing the dish. - would definitely not recommend. Chicken was okay.

The decor, while elegant, is unpretentious and reminds us that we're in the Hyatt hotel restaurant. We ordered and enjoyed a regular rijstafel, and it was perfectly adequate. The only slight drawback was the excessive amount of chicken skin in the Ayam Assam; everything else was simply delicious! The glass of wine (Verdejo de Rueda) was reasonably priced. The Argentinian waitress was incredibly friendly.

Good waiters! Place decorated wel. Menu says authentic food but I couldn’t get sambal. Saté options very limited. Modern food with good flavors but not authentic. For that misleading fact to me, 3 stars.

2,5 years ago me and my husband had this amazing experience at this place, lots of different dishes and displayed beautifully (see photo) Yesterday we decided to go again with three people. And we were so disappointed by the amount of food. Not only did we get less food than we had 2 years ago with only two people. The flavors were bland, and the presentation was lacking, also the costs are rediculous… I mean 1 beef sate skewer for 7 euro is criminal. Mama makan, please go back to the excellent standard you had, 2,5 years ago.

We were here for breakfast as hotel guests and Joyce made sure we had everything we needed :) I liked how there were many options for eggs and they also had different types of milks, so it's very inclusive.

The location is excellent, and the interior is nice. There were five of us, and we ordered the rijsttafel experience. The flavors were quite good, and the portions were satisfactory. However, unfortunately, neither of the two desserts we ordered was good — they didn’t even feel like proper desserts. No one at the table was happy with them. Also, the waiter’s frequent attempts to clear our plates, even while there was still food on them, weren’t very pleasant. Asking once is enough; it’s important to be more mindful about this.

Joyce served us lunch at the Hyatt Regency bar in Amsterdam and her service was terrific!! She was kind and smiling, took our order immediately and our food arrived promptly. She is the best!!!

Love this hotel. Food and service were great. All staff were professional and friendly- in particular Joyce, she greeted us with a big smile, lots of personality and plenty of hot coffee which made the experience one we’ll remember with fondness. Came in at 19:30, got our order taken from at 20:00 (no one came to us), and got our food at 20:35, an hour and 5 monitors for simple Indonesian food, don’t care how the food or the atmosphere was - this isn’t right! And now for the food, it’s no where near a top tier Indonesian style food, it has no flight, pretty simple and sometimes bland flavour. And when you consider it costs 37€ per person for their standard rijsttafel, which is so small that even after I ate a ham sandwich at 17:00 this meal wasn’t satisfactory at all, I would say to sum it all up, don’t go! (I’ll give some credit to the manager for owning up to the delay and giving us a discount after we made a fuss)

Very friendly service, a superbly pleasant and peaceful dining atmosphere. The staff were extremely accommodating and attentive. Even though the restaurant was almost fully booked, we still managed to get a great round table for five.

Despite not having a reservation, we got a table. The service was very friendly and courteous. We had a rice table for four. It was very tasty. The price was quite high at €280 for five.

Tried the Independence day menu and WOW. Amazing food, amazing vibe, amazing service. There was a live dj playing such good tunes and on top of that they are pet friendly !!! 100% would go back again !!!

A beautiful place with lovely lighting, spacious spaces, and a calm atmosphere. A refined welcome. Located on the lobby level of the Hyatt. Delicious and varied dishes. I recommend it.

I advise everyone against eating here. The staff doesn't speak Dutch and their English is very poor. This makes communication difficult and leads to ordering problems. Furthermore, you get lukewarm food on a hot plate that isn't even hot, so it quickly goes cold – hopeless! Furthermore, it's attached to the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel, so all the hotel guests are walking in and out. Screaming children run back and forth, making it impossible to sit comfortably. The restaurant staff does absolutely nothing to stop this. Add to that the fact that the prices are far too high for the quality and portions you get, and it was the biggest disappointment for us in a long time. Stay away from this restaurant!

Good food, but not authentic. A great place for convenience, but don't go there for real Indonesian food. The waiter, incidentally, forgot something several times. The decor is nice, but that's about it.

Indonesian Restaurant Mama Makan They offer the typical “Dutch” rijsttafel, many small plates with Authentic Indonesian dishes. It has a nice looking interior, modern but still with a warm vibe. The food was very nice and served in a nice way. My only remark are the drinks, they are a bit overpriced, I didn’t order wine as I really couldn’t find anything, so I took a Bintang beer for 9 euro (33cl) That being said, I will go again, the food, service and interior made up for it

Our first experience of Indonesian food, and what a start!! An excellent vegetarian Rijsttafel experience with 10 dishes and 4 sides. The highlight being the Redefine Beef Sate, which was amazing. Accompanying cocktails were also fantastic. We booked the early bird offer to bag a 15% discount on the bill.

I was served something that I didn’t order and was forced to pay for it. The dish itself was not even on the menu. The food was also pretty normal.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency and wanted to try the rice table at Mama Makan. We reserved a table for this purpose during check-in. The restaurant couldn't find our reservation. After some back and forth, we were allowed to stay anyway, as the restaurant was almost empty. They initially wanted to seat us at a table near the entrance, which we declined. Eventually, we were allowed to take a better table in the restaurant. The service was friendly but barely noticeable. Other than greeting us, taking our order, and paying, there was no interaction. The food itself was OK, but not a highlight. The dishes were primarily spicy, but hardly flavorful. I was expecting more flavor here. You can try, but it's not a must.

The flavors of the dishes were excellent, but the atmosphere was businesslike and cold. The food arrived in 5 minutes, leaving absolutely no time to enjoy a drink first. Unfortunately, everything was lukewarm, which is supposed to be hot. Considering the price, I wouldn't recommend it. It's expensive, and the quality isn't worth it. Drinks are also very expensive: 6.50 for a 25cl Heineken is absurdly high. Conclusion: despite everything looking great, it's not worth the money.

Such a wonderful experience we had at Mama Makan. My friends and I, students, couldn’t afford enough menus and the maitre d’hotel offered us 10% off the total. Not to mention the cuisine was delicious as the staff was very helpful and caring.

A really beautifully decorated restaurant, with friendly service. The three courses are recommended, a starter and dessert for yourself and the rice table is delicious to share. The vegan menu was also good! Will definitely eat here again.

The food was a bit disappointing. As connoisseurs of Indonesian cuisine, we found the flavours not authentic. We also found the rice table meagre. Mini bowls with tapas-like portions. Nasi too dry. We really found it far too little. Cocktails tasty but overpriced and really too small. Everything was own minimum.

The dishes were very good, we found the flavors like in Indonesia. The sauces were perhaps a little too concentrated at times, but that's a matter of taste. The meal was hearty, the place was quiet and pleasant and the staff was very accommodating. It was a very nice discovery.

Cannot use another word to describe the waiter other than stupid. He explained the set menu, said 3 sets were enough for us 4 adults. We ordered that and some starters to share. He said should everything come together, we said yes. Then an hour later when we asked, he said he thought we only wanted the 2 starters for 4 adults, and then said we explicitly asked for that. Had to wait another half hour for the food, 1h40 minutes after we arrived. Food was not even hot, finished and got out of there. Not worth the price nor the wait. We chose the hotel restaurant so that pur 4 yr old could get to bed, worst decision this trip.

If you are looking for a place to fully sample and experience Indonesian cuisine, this is the right place. Excellent ambience and polite, attentive service complete the picture with tasty rice plates!

This is a highly overrated rice table place. Very few option menu, poorly spiced and flavored food. Served cold. Not in the least impressed. Our food was served immediately after we sat down , talking 3 minutes and it was lukewarm at best. By the time we tried the 3rd item it was cold. We were given a table and menu promptly. Our cocktails which were in fact good were served after the food was put in front of us. I should have said something but as an American traveler I really don’t want to feed the stereotype of us being difficult. It was over 100$ euros for 2 people, definitely not worth it. The waitress took my card as it wasn’t tapping in and asked euros or dollars, I said euros she replied”oops” and charged in dollars to which the restaurant adds additional 3.5% conversion fee. Hyatt should do better for their clients. Because of this poor experience we did not try the breakfast but at 30 euros per person I thought it was pricey.

Fijn restaurant. Goede ruime ambiance, prettige bediening, maar vooral… heerlijk vegan eten: heel smakelijk, heel gevarieerd, mooi opgediend.

The food was tasty, the service was very friendly with some friendly jokes and very attentive and on time. We were a mid size group on a Thursday. However do not expect real authentic Indonesian food or you will be disappointed. It is the Dutch interpretation of Indonesian food but performed well. For me not being Dutch it was just Dutch food (I see the Indonesian part from their colonial time as integral part of Dutch kitchen even though I know the traditional Dutch food is something very different) mingled with some Thai influence. And for this I need to admit that it was HEAVILY overpriced (we had a group package and when I looked at the standard menu I just thought it would have been way cheaper to just order from the menu). However we had a nice evening and the service was on point so 4 stars but definitely no 5. If you pay like close to 1000€ you could expect some of "the extra mile". And why is it 3 stars? Because of the let's call them "head of service". Yes I'm talking about the guys in the black uniforms talking a lot, trying to present themselves as competent or funny (both is not the case) but in fact just trying to sell you non-sense as gold. Please if you want to be an expert then spend the time and get to know at least the basics of Indonesia and it's kitchen. And there is a golden rule in service: You never ever bragg about guests when they can see you. But these guys are too cool to follow rules. Too bad. This destroyed the good performance of the service doing the actual work. I hope their management reads this and teaches them to be humble

We chose the rijst tafel arrangement. We got many dishes and everything tasted great! We couldn't finish everything and wanted to take the leftover home. They actually put each dish in a separate container for us! The service was very good as well.

Día de San Valentín. Fue una sorpresa de menú fijo sin opciones a la carta. La comida es excelente. El servicio fue horrible. La comida se retrasó, luego trajeron la mesa de arroz equivocada (carne no vegetal) , luego no despejaron platos, el desierto fue lento, así como el pago de la cuenta. Podríamos haberlo excusado para la noche ocupada, pero la mesa de al lado tenía bebidas gratis proporcionadas para un servicio lento, platos despejados rápidamente, y el desierto inmediatamente (antes de nosotros - habíamos estado allí más tiempo). Pero la comida era muy buena.

Colazione eccellente e ristorante indonesiano ottimo. E' stata un'esperienza incantevole. Se tornerò ad Amsterdam senza dubbio soggiornerò nuovamente qui!

Location meravigliosa, curata in ogni suo dettaglio. Si percepisce di stare in hotel di lusso. Il personale molto accogliente, gentilissimo e sempre pronto a soddisfare ogni esigenza. Per i nostri bambino hanno preparato piatti fuori menù senza alcun tipo di problemi. Il cibo ottimo, ben cucinato e di gran qualità. Abbiamo fatto una degustazione di svariati piatti tipico ed è stata un’esperienza culinaria eccellente. Complimenti a tutto lo staff, dalla cucina alla sala. We opted for the Indonesian Rijsttafel for two, and it was absolutely magnificent. Every dish was bursting with flavor and beautifully prepared. Before dinner, we enjoyed some delicious drinks at the bar, setting the tone for an amazing evening. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff truly went above and beyond. A special shoutout to Pedro, who made our night extra special with his kindness, expertise, and superb service. Mama Makan is a must-visit for anyone who loves great food and exceptional hospitality. We had a delicious Indonesian meal here. This was a taster from a friend of mine before I went to Bali. The food was delicious with lots of variety. The satay was also very tasty. Friendly service! We will definitely come back here one day

Our experience started with a problem with the reservation. They did not have it on the list. It was new years eve and I've booked it 2 months in advance and confirmed a day before. But they still had an open table, so we managed to sit down. The menu was fixed at 110 euros per person with a choice of a starter and a drink. The service was OK, however we asked several times for tap water for the table, when they finally brought it it was 15 euros per bottle and lasted for 4 glasses. We didn't know any better so we went with it. Turned out they also had free tap water carafes, they just decided they can ballon the price. That practice is popular in restaurants, it does not make it any better or less rude. After that came the food. It was OK. It came really late, but it was a taster menu of 13 things, so it is to be expected. The dishes were very oily. A lot of them came already cold, even tho they should have been served hot, like for example the stew. Two of the 13 things was rice, one plain one fried. Between four people it disappeared almost immediately as it was served in tiny bowls like the rest of the selection. We finished about 50-60% of the food. I cannot say it wasn't tasty, some of it was quite nice, but it definitely was much less appealing cold than it would have been hot. It was the evening of new years eve, so the staff was pushing us to finish quickly and move to the crowded bar. Overall, we spend just over 500 euros and left quite unsatisfied. Maybe they would have been better on a regular evening? But then again, looking at all the other reviews, they say pretty much the same things regardless of the time of the year... If you're looking to spend a lof of money and have a mediocre experience, this is the place for you.

Delicious food, service is not commensurate with the prices! For example, our dessert was forgotten after a 40-minute wait and we asked again and it was there in 5 minutes. They also made us sit for a long time with an empty table. (Although we sat in the middle of the round table directly opposite the kitchen with 6 people). Clearing the table on time and offering your guests the dessert menu and waiting less long would make a big difference. . I also think the deposit of 150 euros for 6 people is a bit crazy for a reservation. So let's connect the dots!

The breakfast buffet here has quite a bit of variety of hot food and pastries, and all were cooked well, but it did get old pretty quickly. There’s also a small menu you can order made to order items, like a benedict or omelette. Most of the items on the buffet are pretty typical breakfast fare, but I would’ve loved to see more Indonesian dishes available too.

Mama Makan has a nice atmosphere with an open kitchen and a large bar. The dishes look neat and the portions are generous. Unfortunately, both the rice and satay were cold on both the first and second orders. The lack of warming plates and the waiting meant that the hot dishes also cooled down quickly. The service is attentive, but the inconvenience of the cold food was not compensated.

I enjoyed a great selection of small dishes that are perfect for sharing among everyone at the table. There’s also a tasty vegan option available. While the food was delicious, not every dish was at a five-star level, so I’m giving it a solid four stars.

Mama Makan was truly the best meal we experienced on our trip to Amsterdam -- and that's saying something because we enjoyed some fantastic food there! However what truly made our dinner a highlight was the tremendous service we received from our servers Inigo and Elvira. They took such great care of us -- recommending incredible cocktails, dishes, helping us determine how much to order for our group size, and just making the entire dinner a lovely time, perfectly paced and full of warmth and laughter. They even introduced us to a fantastic Dutch/Indonesian liqueur we'd never tried before called Sayah which was a big crowd pleaser with our group and perfect send off for the evening. Such attentive service and personalized recommendations from Inigo & Elvira taking us through the delicious parade of dishes Mama Makan is famous for made this meal a highlight of our vacation. Solid Rijstaffel. Me gusta mucho la selección de carnes (cordero, ternera, pollo). Bonito interior, buen servicio. Me gustó mucho la cena porque no fue abrumadora, solo la cantidad correcta de comida para dos. ¡El café con cafeína al final fue genial!... ¡es difícil encontrar descafeína en Amsterdam!
