What can I say, this is not Indonesian cuisine If you’re looking for authentic Indonesian food, then this is definitely not it. The food tasted decent, but there was no saté sauce, for example. The food could also be a bit spicier, in our opinion. The service was really nice, though. Also, the restaurant is very pretty. But again, there are better Indonesian restaurants in the city if you’re looking for more authentic or closer to authentic Indonesian food.

Joyce was the best! She was an amazing host and the food was very fresh and delicious, perfect for a summer lunch. Thank you Joyce for a great afternoon!

Lovely place for a rijsttafel with international scientists.

This was our first time in Mama Makan & we loved it! Since the moment we stepped in. Woojin welcomed us with a big smile, we loved meeting him. He suggested amazing cocktails and he took excellent care of us. The food is super tasty and the plates are very delicate. We got everything to share on the middle so we could try more things. The scallop salad is a 10! Woojin also recommended wine pairing with the meal :) If you live in Amsterdam or are visiting you should pass by as the level of service is difficult to find in the city! We will come back for sure - Thank You!!

Beautiful, spacious restaurant with plenty of seating and outstanding atmosphere. Elegantly decorated, well staffed, and most importantly, delicious Indonesian cuisine. We made a reservation for a late evening dinner. While not required, a reservation helps the wait staff and chefs with all the prep work required to deliver a delicious meal. Excellent beer and wine selections. Located adjacent to the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam reception center. Thank you!

The Mama Makan restaurant at the Hyatt Regency was very nice. The buffet breakfast has everything you could want! The staff, and our server, Yenny, took very good care of us!

A delightful experience at this beautiful Indonesian restaurant in the Hyatt Hotel. Don't hesitate to try the tasting menu, which features a variety of delicious small dishes. The spices are very subtle and the portions are more than generous.

We had the vegan rijsttafel, a delicious combination of flavors. The service is excellent; we were regularly asked if everything was to our liking and requests are more than welcome, and a special dessert with a candle was spontaneously brought for my wife's birthday 🩷

Not good. Especially regarding the price/quality ratio. Too overrated. The proportions and price are also all wrong. A huge disappointment. I saw a cook plating dishes without wearing hygienic gloves, but with a blue bandage on his finger while sprucing up the dish. That fiddling. A bit gross. No, definitely not worth repeating.

I've had breakfast here for the last 5 days. The food is plentiful (a buffet with table service upon request), the options range from traditional to Indonesian vegan options like rice, salad and veggies. No one can leave here hungry! But the service is even better. From the warm greeting asI walked in the door to the table service, everything makes me feel like a valued customer. Jenny was our server 4 of the five days and we couldn't have been happier. My husband like his coffee a special way and after day 1 she anticipated his needs and had it ready for him just after we sat down. I had a cold and she made sure I had lemon and honey to soothe my cough. Overall it was An amazing experience and made better by Jenny's thoughtful attention. We are headed to our next destination tomorrow but hopefully we will be back!

Variety of food & excellent place to stay

Simply the BEST meal I have ever had! We had the rijsttafel with half our party choosing the vegan menu and the other half having the meat. We couldn't find a single fault with any of the dishes, the portion sizes were ideal and you could ask for more rice free of charge if you needed more. Extensive drinks menu with really interesting cocktails. Very reasonably priced when you consider the quality and deliciousness of the food. Nice desserts too!

A truly unique experience. Superb food with excellent wine pairings and outstanding service. The tasting menu was superb, both the meat and vegetarian options. The wines were perfectly matched, and the service, especially from Lee, was top-notch. The ambiance is also incredibly elegant; we'd love to come back.

Had an amazing dining experience at Mama Makan during our stay at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam. The food was the real highlight — Indonesian cuisine with such unique, bold flavors. Every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and different from the usual, from the rich curries to the perfectly grilled skewers. Even the desserts were creative and beautifully presented. The service was equally impressive — warm, friendly, and attentive without being over the top. They made us feel comfortable throughout, and were great with recommendations as well. The ambiance adds to the experience too — a modern, stylish space with a relaxed vibe that works really well for both families and a nice dinner out. Overall, a fantastic spot if you’re looking to try something different and flavorful in Amsterdam. Highly recommend.

We expected more from this restaurant. Perhaps our expectations were too high, but there are (certainly for these prices) much better places to eat Indonesian food. The service is very good and friendly, but the advertised rijsttafel is meager and far from comparable to a real Indonesian rijsttafel. The “fusion” has gone a bit overboard here. Furthermore, it really feels like a hotel restaurant (which, of course, is technically what it is). It could have been better, and we had expected much better. A mediocre pass.

Joyce is a joy. She is a very hard worker and makes sure the customer is happy. She never stands still.

We dined at this restaurant on two consecutive days during our stay. On both visits, we found the food to be very enjoyable and the ambience to be warm and inviting—clearly a place with strong culinary potential. After our first visit, we shared a review noting that while we appreciated the quality of the food and setting, the service felt slower than expected. When we returned the following day, the manager approached us shortly after we were seated and referenced our review. Unfortunately, the interaction felt more confrontational than constructive. Rather than inviting open feedback, the conversation came across as defensive, emphasizing the time required to prepare dishes and creating an uncomfortable atmosphere at the start of our meal. Given that the restaurant is part of an international hotel setting, where guests arrive with a wide range of cultural expectations and dining experiences, a more open and understanding approach to feedback would have made a meaningful difference. Constructive dialogue could have turned the situation into a positive exchange. To the manager’s credit, service was noticeably expedited afterward, and we do appreciate that effort. However, the initial interaction left a lasting impression that overshadowed the rest of the experience. While the food and ambience remain strong points, the way feedback was handled made this visit disappointing overall. Regrettably, it is not a place we would choose to return to.

Beautiful place! The food was ok (we had the rice feast, rijstaffel), but my 2 cocktails were terrible (the naked p*rn star and the cold killer).

We ate here twice while staying in the Hyatt Regency hotel. First time was great, we had the 'set menu' of Indonesian food which we thoroughly enjoyed. Second time we went a-la-carte, which was not quite as good but still enjoyable. Early Bird worked for us too.

Fantastic meal! After visiting Indonesia and rarely being able to find the food back home, this was a treat. I ordered the Rijsttafel which had incredible variety. My favorite items were the vegan ones though the chicken was very moist and nice too. Service was very courteous but a bit slow, particularly the bar, but I saw everyone working very hard so I wonder if staffing was an issue.

Fantastic food to complement a great evening with the family. The rendang is very tender and tasty. The roasted eggplant is second to none.

We received excellent service, everything was professional, and the staff was very friendly. We had the hotel breakfast, which was served in the restaurant. The selection was huge, and the quality of the food was excellent. We were very well looked after by the incredibly friendly server, Joyce; she was always attentive but never intrusive.

A cozy restaurant with overpowering music that's inappropriate for an Indonesian restaurant. Cutlery was provided, usually a knife and fork, while in Indonesia, you eat with a spoon. The rice table had very few dishes, except for the rice and meat if you wanted to share. These dishes came in small bowls, which you had to scoop with teaspoons. We ordered a rice table and the four types of satay, so sharing was quite difficult. The four types of satay were served plain, without items like atjar ketimun and lontong. The service was very present and attentive. Tipping via debit card is too pushy and coercive, and there's no option to waive a tip on the menu.

I love this Hyatt Regency here in Amsterdam. The location is perfect, and EVERY single employee that I’ve interacted with goes above and beyond, from the reception desk, to the staff in the restaurants. Joyce was absolutely delightful in the early morning as we were eating breakfast on our last morning prior to checkout. This is my second stay here and is my recommendation for best place to stay in Amsterdam. Will definitely be back!

We were very regular, steady costumers at mama makan, for many years. But after tonight not anymore. We are used to a big vegan rice table. And usually when the menu was the vegan rice table it was already overpriced. But today we had to pay the same amount of money as for the vegan rice table (which is a lot of food). But this time it was very little food!!! This time it was letterly one slice of eggplant(with the green still on it!), one quarter of cabbage, and a 5 bite veggie starter, and a small desert to share. All for €140,-!!! Absolutely rude and cheap towards costumers. The food tasted nice but not michelin star quality food. It was so little food for so much money with lots of waiting in between, really took away the romantic valentine atmosphere we booked for. The staff was not the problem, they were kind, and they found a more quite table for us (our original place was under a very loud music box because they had a dj playing, but we couldn't hear each other on the small table. The waitress made sure we got a better place which was perfect, she was kind). And the waiter who brought the bill, where we shared our thoughts with about the experience, was kind. He couldn't do much. But he made sure we got the €19,- early booking discount back. (A discount , we found out yesterday, is there already for years. We never received the discount in all those years!!!) to try to 'solve the problem ' within his possibilies. So I send this review in an e-mail to the restaurant before placing a review online so someone with more influence could make it right in private. Because we felt absolutely robbed. I used to handle complaines from costumers in a hotel/restaurant. Usually you give them back the full amount of money. The response I received in addition to my email. from the person who is behind the pricing etc. Let me know he was 'sincerely sorry' but thought the €19,- 'discount' we got was enough to show 'how sorry' they are. Since they are not willing to come with real costumer service I am sharing my experience here. In total it was not even 1 plate full with food!!! For €140,-!!! Just average, cheap ingredients food. In this mail he mentioned they went in a different direction with their restaurant for an 'exclusive experience and food that's nowhere in Amsterdam'. But this information is absolutely wrong! This food is available in different places in Amsterdam. In other places the same food we got (but bigger portions), costs in total €35,- for two people combined instead of €140,-!!!! Ánd they have faster service! The waiter in the restaurant totally understood why we were upsaid. He mentioned he wanted the give us more food, but wasn't allowed tot. The man in the e-mail mentioned Mama Makan wants to give an exclusive experience, but it isn't!!!! It's Michelin star prices for average, cheap ingredients food!!!! The meat version of Valentine's day menu was with oysters and kaviar but our vegan menu was just a quarter of cale, not even half an aubergine and some rests of veggies. We were still hungry after we left. We felt totally robbed and frustrated that this was our time together on Valentine's day. We both took off to have free time together. The staff was kind, but since they want to give the michelin star experience. The staff is nice but not on a level for a restaurant they claim to be. None of them speak Dutch. A lot of time in between they don't notice it if you want to order something, so we didn't order cocktails due to that situation. They were all available (we were early) but only noticing two tables with business men. Which didn't want to order anything. Also the 'copy-paste' response (in every response of them on the online negative reviews they give 90% same response) they emailed me, is just imbarrasing. In the past I handled complaines like this in restaurant/hotel. Usually in this situation you give costumers back the full amount of money. This is just extremely cheap, rude behavior and thinking of fast money instead of long term steady money.

We went to this Resturant based on our tour guide Roman from our earlier food tour and boy was he right. The food was excellent. Different flavors and texture and vibrant spices. What more can you ask for. Afterwards we took a walk on the canal.

10/10 An Unforgettable Experience Thanks to Joyce at Mama Makan I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam last week with friends to celebrate my birthday, and I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about my experience - especially thanks to Joyce at Mama Makan. We met Joyce while she was working the bar and instantly connected. We chatted about where we were from - us visiting from Denver, CO, and Joyce originally from Kenya - and from that moment on, she made us feel incredibly welcome. Joyce is an absolutely wonderful human being: warm, genuine, attentive, and full of positive energy. Her hospitality went far beyond what was expected. After learning that we were in Amsterdam to celebrate my birthday, Joyce went out of her way to let her manager know. The morning of my birthday at breakfast, I was completely surprised when Joyce and her manager brought over a beautiful pancake/pastry-styled dessert topped with berries and whipped cream (and sparklers), and started singing "Happy Birthday " to me, with the entire restaurant taking time to join in. It was such a thoughtful and touching gesture, and it truly made me feel special. Joyce did not have to do this - and that's what made it even more meaningful. You could tell she genuinely cares about people and takes pride in creating memorable experiences for guests. I regret not catching her manager's name , because he was equally as personable, kind, and accommodating. My time in Amsterdam was amazing, and Joyce, along with the incredible staff at the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam - played a huge role in making it so memorable. I highly recommend the Hyatt Regency Amsterdam and Mama Makan to anyone planning a visit. Exceptional service, heartfelt hospitality, and unforgettable moments. Thank you, Joyce! An Authentic Indonesian Gem in the Heart of Amsterdam! If you are looking for an exceptional Indonesian dining experience in Amsterdam, Mama Makan is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you walk in, the lush, botanical-inspired decor and the warm, welcoming staff transport you straight to Southeast Asia. The food, however, is the true star of the show. We started with the Sate Selection, which was the perfect introduction to the kitchen's skill. The chicken thigh was incredibly succulent, and the beef was grilled to perfection. I was particularly impressed by the vegetarian options—the oyster mushroom and tofu sates were packed with smoky flavour and had a wonderful texture that even the meat-eaters at our table loved. For the mains, the Spatchcocked Baby Chicken was a standout. The infusion of lemongrass and kaffir lime gave it a bright, aromatic punch, and the chicken itself was remarkably tender. It was served with garlic string beans that had just the right amount of snap. We also shared the Whole Sea Bream, and it was spectacular. The fish was perfectly cooked, but the woku bumbu and green sambal were the real highlights—bold, spicy, and authentic. The accompanying atjar provided a refreshing, tangy crunch that balanced the richness of the spices beautifully. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and the cocktails paired perfectly with the bold flavours of the meal. We had a fantastic dinner here at 5:45 p.m., enjoying both the vegan and regular rijsttafel. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere inside the Hyatt is beautiful. The star of the show, however, was our server, Julius. He went above and beyond to make our experience pleasurable. He carefully explained the menu, walked us through the dishes, and made sure we had plenty of sambal and atjar cucumbers to go with our rice. I also want to commend Julius for his grace. Being from the US, I made the mistake of assuming I could tip on the card machine (which I couldn't), and I didn't have cash. He was incredibly kind about the misunderstanding. If you want great Indonesian food and world-class service, ask for Julius!

A truly exceptional moment for my birthday. The welcome, the pleasant atmosphere, the delicious food, and the warm service—they even offered us two complimentary drinks when they learned of the occasion. Special mention goes to the menu, which allowed us to sample a variety of dishes, all of them flavorful. The prices were reasonable, except perhaps for the wines. I might return for my next birthday...

We ate breakfast in the dining room the first morning of our stay at the Hyatt. Our server, Joyce, made our experience even better, as she was very attentive and friendly. We also ate dinner here the night before. It was our first experience with Indonesian food and it was fantastic.

Nice place and interior but they have to pay more attention to the service. They have problems with tracking drinks’ orders. Ours were lost twice. Waiters were very polite and apologized (and my espresso was free in the end) but the level of place requires more. Food is interesting (it was our first experience of Indonesian cuisine so I can’t comment if the dishes are in line). We tried “rijsttafel” - it is a set of small dishes (meat and vegetables) with two types of rice - was tasty but be ready for spicy. The best dish of our evening was cured trout. Desserts are very nice.

Nice interior, fabulous staffs. But need some touch ups on the food. Fish was very very fishy we didnt end up finishing the dish. - would definitely not recommend. Chicken was okay.

The decor, while elegant, is unpretentious and reminds us that we're in the Hyatt hotel restaurant. We ordered and enjoyed a regular rijstafel, and it was perfectly adequate. The only slight drawback was the excessive amount of chicken skin in the Ayam Assam; everything else was simply delicious! The glass of wine (Verdejo de Rueda) was reasonably priced. The Argentinian waitress was incredibly friendly.

Joyce was my main contact and she was very attentive and friendly. A pleasure to see everyday during my stay! Even when I have an issue with my room she was amazing with contacting someone to assist! 2,5 years ago me and my husband had this amazing experience at this place, lots of different dishes and displayed beautifully (see photo) Yesterday we decided to go again with three people. And we were so disappointed by the amount of food. Not only did we get less food than we had 2 years ago with only two people. The flavors were bland, and the presentation was lacking, also the costs are rediculous… I mean 1 beef sate skewer for 7 euro is criminal. Mama makan, please go back to the excellent standard you had, 2,5 years ago.

We were here for breakfast as hotel guests and Joyce made sure we had everything we needed :) I liked how there were many options for eggs and they also had different types of milks, so it's very inclusive.

It’s a lovely experience staying at Hyatt Regency Amsterdam and their breakfast option is excellent with accommodating staff.

The location is excellent, and the interior is nice. There were five of us, and we ordered the rijsttafel experience. The flavors were quite good, and the portions were satisfactory. However, unfortunately, neither of the two desserts we ordered was good — they didn’t even feel like proper desserts. No one at the table was happy with them. Also, the waiter’s frequent attempts to clear our plates, even while there was still food on them, weren’t very pleasant. Asking once is enough; it’s important to be more mindful about this.

Came in at 19:30, got our order taken from at 20:00 (no one came to us), and got our food at 20:35, an hour and 5 monitors for simple Indonesian food, don’t care how the food or the atmosphere was - this isn’t right! And now for the food, it’s no where near a top tier Indonesian style food, it has no flight, pretty simple and sometimes bland flavour. And when you consider it costs 37€ per person for their standard rijsttafel, which is so small that even after I ate a ham sandwich at 17:00 this meal wasn’t satisfactory at all, I would say to sum it all up, don’t go! (I’ll give some credit to the manager for owning up to the delay and giving us a discount after we made a fuss)

Despite not having a reservation, we got a table. The service was very friendly and courteous. We had a rice table for four. It was very tasty. The price was quite high at €280 for five.

Very friendly service, a superbly pleasant and peaceful dining atmosphere. The staff were extremely accommodating and attentive. Even though the restaurant was almost fully booked, we still managed to get a great round table for five.

Tried the Independence day menu and WOW. Amazing food, amazing vibe, amazing service. There was a live dj playing such good tunes and on top of that they are pet friendly !!! 100% would go back again !!!

A beautiful place with lovely lighting, spacious spaces, and a calm atmosphere. A refined welcome. Located on the lobby level of the Hyatt. Delicious and varied dishes. I recommend it.

I advise everyone against eating here. The staff doesn't speak Dutch and their English is very poor. This makes communication difficult and leads to ordering problems. Furthermore, you get lukewarm food on a hot plate that isn't even hot, so it quickly goes cold – hopeless! Furthermore, it's attached to the lobby of the Hyatt Hotel, so all the hotel guests are walking in and out. Screaming children run back and forth, making it impossible to sit comfortably. The restaurant staff does absolutely nothing to stop this. Add to that the fact that the prices are far too high for the quality and portions you get, and it was the biggest disappointment for us in a long time. Stay away from this restaurant!

Good food, but not authentic. A great place for convenience, but don't go there for real Indonesian food. The waiter, incidentally, forgot something several times. The decor is nice, but that's about it.

Indonesian Restaurant Mama Makan They offer the typical “Dutch” rijsttafel, many small plates with Authentic Indonesian dishes. It has a nice looking interior, modern but still with a warm vibe. The food was very nice and served in a nice way. My only remark are the drinks, they are a bit overpriced, I didn’t order wine as I really couldn’t find anything, so I took a Bintang beer for 9 euro (33cl) That being said, I will go again, the food, service and interior made up for it

Our first experience of Indonesian food, and what a start!! An excellent vegetarian Rijsttafel experience with 10 dishes and 4 sides. The highlight being the Redefine Beef Sate, which was amazing. Accompanying cocktails were also fantastic. We booked the early bird offer to bag a 15% discount on the bill.

I was served something that I didn’t order and was forced to pay for it. The dish itself was not even on the menu. The food was also pretty normal.
