Michiu in Scheldebuurt

I've been coming here for a while now, the food is still delicious, although some favorite dishes have been removed from the menu and have become a bit more expensive, which is logical because groceries are also more expensive. You can always bring back the hot towel, otherwise it's great! 👌

We had a 19:45 reservation and opted for the six-course menu. Although the food was tasty, the service was unacceptably slow. We received almost no updates on the delays, and the main course wasn’t served until 22:15, even though the restaurant closes at 22:30. We were initially seated at a table for two, but at one point a waitress asked us to move to another table. When we politely declined, she added an extra table beside ours and started rearranging items rather mechanically, ultimately leaving the cutlery and table setup in a disorganized state. Overall, when a restaurant charges well above average prices and claims to deliver an exceptional experience, it should invest equally in quality service not just good food. It’s unfortunate that poor service ended up overshadowing the entire evening.

I came here for dinner last Saturday, but unfortunately, the experience was far from pleasant. Upon arrival, we were immediately told we had a 105-minute slot. That's not a problem in itself, but from the very first moment, we felt like we were constantly being rushed. The food arrived so quickly that we could barely relax. Our plates were even taken away while we were still eating—something that's absolutely unacceptable. Furthermore, the bill was just dropped on the table without us even asking. This felt very awkward, as if we had to leave as quickly as possible. In short: unfortunately, we didn't have a relaxing evening at all, and certainly not an experience worth repeating.

From the moment we walked in until we left, it was a real treat. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Highly recommended.

We had high hopes, but after being seated, it took about fifteen minutes before anyone came to ask if we'd like a drink. This service, unfortunately, continued right up until the last course. The food was truly exceptional, but this was unfortunately overshadowed by the unnecessarily slow service.

This was absolutely one of the best Japanese and Asian fusion dinners we had in Amsterdam. The restaurant is intimate and elegant, service is top-notch but nothing can beat the quality of the food you will be served here. The presentation of the food is gorgeous. Each dish came our way like treasure. I highly recommend you get the sashimi, nigiri, avocado salad, peeking duck and wagyu that comes straight from Japan. Oh and omg the dumplings are the best you will ever ever ever have.

What a gem of a restaurant! Excellent food, we enjoyed a truly delicious six-course dinner, and the wines were lovely—in short, a must! The staff is also very friendly and helpful. A real treat to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy this beautiful restaurant.

In general was a good dinner. But kitchen made twice different mistakes with the same dish: first time wrong sauce (we ordered spicy and got sweet sour), second time wrong ingredient (we ordered fish and got gamba’s). In the end we only can accept it and nothing has been compensated.

We had good expectations, but unfortunately they weren't met. We had the 6 course menu and food was just ok. Sushi was tasty as an appetizer, but the main course was a simple rice + beef, definitely not worth the $80 for the whole menu. But what really made this a bad experience was how far apart each course was served. We spent 3h (three hours!) there, since each dish took 25, 30mins to be served. And they were bite-size each, so we'd be done in 3mins. Certainly not pleasant, we were sitting around waiting for food 95% of the time.

Great all you can eat sushi restaurant! We came as a couple and some thoughts are : The sushi is great , food size is amazing . The rice tastes wonderful. Bit shame that a bottle of water costs around 7€ but the food compensates it. BTW for those who wants desserts the restaurant doesn’t have a large verity of desserts so maybe a stroopwafel will be your choice😉 You have two choices : 1. All you can eat - per person All you can eat + drinks I give the place 4 stars out of 5 .

The food and service are good. However, the wait for the dishes with multiple courses (3.5 hours for 6 courses) is very long.

Where do I begin? BEST SUSHI in Amsterdam by far. Friendly staff and excellent food. Not only is the sushi delicious, but so is everything else. 10 out of 10. Definitely recommended. Definitely one of the top restaurants in Amsterdam.

We had a 4-course menu, all courses were delicious and elegantly served, only the last course (ice cream) was a cheap scoop of ice cream with whipped cream... they could have done better with a variation with fruit, chocolate and nuts. Match it a bit with the other dishes.

Respecting the customer is the most important thing in the restaurant business and in life in general. The Asian server is truly the most unprofessional person we've ever seen. Why? He was disrespectful after making a mistake when ordering a non-alcoholic cocktail, which arrived with alcohol, and then daring to say, "I'm not at your disposal, drink it with alcohol." I would urge everyone to never set foot there. Bye

The food was really very good, with well-presented dishes and carefully crafted flavors. However, the pacing of the service was excessively slow: there was easily a 30-minute wait between each course. In the end, we spent almost three hours at the restaurant for a six-course menu. It could have been an excellent dining experience, but the long waiting times made it feel overly drawn-out, that’s why 4 stars and not 5.

This was our go to place for a nice evening of Japanese food. Unfortunately, after the renovation, the menu changed, so there is virtually nothing vegetarian to eat anymore. You also pay too much money for what you can eat. Wine was tasty, and the appearance greatly improved after the renovation. Too bad, we loved coming there, but for me it was the last time.

This is one of the most expensive sushi places in Amsterdam. Which seems funny because neither the taste of the food neither the interior or the music compensate the ridiculous prices. 8 pieces of sushi (which is a standard size of roll everywhere) cost here 28 euro! I go to very fantastic sushi places in Amsterdam and maximum price for a roll is 14/15 euro, so half of the price you pay here. And trust me - there are amazing Japanese sushi places where the sushi is fresh and taste much better. Here they want their sushi to look „fancy” with all the additions and colours, but the true is that you can’t taste the fish or the rice because the amount of fried elements, additional sauces/ spices kills the overall taste and makes everything taste the same- more like fastfood, not like something sublime. And the price is just ridiculous. Completely not worth the money. I can belive anyone would like to eat here if there are places in amsterdam where sushi is much much better if it comes to quality and taste and prices much more reasonable. This place is a joke.. i will never come again.

Dit restaurant is na 9 maanden verbouwen onlangs weer geopend. Wat een fantastische plek is dit. De sfeer, het personeel en vooral het eten waren fantastisch. Dit is Sushi eten next level, alles was even lekker en mooi uitgeserveerd. Dit is zeker geen afhaal sushi restaurant en is ook qua prijs daar niet mee te vergelijken, maar absoluut een aanrader als je hier van houd

recently opened again after 9 months. had a fantastic evening with next level Sushi. This is an indescribably wonderful experience if you like real sushi. Service and atmosphere are excellent.

So nice to see and speak to chef Kelvin again. My favorite chef!! Unfortunately, the music did not match the atmosphere, the food and my hearing problems. So when the terrace is open again, I will definitely come and visit Kelvin again!!

We had a delicious meal at Michiu, we went for the tasting menu. Nice staff with a professional appearance. The interior is also beautiful and goes well with the atmosphere. Cheers!

Michiu is open again after a thorough renovation. With a new zest and… a DJ. The music is loud and it is difficult to have a conversation. My eldest daughter described the atmosphere as 'budget Dubai'. What is sad is that you see the extremely friendly staff working and running very hard, but they do little effectively. After 5 minutes we received the menus. But only after fifteen minutes were we able to order drinks. We then ordered the food later from someone else. In total we had to wait 1.5 hours for the last two dishes. By then the rest of the party had long since finished. No one comes to tell you that the food is coming or is delayed. No one comes to ask if you want something to drink. While there are 6 waiters working for a maximum of 18 tables. Shame. The food was still tasty. Duration. But tasty. And that DJ? Come on, it's the Maasstraat.

Very good restaurant with great service and excellent atmosphere.

After a few months (due to renovation of Michiu) we drove from Utrecht to Amsterdam again for delicious sushi. My friend is/was a big fan and regularly drove up and down to enjoy it, especially for this sushi. He always orders the same, fixed “recipe”, I don't eat it. When I got home, according to my friend, some sushi already tasted different than before. That is of course possible, because there may now be another kitchen brigade. 2.5-3 hours later he suddenly felt incredibly bad. The result was severe food poisoning with associated symptoms. Tried to contact Michiu by email first, but no response.

It's a very good restaurant!! The service is absolutely fantastic, just like the food!! We had the fish dishes and it was an astonishing amazing diner. Glad it's opened again after nine months 😄

They are only open again after months of renovation, I was there last Friday evening with my family, Nice guys in the service but everything took a very long time, after an hour of sitting we still had no food on the table and when we finally got the food it was also SUPER BAD The owner also had the courage to ask me and my family if we could sit differently because there was a regular customer who insisted on sitting where we were... well they will never have any trouble with us again... what a time. and this was a waste of money...for the first time in my life I saw children complaining about bad sushi...everything was tasteless...salads were unwashed There wasn't one dish that I could say was tasty, I wouldn't even eat here for free

Was altijd een prima restaurant. Echter kregen wij vanavond de helft van onze bestelling niet! Aangegeven dat we niet erg veel tijd hadden. Maar na 1,5 uur nog de eerste bestel ronde niet compleet. Dit stond echter wel op de bon. De dame hierop gewezen, maar in plaats van dit netjes eraf te halen. Voegde de dame eerst nog wat drankjes toe die ze vergeten zou zijn en haalde toen de gerechten eraf. Ze gaf aan dat het druk was, de bestellingen van thuisbezorgd gingen voor. Neem aan dat je een restaurant eerst voorziet van de bestelde gerechten.

Nou dat zijn dan de buren. 8 droge stukjes sushi en een portie pekingeend ook gortdroog voor 47 euro echt schandalig en een uur op moeten wachten. Kreeg wel een biertje voor de wachttijd. Sorry want het personeel is super vriendelijk maar ik kom echt nooit meer hier.

We eat here regularly and it never disappoints! Nicest Japanese restaurant in Amsterdam, with fantastic service and nice atmosphere. A permanent team has been working there for years and that has everything to do with the sweet and warm owner Michelle!

Food is nice but the service needs to be improved. It takes ages before the server takes your order. Besides, the music is just too loud.

Nous avons passé un excellent moment dans ce restaurant. L’accueil est sympathique, les enfants ont été gâtés par plusieurs petites attentions. La nourriture est excellente et le service parfait. Aucune remarque négative.

Al met al een tegenvaller. Gerechten die warm zouden moeten zijn waren koud. Das niet zo gek wanneer de borden ook koud zijn. Aangegeven bij bediening maar is niets mee gedaan. Zeker het geld niet waard. Helaas voor ons de laatste keer hier. Sushi kan je echt elders beter eten voor 120 pp !!!

Een zeer ruime kaart, royale porties per gang, waanzinning lekker eten en uitzonderlijk vriendelijke bediening. Parkeren voor de deur. Een absolute aanrader.

Blijft toch echt 1 van onze favoriete restaurants, zeer goed eten, heel vriendelijke eigenaren, en niet te groot. Dikke aanrade als je fan bent van de aziatische keuken, klasse!

Eten was redelijk goed, maar het duurde wel heel erg lang (zelfs op een doordeweekse dag) moesten wij 1,5 uur wachten op een paar sushi. Aangegeven waarom de tafels na ons eerder hun eten kreeg? 4 sterren voor de bediening (na onze klacht) kwam het eten vrij snel ze kwam elke keer vragen of alles naar wens was! Ze bood ook ons een drankje aan omdat het zo lang duurde! Restaurant is oubollig en niet gezellig (het stonk ook heel erg). Prijs kwaliteit kloppen voor geen meter…. Voor het geld kan ik ergens anders beter eten en mooiere ambiance! Helaas hier komen wij niet meer terug!

Der Service , sehr aufmerksam und entgegenkommend. Die Sushiauswahl einfach super. Diese Ausführungen hab ich noch nicht gekannt. Einfach lecker ! Und - der Abholservice hat im Restaurant nicht gestört .

Het eten is absoluut 5 sterren waard. Het is wat aan de dure kant, maar de kwaliteit is ook hoog. De gerechten die ze serveren zijn uniek. De enige 2 minpunten aan het restaurant vond ik, dat het heel donker was binnen, wat ik niet sfeervol vond en dat het een behoorlijke tijd duurt voordat het eten er is. Maar het was het wachten waard

Das Essen war wirklich lecker und sehr schön angerichtet. Das Ambiente ist sehr gemütlich. Es ist leider etwas teurer.

The food was excellent and there are enough choices, sushi sashimi etc but also main courses including enough vegetarian options. The dishes are not cheap but the quality is very high so that is reasonable. The lady serving us was at first a bit strict about us having to leave our table in an hour or so but in the end we stayed longer than that.

Food was excellent, and service was awesome. The atmosphere of the place itself is nice, but it was affected by 1 employee speaking very loudly while we were there, and a cat sitting at a table inside of the restaurant, and walking on the windsill. We hadn't seen the cat before getting our food, otherwise we would have left. We have nothing against pets, but cats climb up on everything, and transfer germs from one surface to another, which is not very hygienic, especially not for a restaurant.

Eten is erg lekker. Personeel erg matig en onbeschoft. Ook kan er geen normaal biertje getapt worden omdat hele bar vol staat met vieze glazen

Absolutely worth the price. The Peking duck is better than at “sechuan” restaurants in Amsterdam. Crispy skin (not to find elsewhere), cooked to perfection where the duck fat has melted, pancakes nicely separated. Only thing is I would use less sugar / honey in the hoisin sauce. Yakitori beef was marvelously delicious and filling. Noodles very yummy as well. Yes you will pay a bit more but you will get authentically prepared food - and your sushi won’t be from yesterday like in many other places.

Went to Michiu Amsterdam. Good food but weird service. After being called “schatje” all the time it seems one of my guests was served with the wrong dish. The waiter came along took the dish without asking and refilled it from food from my plate and gave it to someone else in the restaurant. I ended up with half a dish and was astonished and flabbergasted. Just an “excuse me” was all they did and the food was not cheap at all.
