I recently joined Monks’ well-structured, insightful and hands-on barista training session and can recommend it enthusiastically. The small group sizes led to a personal. well paced learning experience that included plenty of time to start developing the knowledge and skills required to make better coffee both professionally and at home.

Worst filter coffee I have ever tried in Amsterdam. I asked for a stronger one, it was really like a water with coffee smell. Took it to go, received the unbranded cheapest possible cup. Guys, it shouldn’t cost 4 euro.

Tucked just around the corner from where we were staying, we made the grave mistake of waiting until our last morning to visit. We wish we hadn't! This spot delivered, without a doubt, the best coffee we found in Amsterdam (and we tried at least five places!). The freshly baked scone and the incredible, low-sugar jam were an equally pleasant and unexpected surprise.

Cozy locale with the sweetest owner ever. I visited in the morning and asked for a regular, oat latte. Barista knew what she was doing and made an excellent drink. As i finished my drink i was checking out what beans to buy home and the owner kindly helped me pick out some beans thats worthy to try. We had a lovely conversation and overall, what a nice experience for someone visiting amsterdam for the first time! I highly recommend Monks Coffee Roasters, especially as a coffee enthusiast like myself. I will be back soon!

As an American who moved to Amsterdam, I am constantly on the lookout for coffee places that sell real cold brew, not an iced americano (or a cup of espresso with an ice cube on the side 🤣). Monks is the real deal, they even have multiple blends of cold brew that rotate every few days, and the one I tried was some of the best cold brew I’ve had anywhere!

I really wanted to like this place, but my visit was not pleasant. The service from the man behind the counter felt unwelcoming and a bit rude, which set a negative tone right away. The environment was also very chaotic—there were several dogs barking at the same time and kids running, jumping, and screaming, making it almost impossible to have a conversation. Tables are placed extremely close to each other, so there’s no sense of personal space, and when I sat down, my table was dirty, full of crumbs, and sticky, which is not acceptable in a café setting. Unfortunately, with the combination of poor service, noise, and lack of cleanliness, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously, because the place has potential if these issues are addressed.

Simply amazing cortado! Great atmosphere and staff. Seems that the owner is also always on place and talks with people which is very nice.

Cappuccino was perfect, have been travelling Europe for nearly 3 weeks and this has been by far the best cappuccino I’ve had.

The food was incredibly delicious. I had the ham and cheese toastie, and the sauce was like a kind of mustard and was super tasty. The restaurant has a very nice, casual decor and very relaxing music. My favorite was the wall with the various stars on it. The setting was also super nice and sweet. I highly recommend Monks Cafe, and I definitely want to come back.

Excellent coffee and a great vibe. I especially loved their creative take on the pornstar martini — they turned it into a delicious cake! Bonus points for the adorable wall filled with dog photos — such a warm and personal touch.

Lovely spot, very cosy and has character. We attended a barista workshop with our team at work - Patrick was very patient and explained everything. He never dismissed any of our many questions nor did he try to sell us things. Got some great tips that I'm going to try out at home! Will be back with my partner and dog as it's also very dog friendly!

A coffee place with a feminine touch situated in the middle of Amsterdam. It has a quote from T. S. Eliot claiming he measured his life in coffee spoons. This coffee shop deserves a thousand spoons. I asked for a Caffe Latte, which was well done, and a pastry. I don't remember the name, but they described it as banana cake without the banana. Congratulations.

We had a nice Chai Latte with some pastries and sweets. The service was really kind, they recommended to try the Pea milk and it was really delicious. The environment is cozy and I appreciate that there is actually space to sit down (rare in Amsterdam cafes)

Coffee was ok! Though my experience was shadowed as I was honestly disappointed to find out that the savory breakfast options shown in all their menus photos and instagram are only available on weekends. After biking 20 minutes to get here on a Monday, all they had were pastries. Just a heads up—don’t be misled by the pictures! 😭😭😭 We tried the cinnamon bun but it was a little soggy.

I didn't find their service very friendly. Clearly, it is not a place to bring your laptop. They should rather clearly inform clients about their (implicit) no-laptop policy than keep clients crammed in a corner while the whole place is empty. I felt like empty tables were more important than actual clients. Not coming back.

Nice atmosphere where you can enjoy a cup of delicious coffee as well as a nice conversation with the barista. They warmly welcome you once you step in the coffee shop. Also, the barista is very keen to share their recommendations on coffee. The most importantly, the coffee is delicious with a reasonable price 😋 if you are looking for a daily coffee bag, here’s the place for you! In terms of the quality and the environment, it’s a good place to keep for a casual meeting with friends or a place to cool down in the city ☺️

I drove 40 minutes specially to visit this place and I really was not disappointed.. I tried the Colombian and the Mexican beans it is from another world.. Also my wife and son had the Turkish eggs which they believe it was extraordinary.. Best coffee in Amsterdam..

We were here for the Coffee Appreciation course and it was an all around great experience. The owner, Patrick, put a lot of effort into the design. He was able to give us a lot of knowledge about coffee. Even though the course is a little more expensive, we got a lot out of it and even got our own coffee beans. Definitely worth a visit for coffee lovers and those who want to become one! We will definitely come back on our next trip to Amsterdam.

I went here for a Barista course - it was run by Patrick, the founder, and his patience, knowledge, humour and passion for his craft made it a wonderful experience! Would recommend for both people looking to acquire or hone industry skills, or who want a great experience/ evening activity. It's done with a small group so there's plenty of individual attention and room for questions, and of course plenty of attempts to get better at the whole process...

A great way to start the day, with options for those with a sweet tooth or a savory craving. I ordered the Turkish Eggs and was not disappointed.

This café is mentioned in several articles about the best coffee spots to work from in Amsterdam. However, there is only a small laptop friendly zone with 3 uncomfortable barstools. Laptops are not allowed on the rest of the tables. Also good to know: from Monday until Thursday they only serve toasties for lunch (no regular lunch menu available). Good coffee though.

strangely milky americano with a peculiarly large amount of coffee grinds in it To reply to the owner: I am aware of the curse of customers leaving bad reviews for the wrong locations. Unfortunately that is not what happened here. You policy may not be to put milk and coffee grinds in the drink when customers order an americano, but that is what your baristas put in mine when i was there. I remember it distinctly because I was so excited to go, and so very disappointed with the whole experience. The reason I did not walk back to the shop and complain was because the staff who were working at the time all seemed exhausted, stressed and distracted. Although there were not many customers in the shop at the time, I imagined that they had had a very busy morning and didn't need the trouble. I also left a three star rating instead of one star, because I have a lot of respect for the difficulties of running a business. We all make mistakes. It's more of a mystery for me. I can understand how grinds end up in coffee - if the barista doesn't keep the floor of the grinder clean (which can happen when the rush of customers never ends) then grinds can stick to the portafilter spouts. But the milk was so bizarre I just thought to mention it in the review so you could review your practices. In any case it was not my intention to give you a bad review. I would want to visit more than once before doing that with a coffee shop. But Google knew I had researched your location for days, asked for directions and followed directions there, and gps-located me in your shop. Which is why google prompted me to leave a review. So I am sorry to tell you bad news, but your shop most definately served me a milky americano full of coffee grinds. Sorry! Lots of love!!

What a nice place for a delicious cup of coffee and a beautiful lunch. We ate the pancakes, among other things, and these are without a doubt the best we have ever eaten.

We walked in here and were able to find a table for 4 on a Saturday. I had a Wu Tang; scrambled eggs, avocado, caramelised onions, bacon, two large pancakes with butter, and blueberry sauce. It was a delicious and very filling breakfast. Especially the pancakes were pretty good.

Great place to grab a brunch. We were lucky enough not to have to wait for a table, which is rare on a Sunday. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. The food was very tasty and fresh.
