Went to bring New Years Eve in with my partner and honestly couldn’t believe how average the food was. The building was lovely and service was quite good however the dishes were average at best. Ribeye was poor, the leeks with hollandaise and caviar was bland, the dessert was like a cheap choc ice. Honestly couldn’t believe the poor standard being sent out by the kitchen. I definitely would not recommend and left Amsterdam disappointed after looking forward to bringing the new year in, in what I thought would be a lovely meal for us.

Nela is a beautiful restaurant with an appealing concept: good food and delicious drinks, prepared primarily over an open fire. Our initial enthusiasm for a promising local restaurant turned to disappointment, as Nela ultimately felt overpriced. Portions are tiny, there's a lot of showmanship, and everything happens at a remarkably fast pace. You easily pay hundreds of euros per person, while sitting in the din and having to make room within a few hours. A relaxed, high-quality meal, with room for dessert and a glass of wine to relax afterward, is usually not an option, although this was less of a problem during our last visit. Moreover, during one of our visits, some of the wait staff, and sometimes guests as well in the summer, were visibly smoking a few meters away in/near the doorway, right in front of the large window on the terrace. This shows a distinct lack of class. To be fair, when the maître d' realized we were noticing this, he intervened and the matter was resolved. From 10:00 PM onwards, the music, which has been too loud all evening, is cranked up another notch or two. A heavy, nightclub-like bass thump then dominates the space. And then you think you're dining out in style. Meanwhile, the ladies around the bar are happily sipping their cocktails, which, in my opinion, makes the nightclub atmosphere too dominant. Many local residents won't consider Nela a positive experience, as in the past the establishment has regularly caused considerable noise pollution late into the night, sometimes until 2:30 AM, literally affecting around 200 apartments. Fortunately, the noise has decreased recently, except on holidays like King's Night and New Year's Eve, but that's perhaps just part of the experience. In short, I have mixed feelings about this place. You can have a lovely evening there and enjoy top-notch food, but bring your wallet and, in some cases, your earplugs 😏.

i could say that the restaurant is likely a bit to much focussed on their regular clients. however we felt quite welcome and the restaurant looks amazing, however the lighting could be better to bring out the nice vibe. the drinks from the bar (cocktails) where great. the food on christmas day (2nd christmas) was boring and tasteless. you see the quality of the meat and products however the food did not taste very well as it should do. perhaps the chef could taste its own food instead of making insta pictures with their regulars. i would not recommend this restaurant for these price/quality ratio to my friends.

We went there on our wedding anniversary and they made it a great experience. Guido and Jessica were a great crew who were very friendly and attentive. Our 8 year old son was very happy with the pizza. He was curious towards and cooking and was taken to chefs table where he was talking to the chefs and had a great experience. I will highly recommend it and will definitely visit again.

Nela Amsterdam is truly a unique dining experience. Everything is cooked over charcoal, and the shared-dining concept works beautifully here. Every dish bursts with flavor—varied, bold, and genuinely surprising in the best way. The food is not only delicious but also well-priced for the quality you get. The wine list is good, but the pricing feels a bit steep. I missed a stronger mid-range selection—there aren’t many bottles around the €50 mark, which would nicely bridge the gap between the lower and higher tiers. The interior is stylish and warm, with plenty of cozy corners that offer a sense of privacy while still being part of the energetic buzz that fills the restaurant. If there’s one drawback, it’s the location on the Zuidas, where parking is notoriously expensive. Luckily, Amsterdam Zuid station is only a 5–10 minute walk away and makes a great alternative. Staff speaks mostly English (some Dutch). If you want to surprise someone with a memorable meal, Nela is absolutely the place to go!

We visited Nela Restaurant for our Christmas dinner with the team, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience. The interior is beautifully designed — stylish, warm, and inviting — which immediately set the mood for a cozy and festive evening. We chose the tasting menu, and every dish was truly exceptional: creative, beautifully presented, and full of amazing flavors. The service was excellent as well — attentive, friendly, and perfectly paced throughout the night. Overall, Nela delivered a memorable dining experience that exceeded our expectations. It’s a place where great food, atmosphere, and hospitality come together seamlessly. We will definitely be returning!

Came by for a late lunch on a Monday just before they took a break! They were very accommodating and seated me at the chef counter to watch my meal being prepared. It was recommended to try one each of the small plates from each page of the menu. Tried the Torched Toro (fatty tuna belly), baby leeks and flame grilled sea bream. The Torched Toro was one of the best I ever had especially with the turmeric butter from the complimentary bread and the smokiness of the sear. The baby leeks were revelatory. I didn't expect that much flavor and again the fire added so much umami to it. The sea bream was also fire grilled with some pesto type paste on it. Again the fire and smokiness complimented the fresh fish perfectly. The Saffron Heaven cocktail was very good. The service was exemplary.

Our evening at NELA was truly perfect. The staff were incredibly attentive and immediately recognized us, which made us feel so welcomed. We were treated to delicious small bites beyond our order, and they even prepared old favorites that are no longer on the menu. Every detail came together flawlessly.

The best restaurant I have dined in that has no Michelle stars. Super starter. I had the Coal Yuzu cocktail that was refreshing and well made. The waygu beef, oysters, deep fried mushrooms were outstanding. For mains we had the sirloin steak with 2 sauces Ginger extract and a spicy Jalapeño sauce. Also the Sea bream with green coating. Both were spectacular. The desserts were also very special. Hats off to the Chefs and owners for such a brilliant restaurant. By the way it's expensive but not exorbitantly pricy. Will surely recommend it to people with good taste and want an epicurean experience. Bravo. We'll done. I'll be back May be in London next. Who knows.

Building was lovely, chefs and food were incredible and service was good - a few things though, we waited a very long time between bites of food, at the end of the meal the ‘special’ which was a £140 CDB which we weren’t told about, when we couldn’t Finish the mammoth steak that came at the end, I asked if we could take it home along with some other bits and the answer was no… I spent as much on my hotel for 6 nights as that meal and I couldn’t take it home.. tainted our whole evening and was a real shame.

Upon arrival, we received a completely unwelcoming welcome. The woman at the entrance had a particularly nasty attitude, which made us feel completely unwelcome. Hopefully, something will be done about this, because first impressions are so important.

A night at Nela is simply the best night out, with amazing food, delicious drinks, excellent service and warm and welcome vibes all over.

One of the best meals I have had in 2025. The ribeye steak and Lamb were both very very good. A little bit loud and service was a tiny bit slow, but overall it was great.

We had a nice experience. The building itself is very luxurious. For the food, the short rib and lamb shank melted in your mouth, however the meat itself lacked more seasoning/flavour. The red wine jus/reduction really elevated the dish tho and gave it a ton of flavour. I did miss the “real” lavash bread, but I can appreciate the fine dining alternative. The cocktails were delicious as well. Our hostess was very sweet and attentive. The younger waiters could show a bit more enthusiasm however.. We will definitely be coming back, worth the trip to Amsterdam from the south! Overall the Netherlands has a shortage of restaurants like these. We understand why Lando Norris likes it😉

A wonderful lunch experience high above the busy Zuidas. Nela, located on the 2nd floor of The Valley building, is a beautiful mix of modern elegance and warm atmosphere. The sleek interior, soft lighting, and inviting ambiance make it a lovely place to relax and enjoy good food. We were greeted kindly and shown to our table, where the sharing menu took us on a delicious journey. A mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes—all beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Each dish felt special. This is not the place for something simple, but rather for those who enjoy refined and creative food. Prices are a bit steep, yet the experience is well worth it. Desserts are charged separately, but make a perfect ending to the meal. It was a memorable visit, and we will definitely return.

Incredible evening. Every dish, every interaction with the staff and the venue itself were all brilliant. Wouldn’t have wanted to spend our first wedding anniversary any differently. 100% going to go to the London restaurant now we’re back in London! Thanks to everyone at Nela for a great night.

Following Excellence: A Perfect Meal at Nela Amsterdam ​We loved Nela London so much (it's just 100 steps from our apartment!) that we immediately booked a reservation at Nela Amsterdam during our four-day getaway—a first for us to follow an international chef! ​The experience was simply incredible. We were honored that Chef Ori remembered us and was kind enough to stop by for a quick chat and a selfie. (Note to self: I need to work on my selfie skills—the photo was blurred, but the memory isn't! I'll let my husband take the photo next time we cross paths in London.) ​We had a fantastic view sitting at the Chef’s Kitchen Counter and watched in awe as the team moved in unison—it's truly a well-oiled machine. The live fire kitchen presents such excitement as steaks, vegetables, and seabass are cooked with flair on the grills and in the clay oven. It’s an art form. We even watched Chef Alberto and Chef Jasper perfectly execute our made-to-order ribeye. ​We felt like celebrities when Chef Ori sent over a complimentary caviar starter, followed by a freshly made dessert from Chef Julia. Our server, Matilda, was wonderfully attentive, and Florentene gave us a warm welcome upon arrival. ​Both Nela locations have definitely perfected the art of cooking seasonal ingredients that truly come to life through fire and modern techniques. We can't wait to return!

From the minute you walk into the restaurant there is a warm welcome and it carries on throughout your whole stay, so well looked after by everyone and attention to detail, now that’s what I call hospitality! The food amazing love the idea of the food comes out once ready no starters or mains and the desserts to die for so very special would highly recommend to go this new restaurant which has a lovely atmosphere

Last visited September 2025 Visited Nela a number of times now, usually at bar dining with a few drinks. Good recommendations by the bar staff on what to order. Check the pic out. DJ on the decks after 9pm..... great atmosphere. Planning on visiting again so will update the review and pictures. Pricey but expect it with the high standards of the food and drinks. Casual fine dining. Staffs were so friendly and recommended two person order 6-7 dishes to share . And tiramisu was super creative and tasty . Very good experience !

We had high expectations, but unfortunately, they were disappointing. The restaurant looks beautiful and has potential, but for a so-called high-end restaurant, the execution doesn't match the high prices. The portions in the shared dining concept were small (with 11 dishes for 4 people, we weren't full) and we ended up ordering a pizza and 3 desserts. The service was impersonal: dishes were brought out without a word, which felt a bit like an "all you can eat" restaurant. There was also no question about whether everything was to our liking. The food was inconsistent. The meat was good, but many dishes were unbalanced (wagyu too sour, steak tartare too salty). The desserts were also confusing: the "tiramisu" and "pavlova" looked nothing like their names suggest (which is fine, but I don't understand why they call it that) and they were brought back without mentioning which dessert it was and without a moment to ask a question. A beautiful restaurant, but especially for these prices, it's too cluttered and subpar.

What a wonderful evening at the Chef’s counter. Chef’s Alberto, Chris and the pastry chef made us feel so welcome and were just a delight. Albeit service being a little slow, the food is fantastic and it’s really vibrant in the evenings on a weekend. I highly recommend the vegetarian dish, king of which are the zucchini and the truffle cabbage. Scallops are just otherworldly.

Been here a few times, the ambiance is warm and high-end, with Balearic beats and relaxed staff who seem to enjoy working there, which is great to see, especially in Amsterdam. On a Saturday it can be quite a party, nice dj and we were happy with Vitaliy as bartender - customized drinks to our preference, great convo, friendly character and a very service oriented approach. Will definitely come back! 5 stars for professionalism.

Nela is one of those place we kept saying we must go to based on friend’s experiences. Last night we finally got there and it was incredible. The food was outstanding with inventive and such delicious dishes. Everything from beginning to end was so wonderful and the space and decor is so cozy and chic. We had a short wait before being seated, but it actually added to the experience. Preety, the bartender, was so warm and welcoming—she made us feel right at home and mixed some fantastic cocktails while we waited. Once we sat down, everything exceeded expectations. The food was incredible—each dish packed with flavor and beautifully plated.

One of the Most Overrated Dining Experiences in Amsterdam Nela is the perfect example of everything that’s wrong with the current wave of “concept restaurants” — all aesthetics, zero soul. It looks like someone spent a fortune designing a space for influencers and forgot they also needed to serve decent food. Let’s start with the food: completely forgettable. Bland, overpriced, and executed with the kind of indifference you’d expect from a chain airport lounge. Every dish we tried felt like it was made to be photographed, not eaten. The kitchen clearly knows how to plate, but flavor? Technique? Seasoning? Missing in action. Service was equally lifeless. Robotic at best, careless at worst. We waited ages between courses, and when the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm. Not once did we feel genuinely welcomed — it’s like the staff were trained to perform hospitality, not actually deliver it. Wine list? Overpriced, underwhelming, and offered with zero insight or enthusiasm. When you’re paying this much, the least you expect is someone who actually knows what they’re pouring.

Great place to have a closing dinner after a succesfull deal! The shared dining concept and open kitchen offer a great ambiance. Our waiter was very attentitive enhancing our experience of the great food and wines.

What a gem in Amsterdam! From the moment I walked in I felt welcome. The interior is modern and stylish, with an eye for detail. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional and attentive, without being pushy. And then the food… truly sublime! Every dish was perfectly balanced, beautifully presented and full of flavour. You can taste that they work with passion and quality – a true culinary experience. An absolute must for anyone who loves good food in a refined, modern setting. I will definitely come back here!

Good food, nicely presented. The serving was super slow (we were a big table) and the music was a bit too loud.

For a business lunch, we were attracted by the business menu on the website. At the table we were told to our surprise that you could only order it with 4 persons (we were 3. On the website it is not mentioned that there is a minimum of guests for the menu). After that, our business talk was interrupted with waiters asking about orders, something we had wanted to avoid by ordering a set menu. Orders were mixed-up, and when the waitress brought the wrong dish, she kept insisting and asking if we didn’t want to keep what we didn’t order. She continued trying to sell us extras, the wine for 10 Euro a glass was only one sip - I left the Restaurant with a huge bill for some tiny dishes that weren’t of high quality. Nela seems to be another heartless Amsterdam money making machine. I gave this feedback to them directly to give them the chance to react. They wrote to me that they are “disappointed” about my feedback. Hahaha, well so am I about Nela.

Perfect execution on all levels!

I found it a bit pricy for what it was, especially given the location and when compared to the general quality of restaurants available in Amsterdam. The big downfall for me was that it felt too much like an « instagram » restaurant like in Dubai - of course some people will like that! Also, from looking at the pictures I expected a lot of natural light and a view but it was actually quite dark.

We had a great meal at Nela Restaurant—delicious food and a stylish atmosphere. It did take a while for our dishes to arrive, but we were a big group, so it was understandable. The location can be a bit tricky to find since you need to go up via stairs or elevator, but thankfully a friendly waiter outside helped guide us. Worth the visit for the food and ambiance!

Came here for dinner. Very nice ambiance and decor. It was fun watching the kitchen at the chef’s counter. Each dish was fresh and unique. Fire was nicely incorporated into the food, providing a charred and smokey flavour. Portion sizes were small and the menu was on the expensive side.

Great service, the waitresses and waiters are amazing and super friendly. But the food is extremely disappointing. Most dishes didn’t have any flavour. The fish fingers tastes even better than the Chilean sea bass that we ordered (which was by the way 37 euro). I would definitely not recommend the yellowtail, leek or scallops with potato cream either. To us it felt like the chef forgot to put spices in the dishes whatsoever. I unfortunately will never return to this place.

It's really delicious. I'm from Sichuan, so it tastes like home, and the skewers are bigger than those in my hometown.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of dining at Nela Restaurant in Amsterdam with some great friends, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we entered, we were greeted by amazing staff who made us feel right at home. The ambiance of Nela is both chic and inviting, with a modern design that complements the warm atmosphere. We began our evening with a selection of dishes cooked over their signature open fire, a technique that imparts a unique and delightful flavor to the food. The menu offers a variety of options, and we particularly enjoyed the sea bass and scallops, which were cooked to perfection.

Every things is good in Nela. Nice view nice guys good food. Sitting in front of the open kitchen was a nice experience. But if you want to order a Dutch oyster, they will give you the one from Ireland 🙃😉

It is a quality venue, the ambiance is very good, especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. The food is delicious and the portions are filling. I'm counting the days to go again.

I have been to Nela probably 10 times now, and it never disappoints. One thing I have noticed is that the closer you get to the weekend, the vibe completely changes:more energy, a different crowd, and a DJ playing, which adds to the experience. What I love about the menu is how unique and diverse it is. No matter what you are in the mood for, there is something for everyone. The seating options are also a big plus: you can go for a table, the bar, or the kitchen counter, and all of them offer a great experience in their own way. Definitely a place I keep coming back to and would recommend to anyone looking for a great night out!

Delicious food, beautiful and attractive tent

I have now visited Nela restaurant in Amsterdam for the second time and I remain impressed! The food was again surprisingly delicious, with a perfect balance of flavors and creativity in every dish. What made this experience extra special was the white wine we had: a delicious Gavi di Gavi from Piedmont. This wine was crisp and refreshing, and paired perfectly with the dishes we tasted. In addition, we couldn't resist the Christophe Rosé Champagne. This one is now an old acquaintance, and it remains an absolute favorite: beautifully complex, yet refreshing and elegant. The entire menu and wine selection together made the evening complete. Nela remains a top address in Amsterdam, and I can't wait to come back!

Super restaurant! From the moment you arrive you realise you’re in for a dining experience and the decor is fantastic, with the open kitchens a treat to watch. The waiting staff were really helpful at explaining the menu, which is more geared around sharing plates than meals, and with their advice it worked perfectly. Both presentation and flavours were exceptional, and the only challenge became not continually ordering too much! The staff were great at keeping drinks topped up and the choice of wines available was good, all at sensible prices too. Next time I’m in the city I’ll be coming back here and highly recommend for a more special group experience!

Food was good, only with 4 people, 2 pieces of beef wellington as a main course was substandard. The chemistry between service client and pace was more than insufficient. You get the feeling as if you have to leave very quickly. A business with so much potential. Expectations certainly not met. Shame

Never seen service so bad and messy before. While there are about 12 of them doing little.

Disasterclass at Nela. First time, after hearing many great stories, but unfortunately they did not live up to the expectations. The food was tasty but not enough. For 8 people (chefs menue was mandatory) we were served 2 of each dish, and when dessert came we all of a sudden got 4 big cheesecakes and more desserts… Service was simply terrible, waiter smelled awfull, wine glasses were removed the moment we took a final sip.
