Loved the food and quick service. We ordered Hainanese chicken rice and mee goreng nyonya. The chicken was beautifully cooked and had amazing flavour. Definitely recommended!

Ordered laksa, nasi lemak, and char kway teuow, all are delicious! They also have the best restroom in the Europe!

I was looking forward to this but fell a bit disappointed. I ordered a Malaysian chicken curry that had the right colour but I saw an almost broth like sauce which I knew was a sign I won't be enjoying it. I was right. The sauce was more like a soup, unfortunately doesnt have a lot of flavour to it. It's not bad, just lacking in proper flavour. My sister ordered Hainanese Chicken and she enjoyed it. I had a taste of it and it was better than mine but again, needs a big upgrade on flavour the way Malaysian food should be. I wont be back and will look for a more authentic place next time.

Every time I visit Amsterdam, I stop by this place because it reminds me of home. The char kway teow was exceptionally delicious and had the nice char flavour of the wok. Servers were also very nice and helpful.

Nice, cozy place. Was mu first time having malaysian food, so nothing to compare it to. The spicy soup was really similar to tom yum from Thailand and the bean curd with vegetables was really close to a chinese dish, but not quite as flavourful. Asked for both to be very spicy, none of them was anything close. Overall, a nice expercience.

Chef van der Lecq wasn't lying! What a smack sensation! We started with fried tau fu, roti canai, and lumpia udang. Then we shared a few. Char kwai teom. Wow!!! Thick noodles with chicken and a kind of fish cake. Wonderfully balanced. Nasi lemak nyonya. Perfect if you don't like spicy food. Sambal petai udang. A delicious combination with peteh beans and shrimp. And what's for a drink? Teh tarik. A kind of black sweet tea with coconut milk? It certainly complements the food in this simple yet instantly cozy eatery.

Depending on the expectations this place can be very nice or very bad. I had Nr. 22 (17.50€) which was very tasty and with good flavour & wifey had Nr. 25 (17.50€) which was an oil bath, to the level of being not edible.(-3) Later in the evening we got huge heartburn. The location is close to the center and easy to reach (+1) but the interior is not very nice, it's smelling strongly like food so the front door must be open (-1). The staff is friendly and I could charge my phone (+1). The price is too high for what you get, I know it's Amsterdam but some other places look nicer inside and even serve pasta with truffles at 17€. The waitress asked everybody else if they want some food to try for free which they have made too much, apart from us. That is very unprofessional. I don't recommend this place, there are better choices in the area.

A humble and cozy shop serving good food! We ordered the teh tarik, curry mee and nasi goreng nyonya. Being a Malaysian myself, I think the foods gave a homely taste, especially after being a way from home for long. Definitely recommend anybody craving for authentic Malaysian food to drop by and try. This place deserves more recognition than many other restaurants in Chinatown area.

As someone who grew up eating Malaysian and Thai food, I like to think of myself as a bit of a connoisseur of Southeast Asian cuisine — so whenever I travel, I make a point to seek out authentic Malaysian restaurants. On a recent trip to Amsterdam, I finally made my way to Nyonya Malaysian Kitchen. It was a rainy, cold, breezy evening, and it took me quite a while to find the place. But as soon as I stepped inside the small, cozy restaurant, I was greeted by two of the friendliest waitresses I’ve ever met — neither of them Malaysian (one from Hong Kong), but both warm, welcoming, and attentive. That immediately set a positive tone for the night. I ordered the Hainanese chicken rice, which came highly recommended by many reviewers — some claiming to be Malaysians themselves — as well as a glass of iced teh tarik. Unfortunately, this is where my experience fell short. The chicken rice simply did not meet my expectations. The chicken was breast meat, lean and reasonably juicy, but lacking in flavor aside from the fried garlic garnish. The rice was the biggest disappointment — it tasted plain, without the rich, savory aroma that comes from cooking with chicken fat, which is the soul of a good Hainanese chicken rice. The chili sauce was equally underwhelming — watery and flat, missing the garlicky, gingery, tangy kick that makes the dish shine. Without a good chili sauce, chicken rice loses its identity. As for the teh tarik, it was diluted and lacked sweetness, tasting nothing like the creamy, frothy teh tarik that’s beloved in Malaysia. The highlight of the evening, surprisingly, was meeting the chef, who hails from Penang and has been living in the Netherlands for nearly four decades. He was warm, chatty, and clearly passionate about sharing his story. Unfortunately, I suspect that so many years away from Malaysia may have dulled the authenticity of his recipes. Would I return? Probably not for the food, but perhaps to chat with the chef again. With so few Malaysian options in the Netherlands — and my experience with the other one being equally disappointing — I can’t say I would take the risk again.

You can enjoy authentic Peranakan cuisine here. I highly recommend the Laksa Kari, which is spicy, rich, and full of flavor.

My favorite Malaysian restaurant in Amsterdam! It’s a family run affair and I love that atmosphere spills over into the restaurant ambiance too. The Roti Canai and Laksa are to die for. They also made a vegetarian Laksa for my mum that was loaded with veggies. Everything I’ve ordered here has been great, hopefully they’ll do desserts too someday!

Very delicious, great service and kind waiters. At times, the kitchen folks would cook something very spicy and would go up in the air and the entire restaurant will get spicy air. You will start coughing because of it. It is a minor inconvenience. Would have been great if the portion (I had the nasi lemak) would be a bit more rice. Was a bit shabby. Other than that, it was very good!

This was our third time here and its now become a must visit whenever we’re in Amsterdam. Living in europe, we really miss authentic Malaysian food, so every trip here feels like coming home. We ordered kuey teow goreng, roti canai, nasi ayam, and penang laksa curry. Every single dish was delicious, rich in flavor, authentic, and so close to the taste we remember from back home. You really can’t fool a Malaysian’s taste buds 🤣 and they impress us every single time. The portions are on the smaller side considering the price, which is a bit high, but honestly, the flavors make it worth it. The restaurant itself is small, cozy, and intimate, though not wheelchair accessible. If you’re coming with a big group, I’d highly recommend making a reservation. The owner isn’t the warmest or most smiley host, but for food this good, im more than happy to overlook that. At the end of the day, we come for the flavors and this place nails it every single time! 🤗

Authentic Malaysian cuisine, food is fast but service could be friendlier. Unfortunately the hainan chickens are overcooked to the point the meat is not so juicy and tender anymore. It seems like the chickens are precooked the day before or prepped in the early mornings and when it’s time to be served they just reheat it (in water). On the other hand, the laksa soup and char kway teo were super flavorful, you can really smell and taste the wok hei! Worth another visit.

It is halal Malaysian restaurant. The inside of the restaurant is small, but we were there during lunch time so finding table was not difficult (perhaps it would be more difficult for dinner time). The kangkung balacan was sooooooo gooood. The rice portion was huge, a bit too much for us. Would love to come back to try other menus :)

Thanks for the service. But the food is not really authentic. The roti’s gravy is watery and tasteless, nasi lemak is not what it is supposed to be etc. The food at Wau Restaurant is more representative of Malaysian food (yes, Wau may be 1.5 x more expensive, but it tastes 10x better and real Malaysian). But, thanks again for the service. You tried.

We arrived at the restaurant around 7:55pm. The waiter told us we need to wait 20-25 minutes. Let's come back again. We told her we were willing to wait. During this time, they could always see us waiting at the door. At 8:20, the waiter told us that the kitchen would get off work at 9:00 and we could buy takeout, but we might not be able to dine in. We are very angry. If that's the case, why didn't you tell us earlier? We waited almost 20 minutes to talk? Is this chasing customers? The waitress told us we had to wait for a table around 20-25 min when we arrived the restaurant around 7:55pm. I told her we will wait. And then we waited at the entrance and she could saw us each time when she served the foods and drinks. At 8:20 pm she told us there is no tabel guaranteed because the kitchen will be closed at 9:00 pm. Why did she not tell us when we arrived or anytime when she saw us waiting at the entrance. I have recommended this restaurant to friends but this time I am so disappointed. And I would not go there again.

I ordered kari bami soup and nyonya soup and WOW it was the best that we had so far. Even better than our country, Malaysia.

We ate there between lunch and dinner so it was very quiet. Hence the stars for atmosphere are a guess. But the rating for the food is no guess. A very tasty laksa. I would eat here again.

Quite a nice restaurant with a varied menu, the staff are very welcoming and the food was a nice surprise. Restaurant atmosphere like at home which brings a warm touch.

The food is good for the price but nothing special, cafe style Malaysian. Perfect for a hangover where you just don't care that much but want some greasy noodles and don't care if you throw them back up! I'm not really selling it but I would return... reluctantly!

I've tried several of the dishes and not a single one fail to satisfy my palate! I particularly love the Hainamese Chicken Rice and Laksa Mee. The place is a bit cramped, but the food is good and the service is fast. Totally worth it!

I ordered chicken wings, but they misheard and brought me Hainanese chicken rice instead, which was 10 euros more expensive when I was just looking for a light snack. There was some awkwardness, and if I had any reason to believe it wasnt an honest mistake, I would have left without touching the dish. I decided to believe that it was a honest mistake, and we agreed that I will pay 5 euros extra instead of the full cost. I'm not sure if there is a proper etiquette for this sort of situation, but paying 5 euros extra for something I didnt order left an impression. It was delicious of course, but I dont think I will be coming back.

I've long wanted to come here, I like Malaysian food and there aren't much Malaysian restaurants in Amsterdam. This one's a bit special, no alcohol server nor porc. I had Udang Goreng Blasa as starter, and Mee Hoon Goreng Nyonya for main course. Quite nice, a bit more spicy would've been OK. No alcohol, so I had an Earl Grey tea, the green tea wasn't available. Fast service, so a bit of a quick dinner, 20 minutes.

Went in to satisfy my Malaysian food craving after arriving in Amsterdam on a Wednesday night. I got the Char Kuey Teau first under the list of Chef's Recs. Tasty! and closely replicate one that I would get in Penang.

We ordered roti canai as a starter but it never arrived. Laksa curry soup tasted like curry powder and water; no flavour to the broth whatsoever. Nasi lemak was a dry chicken wing and white rice; zero seasoning on the chicken. Portions were tiny—we left hungry. We asked for some tap water and were told only the first glass is free.

Laksa is not as flavourful as in the good old times. The size of the portion also probably became smaller.

I had a quick lunch at this little restaurant and it was delicious! The dishes arrived quickly and were truly exceptional! I had rice noodles (number 25 on the menu) and they were really good. Being made of rice, I can say that they are gluten-free. I recommend it!

My first time at a Malaysian restaurant, the food was excellent, well-seasoned and balanced. I had teh tarik for the first time too which was delicious! The staff were very friendly and there was a cheerful vibe as well.

I'm not from Malaysia, so cannot say anything about authenticity. However, they serve delicious food in a cozy setting. Service is also good.

We don’t have too many Malaysian restaurants in Amsterdam, so I am very glad we have Nyona in the city centre. The portions are just right, very decent pricing and the flavor is amazing! Also you don’t have to wait too long for the dishes to arrive. Some of my favorites are Hainanese chicken rice and their noodle dish - char kway teow Penang style - the noodles were so satisfying and chewy!! Really good.
