Ode aan de Amstel in Omval/Overamstel

Had a delicious and fun Mother's Day brunch here. Beautiful place on the Amstel with a nice terrace. Smooth and pleasant service and tasty dishes. Definitely recommended!

Went for lunch and since nobody came to our table to take our orders after 30 minutes we had to go inside and order the food at the barre. After that, we had to wait another 20 /25 minutes for the starters to arrive, and then another 30/ 35 minutes for the main courses. On top of that Priscilla (one of the waiters working there) was super rude to us when we asked if there was a problem with the food because we have been waiting already for so long. She started almost screaming saying that she didn’t care if we had the food or not, I had to intervene and tell her to please stop arguing. It was not a pleasant experience to be honest, I think this person should take a course on how to treat costumers because I understand one can be tired but to start a scene like that after a simple question and arriving to the point of being disrespectful is not okay.

Simply unacceptable service. I am sorry for the (undexperienced) waitresses who have to work under Priscilla. She is arrogant and if my expierence is how she usually works, then she should really change profession. Shame because this place could really be an "Ode to Amstel", but unfortunately not until the service remains like this.

The food was OK, but there was a lack of good proactive service, tables were not occupied, but reserved according to the staff. Then ordered food on the boat and free tables were not filled. No bread or drink to get through the hour of waiting time. Very slow for a burger, salad and eggplant. Shame.

It has nice atmosphere, spent nice time near the Amstel, and they acknowledge you , thank you!

The food and the place was amazing, the only thing that I hated is the service the blond guy was very slow and not welcoming at all to us and my husband goes 2 time to him to take menu and to order coffee because he didn’t asked us what you like to drink!! But I want to thank the lady who served us later her name is Jaeden I think she was sweet and fast server and smiling and welcoming 😊

Went here with a group of colleagues. They had a shrunk down version of the menu as we were with such a big group, but everything that was on there tasted great! I had the braised veal which really was amazing. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice in this place. Overall had a great time, so they deserve my 5 stars!

It was quiet for a Friday evening, only a few tables occupied. I don't know it that way, but I've usually been there in the summer and it's a great terrace location. Well yes. Food was good, although the execution could sometimes be better (very firm 'foam' in one dish) and some combinations were a bit difficult. And the prices are high for what you get. Not quite too expensive, but it comes close.

The service was very friendly and worked in a timely and responsive manner. The atmosphere was pleasant and the view beautiful. Highly recommended!

Despite some last minute changes in the menu (on Boxing Day) and our party due to illness, the staff remained very understanding and friendly. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Recommended!

Sad how customers are treated here... Confusion with a booking far in advance - and without a formal commitment - followed up with legal action and a threatening tone. If this is how you have to earn your money... good luck...

Superb location. Smooth and very friendly service. I'm not a "big eater", but even for me the portions are too small. You cannot fill your stomach with 5 mini Brussels sprouts, a small piece of mushrooms (not cooked enough) and a thin strip of meat. Sounds strange, but I was tempted to order another main meal. Not done because the prices are also too high for both food and drinks. It was a weekday evening and the place was well occupied. So this formula apparently works, but not for me (us)

Beautiful location but the food doesn't taste very good despite the fact that it looks nice. Service was downright bad.

Food was just decent (some was good some was supermarket quality) with the amount being simply too little (we left hungry)

Had dinner here with a friend who works nearby. Very friendly service, great menu covering all bases and value for money pricewise. Parking was easy too!

On a sunny day it’s just the perfect place to retreat around the water and enjoy a nice view with a lot of little boats that pass by. The food is good as well. I’ll say it’s a little corner of “zenitude” :)

We loved this place, overlooks the Amstel Canal, got a seat on the deck with no reservation, lovely waiter, had great food. After a couple of hectic days in Rome, this was a nice change of pace, kicking back with a couple of beers & watching the world float by. Highly recommend!!

The food was absolutely phenomenal, the chef came out to speak to us about the dishes. The flavor of each dish was shockingly good, and the service and ambience top notch.

The location is really nice. It is 5 mins walking from Amstel station. The restaurant is located on Amstel river with a nice terrace. You can even come by boat and park the boat there. The atmosphere is nice. The service is slow because of lack of staff. The staff speaks English and Dutch. The toilets are clean. I wish if they have more vegan and vegetarian options.

Delicious food on one of the most beautiful terraces in Amsterdam. There is also a good and cozy atmosphere inside. Definitely recommended. During the day and in the evening.

We wanted coffee and cake on the terrace, coffee is allowed on the terrace, cake is not very strange, why do you have a terrace, you have to deliver food there, what a strange situation.

Breakfast with pancakes 🥞 Japanese pancake *, French toast, and coffee. Very friendly and the view is great!

A restaurant in a beautiful location, but which cannot live up to expectations. Slow, unrepresentative and uninterested service and no knowledge of the menu. A raw burger that eventually had to be returned and loud house music from 9 am, which irritated several guests along with us.

Restaurant with a lot of pretensions, but unfortunately they are not fully fulfilled. It's in a great location and everything looks great, so that's a good thing. However, the food is not much special for the price you pay. I had the eggplant as a main course and it was tasty, but the bean paste that came with it was quite bland. Fries were fine. The hamburger my friends had could be described as adequate. The service was friendly, but not very attentive. There are many waiters walking around, but it was not clear to me what exactly they do. In addition, the waiter at the table next to us had given the starters incorrectly to that table, only because he insisted on doing all the orders from memory. Stop being so proud and just write down orders! These kinds of things so often go wrong in the catering industry.

We were here on a sunny day for lunch. We order a club sando and a “twaalfuurtje”, which here is a shrimp croquet and a crab based soup. Both were good. The views and the deck make it so relaxed - service was also very friendly. And we all know Amsterdam is not always like that! They also have some meeting rooms that can be used upstairs.

Uitstekende kaart, toplocatie en ook goed parkeren in de buurt voor een redelijk bedrag. 2,5 uur voor €12. Je moet je wel even verdiepen in de juiste locatie en waar dan te parkeren. Topniveau bediening, goed ingewerkt en professioneel en vriendelijk. Beperkte maar veelzijdige kaart met heerlijke gerechten. Het prijsniveau is voor een toplocatie in Amsterdam passend maar verwacht hier geen goedkoop diner. Je zit dan we op een toplocatie aan de Amstel en ziet alle boten voorbij varen. Je kun met de boot aan het terras aanleggen, en dan ben je gelijk binnen. Uiteraard wel reserveren. Warm aanbevolen, ook de wijnkaart is goed en redelijk geprijsd.

8 bucks for a glass of wine is not cheap, ok for Amsterdam. But then pour a quarter full (twice)!?

Staff does not treat people nicely. Unable to deal with criticism and therefore it is always the customer's fault. Not just my experience unfortunately

Op deze locatie zou je meer mogen verwachten van een restaurant. De bediening was relaxed en spontaan, wat zeker een pluspunt is. Helaas kan ik dit niet zeggen over de keuken. Het leek alsof alles vooraf was afgemeten en klaargemaakt, wat de smaken flauw maakte. Ook was de temperatuur van het eten niet goed. Wanneer je met een open keuken werkt, wil je de koks aan het werk zien en het gevoel hebben dat je eten vers wordt bereid.

Unfortunately I had suggested this restaurant for a dinner with friends. The food was fine, but I have rarely experienced such brutal, unprofessional and amateurish service. You have Dutch service and then you have this service; Ode to ridiculous, brutal rotten service!

Delicious Saturday Brunch Had a delicious brunch at Ode aan de Amstel last Saturday. And to top it all off, unlimited mimosas! Highly recommended. The food was delicious. We would have liked to take a seat on the beautiful terrace, but unfortunately the Dutch weather was not good, but that did not spoil the fun because you can also sit very comfortably inside with the same view over the Amstel. We will definitely come back here again to try the All Day Dining menu.

A great place for a business dinner with colleagues. Right on the water and the ambiance is cool. The service is as should be expected in The Netherlands (our server left the table in the middle of opening our bottle of wine) and had to be flagged down to take our order.

2nd time at this restaurant but I won’t be back unless they change the service. After living 20 years in the Netherlands - I am used to what expats call “Dutch service”. But yesterday I visited with a friend and her daughter, and was appalled. The gentleman(!) was rude, didn’t make eye contact and pretty much wanted no business nor customers. We moved tables - and had to carry our food, cutlery and serviettes with us! We had to pretty much plead to get service or a drink. There was a young girl serving who was pleasant - but this chap was possibly the rudest wait staff I have ever encountered. Such a pity .. as the location is fab, the food ok but the service doesn’t match the place at all.

We attended with a large group for a work dinner. Booking was very straight forward and we received a lovely welcome upon arrival (by boat). Everyone throughly enjoyed the meal, the view and the atmosphere. Great food!!

The food is good 👍 but A waiter is bad service, He doesn’t know how to serve a wine!!! They should training a trainee or a new staff because We were expecting with a good service. Unfortunately, We informed a manager of a restaurant but He doesn’t do anything.

Today we were in a new place and it's really cool. We were sitting inside. We took a passion fruit martini and a lavender spritz, the martini was not as sweet as usual, but the spritz was top! The burger was delicious, the shrimp was also top. We didn't have enough dessert in us, but next time we will definitely come back ✨

Took too long for my white wine to be served. Ask twice but alas! We asked again at the bar and then it became messy or too difficult. Company manager solved it in one go....

Amazing food and service on the most beautiful location in Amsterdam

A 10 minute walk from Amstel metro/train station. It is directly on the water meaning some people drive their boats and dismount on the terrace. Good place to see the cruise boats and rowers. The area around the station is a combination of high rise apartments and office buildings. The river can be seen though there is a lot of vegetation and boathouses in the vicinity. Ode menu is modest but the food is very good. We went on Saturday at 11 for brunch and were not joined by any others until after noon. I imagine weekdays are busier.

Had a delicious meal, took the 5-course chef's menu, received 5 surprising dishes: home-smoked salmon, sea bass, oxtail combined with duck liver, lacquered pork belly and for dessert a ganache with raspberry sorbet. Each dish also had delicious flavors and accents, a touch of acid, different textures, the sea bass was really perfectly cooked and crispy on the skin. All this for a very fair and correct price and extremely pleasant service. To be repeated!

The restaurant is quite nice, unique location, on the water. Unfortunately the service is super slow, waited 30 min to take our order (restaurant was not full) and waiters quite rude and with not nice attitude. Food is pricey and not worthy, tasteley.It’s just a pity as they have amazing location, but the overall experience was not meeting the expectations. I saw now that in dutch newspaper has been reviewed as the restaurant with a score of -5 for service, that s the sadly true. I hope the owner will take at some point some measures. It’s a pity as they have so much potential with that amazing place.

A restaurant that first confirms your booking and than cancels it without notice... They say that they actually have spare tables for drinks but it is too much work for them to serve you dinner. And we were just 2 people... The staff was pretty rude and didn't offer any apology or compensation. This even after I showed them the confirmation email.

Nice place but you shouldn't assume the service is good. I have never waited 2 hours for a salad before in my life. I think the anchovies still had to be caught. Later, more was forgotten to be served at our table and we had to ask the staff again. It was then quickly served with an apology. Nicely resolved, but not what you expect when you see the place like this.

Very nice that you can moor your boat and have a drink. It's a pity that the service doesn't really run smoothly. By the way, very nice people. Toilet could really be better maintained. We ran out of toilet paper. Toilet seat was very dirty and discolored at the bottom. The alarm on the disabled toilet is not properly connected.

The food was excellentl, the ambient also. But it took us 45 min to receive the first bottle of water, and the oysters (which were not cooked), took another 35 min to show up at the table. If you don't bother with time, this is a good place.

We were there on March 29 to celebrate a party with 28 people. 2 beautiful tables along the windows, nicely set. Reception with a cava was excellent, and we were very satisfied with the 3-course menus with extra cheese board. The service was also excellent. A recommendation!

Nice location, but the food is not that special in terms of price ratio. The floor was dirty especially in the corners and sticky. The service was nice, but it took a while before we got our food on the table.

Delicious food, beautiful and special flavor combinations. Also beautiful views over the Amstel. The service feels very personal. Acoustics are very good. Beautiful open kitchen. Only when we left we were ready to wave goodbye to the waiter, who was too busy serving people.

Were received: have you made a reservation? Yes, we were only allowed to select a table set for 2; was not busy , arrived at 8pm. Okay , but no one came after us . Could have seen a better table. We sat down on a table set for 2 people and waited at least 15 minutes to even order an aperitif. Asked for the wine list, colleague had to do it, again 10 minutes. One dry cloth in your mouth from interest in a glass, but also irritation from this service. Finally, after pressing the kettle, hehe, we got our wine. What was the menu?. Yes surprise, due to . Possible allergy and the intention of this service, really didn't understand it, didn't even know what the bread was and what was prepared with butter, which made us anxious about the menu. Did it, kitchen is great! Service worthless, also clothing drama: if you want to present yourself with a top store and prices, make sure the staff is dressed and has some professional knowledge: this really isn't the case!

Extremely underwhelming - our reservation was booked for 8pm, we had to wait almost 45 minutes before our table was ready, they must have over booked the restaurant - I’ve never had to wait this long for a table before. By the time our wine and the first course came out we were in the restaurant almost 90 minutes. The waiter was extremely nice but everything was very slow. There was a lot of time between each course by which our plates were left empty on our tables and weren't taken away. By the time our last two courses came out, the restaurant completely emptied out which was quite a pity, the atmosphere that everyone else seemed to experience was completely gone for us. Maybe if we had gotten our table for the time we reserved we wouldn’t have experienced this. We also felt quite rushed to eat our courses as the staff had already began to clean around us. The food was underwhelming considering the cost, we thought every course was quite bland. Considering the circumstances we were dealt, we were still charged fully with no complimentary drinks/courses offered. Very disappointing experience overall.

Brunch menu chosen. We were afraid that the 4 servings would be a bit too much, but the portions were well distributed, not too much or too little. Eggs benedict with ham was very tasty. Bread board with scones too. Japanese pancakes and French toast slightly less. But all in all satisfied!
