We went there for a dinner in a small group. The place has nice decor with gentle lightening that give it a very cozy ambience. Food was just fine in terms of flavor though the presentation is notable. They have an expansive wine list, so a definite plus if you are into wines. As it was cold outside, we couldn't enjoy the view from the terrace - though this might be a reason to come back.

Updating my review to share some new photos from my latest visit. Ode aan de Amstel has been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions — I’ve visited six times for the 5-course menu and have always loved its creativity and refinement. I’ve kept some photos from previous visits to show how good the dishes used to look and taste. Unfortunately, the quality seems to have dropped again in my last two or three visits. Some dishes were unbalanced (one too salty, another underseasoned, and the pork belly disappointing in texture). Maybe I was just unlucky, but for €63 (excluding drinks), the overall experience no longer feels worth it. I truly hope the restaurant regains the finesse and consistency that once made it stand out.

We had a great lunch here! The food was tasty, with a nice yeasty flavor and something for everyone. The staff was super friendly, and the pricing was very good for the quality. The restaurant is also in a great location. It was pretty empty during our visit, but it gets busier in the evenings. Definitely recommend checking it out.

The service is a bit hesitant, or is that a choice?

I’ve been here multiple times with family. The food is delicious and the terras is perfect for a weekend brunch when the weather is good. The service friendliness varies from time to time, but overall nice experience. It’s a stable place for us to come back to.

We tried the Sunday brunch which was very good. The scone was served with sour rather than clotted cream but was pretty good. No tea was served as part of the meal (a large pot would have been nice...). The eggs Benedict, French toast with strawberries and canelé with tropical fruit were also very good. The service was relaxed - I guess we could have been served faster if we were asked. The (decaf) coffee is really good!

The food is always very well and . here we for lunch we hax octopus, Caesar salad, oysters. White wines are also on point. If I had to think of really one improvement could be some variation in your cocktails list.

A year ago we celebrated our wedding here and it was fantastic! Now, on our first wedding day, we were greeted by chef Carolina who had recognized our names on the reservation. We had an amazing 3-course dinner and a sweet surprise at the end. Everybody was so nice to us! 🥰 The food is great, the people are great. I can highly recommend this location for both events and regular dining. Many thanks to the staff who made our specials days even more special ❤️

Visited on a warm and sunny day and, oh boy, what a place right next to/ in the water! It's able to completely open its glass facade, facing the water, allowing a smooth breeze to cool you down. Cushions and pillows to relax and great, happy people to serve you their great food.

Delicious food and beautiful views along the water.

Everything was great till towards the end when we (a family of 3, with my little one 20 months old) felt that we were rushed to finish the dish and leave even though the whole restaurant is quite empty. Not sure if this is common Dutch service level, but we certainly don’t appreciate if someone come over within 5-10 mins to check on our last dish and even ask if we want to pack and go. Is this normal, guys? Help me understand the rationale here. Reply to the comment: 1. There is no language barrier as we both are speaking and typing in English. 2. The question was do you want to pack and go, and not if you want any dessert. 3. If we have finished our food, then why we were asked if we want to pack and go. I understand you are trying to de-escalate, but please don’t push the feedback back to your customer but instead, do something concrete, all these above are concrete actual feedback.

Sad! Here you go. There's plenty of room to sit. Then you hear there's no room. Simply awful. They don't appreciate this and I really don't want to wish these people any good. It's a shame, I hope you change in the future.

Beautiful place, especially in the summer, when you can sit on their lovely terrace or moor your boat. We recently went for a business lunch. Food: The smoked eel was decent, but the beetroot was overpowering. The Cubanito and Ode's Burger were fine, nothing special. With some water and a coke, it was €100 for two people. Service: We sat on the terrace for over 2.5 hours and had to ask several times if we could order something. There were plenty of staff around, but they were mainly busy with other things like setting tables and arranging things. Our plates and glasses were left on the table. When I wanted to pay, I was asked to go inside myself for the bill and to pay; something you don't expect at a place like Ode aan de Amstel.

We dined here again and it was excellent. Good, tasty dishes and friendly, attentive service. And excellent wines! If you sit by the window, you have a fantastic view of the Amstel River. We'll definitely be back!

Beautiful location. Service was rather mediocre; we arrived at 7:00 PM and didn't receive our main course until 9:25 PM. The food was very mediocre. The location has a lot of potential but needs a good entrepreneur to turn it into something beautiful. In the end, they resolved the issue by offering a discount on the bill.

If you're looking for something upscale, this is the place for you... A great meal is complemented by a view. The restaurant is practically a restaurant on the water... You can enjoy small snacks and drinks on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view of the water. Large meals are served indoors, as seagulls might stop by on the terrace and not ask if they can try...

You sit beautifully on the terrace on the Amstel. Unfortunately, there were a lot of large groups eating when we were there, which affects the atmosphere and attention of the service. The food is good, with nice weather you sit there beautifully as said and if there are no large groups the atmosphere is probably also great!

Food was fine, not very special. Very inexperienced service. We had to keep asking where our food/drinks were. We also had to wait a very long time for the food of one of our friends while the rest already had everything due to a mistake by the chef/service. When you asked something about the menu our waiter shrugged his shoulders and said yes no idea I just got in. And made no attempt to find out.

This is my second time with the reservation. First time they said they can not give us a table outside, even though my reservation was for the outer terrace and we needed to leave. At that time their reservation system was open but it became unavailable immediately. I made another reservation two weeks after this has happened, and today we have arrived at the reserved time spot and a lady said that they cannot give a table for outer terrace. This time I didn't leave and insisted so a gentleman came and helped at the end. There's definitely something about their reservation and table organizing system. As a level 7 guide, I strongly suggest everyone who plans to make a reservation here to be careful about this! After all this the food was really perfect! We have tried the followings: Crab Soup, Caesar Salad, Green Curry Noodles w/Chicken, Sebastian, Grilled Pulpo, Riley and the Smash Burger. All was fantastic. Both the looks and e tastes were awesome. I may clearly say there are real professionals in the kitchen and the serving personnel are great but not the same for the organization about the reservation and the tables setup.

The food is really not that great. Don’t come here for that. Come here for the great view of the Amstel. The service was okay but it took ages between courses. We felt neglected sometimes even.

It's an amazing mix of a very beautiful location, womderful view on the river and a super slow service witha kind of junk overpriced food. We were waiting for our order for almost an hour, they are offering Cesar Salads with nothing, even tomatos are not included, they upsell you chicken or salmon, but at the end of the day the salad does not taste.at.all as it's composed really cheap, made to 80% of the green salad. Guys should really.learn, how Cesar salad should be cocked. The team is very young, including chef, just.making money on the location. But yes, the interior is nice and waiter are.kind.

The restaurant is by the waterside so that earns it high marks for atmosphere. Food is on the decent side, though nothing super amazing. God choice to have a fancy dinner in Amsterdam. Might have earned 4 stars but I saw something that really freaked me out. I saw someone dressing the food up by using his bare hands to spread the vegetables over our main meals🙆🏾‍♂️😱. Not sure if that's what happens at all restaurants, but the fact this one was happening right in plain view meant I saw something I could not unsee and that ruined the whole experience for me. Certainly can't win any awards for hygiene.

Had a delicious and fun Mother's Day brunch here. Beautiful place on the Amstel with a nice terrace. Smooth and pleasant service and tasty dishes. Definitely recommended!

Simply unacceptable service. I am sorry for the (undexperienced) waitresses who have to work under Priscilla. She is arrogant and if my expierence is how she usually works, then she should really change profession. Shame because this place could really be an "Ode to Amstel", but unfortunately not until the service remains like this.

Went for lunch and since nobody came to our table to take our orders after 30 minutes we had to go inside and order the food at the barre. After that, we had to wait another 20 /25 minutes for the starters to arrive, and then another 30/ 35 minutes for the main courses. On top of that Priscilla (one of the waiters working there) was super rude to us when we asked if there was a problem with the food because we have been waiting already for so long. She started almost screaming saying that she didn’t care if we had the food or not, I had to intervene and tell her to please stop arguing. It was not a pleasant experience to be honest, I think this person should take a course on how to treat costumers because I understand one can be tired but to start a scene like that after a simple question and arriving to the point of being disrespectful is not okay.

The food was OK, but there was a lack of good proactive service, tables were not occupied, but reserved according to the staff. Then ordered food on the boat and free tables were not filled. No bread or drink to get through the hour of waiting time. Very slow for a burger, salad and eggplant. Shame.

The food and the place was amazing, the only thing that I hated is the service the blond guy was very slow and not welcoming at all to us and my husband goes 2 time to him to take menu and to order coffee because he didn’t asked us what you like to drink!! But I want to thank the lady who served us later her name is Jaeden I think she was sweet and fast server and smiling and welcoming 😊

Went here with a group of colleagues. They had a shrunk down version of the menu as we were with such a big group, but everything that was on there tasted great! I had the braised veal which really was amazing. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice in this place. Overall had a great time, so they deserve my 5 stars!

It was quiet for a Friday evening, only a few tables occupied. I don't know it that way, but I've usually been there in the summer and it's a great terrace location. Well yes. Food was good, although the execution could sometimes be better (very firm 'foam' in one dish) and some combinations were a bit difficult. And the prices are high for what you get. Not quite too expensive, but it comes close.

The service was very friendly and worked in a timely and responsive manner. The atmosphere was pleasant and the view beautiful. Highly recommended!

Despite some last minute changes in the menu (on Boxing Day) and our party due to illness, the staff remained very understanding and friendly. The food was delicious and the service excellent. Recommended!

Sad how customers are treated here... Confusion with a booking far in advance - and without a formal commitment - followed up with legal action and a threatening tone. If this is how you have to earn your money... good luck...

Superb location. Smooth and very friendly service. I'm not a "big eater", but even for me the portions are too small. You cannot fill your stomach with 5 mini Brussels sprouts, a small piece of mushrooms (not cooked enough) and a thin strip of meat. Sounds strange, but I was tempted to order another main meal. Not done because the prices are also too high for both food and drinks. It was a weekday evening and the place was well occupied. So this formula apparently works, but not for me (us)

We loved this place, overlooks the Amstel Canal, got a seat on the deck with no reservation, lovely waiter, had great food. After a couple of hectic days in Rome, this was a nice change of pace, kicking back with a couple of beers & watching the world float by. Highly recommend!!

The food was absolutely phenomenal, the chef came out to speak to us about the dishes. The flavor of each dish was shockingly good, and the service and ambience top notch.

The location is really nice. It is 5 mins walking from Amstel station. The restaurant is located on Amstel river with a nice terrace. You can even come by boat and park the boat there. The atmosphere is nice. The service is slow because of lack of staff. The staff speaks English and Dutch. The toilets are clean. I wish if they have more vegan and vegetarian options.

We wanted coffee and cake on the terrace, coffee is allowed on the terrace, cake is not very strange, why do you have a terrace, you have to deliver food there, what a strange situation.

A restaurant in a beautiful location, but which cannot live up to expectations. Slow, unrepresentative and uninterested service and no knowledge of the menu. A raw burger that eventually had to be returned and loud house music from 9 am, which irritated several guests along with us.

Restaurant with a lot of pretensions, but unfortunately they are not fully fulfilled. It's in a great location and everything looks great, so that's a good thing. However, the food is not much special for the price you pay. I had the eggplant as a main course and it was tasty, but the bean paste that came with it was quite bland. Fries were fine. The hamburger my friends had could be described as adequate. The service was friendly, but not very attentive. There are many waiters walking around, but it was not clear to me what exactly they do. In addition, the waiter at the table next to us had given the starters incorrectly to that table, only because he insisted on doing all the orders from memory. Stop being so proud and just write down orders! These kinds of things so often go wrong in the catering industry.

We were here on a sunny day for lunch. We order a club sando and a “twaalfuurtje”, which here is a shrimp croquet and a crab based soup. Both were good. The views and the deck make it so relaxed - service was also very friendly. And we all know Amsterdam is not always like that! They also have some meeting rooms that can be used upstairs.

Uitstekende kaart, toplocatie en ook goed parkeren in de buurt voor een redelijk bedrag. 2,5 uur voor €12. Je moet je wel even verdiepen in de juiste locatie en waar dan te parkeren. Topniveau bediening, goed ingewerkt en professioneel en vriendelijk. Beperkte maar veelzijdige kaart met heerlijke gerechten. Het prijsniveau is voor een toplocatie in Amsterdam passend maar verwacht hier geen goedkoop diner. Je zit dan we op een toplocatie aan de Amstel en ziet alle boten voorbij varen. Je kun met de boot aan het terras aanleggen, en dan ben je gelijk binnen. Uiteraard wel reserveren. Warm aanbevolen, ook de wijnkaart is goed en redelijk geprijsd.
