Had a delicious meal on a beautiful terrace by the Amstel... Ordered a Salade Niçoise, delicious!

The food is truly substandard for the prices you pay. We had two four-course menus, a few glasses of wine, and two bottles of sparkling water (8 euros each) and spent 180 euros. The food falls far short of what you would expect for these prices. The same can be said of the service. Abrupt and bordering on rude. A 10% tip? They couldn't even manage a 'thank you' or a 'have a nice evening'. Never again for us. Otherwise, it is a very nice place to sit, but that is about it.

Lovely restaurant and super friendly staff! If it's sunny weather you can sit outside (on chairs or a couch) and enjoy the sun and "Amstel" waters. The food is amazing! Very special ingredients to make your visit incredible.

We dined there on July 2nd, just the two of us. We chose the 5-course dinner. The service was substandard; it took a long time, passion was lacking, and the "did you enjoy it?" was missing. Cutlery was brought three times only after the dish had been served. The food: okay dishes, not really inspiring, though portions are large. The location: it is a beautiful restaurant with a nice setting. We sat upstairs right by the window, which was a tad warm; the draft wasn't quite right. (24 degrees outside)

We visited Ode aan de Amstel with a group of more than 20 people for a surprise celebration. The location itself is beautiful, right on the water, and the snack platters we ordered were tasty, so the venue certainly has potential. Unfortunately, the service was very disappointing and overshadowed the evening. As the weather changed and the wind became very strong, it got uncomfortably cold outside. Despite there being plenty of space inside, we were repeatedly refused permission to move indoors, even just to sit at the bar. The section of the terrace that had been allocated to us also looked unprepared. Tables and chairs were stacked or scattered around, making the space feel untidy rather than suitable for a private group celebration. There were no cups, cutlery, or plates provided, even though we had ordered snack boards that required them. One of the staff members, a gentleman who served us, was friendly and helpful throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for the lady serving us. She appeared irritated the entire time and made us feel as though serving our group was an inconvenience rather than welcoming us as guests. The most disappointing moment came at the end of the evening. The celebration was a surprise, yet instead of bringing the bill to me, the person who had organised the entire event and had been communicating with the staff throughout the night, it was handed directly to the guest of honour, completely spoiling the surprise. It’s a shame because the venue itself is lovely, but the lack of hospitality and professionalism made this a disappointing experience. I would not recommend Ode aan de Amstel for hosting a group event.

On June 20th last, we visited your restaurant in Amsterdam. A beautiful location, lovely seating by the Amstel. However, the service and the waiting time defied all imagination. For instance, we had to wait well over an hour before the main course arrived at the table. According to a waiter who spoke to us three-quarters of an hour after the order had been taken, there was a miscommunication with the kitchen and, moreover, there was confusion about what we had ordered. Having to wait another fifteen minutes after that… We almost walked out. Furthermore, homemade bitterballen (of which the quality was substandard) were then brought to the table, while shrimp croquettes had been ordered. Could the cause of this problem not have been the attention paid to the Dutch national football team in the kitchen, at the expense of proper customer service?? Disappointed, we paid and left the establishment immediately. Not worth repeating and an extremely negative experience. A pity! Regards, Johan

Advertising takeaway from the water, but when you arrive they inform you it’s not available and they’re full (although there’s a lot of space). Remove the signs if you’re not doing takeaway.

Very nice terrace on the Amstel. That’s about all there is to say. Lukewarm SPS water and ice cubes were a drain on the staff. (30 degrees Celsius) There wasn't an ice bucket either, because that is only for guests with wine. The mocktails on the menu were sold out and it was €16 for 12 mediocre bitterballen (the vegan ones were sold out too). The staff's only excuse was that it had been busy all day. We were going to stay for dinner, but left after the bitterballen. Never again.

Went on the Amex deal for lunch - the location is great - overlooking the water. The food was really tasty and flavourful, but it didn't' help balance the absolutely shockingly slow and poor service. It took over 2.5hrs for our 3 course meal to be served - waiting 40-45min per course. Each time we asked for wine they forgot about us and we had to remind them, only to get some wine maybe 5-10min later. I would not recommend coming here if you are in a rush... clearly the kitchen can't cope with the volume - and clearly the waiters just don't care about their clients.

I was a regular, but recently the hospitality is missing, and the staff at the gate, the gentleman is arrogant, we, his clients are not his employee or anything at his disposal and he talked to us as if he doesn’t care about the reputation he left behind. He was laughing at my feedback. I decided to discuss it here. It was about his attitude, how he speaks, not what he says. I myself work in a client facing industry too, knowing that being arrogant chases clients away, i was surprised this happened. Noticing bad reviews come from minority groups, i can’t help thinking about the color of our skin, is it discrimination or we could be tourists? Actually many expats work nearby so reputation does matter. I will not recommend this restaurant any more.

I have been to this place multiple times with my colleagues and always enjoyed the atmosphere. However, our experience today was deeply disappointing and unsettling. ​When we asked if we could switch to an available table, a staff member flatly refused us with an incredibly rude attitude. Shortly after, a waitress pressured us to order before even handing us the menus. To make matters worse, when we were finally ready to order, we were completely ignored by the staff. Feeling unwelcome and neglected, we ultimately decided to leave. ​I sincerely hope this was just an isolated incident of poor service and not racially motivated. However, after seeing similar reviews from other Asian customers mentioning the same cold treatment, I cannot help but wonder. As returning customers, we expected much better. We will not be coming back.

Nice lunch spot if you have an excessive amount of time (and budget). Service is infrequent and slow, and the dishes are small. Two courses are necessary, and you will definitely be here for two hours. Unsuitable for a business lunch. Nicely decorated, though.

We usually reserve the entire first floor for a private dinner every year during a trade show. It's always excellent, no complaints. Great venue, warm welcome, impeccable service, and delicious food. There's a choice of three starters (vegetarian, meat, fish) and three main courses, plus a single dessert. The restaurant closes at 11 pm. I highly recommend it.

We made a reservation using the Amex card. Unfortunately, the entire place was full with just one group, except for three tables. This was not conducive to a good atmosphere. The dishes were clearly smaller than the items on the menu. The starter contained an enormous amount of fresh peppers. When we pointed this out to the otherwise very nice waitresses, we were only told: "I will pass it on." When settling the bill, we were asked if we enjoyed the meal. We replied that it wasn't great. They said they would pass this on as well. Unfortunately, this restaurant does not take comments seriously. For us, this is a good reason not to return here.

The terrace is great, lovely by the water. A real plus. The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu isn't very extensive. I had a smashed hamburger that was lukewarm; I got the impression it had been sitting there for a while. The fries that came with it were very hard (you have to like that) and impossible to pierce with a fork. Having a beer on the terrace is fine, but the food really needs to improve.

We had lunch here with three people. The location is fantastic, but I found the food quite pricey and too meager for what you pay; for one of the bestsellers, namely the club sandwich, you pay almost €20 and you get more lettuce and bread than actual chicken on your plate. I understand that it has to be profitable at a location like this, but then charge a few euros more and just serve a well-filled sandwich. The Chardonnay was very tasty. The service was perfectly fine, but next time I'll go back to a place where you also get value for money in terms of food…

5/5 Had dinner outside on the terrace, it was absolutely fantastic! Good, attentive service, tasty food, and a nice atmosphere. Good background music that wasn't too loud. The food itself was great; relatively small portions but very filling. Highly recommended, especially when the weather is nice 🙌🏼

Fantastic location, friendly service and delicious dishes

The restaurant is located in a forgotten corner; you don't just stumble upon it. That's why I didn't know about it yet, even though I've lived in the neighborhood for 20 years. Upon entering: you would go here just for the location and the view alone, regardless of whether it's any good or not. But no, everything else is top-notch too! I popped in briefly in the afternoon to ask for a table by the window, but that wasn't actually necessary because almost all the tables are positioned along the window. Otherwise, everything was tip-top: the friendly service, the quality of the dishes, and last but not least, the price. We will definitely be back!

Very cozy restaurant where you can enjoy a good meal. The tuna sandwich was delicious, and the asparagus soup was flavorful. Friendly and efficient staff. Nice outdoor terrace.

Went for drinks with friends and were treated terribly. The people working there really need to work on their attitude because this is unacceptable, we were looked up and down, for god knows what reason. Once we were seated they didn’t even cleaned the table/ seats, and there were leftover from previous customers.The wait to get the menu was crazy long even tho the place wasn’t that busy. And once we got the menu they never came to get our orders, even after calling them a few times, they always looked the other way. After 20 minutes of waiting, and a total of half an hour there, we just left, and they even told us, oh are you guys moving. It’s a shame because the place is really nice and I was looking for a place to celebrate my birthday, and it’s not even necessary to day that it’s not gonna be that one. Oh, and the toilets are dirty as hell, and there was no soap.

The location is fantastic. The food is tasty, but the service is truly terrible. Everything takes a very long time with the excuse that it is busy. But 2 colas shouldn't take 40 minutes.

We had a delicious lunch there. Unique dishes. No standard fare. Beautifully presented and it tasted delicious. We had a white wine with it that tasted particularly good.

Great dinner in lovely place. Cosy. The starters were quite good, the tartar steak was with some mixture wlof fish that gave a good unique taste, the burrata was small portion. The risotto was quite good with crispy bacon and the fish of the day was hake that was 😋. Dessert was apple cake or apple strudel. Price per person 60 euros

We had to wait half an hour before our small order was taken. Ten minutes after ordering, they realized that what we wanted to order was out of stock. Then we had to wait another ten minutes for 2 drinks, and the small snack we had ordered arrived when the drinks were finished (another 10-15 minutes later). In short, very poor service! Rarely have I experienced anything like this.

Unwelcoming place without a soul. Unfriendly reception and on autopilot. Sorry that we chose your establishment to be your guests. And no, we really didn't come to your amazing terrace to *not* order a drink, pffff. The Verdejo was sold out (on Sunday afternoon). Very sad. Another glass of white wine for 9 euros (!) could still be served. Dutch bitter garnish tasteless and served in a pathetic soup bowl. Next time we'll just go back to one of the other places along the Amstel, where they are actually happy to have guests.

The food was fine, nice enough but overpriced. Service was also ok - friendly enough but a little vacant. Went in the middle of a cold and wet winter evening so couldn’t enjoy the location. However, I do expect it to be lovely on a sunny afternoon.

I recently dined here with my team of around 30 people. The food was extremely meager, in terms of volume. The service was also almost nonexistent. If the one person serving us had come by more often, this business could have generated more revenue. It's almost incomprehensible how this all happened: any professionalism from the restaurant was completely absent. It seemed like they weren't taking it seriously.

Fantastic experience! Even though we came with a Social Deal, we truly felt like guests: the service was attentive and the atmosphere was great. The selection of three starters and main courses was well-balanced, and each plate was prepared with visible care. The dessert was the perfect ending. We will definitely be back.

I went for dinner with a few friends, and we had a really great time. It was raining that day, but we still had a beautiful view. The service was fantastic, and the beef salad was delicious. This was my second time here, and I'll definitely be back.

We went there for a dinner in a small group. The place has nice decor with gentle lightening that give it a very cozy ambience. Food was just fine in terms of flavor though the presentation is notable. They have an expansive wine list, so a definite plus if you are into wines. As it was cold outside, we couldn't enjoy the view from the terrace - though this might be a reason to come back.

Updating my review to share some new photos from my latest visit. Ode aan de Amstel has been one of my favorite restaurants for special occasions — I’ve visited six times for the 5-course menu and have always loved its creativity and refinement. I’ve kept some photos from previous visits to show how good the dishes used to look and taste. Unfortunately, the quality seems to have dropped again in my last two or three visits. Some dishes were unbalanced (one too salty, another underseasoned, and the pork belly disappointing in texture). Maybe I was just unlucky, but for €63 (excluding drinks), the overall experience no longer feels worth it. I truly hope the restaurant regains the finesse and consistency that once made it stand out.

We had a great lunch here! The food was tasty, with a nice yeasty flavor and something for everyone. The staff was super friendly, and the pricing was very good for the quality. The restaurant is also in a great location. It was pretty empty during our visit, but it gets busier in the evenings. Definitely recommend checking it out.

The service is a bit hesitant, or is that intentional?

I’ve been here multiple times with family. The food is delicious and the terras is perfect for a weekend brunch when the weather is good. The service friendliness varies from time to time, but overall nice experience. It’s a stable place for us to come back to.

We tried the Sunday brunch which was very good. The scone was served with sour rather than clotted cream but was pretty good. No tea was served as part of the meal (a large pot would have been nice...). The eggs Benedict, French toast with strawberries and canelé with tropical fruit were also very good. The service was relaxed - I guess we could have been served faster if we were asked. The (decaf) coffee is really good!

The food is always very well and . here we for lunch we hax octopus, Caesar salad, oysters. White wines are also on point. If I had to think of really one improvement could be some variation in your cocktails list.

A year ago we celebrated our wedding here and it was fantastic! Now, on our first wedding day, we were greeted by chef Carolina who had recognized our names on the reservation. We had an amazing 3-course dinner and a sweet surprise at the end. Everybody was so nice to us! 🥰 The food is great, the people are great. I can highly recommend this location for both events and regular dining. Many thanks to the staff who made our specials days even more special ❤️

Visited on a warm and sunny day and, oh boy, what a place right next to/ in the water! It's able to completely open its glass facade, facing the water, allowing a smooth breeze to cool you down. Cushions and pillows to relax and great, happy people to serve you their great food.

Delicious food and beautiful views along the water.

Everything was great till towards the end when we (a family of 3, with my little one 20 months old) felt that we were rushed to finish the dish and leave even though the whole restaurant is quite empty. Not sure if this is common Dutch service level, but we certainly don’t appreciate if someone come over within 5-10 mins to check on our last dish and even ask if we want to pack and go. Is this normal, guys? Help me understand the rationale here. Reply to the comment: 1. There is no language barrier as we both are speaking and typing in English. 2. The question was do you want to pack and go, and not if you want any dessert. 3. If we have finished our food, then why we were asked if we want to pack and go. I understand you are trying to de-escalate, but please don’t push the feedback back to your customer but instead, do something concrete, all these above are concrete actual feedback.

Beautiful place, especially in the summer, when you can sit on their lovely terrace or moor your boat. We recently went for a business lunch. Food: The smoked eel was decent, but the beetroot was overpowering. The Cubanito and Ode's Burger were fine, nothing special. With some water and a coke, it was €100 for two people. Service: We sat on the terrace for over 2.5 hours and had to ask several times if we could order something. There were plenty of staff around, but they were mainly busy with other things like setting tables and arranging things. Our plates and glasses were left on the table. When I wanted to pay, I was asked to go inside myself for the bill and to pay; something you don't expect at a place like Ode aan de Amstel.

Sad! Here you go. There's plenty of room to sit. Then you hear there's no room. Simply awful. They don't appreciate this and I really don't want to wish these people any good. It's a shame, I hope you change in the future.

We dined here again and it was excellent. Good, tasty dishes and friendly, attentive service. And excellent wines! If you sit by the window, you have a fantastic view of the Amstel River. We'll definitely be back!

The establishment offers an enjoyable dining experience with an exceptional view of the Amstel River. However, the provision of additional sun protection on the waterfront terrace would enhance the comfort of guests on sunny days.

Beautiful location. Service was rather mediocre; we arrived at 7:00 PM and didn't receive our main course until 9:25 PM. The food was very mediocre. The location has a lot of potential but needs a good entrepreneur to turn it into something beautiful. In the end, they resolved the issue by offering a discount on the bill.

If you're looking for something upscale, this is the place for you... A great meal is complemented by a view. The restaurant is practically a restaurant on the water... You can enjoy small snacks and drinks on the terrace and enjoy the beautiful view of the water. Large meals are served indoors, as seagulls might stop by on the terrace and not ask if they can try...

Excellent for a moment of relaxation and aperitifs

You sit beautifully on the terrace on the Amstel. Unfortunately, there were a lot of large groups eating when we were there, which affects the atmosphere and attention of the service. The food is good, with nice weather you sit there beautifully as said and if there are no large groups the atmosphere is probably also great!

Food was fine, not very special. Very inexperienced service. We had to keep asking where our food/drinks were. We also had to wait a very long time for the food of one of our friends while the rest already had everything due to a mistake by the chef/service. When you asked something about the menu our waiter shrugged his shoulders and said yes no idea I just got in. And made no attempt to find out.

The food is really not that great. Don’t come here for that. Come here for the great view of the Amstel. The service was okay but it took ages between courses. We felt neglected sometimes even.

This is my second time with the reservation. First time they said they can not give us a table outside, even though my reservation was for the outer terrace and we needed to leave. At that time their reservation system was open but it became unavailable immediately. I made another reservation two weeks after this has happened, and today we have arrived at the reserved time spot and a lady said that they cannot give a table for outer terrace. This time I didn't leave and insisted so a gentleman came and helped at the end. There's definitely something about their reservation and table organizing system. As a level 7 guide, I strongly suggest everyone who plans to make a reservation here to be careful about this! After all this the food was really perfect! We have tried the followings: Crab Soup, Caesar Salad, Green Curry Noodles w/Chicken, Sebastian, Grilled Pulpo, Riley and the Smash Burger. All was fantastic. Both the looks and e tastes were awesome. I may clearly say there are real professionals in the kitchen and the serving personnel are great but not the same for the organization about the reservation and the tables setup.

It's an amazing mix of a very beautiful location, womderful view on the river and a super slow service witha kind of junk overpriced food. We were waiting for our order for almost an hour, they are offering Cesar Salads with nothing, even tomatos are not included, they upsell you chicken or salmon, but at the end of the day the salad does not taste.at.all as it's composed really cheap, made to 80% of the green salad. Guys should really.learn, how Cesar salad should be cocked. The team is very young, including chef, just.making money on the location. But yes, the interior is nice and waiter are.kind.

The restaurant is by the waterside so that earns it high marks for atmosphere. Food is on the decent side, though nothing super amazing. God choice to have a fancy dinner in Amsterdam. Might have earned 4 stars but I saw something that really freaked me out. I saw someone dressing the food up by using his bare hands to spread the vegetables over our main meals🙆🏾‍♂️😱. Not sure if that's what happens at all restaurants, but the fact this one was happening right in plain view meant I saw something I could not unsee and that ruined the whole experience for me. Certainly can't win any awards for hygiene.
