The best halal restaurant in Amsterdam! I visited Papa Ali Restaurant and it was an excellent experience in every way. The service is top-notch from the moment you walk in; you immediately feel welcome, like you're with family. The staff is very friendly and goes above and beyond to please their customers. I tried the shawarma, the chicken special, and the kebab, and honestly, each dish was better than the last! The flavor is fantastic, the spices are perfect, and the food is fresh and hot. The portions are also more than adequate for the price. I highly recommend Papa Ali Restaurant to anyone visiting Amsterdam. In my opinion, it has the tastiest and best halal food in the city, and it definitely deserves more than 5 stars, both for the service and the quality of the food. Thank you to Papa Ali Restaurant for this wonderful experience! I will definitely become a regular, in shaa Allah.

I visited this place recently, the food and the service was absolutely amazing. The gentleman running the place was really helping and generious. I would recommend this place 10/10 times when visiting Amsterdam.

A horrible experience. The old man we found in reception was "zero" in service, we asked him if his shawarma is good his answer was "you shouldn't ask me this question, check our reviews online with unpleasant voice tone. Still, we went inside thinking probably he bad and long day we excuse him. But when served us food he almost thrown it on us. We tasted it and the taste wasn't good. We took one bite and left it on the table moving to another restaurant to have a good dinner which we did. If you look for quality of both food and service avoid this place.

I travel a lot and have tried many restaurants around the world. I was excited to try this place for my first time in Amsterdam after seeing it on Google Maps, especially since I’m originally from the Middle East and was looking forward to some authentic halal food. Unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. I visited on September 19th around 10:00 pm. When I asked an older man working there (brown-skinned, bald) if they had shawarma and whether it was good, his responses were very rude and impolite. Instead of answering politely, he acted as if I was bothering him. His attitude made me feel unwelcome, like I should just “eat or leave.” I work in the hotel industry and know how important hospitality and customer service are. Even if the food is good, the way customers are treated matters. A simple question like “Is this normal shawarma or something different?” should not lead to an argument. Because of this negative interaction, I decided not to eat my order and left very disappointed. If this restaurant wants more customers, they need to improve their customer service.

Friendly owner and fast service. There was warm bread as a small appetizer, followed by the main course. We had shawarma with spaghetti and shawarma with rice. The meat was a bit dry, but with the sauces that came with the bread, it tasted good. The portions were generous. Unfortunately, despite the open windows, some smoke from the cooking built up on the upper floor. But that's simply due to the layout of the shop. Ultimately, the food was quick and good. It was just what we needed after a long day at the SAiL.

Very bad quality food. Rubbish menu to match. Let my friend pick a spot. We both just ate the chips and left the rest. Not fresh. But how can shawarma not be fresh, I wonder. Very rarely have I wasted food. But this was not edible therefore forced to leave this review. Owners please do better with the food quality, this level food cannot be served. Forget that we're paying €20+ per person. It's not about the money

A real favorite! The owner, an incredibly kind Egyptian, welcomed us as if we were family. You can tell he loves sharing his culture and his dishes: everything was delicious, fresh, and generous. The atmosphere is warm, and we took the time to chat and laugh between bites. We left with a full stomach and a smile on our faces. A place to treasure!

the owner is so friendly! We ordered three dishes and all were amazing, on top of the free bread, sauce, two sodas, and water that was given to us on the house. The restaurant is also open for 18 hours a day from 1pm to 4am or 5am. it is halal and they don't serve alcohol which is rare to find.

Really enjoyed eating here! The flavors were just right, and every dish felt thoughtfully made, smelled great, looked nice, and tasted amazing in every bite. The owner was friendly and helpful without being pushy, which made the whole meal really relaxing. Easy 5 stars.

Stopped by while in Amsterdam and was genuinely impressed. The food is great, prices are reasonable, and the location is super convenient. What really stood out, though, was Baba Ali himself. Incredibly kind and welcoming. He treats with genuine warmth. That kind of hospitality is rare and made the whole experience even better. This restaurant is the definition of consistency. I’ve been coming here for over a year now, and I’ve never had a bad meal. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner, the quality is always top-tier. The menu isn’t huge, but what they do, they do really well. The pancakes are fluffy and rich, the sandwiches come with crispy fries, and the coffee is strong and smooth. Service is quick, the tables are clean, and they remember regulars by name. That kind of attention to detail makes all the difference. It's my go-to spot for comfort food with great service.

Unfortunately, we were scammed. The owner simply overcharged us, and when we asked why, he just laughed brazenly and made up some ridiculous stories.

Bread costs €2 extra. Canned drinks cost €7 and are not on the menu.

Dude was very nice to me! I arrived cause I was craving some kabob and I got myself the mixed plate. It was a big portion and delicious! I ate it all pretty quick! I am Mexican and I approve of this restaurant! Btw to the owner, I am the dude who arrived with suitcases and stuffed animal snakes 🐍
