How wonderful to discover a French restaurant in The Hague! Excellent quality, we ordered authentic French dishes and were satisfied. The prices weren't cheap, but they were reasonable. We hope to return!

After drinks at De Oude Mol, slipped into Pastis next door. Plates solid (Niçoise + confit de canard both on point), pommes dauphinoise the necessary addition, service sharper than the Dutch baseline. Pricey, yes — but show me a place that isn’t these days.

Had a lovely French dinner in a cozy setting. The service was spot on!

Excellent French, a little noisy

I was satisfied to the bill arrived, the bill of 124 euros for a couple! Price of steak Rossini wasn't in the menu and was not clearly stated to be 48 euros, was a shock!

A very good experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious, beautifully and carefully presented. The service was good; the waitress knew the third red wine on the menu without even looking at the menu, and she was also very friendly. The atmosphere was great. Definitely recommended for a meal!

Delicious food with friendly staff!

You really feel like you are in France… The scallops and steak frites are finger-licking good and the ice cream at the Moelleux, which is bursting with vanilla, is formidable. The service is very cordial, the wines are good and generously poured, and the price-quality ratio is more than fine.

This place is more French-themed than actually French. Dishes feel adjusted to the north-european palate in my opinion. The lights and the bad acoustics are likely to give you a headache. However still, this place is a safe bet to take a group of people or your date on a casual night. It is open every day of the week and you will have decent quality food and wine even if nothing spectacular.

The escargot was okay. The steak was tiny for what it cost, and the taste was also okay, wasn't amazing. The bill ended up being about 120eur (for two) but we left the restaurant still hungry (we ordered 2 steak dishes, 6pc escargot, shared 1 dessert, and a couple of drinks). The vibe was nice inside, the interior design was spot on, and the service was great, but I honestly don't think that price is justified for that quality and amount of food..

Treat yourself, go on. Wonderful place. My second time here. First time alone and ate at the bar, second time with colleagues. Highly recommend going. And do try more than one pastis.

Lovely restaurant, however the main course was a little salty

Quite disappointing. Had the steak with frites which was not cooked how we asked, and the mussels which had a weird greenish colour. One of the waitresses came and moved all the stuff on our table, including cutlery, to make space, didn’t find that very polite or hygienic. Not worth the money.

What a lovely restaurant. There is a casual, busy and friendly atmosphere in a French bistro setting, the service was attentive, kind and efficient and the food and wine good. The menu is uncomplicated classic French prepared and cooked well and all that for a remarkably reasonable price.

Got robbed at the restaurant because the coat section wasn’t looked after and the door to the private dining area was constantly left open by the waiters. DO NOT BOOK FOR PRIVATE EVENTS

Enjoyed lovely meal in a great atmosphere. Food was good and tasty (but not amazing). Service was very kind but could also be improved. E.g. with our table not leaving any room for the bottle of wine, filling up our glas required to gain attention from the waitress. Bottom line I was not disappointed at all and enjoyed the atmosphere but value for money is could be better.

I walked in this evening at 7pm and with much fanfare was told I might have a spot at the bar for one for 60 minutes. I was surprised that all the bar seats were reserved, but ok (noted: only two places were set). I made my order immediately - oysters, soup, salad. I was anxious and did not wish to inconvenience customers coming at 8pm. Dishes arrived and at 7:30 I spoke to the person who seated me (who seemed to be in charge) and asked about the time left and she said there would be enough time (not that there was no need to rush because there were no actual bookings at the bar and no deadline - which soon became clear). By 7:50 I noted that I had not received my final course and was told, "it's ok - we will make it work." Imagine enjoying a meal under these circumstances. Well, guess what. No one ever came for those bar seats. I left at 8:15+ and there were no customers. What could have been a lovely leisurely meal (and longer still) was a stressed-out nonsensefest. This was a miserable demonstration of "hospitality". Also - food entirely mediocre. BLEH.

Delicious and authentic French food and fantastic service and atmosphere - couldn’t recommend more.

Overall, I had a good experience. I ordered the duck confit. I had never tried this dish before, as I don't usually order duck. However, the waitress recommended this dish to me, and I love chicken, so I got it. I enjoyed it and was happy with the recommendation. They serve bread and butter while you wait for your food, which was of great quality and delicious. They even had their own Pastis branding on the butter packaging, which was super cute and professional. I didn't give the restaurant five stars for two reasons: It's not the best for solo patrons. 1) Crowded atmosphere. When I got there, it was very awkward because the restaurant was crowded and the host seemed stressed from the crowd + working multiple jobs within the restaurant (She ended up serving me too. She was wonderful but I did not get her name). The restaurant is super small, so I felt like I was standing on stage and everyone could see me. I dined here for dinner, so it was dark outside. The lights in the restaurant were fully on, so sitting at the bar felt like everyone was watching. It was a bit uncomfortable, so I ate my food as quickly as possible. 2) I went to this restaurant specifically for the Côte de boeuf, which looks outstanding from images I'd seen in other Google reviews. However, at the restaurant, I learned that this dish is only served to two people. It'd be too large and expensive to order as one person. The waitress was kind enough to ask the chef if they could cook a half-order for me, but the chef declined. I was very sad. Also, this dish is not on the print menu.

It took 15 minutes to get a drinks menu. The other guests were incredibly loud. Very poor acoustics. Half-way during dinner a group of very loud men was moved to the table next to us. They were drunk and bumped into us multiple times. Had a bad time. The food was nice though.

Delicious food, we were a bit early so the restaurant was still a bit empty but it filled up quickly. A bit noisy, but otherwise delicious food and drinks.

I found the main course, steak & fries, a little disappointing. Everything else was great, service, wine, dessert, atmosphere. Definitely worth repeating!

After all the stories I tried it myself. You feel like you are in France in this busy shop. Nice service. Unfortunately I was less enthusiastic about the food. Both the fries and the fish were very greasy and were heavy on the stomach for the rest of the evening.

It's a shame to serve fries like at MC Donald's... The mussels were not of very good quality, not fleshy and dry...The veal was, 2/3 full of nerves and inedible, the sauce which accompanied it on the other hand was very good A French brasserie atmosphere but the food is not up to par. The service was impeccable and the young woman who took care of us was very smiling and professional.

Not as good as it used to be: more expensive, less food. We have been going here for years but haven't been for quite a while, it's now a little disappointing. We had a lovely evening as always at Pastis, but it just wasn't as good as it used to be. The waitresses were great, and they even gave us a free drink to make up for the delayed food...however the portion sizes are about half the size of previously and the prices have also gone up. I understand it is tough for restaurants at the moment, but the experience really didn't match the price. We had to wait a long time for food, my starter came out a good 5-10 minutes after my parter's starter and the potato dish with my main arrived after I'd almost finished it. All in all, still a nice experience with food and good staff, but I'm not convinced it's worth the price anymore. Very small portions for big prices.

Unfortunately nowhere near as good as it used to be. Service was very slow, we wouldn't have minded but the portions were half what you used to get and a lot more expensive. The waitresses did a good job but the side orders came out at the end of the meal. They offered a free drink to apologise for this, but overall the experience was a bit disappointing. We'd booked it for a special occasion so it was especially disappointing. We probably won't return after this, which is a shame after giving it 5 stars in the past.

Had a great evening at Pastis last night. Sancerre delicious, oysters good, duck leg great! What a nice atmosphere, good service, friendly kitchen staff. Worth repeating ;-)

The foie gras was almost tasteless. The added onions were also not tasty. The scallop appetizer consisted of only three small scallops. The confit de canard tasted great.

All the typical French bistro food is being served here. Atmosphere very lively and feels authentic. The food was tasty.

Pastis does exactly what you expect from a classic French bistro. The wonderful ambiance makes you feel like you're in Paris. Food excellent. Don't expect any culinary delights, just incredibly well-prepared French classics. Foie gras, bavette bearnaise, confit de canard, tarte tatin. All good portions and excellently prepared. Very extensive wine list with nice wines. Very smooth, friendly and correct service. Do you want a night out in Paris without taking the Thalys? Go to Pastis. Viva la France

Very good service; friendly, attentive and professional. They found a table for us without reservation. Food was quite good although fish soup on the spicy side. It was quite busy and therefore noisy for my taste, that’s the only thing that would prevent me from coming back. Otherwise recommendable.

Fantastic restaurant in one of the narrowest streets of the city center. So you are in the royal city and the next moment you really feel like you are in a bistro in the middle of Paris. Delicious food, fantastic ambiance and more than excellent service.

Atmosphere in old French bistro style, very successful. Very pleasant staff, makes the effort to understand you, quality product for the price (even if I would have liked fresh fries). I highly recommend

Eerst waren we voor een drankje naar dit gezellige restaurant gegaan. De volgende dag besloten we er te gaan dineren. Dat was een goede zet, want het eten was heerlijk, de service was zeer goed. Het is een beetje aan de dure kant, maar wel de moeite waard! De Parijse sfeer van dit etablissement is ongekend in Nederland. Erg mooi, sfeervol en gezellig! Aanrader als je in Den Haag bent en weer eens wat anders wilt dan Indonesisch eten.

Delicious food and nice atmosphere

Recently had dinner with my work team. The manager is French and chose Pastis First outside in the cozy Oude Molstraat (because too hot inside!) delicious snacks and wine. Afterwards, dinner continued in the rented, very attractive dining room on the ground floor. Great service. Delicious salads (poached egg), toast with fish pate/fish, steak tartare. Main course candied duck legs, delicious fish fried on the skin, layered potato/cheese tarts, French fries, delicious wines and finally a Frand grand dessert (profiterolles with chocolate, chocolate profiteroles, tarte Tatin, lemon meringue tarts, Moulleux aux chocolat). Absolutely great!! I can highly recommend this restaurant!

Very cute! A good French restaurant with a very nice atmosphere and interior. The food is great and the people working there are nice.

Clearly disappointed with this charming restaurant. Noisy of course, but with a beautiful window. That said, artichoke pie is just reheated frozen food. The rillettes were good, but clearly not homemade. The confit on the other hand was simply bad. Too dry to have supposedly cooked for "13 hours". The meat clung stubbornly to its bone and the duck itself was tasteless and tasteless. As for the Dauphinois gratin, as dry as duck leg, without cream or onions and served in a tiny cup. Hmmm...well don't go there for a tasting, but to fill your stomach...and yes, clearly too expensive for the quality served. We didn't try the desserts and the sole looked appetizing. The service was perfect.

Restaurant Impero Romano: erg genoten van de pasta met geflambeerde Parmesan en truffels. Wij hebben er een heerlijke fles frisse verdiccio bij gedronken! Het is wel een erg drukbezocht restaurant en dus behoorlijk lawaaierig, niet ideaal voor een romantische tête-à-tête dus. Je kunt ook maar beter reserveren, want anders dreig je van een kale reis thuis te komen

We had dinner here on Friday night. I've ordered a onion soup for starters, a steak with bearnaise sauce as a main. The onion soup was incredibly sweet and salt was not able to save this dish. We've waited for more than an hour for our mains, which was a very small, dry and tasteless steak, some french fries and a mediocre sauce for about 30 euro's. It was dry, tasteless and the plating was just sad. It was very crowded and we had to scream at eachother, otherwise we couldn't hear a word that was being said. Even from up close, it was hard to hear the people at our own table. People kept bumping into our chairs because there was no room for passing by. I have to say the waitresses were very friendly and helpful. They really tried their best. I would've liked to give them more stars but unfortunately the waiting time was just too much. We decided to eat our desserts elsewhere because the noise was just too much. It might have been our own fault for eating here at a Friday night, but we won't be coming back.

The atmosphere is great, the service was very busy serving a room across the street, but if we were able to 'catch' them, the service was sweet and friendly. Unfortunately, you certainly don't have to go here for the food. Just crazy expensive and not tasty at all! We were there on or about April 29. The scallops sauce was inedibly salty; the escargots were okay. The mussels I ordered were mealy. Been overcooked or frozen and went back and exchanged for a type of steak that had nothing wrong with it, which also applies to my partner's main course. There was nothing wrong with that, but certainly not Pastis-worthy. The Pastis and wines were great!

Hearty diner, warm and hospitable. Some dishes are salty and some are less, but overall good flavors and i would go again (definitely Go for the sliptong!)

Good food, but quite expensive, we had to wait 2 1/2 hours for our main course, the tables that came after us were helped earlier and left while we still had to wait for our dish. It was clear that we had been forgotten. When I mentioned this fact after our main course, a weak excuse was made that the mise en place with the green beans rolled in bacon had not gone well... As an amateur chef I know how quickly this can be prepared and I also think it is an extremely bad excuse. When there were no sincere apologies and we were given a free cup of coffee, we skipped this as well as our planned dessert that we had been looking forward to. Everything depends on an honest state of affairs, and despite the good atmosphere and good food, I will not go back to Pastis.

This is such a quaint spot in Den Haag. A very old fashioned yet charming french restaurant, as if you’re in Paris. I have been 3 times just because I can’t get their Crème Brûlée off my mind. The scallops and escargot are incredibly delicious. The sole fish was fantastic the first time I tried it, but overly salty when I went this week (hence the 4 stars). I would still love to and will come back.

Magnifique. A very nice truly French dining experience. The place is very cosy with a truly French atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We passed it many times. It is always full so we were keen to try it out ourselves. We were not disappointed at all 🥰. The dishes are great. The plates are nicely made up.

So French. We enjoyed the total experience, the welcoming, the wine, the smile from the waitress, we had scallop as starter, tartar and mussels as main, creme brulee and moelleux au chocolate as dessert.

We were having a delicious meal. After the main course we wanted to order something else. A dessert and something to drink. Unfortunately, that was no longer allowed. We had to leave because other people had reserved our table. This should be the bankruptcy of the catering industry. Unfortunately that is not the case. Doesn't matter if you order champagne, glasses of white and a bottle of red and pay €30 for plates. Ten others for you. We all accept that it no longer matters whether you want to enjoy a nice meal without looking at your watch. It's about turnover: getting through as many shifts and place settings as possible. It doesn't matter whether the customer has a good time. If you say anything: this is because of corona. Well... that sucked for all of us. The catering industry such as pastis could make use of schemes for this. We now pay a lot more due to inflation and that's fine, but then come up with factual arguments: we would like to make as much turnover as possible, regardless of how the guest experiences this, because we are always full. Then start a snack bar. Purchasing nil and turnover high. Probably working too hard. well... I'm going to cry in a corner and accept that unfortunately it will never change. Very unfortunate, because Pastis was always very nice.

A nice and small place. Small is ok, relax place but tables are small so you're missing space to have your plate and glasses.

Friendly service and nice atmosphere. Food was mediocre: toast with steak tartare was old, fries with the main course cold and there were bones in the cod. After it was indicated that there were bones in the fish, the only reaction we got was 'ohh... yes...'. We went for dessert somewhere else.

Visited this restaurant with my 2 sons.....delicious food, sublime starter, excellent main course....some small tables and very close together.....nice and fast service, all in all a perfect evening and highly recommended.

Very disappointed. Like many restaurants in Holland the meat was tender but tasteless. Profiteroles only have the name Dried Industrial Cabbages. All in a very noisy room.

Very good! From all french food restaurants i have tried in NL, this one is so far the best (I am French). The welcoming Very warm and the lady at the entrance is very friendly. The waitress was also super friendly ( Maybe because she is half french 😂) The food Very tasty! For me escargots, steak frites. For my friend St Jacques et confit de canard. Creme brûlée for both. Not disappointed AT ALL!! Delicious! I had the impression to be back in France 🇫🇷 The prices Basically, if you come from France, expect to pay double price here. ( ex: France:6 escargots around 7€. In NL 15€) Same goes for the main dishes. You see the type of client are not average. Overall Despite the price, the taste is top, the welcoming and the atmosphere is top, i really encourage you to visit this restaurant if you want to try the french flavour!

Service was quite slow at first. We had to ask for the menu ourselves, and they are not used to giving you the drinks menu with the menu (so you can choose a wine depending on the dish). It is very cramped inside, to sit on the wooden bench between the tables that are close together. There was no tablecloth... a sheet of paper covered the table. That is not a problem and is practical, but of course it makes it much less chic, or French. The drinks menu is nice, a good apéritif, digestif and wine selection. I drank the pineau de charentes blanc and rouge, and the chardonnay, very tasty. The starter was tasty. I had the arthichauk gratin, and the person I was with had the salad with gesiers, rillettes and something else. As far as I saw, the gesiers were small, cut into pieces instead of what I know from the cans from France (because I'm French). For the main course I had the fish of the day (corvina), nothing special, with a crazy sauce on the skin, and served with raw! potatoes and broccolini. My fork didn't go through those potatoes, apologies were offered by a waiter, but it's still a shame, simple ingredients that were made too quickly... The person I was with had the mussels, and didn't eat them all! I haven't seen that before. They were just very 'bland', 'fade'. No taste. The fries looked like McDonald's fries, which I liked, but they didn't. I also agree with the 'reviews' that say it is noisy in the restaurant. I didn't find the restaurant itself very impressive, it didn't look well cared for/new in certain respects. It was just okay, not great.

Excellent French themed place, makes you feel you are in Paris in the city of Den Haag. A nice French restaurant, with cozy Dutch service! The main course is on the bigger side. The escargot was our favorite for sure. It is highly recommended for a cozy and lively evening with amazing food. Also excellent service, the staff was very friendly! C'est tres bon!

Heerlijk restaurant. Er ging wat mis met het doorvoeren van het hoofdgerecht waardoor het allemaal wat langer duurde. Maar eerlijk, ik zou hier met plezier de hele dag gaan zitten wachten op een maaltijd als deze.

Gezellige Franse bistro met heerlijk eten! De sfeer is erg gezellig en de service is snel doordat ze met lekker veel mensen zijn. Ik had de vis van de dag genomen wat een oven gebakken dorade was in een frisse limoen botersaus. De vriendin met wie ik was had de eend besteld. De vis was een mega grote portie en echt een 10/10, maar de eend was aan de kleinere kant met af en toe vettige stukjes. Echter vond ze het alsnog lekker. Het is wel een klein restaurant die bijna altijd vol zit dus houd hier rekening mee.

We visited Pastis in November 2023. This was the second visit as we enjoyed the first one a couple of years ago. Thinking that the experience would be the same we we disappointed to find out that it was not. Although the food arrive on time and waiting staff were courteous, we found that several items in the menu were not available. This is somewhat unusual for a restaurant that requires reservations for the weekend. That aside, the biggest disappointment was the fact that we ordered the sole (sliptong) and one of them was undercooked, with traces of blood. At the time we reported this to the waitress who simply nodded and took no further action. We were given no acknowledgement or any follow up, which is something you’d expect in a restaurant.

Most of the food was very nice but one of the 2 fish that came with my order (sole) was quite undercooked. I didn't eat it and mentioned the (clearly visible) undercooked fish when they came to clear the table but barely got any response or follow-up.

Unimaginative, bland, loud and raw. This is how I would describe Pastis, a French bistrot restaurant that only bears a French name and falls short of a true bistrot experience. Food portions are small and plates are decorated seemingly hastily. Meanwhile, prices are high and therefore highly disproportionate given the overall food quality and portions. We had the onion soup as a starter. The onion soup was not too salty, but lacked caramelization of the onions. It tasted as if it was made a week ago and heated just before being served. For the main we had the duck breast which arrived half raw and did not have the crispy skin it should have. Instead we were served raw meat topped with a way too overpowering sauce, something your local fastfood joint might serve too. All in all, we won't come back to Pastis for our future French culinary adventures.
