Great tapas and great service. The waiters are friendly and attentive; Catherine especially stood out. Highly recommended to anyone wanting a taste of Spain in Amsterdam.

Very strange experience here..we had a great meal but at the end we noticed they added themselves an extra 30 euro tip without notifying us. When confronting the manager, he said that it’s written on the menu. That’s a lie, he couldn’t show where it was written and then changed the story by saying that staff should have warned us. It was dishonest and a very strange way to deal with the situation. We don’t mind giving a 30€ tip, but deceiving us and acting dishonestly afterwards isn’t the way. Shame as everything else was great

Don’t know what some of the other reviews are complaining about because this place is fantastic. Food is delicious, fresh and reasonably portioned & priced, inside is cool and a bit grungy, service was fast and all around a great experience. We will defs be back, great to find a good local place! Don’t know what it’s like getting a table busy times as we went around 2pm on a Saturday but they had plenty of space then :)

They charge a 10% service fee without warning customers, and hide it on the bill. FYI, it is NOT legal to charge fees without properly notifying customers ahead of time. Also, we had already given a 15€ tip, which they accepted without saying that they had already charged a 30€ service fee. It's only later that we noticed on the bill that there was this extra fee. It's a shame because otherwise the food and the vibe were nice...

Good food but they will charge 10% without telling you

Pata Negra is a good option if you're looking for Spanish flavors in Amsterdam. Although, nothing special during our lunch last September. Pros: > Steak was really good > Extensive Spanish menu options > Nicely decorated & felt like a proper Spanish tapas bar > Has their own deli counter, where you can see as they prepare your food Cons: > The food was average. Some lacked flavor > The service was very slow when we visited for a Tuesday lunch. There was only 1 staff. We were the only customers by then. > Seating can be improved with cushioned seats

Very tasty food. Staff is friendly and they also serve you fast, even during the busy evenings.

Authentic Spanish tapas, Spanish portions good for sharing

A cozy, bustling place with a Spanish atmosphere. A nice bar with a wide selection of drinks and food. A bit noisy, though.

Honestly... I was a little disappointed with the Pata Negra in Amsterdam 😕 I was really looking forward to tapas, but somehow it was all so... meh. The portions were tiny, and the bread was as hard as a rock. It was annoying from the very first bite. The service was nice, but incredibly slow – we sat there for what felt like forever before anything arrived. And then it wasn't even really warm 😩 The only thing that was halfway decent were the patatas bravas, but even those were more lukewarm than tasty. The atmosphere in the place was quite cool, with music and lights, but that doesn't redeem bad food. I'm giving it 3 out of 10 stars, simply because at least it looked pretty – unfortunately, nothing more.

We had a reservation for 6:30 PM for eight people. By 7:30 PM, they were practically turning us away because they had another reservation. We hadn't even ordered dessert or the last round of drinks. Meanwhile, other people were seated at tables who had arrived much earlier than us, and they weren't even mentioned. Don't order the "pollo al ajillo"; it tasted like KFC chicken. I even asked if they had made a mistake, but they said, "No, that's pollo al ajillo." Years ago, I ate there often, and I can assure you that what they served me this time was not pollo al ajillo.

Absolute gem in Amsterdam. Very authentic tapas atmosphere, lovely food, good service. Clearly very popular (Tuesday night and several tables were booked by large groups). Absolutely made our evening. Downside, nothing material- it was super noisy even when not full, go for the atmosphere not for a quiet chat. Would definitely return. So good.

Food was pretty shitty, as was the wine and service. The only thing that was alright was the tiny 27 euro plate of iberico ham that required no skill except for cutting it.

It's incredible, it's a good restaurant, everything was delicious, especially the starter sauce and bread, followed by tomatoes and potatoes, it was great, definitely recommended.

This is my third visit. Both inside and outside siting areas are very nice. Service friendly, Food is delicious but portions are small (especially Pulpo a Féria is really small considering the price). We ordered a bottle of house wine and showed it from the menu to be sure (bottle 26€) but they brought 1/2 liter then we ordered one more and we paid €40! There was a mistake but I recognized this later. After reading the comments regarding wine receipts I’m a little nervous. I mean: why?

A good place in Amsterdam for Spanish food. The waitress was very friendly, and it's nice to hear Spanish spoken outside of Spain! The food is good and 100% Spanish. The ham croquettes and garlic shrimp were our favorites. We went for dinner, and it's necessary to reserve before going, as it tends to get busy.

We had delicious tapas, but it's a shame they only have Heineken on tap and not Spanish draft beer. Hence the one-star reduction.

Sara was a sweetheart, super attentive. We went with a 3-year-old, and she customized the menu to his liking. I recommend the meatballs and the delicious fish soup.

Authentic Spain in the heart of Amsterdam! They serve classic tapas like "Pulpo a la Galega" or "Anchoas al Vinagre." Everything we tried was truly delicious. Loud and fun! The service was friendly! 🫶🏻

It's a real shame the food was so disappointing. It was also quite pricey for the tapas portions we received. The staff was friendly, though, and we were able to get a table without a reservation (it was a weekday).

Good but not great. Some dishes were great pulpo, pimento de padron) while others just missed the mark (patatas bravas, tortilla). It is expensive for what it is but at least the portions are ok but places like Tia Rosa are a little friendlier on the wallet. The restaurant and decor of Pata Negra are great and they do a great job of giving Spanish vibes. A place I would go back to

3 juli 2023: As a costumer here I could feel the tension of the staff whenever the manager walked by. This man was very rude to his staff and also to us. He kept a close watch on everything which is good but he was sighing regularly, mumbling under his breath and rolling his eyes. It kinda killed the vibe. Besides this the food was great and the waitress working at our table was very nice. 9 aug 2025: We had dinner here again and the food was very good. The staff was very friendly. The manager was here again but he was way more relaxt than the last time we were here. Excellent food! We didn’t have reservations but we could walk and didn’t have to wait because we were early. Later on it gets pretty busy so it might be handy to check for reservations if you’re arriving after 19:00

The only place we've ever wanted to return to in the entire city of Amsterdam. We're a group of six, and everyone was delighted with both the service and the food. It was quite delicious, and it's funny to think that the Spanish restaurant was the only place we really liked. The first time we went, we had to wait a bit, about 20 minutes, but the wait was worth it as it far exceeded our low expectations. The second time we went, we didn't have to wait at all. Still, I'd recommend making a reservation in advance so you don't end up waiting too long or running out of luck.

I visited this place with Amsterdam locals, good food, fast service, friendly servers. but the place is a bit too loud for me. Iberico ham was delicious👍👍

Fun atmosphere with great Spanish bar food. Would definitely try the garlic shrimp, jamón ibérico, and the calamari. Pair those with an Alhambra and you’re golden 👍🏻

We love this place, it’s one of our favourite restaurants in Amsterdam. Our recommendation are the dishes: Sepia fish and Datiles con Bacon. Sarah always makes our dinner special, she has a lovely smile and make you feel like at home.

Good place to have a beer and a tapa

As a (now) Spanish food curator, Pata Negra had been on my list for a while, and I happened to be walking past it, so I decided to give it a try. I walked in and sat down, and my order was taken, and later, my drink was brought to me. Ten seconds later, someone, presumably the owner, asked if I had a reservation, which I didn't, and questioned why I "just sat here." So I was asked to sit at the bar, which I found odd and reasoned that I was being served and my order was simply being taken, so I had already started dining at this table, while ten seconds later I had to go to the bar with my own drinks, plates, and dishes. The owner followed me, and I took the second-to-back seat at the bar. He suggested I take the very last one because "it's the best seat at the bar." He then admitted he'd prefer me to sit there so the bar could be better filled with other customers. Then he explained how you "normally" wait outside a restaurant until you're seated. Well, first, there was no one to do that for me, and second, it's a tapas bar, not a Michelin-starred restaurant, and as a half-Spaniard, I knew from experience that that's not always the way to go and you can usually just sit anywhere. When the owner told me I was Argentinian, that didn't help either. The food was okay, but nothing special. The owner later apologized, which is all it takes to get a one-star review. I felt unappreciated as a customer.

Great Tapas, fast service and good mood

The food isn't bad, quite similar to Spanish tapas, although the price is steep for a tapas bar, as they aren't main courses. We were served by Sara, a Spanish woman who works there, and her service was excellent, the best part of the meal.

I rarely write reviews. Atmosphere was good, service was friendly, but food was simply bad, it left that old used up oil taste afterwards for hours and sangria gave both of us such an headache afterwards. The next day we had a bad stomach as well.

A 10 for this place. After spending a week in Amsterdam, it would be the only restaurant we would recommend and would definitely return. We stopped for some tapas and ate: bravas, the potatoes would have been better if they were natural! Garlic wings, very good. Garlic shrimp, on par with those in Spain. They were very good! Congratulations! While we were eating, a truck with Spanish products appeared to be unloaded. They work with good products. They have a Galicia star 👍🏻👍🏻 We'll be back soon! Pretty good value for money.

Fantastic place for a good meal. I went with a large group and it was a little late, but the staff and kitchen staff served us quickly and efficiently. A special mention to Sara, who was wonderful to us. I would definitely return.

Lamb, green pepper and shrimps are wonderful, it is definitely a beautiful place, we were extremely pleased.

Not professional. Waiters chatting between themselves while customers waiting to order, they meeting some friends at the bar’s door who were not customers and keeping ignoring the clients… Waited for 20 minutes to order and decided to leave after seeing some waiters were only going to those tables where young ladies were seated. Never again and will never recommend it.

Annoying service/ambience. First scene seen: they moved a couple who were eating to make us sit at the table for 6 and they put them squashed into the table for 6 that had 4 people. Embarrassing. You sit down and they constantly push you to get up as soon as possible. We had booked from Italy for a birthday party for 6 of us. A little empathy. They asked us about 5 times to order while we were figuring out what to have (within 5-10 minutes and we had ordered drinks anyway). You order and they bring you the food immediately, which makes you think it is already ready and reheated. In fact it was super hot and steaming. Not very tasty. I wouldn't go back and I don't recommend it at all

Ridiculous prices. Why pay Russian caviar prices for instant octopus. Buy a cheap ticket to Bilbao and enjoy real Spanish food at a fraction of this cost.

Despite warnings about shady practices, we tried it once. We repeatedly said we wanted the house wine, but when we paid, we were charged 1x the house wine and 4x the more expensive wine. Even 17 euros more expensive per bottle. STRONGLY not recommended!

The food was good, but there was hardly any communication. They put a basket of bread on our table without asking, expecting it to be free/from the house. Ending up, paying for something we didn’t ask for….. it’s not really fair. What a scam

It's a shame that if you order the house wine of €26 several times, you find out afterwards on the bill that the expensive bottle of wine of €40 was brought the whole evening. During dinner we often explicitly asked if it was really the house wine, why did the staff answer with 'yes'. Then it really hits you with the bill if it was an incredibly expensive bottle 5 times. The food was tasty, but it's a shame that after consultation only a measly 24 euros were taken off the bill for something you didn't order.

Great authentic Tapas place in a cute area of Amsterdam. Plenty of outdoor service and relatively quick bringing our food out. The only little problem is that it’s more on the pricey side, other than that good quality.

Everything about this place is an ultimate vibe. You get seated, order a pitcher of Sangria and whichever bites you prefer, then enjoy an amazing dining experience with arguably an even better ambiance. Everybody is smiling, lots of people dance while eating and the staff are all enjoying the occasion. My favorite restaurant in the city!

Tasty Spanish tapas in a nice setting. I had lunch on Saturday, and the place was pretty empty. But I've tried dining here on a weekend, and it was impossible to get a seat. So, plan accordingly.

Calling it Spanish is talking for the sake of talking, it has nothing Spanish about it. A canned octopus called octopus afeira. Pollo al ajillo, which are chicken wings with parsley, they forget the garlic. I understand that a Spanish restaurant in Amsterdam is not the same but it is another thing to tease the customer whether they are from Holland, Spain or anywhere in the world.

Very mediocre food, the fried calamari were tasteless and not fresh (frozen). The service was slow and unfriendly. This place lures people in with the decorated interior only to serve expensive inauthentic junk.

Hi there! Just to clarify—I’m Spanish and have been living in the Netherlands for 5 years now. I’ve eaten in plenty of Spanish bars here, and I can confidently say that this one is definitely not among them. Bringing products from Spain doesn’t automatically make the food authentic especially when the quality is lacking. High prices and inflation aren’t an excuse for food that simply doesn’t taste good. Spanish "essence" isn’t something you can import in a box, it’s in the way the food is made, seasoned, served, and enjoyed. Sadly, none of that was present. No hard feelings, just an honest opinion from someone who knows what real Spanish food tastes like. The place has a great atmosphere traditional and pleasant. Unfortunately, the food was bad and quite expensive. Absolutely NO Spanish essence at all.
