Yesterday I had a problem and needed to charge my phone. The staff offered to help me without hesitation and without asking for anything in return. They stayed until 2 a.m. waiting for my phone to charge. It had been a long time since I'd seen such kindness and understanding, especially in these times and in a city as hectic as Amsterdam. I can't thank all the staff at the restaurant enough. Thank you so much for your help.

I recommend it! Top place with great food, not so touristy and has a realistic average rating. Definitely a big recommendation from us!

We shared some tapas (albondigas, calamari, bread w/aoli and mushrooms, and had a beer/sangria. The food was great for a late afternoon light snack. I would say stop in and enjoy a drink and light bites. I wanted to try more!

Great, delicious food and cozy atmosphere

Let's start with the fact that I'm from Malaga, "Andalusian through and through." And let's continue by knowing that we're in Amsterdam, where they charge you €3.50 for a small bottle of water anywhere. So let's not expect miracles. Don't expect anchovies from Malaga, or octopus from Galicia. Come on! Are the portions small? Well, yes... Is it not up to par with a good bar in Spain? Well, also yes... But it's the place where we've enjoyed eating the most, and although expensive and the portions are small, it's not bad. I'm giving it 4 stars to pad the stats. My rating in Spain would have been a 2/10. Here in Amsterdam, I'll give it a 7. You also have to know what to order... Let's be SPANISH! The service was very good. I would go back...

Last Saturday we had a fantastic experience at Bar Pata Negra in Amsterdam. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel right at home thanks to the excellent service from Moha, María, and Santiago, who were attentive, friendly, and always smiling. It's a pleasure to encounter such a professional and welcoming team. For our meal, we ordered Russian salad, patatas bravas, and bread with aioli. Everything was delicious, well-prepared, and full of flavor, bringing a taste of Spain closer to those of us who have been away from home for a while 🥹. We also enjoyed our meal with some shandies, beers, and vodkas (quite a few!), making the most of Amsterdam Pride Day. The service was spectacular, the atmosphere very welcoming, and the attentiveness of all the staff made what was supposed to be a taste of Spanish cuisine for two expats even better. Without a doubt, a highly recommended place for anyone who wants to enjoy good Spanish food and feel well taken care of. Thank you so much, Moha, María, Santiago, and the rest of the team, for making our visit so special! We'll definitely be back. ❤️

What a laugh we got off this place when we got the check. The prices are absolutely insane for what they offer, Amsterdam is expensive, but come on. The tabla iberica i think was called was straight off a sealed packet from the supermarket, the bread was about to go stale, croquetas super mid. and so on. Overall really low quality food for absurdly high prices. The interior was very nice. and the staff was good enough for Amsterdam standards. It shocked me that a place supposedly showcasing their culture on a different country had so little pride on it. Or probably it's just a tourist trap and i fell for it. Edit to the restaurant: I read other comments and your replies, you seem to be very sensitive when someone tells you the truth. No, the tabla wasn't the only thing I tried as I stated it on my comment. But If you're importing and cutting them yourselves you probably need a better source since it's supermarket quality. Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general isn't a place known for it's good food, so I wouldn't really use the opinion of the locals as a way to excuse your lack of quality. If you have been doing this for 30 years maybe you need to take a break, go back to the source, try some good tapas somewhere else and come back with a renewed spirit, because the lack of interest and love on your food is visible.

Great family dinner tonight. The staff were attentive especially our young waiter who was very nice and happy to have a chat.

A really nice Spanish tapas place with a large variety and delicious food. The place really gives a home feel to it once you enter. Once we were seated we were started off with some baguette and a spread which was lovely. As we were a big party we ordered many things so I got to try quite a lot of what they offer. Everything we got was delicious, the only slight miss was the Calamari (Calamares) and that's only because they were unsalted. The Baravas Potatoes (Patatas Bravas) were not anything special but it was nice to try and it was not spicy. The fan favourite was the Fried Chorizo (Chorizos fritos) and Fried Anchovies (Boquerones fritos), but truly, everything that we tried we loved. The desserts are also amazing. The flan lovers will truly fall in love with the Flan Casero. As a chocolate lover myself I truly enjoyed the Tarta de Chocolate. The Tarta di Santiago was delicious and something new for me, while the Crema Catalana was well made and really similar to a creme brulee. Pata Negra is highly recommended if you are in the mood for authentic Spanish tapas. The atmosphere is cozy and lively, and the warm interior with Spanish tiles makes it feel like you are in Spain for a moment. The terrace is also a lovely place to sit. The sangria was delicious and there is a wide selection of tapas. The prawns and the albondigas were particularly tasty. The service was friendly, fast, and provided good recommendations. I will definitely be back!

So much fun, such great tapas! Our first night in Amsterdam we had not planned dinner, and most restaurants were fully booked. We were walking by and were so lucky to get a table here, it was also very busy. We ordered a ton of tapas, faves were the queso frito (baked cheese), the garlic prawns, empanadas, patatas bravas and calamari, but all was good. The rib eye steak was like butter and came with a huge serve of thinly sliced fried potatoes. Red sangria was great, and they gave us limoncello shots at the end of our meal. We were full and happy.

It was ok. Overrated prices. Pin machine did not work we found out after dinner. And they charged us more then what we ordered.

Fancy a nice tapas meal? You can certainly do that here. Cozy atmosphere and top-notch service.

Very nice and authentic Spanish restaurant. I tried their fish soup and gambas, both were great. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Amsterdam.

I really liked the place, and especially the food. We mostly had tapas, enjoying all the typical Spanish dishes we love. My partner was served a very juicy, perfectly cooked picanha steak. It was an excellent experience, so we went back a few times during our stay in Amsterdam.

Food was amazing. They had real iberico jamon pata negra as the restaurant name is. All the dishes were pretty on point. The only one that was average was the patatas bravas (which was really mid). Besides that, we had an amazing meal. Highly recommend for spanish food in amsterdam. I went to another spanish restaurant in amsterdam and they definitely did not have authentic iberico jamon pata negra despite the label.

A household name in Amsterdam since time immemorial. You feel transported to Southern Spain; this restaurant could just as easily be in Seville or Malaga. Delicious food, atmospheric, and excellent service from Sara.

Fantastic Spanish tapas in a colorful and vibrant restaurant. Went twice, also with a larger group and the food was amazing on both occasions.

Authentic spanish tapas place. Some dishes were too oily for our taste and the shrimps weren’t cleaned properly.

We were on vacation and went in for a snack during the evening; we weren't very hungry, but from what we saw from the outside it looked interesting. We arrived and asked the head waiter if they had a table, and after carefully searching and consulting his colleagues, they showed us what he called "the best spot in the room," a seat at the counter in the most secluded corner, where "you could see the whole room." We thanked him, looked at the menu (tapas), and since we weren't starving, we only ordered some olives to start. And that's when, as if we had committed some crime, they bombarded us with the question, "Is that all??" in their most unpleasant tone. Next, the head waiter arrived, looking around the entire room (which, incidentally, was empty), and told us, "Only olives?! You'll have to leave because the room will be full soon and we'll need that space."... We didn't need anything more; we got up and left as quickly as we could because the stares were disturbing. Besides being expensive, they were unpleasant. Olives taken directly from the can, highly inflated (+€5), perhaps because of the pretty presentation (??). Loud music, but it was possible to talk. Nicely decorated place. I don't recommend it.

It's a shame for a Spanish tourist in Amsterdam to discover this place so late. Wow, it's like eating back home, but in Amsterdam! The tapas are enormous and incredibly varied, the staff is fantastic, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. I was so hungry I didn't even take any pictures. Two tapas are enough to fill you up; they're huge.

From the moment we were greeted at the entrance and shown to our table, and with Sara's excellent service, everything was wonderful. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very pleasant. What grumpy service. The woman who served us was unfriendly and almost rude. After struggling to get a table, even though there were only four other people there, we were asked to move a chair so we could sit at the end, perhaps in case 50 guests arrived at the same time and needed the adjacent table. The food was mediocre.

Pata Negra was a great stop for our large group of 15, even though we ended up split between two tables. The tapas-style menu was fantastic and made it easy (and fun) to order a wide variety of dishes to share. While the service was good overall, I wish we had been checked on a bit more given the size of our group, and the corner table couldn’t quite accommodate everyone comfortably. That said, the food alone makes this a spot you should absolutely stop at.

Service was rude, half of our order was not brought to us, but it was on the final bill. They didn’t ask us if we wanted drinks and they took the drinks away from us even if we weren’t finished. We asked to take away the rest of the food, but they only gave us one of the dishes. Rude service and bad job. No investigation needs to be started, just if you want warm service, don't come here

Underwhelming food with average service in a great location. Warm decor and comfortable chairs.

The food is pricey, but everything is delicious and of good quality. The service is consistently poor. Their lack of Dutch and limited English means orders don't get through correctly, and I always have to double-check. The bill was €184. I gave the waitress €200 in cash, and she asked if it was okay as is. I've never seen a waitress suggest a tip. They rush to make room for the next customers. It's very cramped and loud inside.

Very strange experience here..we had a great meal but at the end we noticed they added themselves an extra 30 euro tip without notifying us. When confronting the manager, he said that it’s written on the menu. That’s a lie, he couldn’t show where it was written and then changed the story by saying that staff should have warned us. It was dishonest and a very strange way to deal with the situation. We don’t mind giving a 30€ tip, but deceiving us and acting dishonestly afterwards isn’t the way. Shame as everything else was great

Don’t know what some of the other reviews are complaining about because this place is fantastic. Food is delicious, fresh and reasonably portioned & priced, inside is cool and a bit grungy, service was fast and all around a great experience. We will defs be back, great to find a good local place! Don’t know what it’s like getting a table busy times as we went around 2pm on a Saturday but they had plenty of space then :)

They charge a 10% service fee without warning customers, and hide it on the bill. FYI, it is NOT legal to charge fees without properly notifying customers ahead of time. Also, we had already given a 15€ tip, which they accepted without saying that they had already charged a 30€ service fee. It's only later that we noticed on the bill that there was this extra fee. It's a shame because otherwise the food and the vibe were nice...

Pata Negra is a good option if you're looking for Spanish flavors in Amsterdam. Although, nothing special during our lunch last September. Pros: > Steak was really good > Extensive Spanish menu options > Nicely decorated & felt like a proper Spanish tapas bar > Has their own deli counter, where you can see as they prepare your food Cons: > The food was average. Some lacked flavor > The service was very slow when we visited for a Tuesday lunch. There was only 1 staff. We were the only customers by then. > Seating can be improved with cushioned seats

Honestly... I was a little disappointed with the Pata Negra in Amsterdam 😕 I was really looking forward to tapas, but somehow it was all so... meh. The portions were tiny, and the bread was as hard as a rock. It was annoying from the very first bite. The service was nice, but incredibly slow – we sat there for what felt like forever before anything arrived. And then it wasn't even really warm 😩 The only thing that was halfway decent were the patatas bravas, but even those were more lukewarm than tasty. The atmosphere in the place was quite cool, with music and lights, but that doesn't redeem bad food. I'm giving it 3 out of 10 stars, simply because at least it looked pretty – unfortunately, nothing more.

We had a reservation for 6:30 PM for eight people. By 7:30 PM, they were practically turning us away because they had another reservation. We hadn't even ordered dessert or the last round of drinks. Meanwhile, other people were seated at tables who had arrived much earlier than us, and they weren't even mentioned. Don't order the "pollo al ajillo"; it tasted like KFC chicken. I even asked if they had made a mistake, but they said, "No, that's pollo al ajillo." Years ago, I ate there often, and I can assure you that what they served me this time was not pollo al ajillo.

Absolute gem in Amsterdam. Very authentic tapas atmosphere, lovely food, good service. Clearly very popular (Tuesday night and several tables were booked by large groups). Absolutely made our evening. Downside, nothing material- it was super noisy even when not full, go for the atmosphere not for a quiet chat. Would definitely return. So good.

Food was pretty shitty, as was the wine and service. The only thing that was alright was the tiny 27 euro plate of iberico ham that required no skill except for cutting it.

It's incredible, it's a good restaurant, everything was delicious, especially the starter sauce and bread, followed by tomatoes and potatoes, it was great, definitely recommended.
