Piccolo Mondo in Nieuwmarkt/Lastage

Our last dinner in Amsterdam we had the pleasure to find Piccolo Mondo. The staff was very friendly, pleasant and the food....simply delicious. We had a splendid time there with my partner.

The atmosphere was charming and the service attentive. That’s where the positives ended. The food was a full-blown car wreck. Our pizzas arrived with crusts so bland and lifeless they could’ve doubled as cardboard coasters. The toppings, scattered here and there, tasted like someone had simply upended a salt shaker and called it a day. Texture? Nonexistent. Chewiness? About as much as a damp napkin. In short, it felt less like eating pizza from an actual Italian restaurant and more like from a doner kebap place in the middle of nowhere at 3am in the morning. The chef should be ashamed of this frozen pizza level abomination. And to add insult, the Aperol was so thin it could’ve been sold as mineral water. Do yourself a favor: admire the place from the outside, but don’t fall for this atrocious tourist trap masquerading as a pizzeria.

We had a lovely evening here, even though we weren't the easiest guests. Because we injured our ankles, we were immediately given ice cream. The food was amazing; the Pizza Inferno is an inferno in your mouth😀. Thanks for everything, and greetings from Germany

The meal was good, but the quantities... I'll let you see from the photo. I ordered one of the more expensive dishes, and I ended up with two and a half potatoes on my plate... Too expensive for what it is.

Food and service were out of this world. After a very difficult day, Franco made it better with his charisma and care his customer. I am very grateful I chose this place for dinner because I got a wholesome meal that was made possible with fresh ingredients and the joyful attitude of the staff made me feel invited.

En lagom stor restaurang med god vällagad mat. Vi åt här tre dagar i rad och åt olika rätter varje gång. Det blev 6 olika rätter och alla var riktigt goda och vällagade. Kan även rekommendera Tiramisun och citronglassen. Personalen var supertrevlig och tillmötesgående. Blev glada när min man, som bott i Italien, tackade på italienska och började höra sig efter om det. På hemresedagen åt vi inte där, men gick förbi utanför. En av tjejerna såg oss och vinkade glatt genom fönstret.

A wonderful restaurant by the standards of our Italian restaurants. Everything has flavor and the sauce is delicious, especially the chicken steak with sauce. It was wonderful.

Although the food was delicious and the service was friendly, the wait was excessive. It was obvious they were packed, and they sincerely apologized on several occasions.

We wanted an authentic Italian restaurant and were not disappointed. Our host and the staff were lovely, the food delicious, with generous portions, and the ambience was casual and unhurried so you really could enjoy your food like a Italian. Some of the loveliest food we have had outside of Italy.

We love this restaurant! The chef and the owner were amazing and the location is as well! We had a nice bottle of Barillo and some wonderful sea bass all the seafood was amazing. We hope you have the same experience.

May 20 and 21st. We were a party of 7 and the food, the service and everything else was amazing. We enjoyed it so much that our party of 5 came back. We tasted some dishes we did not order and had to come and have the full meal. The appetizers are a delight. The owner is wonderful. He is so accommodating. The next time we are in Old Amsterdam we will absolutely eat there. This is a highlight of the area. Please search them out. What a great date night with the food and the canals. Depending on alcohol it was very reasonable.

A decent Italian restaurant, without much of a history. The food was pasta, risotto, and decent pizza. The dishes didn't take long. Well located near Chinatown and the red-light district. It was early, 1:30 PM, but surprisingly, we were alone. We were served by a friendly, attentive girl. Nothing special, but nothing bad either; there's a lot of average Italian food in Amsterdam.

Very cozy restaurant on the busy side of Amsterdam, the food is amazing, we ordered dinner raviolli di ricotta i spinacci and filetto al funghi with two glasses of cold rosé wine, perfect. Service that night was an italian and argentinian guy, both lovely and fun to talk to. It was a very hot night of June and the air conditioner was not turned on, the only drawback from the whole experience.

Way too expensive for the food... very cheap pepperoni on pizza for €19.50

Last minute stop for dinner on our one day trip to Amsterdam. Beautiful little Italian restaurant. Fresh food, hot, great portions and flavour. Lovely house red wine. The service was fantastic, great group of staff, very attentive.

Best food we had in Amsterdam! Went back twice. We had a wonderful salad then chicken with mushrooms in a white wine cream sauce that was amazing. The Tiramisu is made in house. Sat outside overlooking the canal. Highly recommend. And our waiter Daniel was very attentive!

Great service , delicious food, relaxing atmosphere away from the tourist crowds for a while. Salmon tagliatelle was delicious, filling & well seasoned - too much past for me but a good serving for a bigger appetite. Other half had seafood pasta dish, again delicious & filling.

Very good service. The poor food my wife ordered linguini with pesto and the flavor or the confection was not acceptable. What a shame that the pesto was old and did not have the right flavor for a "Ristorante Italiano" as advertised. I ordered a pasta with seafood that was acceptable. The service was excellent.

Great location. Excellent service. Wonderful bread. Good wine list. Nice selection of primarily southern Italian favorites. Dropped in when wandering and were accommodated generously. Customers appeared largely American. A very solid choice.

It was a very calm shop, and the staff was very friendly. I ordered mushroom soup, salad caprese, and pizza caprese, and the mushroom soup was especially delicious. The aroma and creaminess are reminiscent of French sauce, Vin Blanc, and it is appealing.

If you are looking for a very good Italian restaurant, which is close to the central station, then you have come to the right address! The welcome is very friendly and the food is really very good: the homemade pasta with fresh toppings is excellent. The same goes for pizza, tiramisu and coffee. The restaurant is very clean and neat. We can't wait to go back!

Asked them to add chicken to the pesto pasta and the server said it was not possible. I am surprised they don't do upsells for more profit per dish. Great pesto pasta but to have no protein in my meal makes it rare for me to eat there again. I did love the pesto though.

Gathering and drinking beer at this restaurant was a very pleasant experience during my holiday in the Netherlands.....you have to come and enjoy your holiday time.....

Hands down, the best pizza of my life; no joke! The crust, the cheese, the sauce… everything was perfect. And the people! Super kind and friendly and made me feel right at home. Great vibes, amazing food. I’ll be dreaming about that pizza in Canada! Plus, I don’t remember the wine’s name, but they suggested it. And wow! It was the best white wine I could’ve had with that pizza. Absolutely spot-on pairing! I highly recommend this place!

The pasta was amazing with the Genovese pesto sauce and the Parmesan Cheese ! The waiters were nice and accommodating attending our every demands. The place in itself is cozy and the decoration is light but beautiful. I strongly recommend this Italian restaurant!

The staff quickly and smoothly arranged three small tables on the sidewalk to accommodate 6 of us when we came up with two extra people. The service was outstanding and the food delicious. An excellent Al fresco dining experience on a lovely spring evening in Amsterdam.

Piccolo Mondo is one of those places that you wished was closer to home, so you can eat there much more often. But at least we now have a go-to place in Amsterdam, NL. The people here are so friendly and welcoming, and the food is top-notch. I have had the Risotto in a mushroom and pine nut sauce. My wife has had the Spaghetti Bolognese and their lasagna on another visit. She said these dishes were the absolute best she has tried in Europe. The establishment really gets crowded, later in the evening, and we love the staff and ambiance. This will be our first stop when we return to Amsterdam!

Had a terrible spaghetti carbonara, was a very very creamy sauce. Not at all authentic. Also became ill after eating lunch here (23rd March 2025), reading the reviews, seems other people have also been sick after eating here. Serving staff (lady on her own) were nice, shame about the terrible chef.

I had a really nice experience at the restaurant! The service was super quick, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Even though it was quite crowded, they found us a cozy spot by the door. The pasta was delicious and really well made, which was the highlight for us! As for the decor, a little more Italian charm would make it feel even cozier. But when it comes to the food, we were really happy with the quality. Overall, it was a delightful outing!

My lady and I enjoyed our experience at Piccolo Mondo! The appetizers were amazing and we enjoyed sitting outside for two days for about 3 hours each day. It's the perfect place to soak up Amsterdam and enjoy the sights of people enjoying life here. We enjoying the wine, the drinks the atmosphere but most of all we enjoyed Marco Lorene who provided excellent customer service and hospitality.

We visited Picccolo Mondo during our first night stay in Amsterdam on 2/19. Franco was a lovely host! He was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. The food was fantastic, second best Italian food I’ve ever had (first was in Rome, Italy)! We made a reservation, but it wasn’t busy at the time around 8:30pm. The atmosphere and vibe was cozy, warm, and quiet. All the food we tried was authentic, it took me back to Italy and I loved the different menu options for those who have food allergies. My cousin is gluten free, and she had several food options to choose from. She was very well pleased with the selections for her dietary restriction. We all shared the gluten free pizza and it was delicious, I sure didn’t miss the gluten. I had the pasta carbonara and I’m still thinking about it to this day, it was fantastic!! If you’re ever in Amsterdam, please do yourself a favor and stop in at Piccolo Mundo for dinner and to see Franco and his staff you will not be disappointed. Grazie mille!

The waitress was kind and the spaghetti was delicious. Sometimes the atmosphere where you eat and the behave of the people are as important as the thing you eat. This was the place which was aware of that!

Pedimos Focaccia y esperábamos pan con aceite de oliva pero lo que conseguimos fue una base de pizza bastante seca. Sin embargo, el plato principal compensó esto ya que estaba delicioso. Puedo recomendar el risotto de setas - gran sabor y textura. Pizza también muy buena.

A group of 8 of us had such an amzing meal here, it really did leave us with a great night of memories. The restaurant was warm and cosy with a great selection of drinks. We all had various wines and beers to begin with and there was a good selection to choose from. The staff were all brilliant and very friendly and were all on ball and knew when to ask if you needed anything. The food was amazing, no complaints from any of the 8 of us here. We all ordered different meals and we all loved them as well as starters. I had the prawn stearter and steak main which was cooked exactly how aI asked. I would defiently recommend anyone to come here for what should be a quality fine dining meal. I will definitely return here one day in the future. 5* to Piccolo Mondo from 8 happy guests. Considering the good reviews, I honestly do not understand why this institution has 4.5 stars. My husband and I ordered pasta with seafood and pasta carbonara. There was sand in the pasta with seafood (I believe that for the price of 24.5), it should not be there. The pasta itself tasted like ordinary store-bought. The prices for such portions and their preparation are overpriced. Maybe other dishes taste better. But the atmosphere in the institution itself was pleasant. The music was good and the service was also good.

Comida deliciosa y un servicio increíble! Tenía los raviolis con espinacas y ricota y mi amigo tenía los espaguetis con mejillones, calamares, almejas y camarones. Ambos platos eran increíbles y recomiendo encarecidamente comer aquí. Sin mencionar un ambiente agradable, iluminado por velas. ☺️
