Punjab Express in Staatsliedenbuurt

I have been coming here for over 10 years and unfortunately, I notice that friendliness is becoming increasingly hard to find. I called today to place an order; there were four of us and everyone wanted naan, but the gentleman refused to make it. Making naan is a lot of work, and he was only willing to make a maximum of two. According to the website, you can order naan with every dish, but if you mention this over the phone, he won't do it. Furthermore, the gentleman didn't hear me well and snapped at me with the question: "Why did you say that then?" Well, I didn't say that at all. The end of the phone call was that I decided not to take my order of nearly 80 euros after all. Treating customers like this is simply unacceptable!!!!

I really don't understand the reviews! Another fantastic meal. Chicken saag. It's so good, it's to die for. It had a delicious moonshine... I definitely recommend it, and I'll be back! Glad it's in my neighborhood.

Food is good, the service and atmosphere could be better

I don't think I've ever written a review before. But this guy was so rude, I didn't even feel like eating anymore. He took my order wrong, and the mistake was my own fault. Zero love for this food.

The food here is really good and the service is so fast! I will say it's a bit of "Fast food" and a bit oily but it's still amazing. It's not the fanciest or the nicest but the food is still worth it.

Delicious food from kind people!!

It was a bit less last year. But at least the roti tastes like it should again. Excellent. I think there's a new one in the kitchen. I've already ordered 3 times this year. Delivery is also fast.

After all the bad reviews I felt called to show that these are not true. I live very close to this place and we get our food here a few times a month. The owner is a hard working man with his wife and if you take the time to get to know him, he is the nicest person you have ever met. I feel bad that all these people seem to write bad reviews on first impressions. The food is amazing (get the roti moksi meti special!) just don’t be lazy and order from uber eats and just stop by:) The prices are also reallyyy good for Amsterdam!

The owner is extremely grumpy and rude. Yelled at us. The quality of food and groceries is terrible.

Wij hebben het eten laten bezorgen thuis. Zoals elke keer was het weer verrukkelijk!! Veel variatie in het menu en het eten komt net alleen heerlijk aan maar ook warm. De bezorger is zo schattig en prijs en kwaliteit verhouding is ook prima!

Update I have seen the owner taking the plain rice with his hands to put it in the plastic food container. This is not cool! He touches everything with his hands and then uses them as a spoon? Please... Moreover this shop uses too much plastic, this is not sustainable. Almost everyone now uses cardboard or paper take away containers. I suggest to change this and get up to speed. No more plastic and hands please

After waiting an hour I called again. 'Delivery person is just driving away' (on a normal bicycle 7 minutes) Called again after half an hour. 'Delivery man is almost here'. That was right. Hot chicken wings are not spicy due to Indian spices but due to Tabasco. The bowl of okra was barely half full. Instead of Basmati rice, regular white rice. Okra with fried onions, tomatoes, ginger and garlic; didn't see any ginger, tomato or garlic, but a lot of oil. Chana masala: Indian chickpeas prepared in curry sauce. The 'curry sauce' is hard to find, the peas are bathed in a pan of oil with the sharpness of Tabasco. Never again!!!

Food is good but there wasn't a day that I didn't see the owner grumpy... he is always so rude... and so mad.

I ended up here during my evening walk and wanted to test this out. While waiting I read all the negative reviews here. I was helped quite friendly and I got a €0.50 discount because I got one less chicken wing. That's why I went home with good courage to put it to the test. However, I came home from a rude awakening. The chicken wings, seekh kebab and chicken tikka were all disappointing. The meat was dry and the dishes looked gloomy. We didn't eat it. Shame!

Don’t judge a place by it looks. Btw there is nothing wrong with the place (if you ask me). I just had the most delicious lamb biryani and okra dish. Will definitely come back again. Friendly guy behind the counter. Highly recommended.

Er is een nieuwe eigenaar in winkel waarbij het eerder een toko is geworden, een kleine supermarket waar je tevens je eigen kruiden kunt halen. En het eten smaakt geweldig lekker voor een goede prijs.

The food is very tasty and fresh. Staff is very good also.

Besteld via eigen website, betaald via ideal. We ontvingen bevestiging van bestelling maar ontvingen geen eten. 4x gebeld, geen gehoor. Mijn man is langs gelopen en bleek dicht te zijn. Ga nu proberen geld terug te krijgen. Zeer jammer deze ervaring.

Het eten komt altijd heel warm aan, verzorgd en overheerlijk!

Pretty average Indian restaurant. Prices are okay too, but service is pretty bad if you are ordering at the restaurant.

Fast delivery around Amsterdam West. Palak Paneer and combo menus are delicious. Nice choice for those craving quick Indian dishes.

Gisteren om 18:45 2 rotirollen hete kip en 1 rotirol zoete kip gehaald. Lekker eten, maar erg jammer en smerig dat ik een lange haar vond in de roti, helaas nooit meer.

Jeetje, wat was dat lekker ! Ik had de Lamb Saag besteld met rijst en naanbrood. Ik kon niet stoppen met eten. Dat smaakt naar vaker en meer !

Prima eten, goede porties, snel klaar en makkelijk af te halen/handelen qua tijd en betalen. Prima tent!

Dit is onze favo go to afhaal als we even geen zin hebben om te koken. Leuke buurttoko met flinke porties voor wat je betaalt, flinke porties en erg smaakvol eten. Absolute aanrader!

Onwijs lekker, heb inmiddels alle vegetarische gerechten wel een keer gehad, stuk voor stuk erg lekker!

I travel a lot in my life. And also 5 times per year to A'dam. But this location is absolutely overprized. 2 dishes, heated in the microwave for 21€ (without drinks)! Wow, I get cheaper food in the heart of A'dam. 2 stars only for the taste. But definitely not again.

Halve porties tegenwoordig (???) niet meer de moeite waard.

Eten was over okay: niet slecht, maar zeker niet bijzonder. Wat de ervaring echter erg negatief maakte was de onbeschofte en chagrijnige man achter de balie (bij afhalen). Volgens hem hadden we niet besteld, toen zou het volgens hem pas om 18:30 moeten worden afgehaald. App gaf aan dat het al klaar was. Medewerker deed vrij onaardig. Vervolgens bleek hij een fout te hebben gemaakt maar bood excuses niet even aan. De service van dit restaurant maakt dat ik hier nooit meer terug zal gaan.

Tweede keer laten bezorgen. Was weer erg smakelijk eten en ook nog snel bezorgd.

Als je ergens Indiaas wilt bestellen, doe het dan bij Punjab Express. De vegetarische köfte zijn buitenaards lekker. Net als de samosa’s, dahl en kikkererwten massala. Snel bezorgd, bloedheet nog in de bakjes en met lekkere kleine extra’s. Aanrader!!!!!

Spice level was good (asked for spicy and actually delivered. Although the flavour was really quite nive I could use barely find a trace of eggplant in the eggplant bhartha. Lots of onion and peas but they really skimped on the star ingredient. The other dish was chicken tikka masala. Extremely oily and very saucy with little substance. My partner was not overly impressed with the meat quality. The garlic naan was good.

Best Indian restaurant in Amsterdam, at least for delivery. Their vindaloo is seriously spicy and their tandoori is well roasted, well marinated, but not too dry. Their side dishes are great too.
