This is one of the best Thai restaurants in the city. The staff if very kind and the food is very tasty.

We tried to have some thai beers and a plate to share because we weren’t that hungry and the waitress denied to serve us because we only order one item of food. We had to quickly drink the beers, they rushed us to leave. Ame and my friends will definitely not come back because the first thing is to be kind and polite. Very bad treatment. Lost clients for sure.

I spent a month in Amsterdam and had three delicious meals at Rakang. Although I generally like to have a variation in restaurants, it became one of my/our go-tos as it was near the apartment. The food is delicious and the service is excellent. I especially loved the sweet and sour chicken.

The chefs and staff are all Thai, so you can expect genuine Thai flavors and warm hospitality. A must-visit if you’re looking for authentic Thai cuisine!

The best Thai food we've had in years. The prices could be a bit lower, but it was still worth it. They don't offer regular drinks besides water and juice, but the Thai Milk Iced Tea is definitely worth it. We received a very friendly welcome and felt completely at ease.

On our last day in the Netherlands from Taiwan, we bought takeout: fried rice with chicken green curry and stir-fried chicken with chill and Thai basil. It was all delicious and went perfectly with rice. We even ordered an extra bowl of white rice, and we finished it all!

What a fantastic experience at this place on the Elandsgracht. We had a delicious meal here, and the atmosphere was very pleasant from the very first moment. The table was filled with beautiful dishes that looked fresh and prepared with great care, every single one of them. The dish with the delicate egg netting on top was a real eye-catcher on the table, in particular. Everything was very well presented, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. It was exactly what we were looking for for a relaxed evening out. We will certainly be back here soon for another visit.

Came here due to the rating and it did not disappoint. Very tasty soft tender chicken satay to start. Then a lovely duck curry and my friend had a beef dish he loved. Rice and noodles perfect. Nice staff. Food felt authentic and made fresh.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, I wasn't entirely sold on the food: the classic Pad Thai was too dry and sticky. I also found the price excessive for the quality and quantity of what we ate.

Vegans, pay attention, pay attention, pay attention! The menu lists "vegetarian option" next to many dishes, but this is misleading because they mean that the 'meat topping' can be changed to a 'vegetarian topping'. However, the base of ALL CURRIES is fish sauce. Everything... Even if you order a curry where you swap the meat for tofu, there is still fish present in your dish. After clearly insisting that the dish was *really* vegan, I was told that only 1 dish on the entire menu was vegan: the vegetables with a soy-like sauce on top. Because I was with a group, I ordered this. Otherwise, I would obviously have gone to eat somewhere else. BUT this dish was very tasty! Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about regarding the place, it is just a shame that they do not indicate clearly enough that the vegetarian options are not *that* vegetarian.

Although I hadn't been here for several months, I've visited this place since its opening, some 30 years ago. It's always welcoming, friendly and tasty. This time, something went wrong. The dish that was supposed to be extra spicy with sauce from the chef was not spicy whatsoever and rather sweet. I hope this isn't the start of a new trend

We noticed the restaurant during the day because the tables outside were always occupied. In the evening, we managed to get a table inside. The service was quick and very friendly. We ordered four different dishes, and each one was delicious. Those who enjoy a bit of spice will be very happy. It's a small but excellent restaurant. Attention to detail is evident. We felt very comfortable. Thank you!

Our first night in Amsterdam and we felt like Thai. Got seated by the bathroom in the back corner. Food was ok. Bill came and we were hit with 12 euros for water - not sparkling water / we had just asked for water. Reluctantly paid - and waitress tried to bully us into tipping too. Very average night out.

We chose this based on cozy looking photos, but unfortunately, this place has really bad service. The moment we finished our meal, they rushed us out a few times, even though there was a lot of empty seating. The space is very cramped; although there is a lot of empty seat like I mentioned, they overcrowd customers right next to each other, making it super uncomfortable. The food is just okay, not authentic and very overpriced. Very disappointed and would not come back.

We were walking around and looking for a place to eat dinner. Came across this cosy little place and we were lucky to get a table. It was very busy! The staff were friendly, helpful and great customer service. We didn’t have to wait too long for the food to come out despite every table in the restaurant being full. The food was super tasty! The menu is great as it states each allergen. I’m vegetarian and Thai food can be tricky due to oyster sauce and shrimp paste being included in many dishes. The staff was happy to double check that my dish didn’t contain any fish. We finished our dinner with the coconut brûlée which was a winner. The menu said “Too good to miss out on”. They were right! Will definitely recommend this restaurant for any friends travelling to Amsterdam.

Visited from the UK in 2023 and really enjoyed the meal we had at Rakang. Came back to Amsterdam May 2026 and ate here again on 2 consecutive nights! If we were staying in Amsterdam longer, we would have eaten here again! Delicious food, attentive and quick service. Highly recommend.

All of the food was incredibly fresh, tasty and well presented . The service was super efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was welcoming and cozy. The menu choices are good and the spice levels of each dish are stated, which definitely helped my children with their choices! This was one of the best meals we had and we would definitely return.

Rakang to go (the takeout spot beside the restaurant) is a hidden gem and my absolute favourite place to eat in Amsterdam. The green curry and Tom Kha Kai are as good (or maybe even better) as anything I’ve had in Thailand.

It was okay, but not that tasty. The chicken was too dry. We missed the freshness you normally find in Asian cuisine.

This had to be one of the best Thai restaurants I’ve been to. From walking in the atmosphere was small, but very warm and welcoming. The staff were pleasant and offered to help with the menu. I ordered the Pla Rad Prik Sod (whole fish) in a sweet and spicy sauce. It came out steaming hot, tasted fresh and overall great flavor. I was solo so unfortunately didn’t get to try any other dishes, but if I do return to Amsterdam, this place will definitely be on my list. Although I couldn’t find it on the menu, the Thai iced tea was also very good!

Delicious Thai food. Some of the best we've had in a long time. The service was exceptionally friendly and attentive. We each had a glass of wine and both an appetizer and a main course – everything was perfect. There's more than enough vegetarian food on offer, and they even ask if you'd like it made vegan. The restaurant is small, but they make excellent use of the space.

Despite the service was incredibly nice, all the items on the menu labelled as “vegetarian” were not vegetarian at all. They use a fish sauce in every meal and therefore it’s impossible to eat there as vegetarian and vegan, despite the menu reports the label

Food was one of the best Thai I had in Amsterdam, but unfortunately if you have allergies or food restrictions, it is quite hard to discuss easily with the staff. We had some communication issue but the food paid it back :) - for a proper meal you are gonna spend more than 30€

I went there twice in 5 days because they have great food, its a shame though because their waiter and manager are unprofessional. I have a medical condition with my ear and on our first visit i got super dizzy because the tables are on a floor with a steep slope, we changed our tables and got seated at a table by the kitchen which is was on a flat floor. So next time we booked and i asked to have the same table, we went there and found our table reserved for us and the waiter asked us to park the stroller and be seated at the same table. By the time we parked the stroller and took out the kids, a rude waiter gave the table to someone else, and when i told him i have a medical condition and i want the table wr were told is reserved for us or we’ll have to leave he told me “LEAVE”. I asked for the manager who told me am sorry but i can’t help you, so we just had to leave in the middle of the night with hungry children!!! I have never seen a worse customer experience!

One of the best meals ever!! From the maitais to the food, everything was perfect

My first experience to to eat Thai foods is one of my order “Papaya salad with shrimp” the chief for put lemon and even I asked to add lemon the flavor is not taste as real authentic taste. Somehow, the chef comes to apologize and ask to remake it again but I say no because I don’t have enough time to wait. However, for the service is very good and friendly.

It was a rainy day, and after a period of continuous cold wind, it was great to have a hot rice with their beef here. Everything was good and everything was delicious.

A truly fantastic Thai restaurant with a lovely terrace on the Elandsgracht canal, bathed in the evening sun, while watching all the people and tourists stroll by. My wife and I were lucky; even at 5:30 a.m., we managed to snag a free table outside without a reservation. The staff was very attentive; a dropped fork was quickly replaced with a clean one. We started with two delicious Tom Kha Kai/Jae soups (around 10 euros each), the signature one with lemongrass, and quite filling. Just be careful not to accidentally swallow the lemongrass sticks. The main course was jasmine rice, each with a different sauce. It seemed a bit small, but it was definitely enough and exceptionally delicious. I'll definitely be back for it the next time I stroll along the Elandsgracht canal.

Forget all the bad reviews you have seen here… Late Sunday me and my friends looking for a place to eat, they were closing the terrace and we turned around thinking they were closed as one beautiful smile wave to us and brought us in which I will be forever thankful. What a great place!!! Super friendly and warm service and the food is literally one of the best I had in Amsterdam. Fresh ingredients, super balanced flavours and down to earth (no BS). We stumbled upon this small, charming Thai restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The food was incredibly flavorful and tasted truly authentic, and the service was fast and friendly. Rakang Thai is a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and fantastic drinks! I ordered the chicken pad Thai, and it was absolutely amazing—full of flavor and perfectly balanced. The star of the night was the Mai Tai; it was so good, I could drink it every day! Highly recommend for an authentic and delightful Thai dining experience.

I used AI (again) to find a Thai restaurant where they are not adapting the spices to tourist standards. And I got what I wanted: Rakang is located in the Jordaan in a nice street where previously there was a canal. Shops and restaurants at both sides of the street. Nice weather, so I got a seat half on the resto, half on the terrace, cosy. I indulged and had a starter, chicken with peanut sauce, followed by a Tom Yung Kung soup - and that one was really spicy, burned my mouth but it was also tasty. As main course I had the chicken with red curry and at first sight I was afraid it would equal the soup in spicyness but luckily, less hot but still spicy. All courses were very good quality, I would not know what to complain about. And, the service was very friendly! Arrive early or make a reservation, this place is busy! Recommended!

Ordered via uber eats based on the good reviews, but I’m very disappointed. Chicken sate was very dry and blend. The same for the beef dish Neua Krapaw which was very salty and tough to chew. As if both dishes had been heated before.

Had a great meal here. A super good Thai with a wide range of typical Thai dishes. A wide selection of both winged (chicken and duck) and fish and beef. It could have been a bit spicier for us (as we are used to from Thai cuisine). The prices are a bit on the high side. Furthermore, we had a wonderful evening, sitting on the lovely terrace. Recommended!
