Absolutely best Thai restaurant in Amsterdam. One of the best ever , never been to Thailand but been to many many Thai in Europe and this one is the best. We ordered mix starters , very good , chicken green curry & stir fry beef very good. Great food , not spicy but we asked for more spicy and we got it , we asked for extra chili and we got it , we asked for minced garlic and we got it. Great service and great Thai. Went there with my friend today, one of the most delicious foods we’ve had in a while (as a very picky eater)!!! Personal was very kind and nice, friendly and cozy atmosphere. Will definitely be back☺️

Rude waiter, charged us for tap water and the takeout container, very bad service

We had a delicious and tasty meal here. As an appetizer we had the spring rolls. All flavors really came to the fore. And our main course was with chicken and some beef. We had not made a reservation. But they still had a small spot by the window. Where we had a nice heater at our feet. They also often came to ask if everything was okay. Very sweet

The food was tasty and served quick. I encountered an unpleasant experience with a male staff(bald) member who was noticeably rude and unwelcoming. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience to him. When he took our order, he neglected to include rice for two people. Upon inquiring about it, he did not suggest that one bowl would suffice. Instead, he brought two large bowls of rice, which led us to request a change to one bowl of fried rice at an additional cost, as we could not finish both. Had he indicated that one bowl would be enough, I would have opted not to order the second. If he is the owner, it is disappointing, especially considering the reputation for friendliness in Thai culture. In contrast, the female servers were much more pleasant and welcoming. While I would recommend the food, the service from this particular staff member detracted significantly from the dining experience.

Loved our experience here. We sat at a table outside, enjoying the beauty of the street and sharing some delicious food.

We had an amazing dinner, with no doubts the closest taste of the real thai food that I tried in my life outside Thailand. The waiters are smiling and kind, the food is outstanding and the restaurant is extremely clean, zero smell on clothes after dinner contrary to what happens in other places. We’ll come back more than one time for sure! 10 stars deserved!!

When we are in Amsterdam, we wanted to avoid the hotspots known from various social media portals. Because you can eat fries and waffles everywhere in Holland!!! We wanted to experience the city the way normal Dutch people do and didn't want to wait long for overpriced stuff. In the evening we decided on the Asian restaurant Rakang Thai - and there were only Dutch people around us :-) Without a reservation, we were probably lucky to get a table because after a quarter of an hour the place was full. The service was super friendly, explained all the dishes and the food was damn tasty. Sure, the price in Amsterdam is a little more expensive than at the Asian restaurant around the corner, but the price-performance ratio was good. For the first time really eating Thai food, the restaurant was perfect!

The food was quite good, not the best Thai food that I had. One lady in the restaurant staff was quite rude, but everyone else quite helpful.

Amsterdam is a world class city…the canals are beautiful…the people are wonderful and friendly I’ll return to Amsterdam every year for Rakang’s Green Curry with Shrimps, Beef Salad, and Pad Thai, and Fish curry Top…

As a Thai, I can say that this restaurant offers the most authentic Thai food in Amsterdam. This restaurant has been open since 1994 in central Amsterdam so clearly they know what they’re doing!

Top notch good value thai restaurant! Seems like a restaurant where the staff enjoy working, with many returning customers. Nice to sit outside in the summer, more or less quiet street except for the occasional motorcycle (of which the revving should be banned…)

Attentive and fast service. Excellent white wine. The flavors of the food were very good, authentic, the right level of spiciness. The meat (chicken satay and beef) could have been more tender to our taste. Were just 'overcooked'. The shrimp, on the other hand, is a big 10. It's fantastic that you get large shrimps with the curry. We think the prices are on the high side compared to other Thai restaurants in Amsterdam.

Well,what to say....I tried a lot of Thai restaurants where I like to eat,but this is particular because here you eat for real like a king in Thailand, service and kitchen were perfect

Very tasty Thai food, fast service and super friendly people!!

Super friendly staff serving super tasty authentic Thai cuisine, what could be better. We ordered the chicken spring roll, beef curry, roast duck chili sauce and pad thai. Good portion size. We didn’t order any seafood as we deemed them overpriced. The beef was tender, the roast duck slices had a nice crunch but still tender, the curry sauce is just wonderful over rice, the spring roll was good specially with the sweet dip. The pad thai was just ok (maybe needed more egg, peanut flavor, wok hei). The meal was very satisfying.

Cibo sempre ottimo, ristorante sempre pieno quindi necessita di prenotazione! Opzioni per intolleranza ci sono (in teoria) ma non possono garantirlo. L’abbiamo rischiata lo stesso ma per gente allergica meglio no? Spazio ristretto all’apparenza. Sarebbe piu comodo con meno gente perche non sentivo i miei amici parlare! oops

We have eaten here several times and have also ordered from Rakang several times. Always tastes great and fresh!

Way too expensive for what it is. Also got our food 30 min after. The male server was stern and curt, like I’m offending him by dining there. The female servers were nicer and more accommodating.

There was great food, staff always looking to see if I needed help. If you are going to Amsterdam then this is a must eat. I got the steak with spicy sauce and it was yummy. After flying in yesterday it was great to have Asian food the next day. Make sure to get an appetizer. Make sure to eat here. -my 10 yo

The kitchen here certainly knows how to cook. In addition to the traditional flavors, you can really taste that they have infused the flavor of the shrimp heads into the curry. The other dishes were also made to an equal standard. I have to say that I thought it was a bit pricey. For a little bit more you can have a fine dining experience. Then you have fun for a few hours, while after an hour you are back on the street again.

Solid tofu pad Thai to go. The noodles and veggies were nice but the tofu could have been a little crispier. Service was very friendly and organized.

No vegan options, all the curry's have chicken broth in them. Even if you substitutie meet with a vegetarian alternative, the curry itself will not be vegetarian!

GREAT FOOD ‼️ Definitely worth visiting, we had duck in a sweet and sour sauce and pad thai - both were amazing! The service was friendly and attentive, all went smoothly and the food arrived at the table very quickly. When asked, the servers also had no problem with making a dish a bit less spicy (the duck), which made our dinner even more enjoyable. Overall, a well deserved 10/10.

Delicious Thai food. That tender duck in red curry: finger licking good! Smooth and easy operation. Interior is not that Thai. But I don't think anyone cares. It's completely full!

Attentive and caring staff. We really liked our two dishes, one vegetarian and the other duck. Small downside for the tofu, lacking a tad of taste, but that in no way influences the quality of our dinner. The icing on the cake, a coffee worthy of the greatest Italian baristas. This is my fourth time to this restaurant, foods here are delicious, but I’m very confused by the service and won’t come again. Last time when I was there the server asked us out of nowhere“Are you from China or Taiwan?” I mean??？？ This time, when I and my friends were eating and talking, the service guy come to ask if we finished with very bad attitude. And after the moment we put down the spoon for dessert, the guy came to ask again immediately, and directly brought the bill to us. We only stayed for less than one hour, I literally don’t know why he wants us to leave so bad. So disappointed, bad experience.

We had red curry with chicken and beef with massaman curry. The curries were both very tasty, but for the somewhat high price (€22.50) they could have used a few more vegetables. Not even 1 potato in the massaman and hardly an onion to be seen. The red curry had some green beans and some mushrooms. We also found some slices of winter carrot in both curries. This really could be better. The service and atmosphere are top notch!

I’ve taken a few days to really process how great of an experience this was. Really couldn’t recommend it more for like a chill date spot. Still don’t know if I preferred the food or the service but both were unparalleled. The crew were warm and honest and genuine and the food was vibrant and beautiful. The crispy fried duck in their house sweet & sour sauce was spectacular. They brought out steamed jasmine rice too so you can serve with that sweet tangy crack sauce and thank me later. Go go goooo

Got takeaway set menu of veg, rice and 2 meat mains - ace value at €17.50; flavoursome & delicious, not over-hot maasdam beef, cashew chicken, fried vegetable rice. Fed two. Recommended.

I have probably been coming to the cheerful and friendly Rakang for about 30 years and always enjoy it, where you can enjoy very good authentic Thai food. Recommendations; original bkk som tam, nice steamed fish. Delicious traditional soups. Great curries. Hardly any place in Amsterdam is so enjoyable. Kudos to all the nice people who have been working there for years with a lot of knowledge and love. 🍀🌶️🍋☀️

Food was great. We ordered the Tom Kha soup, green curry, spring rolls and the vegetarian pad thai. Only negative was the place was packed and the tables were crammed together which was a little uncomfortable.
