Rakang in Jordaan

Forget all the bad reviews you have seen here… Late Sunday me and my friends looking for a place to eat, they were closing the terrace and we turned around thinking they were closed as one beautiful smile wave to us and brought us in which I will be forever thankful. What a great place!!! Super friendly and warm service and the food is literally one of the best I had in Amsterdam. Fresh ingredients, super balanced flavours and down to earth (no BS). Will definitely be a regular there now and I’m super sad that I didn’t get to find this place sooner. khàawp khun khráp

My favorite Thai restaurant in Amsterdam! I have tried alot of Thai restaurants in Amsterdam, but this my all time favorite. Staff is very very very friendly, but the food is all on point! Every dish is always perfect, each time I go there there is never a flaw in the dishes. I never get bored of going to Rakang!

Awesome restaurant, good food, super friendly staff, saved us from the rain even though they were full and gave us and our dog something to eat and drink. This is true Thai kindness, you usually only experience locally.

Unfortunately I was racially profiled and told I smell. Didn't get to try the food by the asian waitress with short hair. The most offensive thing I have been through in Amsterdam! Disappointing indeed.

When we travel through Europe, we usually avoid cuisine we can get back home—but after a long walk through Amsterdam on our first day, we were starving. We stumbled upon this small, charming Thai restaurant, and it did not disappoint. The food was incredibly flavorful and tasted truly authentic, and the service was fast and friendly. Honestly, it was some of the best Thai food we’ve ever had!

Rakang Thai is a beautiful restaurant with delicious food and fantastic drinks! I ordered the chicken pad Thai, and it was absolutely amazing—full of flavor and perfectly balanced. The star of the night was the Mai Tai; it was so good, I could drink it every day! Highly recommend for an authentic and delightful Thai dining experience.

I used AI (again) to find a Thai restaurant where they are not adapting the spices to tourist standards. And I got what I wanted: Rakang is located in the Jordaan in a nice street where previously there was a canal. Shops and restaurants at both sides of the street. Nice weather, so I got a seat half on the resto, half on the terrace, cosy. I indulged and had a starter, chicken with peanut sauce, followed by a Tom Yung Kung soup - and that one was really spicy, burned my mouth but it was also tasty. As main course I had the chicken with red curry and at first sight I was afraid it would equal the soup in spicyness but luckily, less hot but still spicy. All courses were very good quality, I would not know what to complain about. And, the service was very friendly! Arrive early or make a reservation, this place is busy! Recommended!

Ordered via uber eats based on the good reviews, but I’m very disappointed. Chicken sate was very dry and blend. The same for the beef dish Neua Krapaw which was very salty and tough to chew. As if both dishes had been heated before.

Had a great meal here. A super good Thai with a wide range of typical Thai dishes. A wide selection of both winged (chicken and duck) and fish and beef. It could have been a bit spicier for us (as we are used to from Thai cuisine). The prices are a bit on the high side. Furthermore, we had a wonderful evening, sitting on the lovely terrace. Recommended!

Had pad Thai and red Thai curry. Excellent. Water was $5! Ridiculous! That was the only downfall. No one else charged us fr water on our trip to Amsterdam.

Very nice Thai restaurant . I loved the food and the friendly staff . We shared a very nice mix platter, then we took 2 very delicious Tom kha kai soups and we ended with a nice dessert . Definetely I can recommend this place !

Such rude and mean waitresses, they basically kicked us out of the restaurant and yelled at us that there is no drink without ordering food. If you hate people that much find another job man!

What a wonderfully relaxed, casual Thai spot in a nice, cozy street. The food was delicious, and yay, being able to dine outside in the sunshine in mid-April is a treat. Service was super attentive, cooperative and simply pleasant. Highly recommended, especially the terrace👌🏽

Reserved a table, came all the way from Brabant to eat here and we were 15 minutes late due to parking problems. Then the service is rejected and the table is given away in front of us, really super arrogant... very unfortunate. Apparently a place for only people who live around the corner.

Nice little Thai restaurant in the Jordaan. The service is very friendly and very attentive. A table without reservation. Starter to share was fine and varied, the Tom Kha Kai was fantastic. This famous soup is not necessarily tasty everywhere, it takes a lot of experience to get this soup perfect. This was so delicious that I even wanted to order a second cup, but I had already ordered a main course. Tender beef in a delicious mild spicy sauce. Delicious food and the price/quality ratio is excellent.

My place to go when I have friends or family visiting. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is great, very cozy and the staff is very friendly. I simply love this restaurant.

Qué gran hallazgo - tuvimos una comida muy deliciosa aquí y las porciones eran abundantes. Es básico y acogedor por dentro - no es elegante, perfecto para lo que estábamos buscando. El personal era amable. Fabulosas auténticas comidas tailandesas - como bueno que hemos tenido en Tailandia!

Terrible food- we had the vegetable pad thai and crispy chicken in sweet and sour sauce. The chicken was neither crispy but dry, and the sauce tasted like ketchup. The pad thai was presented beautifully, yet lacked in flavor and vegetables. The pad thai also had potato in it- which was slightly off-putting. The actual restaurant is pretty but very crowded, and the service was very friendly.

i love this restaurant, it’s really small but it’s cute! i definitely recommend unless your allergic to nuts because that’s a lot of pad thai dishes! the staff are really friendly but the service is a bit slow since it’s so packed!! there is also some nice art on their walls.

Nothing too special. Good balance of sweetness and spiciness. Short menu is a plus. Could have more soft drinks (eg, non-sweet cold lemongrass tea). Feels a bit overpriced for this experience

Something inconspicuous from the outside revealed the best food in a great atmosphere inside! The food is served in a way that is perfect for sharing at the table! The service was extremely nice! Huge compliment!

Absolutely best Thai restaurant in Amsterdam. One of the best ever , never been to Thailand but been to many many Thai in Europe and this one is the best. We ordered mix starters , very good , chicken green curry & stir fry beef very good. Great food , not spicy but we asked for more spicy and we got it , we asked for extra chili and we got it , we asked for minced garlic and we got it. Great service and great Thai. Rude waiter, charged us for tap water and the takeout container, very bad service

We had a delicious and tasty meal here. As an appetizer we had the spring rolls. All flavors really came to the fore. And our main course was with chicken and some beef. We had not made a reservation. But they still had a small spot by the window. Where we had a nice heater at our feet. They also often came to ask if everything was okay. Very sweet

Excellent food, very authentic Thai, and very lovely and helpful wait staff. I would stop by anytime to try and get a table if you're walking by but recommend a reservation. Well worth it.

Un pequeño lugar acogedor con un personal encantador y atento y deliciosa comida. Recomiendo encarecidamente el sampler de aperitivos con los sabores favoritos del personal. El curry Massaman con carne de res estaba delicioso. El postre de coco brûlée era maravilloso. Todo el menú se ve muy bien.

The food was tasty and served quick. I encountered an unpleasant experience with a male staff(bald) member who was noticeably rude and unwelcoming. It felt as though my presence was an inconvenience to him. When he took our order, he neglected to include rice for two people. Upon inquiring about it, he did not suggest that one bowl would suffice. Instead, he brought two large bowls of rice, which led us to request a change to one bowl of fried rice at an additional cost, as we could not finish both. Had he indicated that one bowl would be enough, I would have opted not to order the second. If he is the owner, it is disappointing, especially considering the reputation for friendliness in Thai culture. In contrast, the female servers were much more pleasant and welcoming. While I would recommend the food, the service from this particular staff member detracted significantly from the dining experience.

We had an amazing dinner, with no doubts the closest taste of the real thai food that I tried in my life outside Thailand. The waiters are smiling and kind, the food is outstanding and the restaurant is extremely clean, zero smell on clothes after dinner contrary to what happens in other places. We’ll come back more than one time for sure! 10 stars deserved!!

When we are in Amsterdam, we wanted to avoid the hotspots known from various social media portals. Because you can eat fries and waffles everywhere in Holland!!! We wanted to experience the city the way normal Dutch people do and didn't want to wait long for overpriced stuff. In the evening we decided on the Asian restaurant Rakang Thai - and there were only Dutch people around us :-) Without a reservation, we were probably lucky to get a table because after a quarter of an hour the place was full. The service was super friendly, explained all the dishes and the food was damn tasty. Sure, the price in Amsterdam is a little more expensive than at the Asian restaurant around the corner, but the price-performance ratio was good. For the first time really eating Thai food, the restaurant was perfect!

The food was quite good, not the best Thai food that I had. One lady in the restaurant staff was quite rude, but everyone else quite helpful.

As a Thai, I can say that this restaurant offers the most authentic Thai food in Amsterdam. This restaurant has been open since 1994 in central Amsterdam so clearly they know what they’re doing!

Top notch good value thai restaurant! Seems like a restaurant where the staff enjoy working, with many returning customers. Nice to sit outside in the summer, more or less quiet street except for the occasional motorcycle (of which the revving should be banned…)

Attentive and fast service. Excellent white wine. The flavors of the food were very good, authentic, the right level of spiciness. The meat (chicken satay and beef) could have been more tender to our taste. Were just 'overcooked'. The shrimp, on the other hand, is a big 10. It's fantastic that you get large shrimps with the curry. We think the prices are on the high side compared to other Thai restaurants in Amsterdam.

Well,what to say....I tried a lot of Thai restaurants where I like to eat,but this is particular because here you eat for real like a king in Thailand, service and kitchen were perfect

Una vez más cenamos en Rakang. Como siempre, la comida era preciosa, la ubicación es genial y el servicio es muy bueno y amable. Mi única queja... es bastante caro. Ámsterdam es un 25 % más querida que las ciudades circundantes, y los restaurantes en el centro de Ámsterdam parecen ser los mejores.

Very tasty Thai food, fast service and super friendly people!!

Super friendly staff serving super tasty authentic Thai cuisine, what could be better. We ordered the chicken spring roll, beef curry, roast duck chili sauce and pad thai. Good portion size. We didn’t order any seafood as we deemed them overpriced. The beef was tender, the roast duck slices had a nice crunch but still tender, the curry sauce is just wonderful over rice, the spring roll was good specially with the sweet dip. The pad thai was just ok (maybe needed more egg, peanut flavor, wok hei). The meal was very satisfying.

Cibo sempre ottimo, ristorante sempre pieno quindi necessita di prenotazione! Opzioni per intolleranza ci sono (in teoria) ma non possono garantirlo. L’abbiamo rischiata lo stesso ma per gente allergica meglio no? Spazio ristretto all’apparenza. Sarebbe piu comodo con meno gente perche non sentivo i miei amici parlare! oops

Way too expensive for what it is. Also got our food 30 min after. The male server was stern and curt, like I’m offending him by dining there. The female servers were nicer and more accommodating.
