To preface, this is an expensive restaurant—you’re spending at minimum €75 per person. With that price point comes a certain bar for food and service. Sadly it seems this restaurant has gone the way of a lot of great Amsterdam restaurants—start out with a bang to then decline into mediocrity, riding on reputation to keep up the pricing. Let’s first talk about the food. (1) papaya salad for 1st course—Simple right? This is a classic. Well as this claims it is super authentic, I was hoping they would actually do as in Thailand and mash the papaya. Sadly, it was shredded—typical shortcut papaya salad. Except it was €32. (2) mains—nothing to complain about, they were delicious but the portions were small. (3) dessert — very much so a disappointment. The mango sticky rice looks like NOTHING in the photos. The mango was a pale yellow, sour, with visible bruising. The sticky rice was fine, but again this is €13! I expect a perfect sweet, outrageously floral mango even if means you fly them in from the other side of the world at a ridiculous price. These were Albert Heijn quality mangoes. Service—nothing terrible, but I felt rushed. I even asked the waiter to please bring out the mains one by one so we can share. After agreeing, he totally ignored it and brought them all out at once. I really wanted to like this place…sadly this is at best slightly above average Thai food while charging Michelin star prices.

The service I received was very top notch, and the food was just exquisite, I feel that the flavors are very authentic but the spice levels were not too high, very enjoyable.

Waiter was incredibly aggressive. Don’t know what his issue was with us being two young girls (?) dining at the restaurant. But he made us feel extremely uncomfortable through his aggressive comments and tone of voice, sarcastic mimicking of us and the way he literally threw down the receipt on the table at the end of a very tragic dinner... We paid over 80€ to be made fun of, and made to feel uncomfortable. We were respectful customers … I suggest this waiter goes to therapy to sort out his anger issues but mostly his very obvious issues with women. <3 Food was good but unless you are into …. humiliation …. don’t come here…

A small entrance, discreetly furnished restaurant, friendly and very good, friendly and mindful service. As someone who has eaten a lot of Thai food in Thailand (North and South) and all over the world, I can confirm that the flavors and dishes are authentic. I would like to emphasize that the spiciness level is also authentic: if you are always Europeanized Thai food, you will learn here what spiciness is actually normal for Thai food. I loved it. I can recommend this restaurant to everyone and will be back again. Thank you for the good experience!

Good thai. We have ordered 2 classic menus, consisting of 2 starters, 3 mains with rice and a dessert. Each menu costs 62 euros. It is worth ordering the menu, you will be satisfied. Perhaps we have missed having the main dishes explained to us in the same way as the starters. The quality is good, I do recommend visiting the restaurant.

My friend and I had a great dining experience here. The menu had many interesting options, and the food we ended up ordering was very flavorful and well presented. The portion sizes were also good, leaving us satisfied but not overfull (and still with room for a very delicious mango sticky rice for dessert). I would definitely go here again to try some of the other menu options! The service was also very courteous, and the ambiance was pleasant and peaceful.

Mi marido y yo tropezamos con Sukhothai Thanee camino a nuestro hotel y fue un hallazgo estrella. No teníamos reserva y no nos pudieron sentar inicialmente, pero nos ofreció una mesa 45 minutos después, así que fuimos a tomar una copa a la vuelta de la esquina y volvimos. Y valió la pena esperar al 100%. La comida estaba muy deliciosa. . . Se sirve a un ritmo más lento de lo que estaríamos acostumbrados (porque creo que el único chef cocina todo desde cero) pero cada plato era delicioso y valía la pena la espera. No era barato 170 € para nosotros dos, pero eso incluía un entrante, principal, postre para cada uno de nosotros más dos bebidas cada uno y agua. Sin embargo, no nos importó pagar esa cantidad porque valió la pena. Definitivamente recomendaría si te gusta la auténtica comida tailandesa sabrosa.

Very pretentious place which aims to serve fine dining Thai, yet the food was just average and very overpriced. We got the 2 soups as a starter and then 2 mains of chicken/pork belly which were super spicy and so tiny (35€ each). service is very rude, the waiter was never accommodating and didn’t like us not speaking dutch. wouldn’t recommend. EDIT: The aggressive reply from the restaurant tells a lot about how they value customer feedback!

What a perfect Thai restaurant. I didn't realize we had such a fine Thai dining experience right under our noses here in Amsterdam. The curries here were fantastic, very silky, rich and really a wall of flavor explosions in your mouth. Such interesting dishes and friendly service. I will be returning to try more.

The meal that came for lunch that the tour brought was very delicious Thai food. Ever since I've eaten Thai food abroad. This shop is the most impressive. We had so much fun eating that we forgot to take pictures of the food.

Great services! Easy to go. I walked from Rijks museum. Their food is so authentic. Balanced flavor. (Not too salty not too sweet) . Their tomyum was very unique. I will recommend to anyone who love Thai food or wanna try Thai-local dish. Come here you would love this place.

This is simply the best Thai restaurant I've eaten in the Netherlands!!! The staff was great. The food was delicious and I loved every dish. It's hard to choose which one I like best. I hope to bring my other friends to try it next time. You're really missing out if you don't try this restaurant.

The staff can’t help it but waiting 1 hour and 30 min for a main course is just disrespectful. I mean sure we did not order a starter and apparently they have a system in place where they first serve tables with staters. But they could have mentioned that the food would take at least an hour. The food itself was decent but nothing special and fairly overpriced. Yes it’s a nice place with pretty decoration. But please learn how to manage expectations of your guests.

While I have a soft spot for their Beef Stew in Massaman Curry, every dish, from the Crispy Sea Bass to the Grilled Ribeye in Panang Curry, burst with authentic Thai flavors that transported me back to Thailand. The Mango Sticky Rice for dessert was a sweet finale that perfectly complemented the savory dishes. Ate here with the family for a birthday. Upon entering you were greeted by a doorbell in Thai. Very nice! Our coats were accepted and hung up. Very nicely decorated restaurant, not extremely large, but that provides extra ambiance. The tables were laid out very neatly. The chairs are comfortable, not your standard wooden catering chair. We had a pre-selected surprise menu. Starter 1: something tasty with dried shrimps served on a tray. 2: grilled chicken with a nice spicy sauce. 3: fish cakes. 4: papaya salad (spicy!) Main course 1: a whole sea bass fried with a fresh "salad/dressing" of mint, lemongrass, lime. 2: massam curry. 3: yellow curry with lobster. 4: chicken with cashews, bell pepper, onion (spicy!) For dessert: sticky rice with mango or a kind of warm green pudding with coconut milk and raspberry ice cream. The food was very tasty and very tasty. You could taste the freshness in every dish and the herbs were also recognizable. Delicious food. This is not an "average Thai". The service was also top notch. This was the first time but certainly not the last. Truly a hidden gem!!

Tucked away little gem of a restaurant and so worth it. Coming from the Pacific Nw where delicious Thai food is abundant I was craving something spicy and this place did not disappoint. Already at the first bite at Sukhothai Thanee, I knew immediately that the chef must be Thai and doesn't use the curry paste from the pack. The smell of herbs and ingredients is fresh and well-selected for the dishes. As I am Thai myself, I can say that the chef cooks in traditional Thai tastes. If you are looking for the real Thai food in The Netherlands, I would encourage you to try " Sukhothai Thanee". It is not only the authentic food, also the hospitality and friendlyness of the staff and the cosy atmosphere are making a visit to Sukhothai Thanee a true Thai homecoming. Best Thai restaurant ever! I can never find such a Thai restaurant in France. It was an accidental find, we check the menu saw it’s a bit price. But we saw the high rating and thought maybe it worths a try! It turns out it’s a five-star experience! Here you can taste a variety of mixed flavors, especially SPICY 🔥chef is very nice, he introduced that he cooks authentic Thai food and don’t adjusted to European standards! If you don’t eat spicy, I guess it’s a bit tough for you. But if you eat everything and want to experience Thailand, this is definitely the place you should go!

This is one of my favourite go-to‘s in Amsterdam!! The location is quite central and the setting feels warm and intimate, quite a nice break after a hectic (and often cold) outing in Amsterdam. The staff are incredibly nice and also willingly help you with your personal preferences or taste/spice preferences. The chef‘s menu is especially creative and changes every few months, so whenever I head back I am excited to see what‘s new:). However, I would strongly recommend the Massaman curry as it is cooked with fresh spices and not industrial pre-made curry paste and you can absolutely tell the differences. Definitely one of my favourite dining experiences and the best thai restaurant in Amsterdam, no doubt!

Wenn man rein kommt, wird man auf Band thailändisch begrüßt, total authentisch. Der Service war sehr freundlich. Das essen war super. Eine echtes Geschmackserlebnis mit einer schönen Schärfe. Das Amuse Gugeule war eine Geschmacksexplosion - sehr interessante Gewürzkombination. Das Restaurant ist sehr zu empfehlen! Wir kommen wieder.

Overall, Sukhothai Thanee offers a great fine dining experience. The staff are very friendly and will explain everything you need to know about the dish you order. Furthermore, the restaurant is very clean, spacious, and offer an authentic Thai vibe/mood. Lastly, the food. The food is very fresh and offers a very authentic Thai taste. I would say that Sukhothai Thanee is, by far, the most authentic Thai restaurant in Amsterdam! This place is good for anything: company dinner, birthday dinner, date night etc. Highly Recommend!!

Food is good and tasty but didn’t feel like a gourmet experience so not sure if cost is worth it

Heerlijk gegeten! De curry's zijn echt heerlijk. De pittige gerechten zijn ook echt pittig, maar dit gaat niet ten koste van de smaak. De gerechten zijn perfect in balans. Als we weer in Amsterdam zijn gaan we zeker weer hier eten.

Mooi restaurant, mooie aankleding. Vriendelijk personeel. Leggen alle gerechten netje aan je uit. Smaken zijn super goed. De beste Thai waar ik ooit ben geweest!

Hebben hier heerlijk authentiek thais gegeten. De chefs menu is een echte aanrader mooi gebalanceerde gerechten.

Tips you need to know before dining here ⭐️they change the menu every several months, so what you found in recommendation might be not on the menu ⭐️it’s an authentic Thai restaurant, which means the (most) dishes are Spicy 🌶. And believe me, you can get MORE spicy dishes in Thailand, so if you don’t like spicy or you can only eat a little bit spicy, thinking about it before you go ⭐️Starters Personally I like fish cakes and moo satay the most. I’ve heard moo satay is their new dish for this season, the satay sauce is with rich peanut aroma and a bit spicy, I even think it’s very creamy. ⭐️Som tam green papaya salad I’ve never thought a salad can contain so many rich flavors! You can taste sweetness, spicy, crunchy (peanuts and papaya), and sourness ⭐️main dishes I just want to say these curry dishes are amazing. But little tips for how to choose less spicy dishes: green curry is the least spicy one, yellow curry is usually with the seafood and its creamy (I think). The red ones are the most spicy It’s a little bit pricy but you can have a good experience as if you were in Thailand. The owners are very welcoming.

Best Thai food I have experienced outside of Thailand, wonderful experience.

Als je de straat inloopt verwacht je hier geen chique Thai, maar via een beetje verscholen ingang kom je binnen en valt meteen op dat hier meer aandacht besteed is aan het interieur dan de gemiddelde Thai. Wel erg vel wit uitgelicht, waardoor het wat aan sfeer inboet. We gaan voor het ‘ street food’ menu a EUR 50 p.p.. Niet echt goedkoop, maar je krijgt (om te beginnen een amuse) mooie authentieke gerechten die meer pittig zijn zoals in Thailand zelf (in Nederland is het vaak wat milder). Helaas duurt het wel ruim 20 minuten voor we ons drankje krijgen. Ook als we later nog een drankje willen bestellen is het niet zo eenvoudig om iemand te spreken te krijgen. Waarbij bediening wel weer erg vriendelijk is. Wij zijn er nog niet helemaal over uit of we hier weer snel naar terug gaan.

We hadden de kans om met 5 te zijn en veel gerechten op de kaart te proeven. Alles van hoogwaardige kwaliteit en een plezier om te proeven. Enorm vriendelijke bediening door professionele gastheer en personeel. Absolute aanrader.
